A
The Untouched Beauty of Patagonia
Located in both Chile and Argentina at the southern tip of South America, Patagonia remains one of the planet’s last wild frontiers. Its landscapes — carved by ancient glaciers and shaped by constant winds — tell a story of elemental forces at work.
●The Ice Giants
The region’s crown jewels are its 48 glaciers, including the Perito Moreno Glacier. Unlike most glaciers melting away due to climate change, this 30-km-long ice river still advances daily, carving massive icebergs into Lake Argentino with thunderous booms. Scientists monitor it as a climate “benchmark.”
●The Steppe’s Secrets
East of the Andes, the Patagonian Steppe seems barren (贫瘠的) at first glance. Yet this plain protects wildlife like guanacos, elusive pumas, and the endangered Andean condor — its 3-meter wingspan making it the world’s heaviest flying bird.
●A Hiker’s Paradox
Torres de Paine National Park offers granite (花岗岩) peaks piercing blue skies, but its fame brings challenges. Park rangers enforce strict “leave no trace” rules to protect fragile ecosystems from over 250,000 annual visitors.
●Conservation Dilemma
While 30% of Patagonia is now protected, debates continue: Should dams be built on wild rivers to generate electricity? Can eco-tourism truly preserve wilderness? The answers may determine whether Patagonia’s beauty remains completely wild.
21. What is special about the Perito Moreno Glacier?
A. It is called the crown jewel of the region. B. It breaks off into the lake with loud noises.
C. Its role as a habitat for pumas. D. It is growing while most glaciers are melting.
22. According to the text, what’s the main concern about Torres de Paine National Park?
A. The disappearance of its glaciers. B. The potential threat from dam construction.
C. The impact of a large number of tourists. D. The lack of famous granite peaks.
23. What is the current situation of Patagonia’s land in terms of conservation?
A. A lot of it is used for tourism.
B. Most of it has been officially protected.
C. Whether it can stay perfectly wild is still a question.
D. People have agreed to build dams on all the rivers.
D 22. C 23. C

Two pig farmers in Suffolk, East England have succeeded in feeding one million bees after participating in a project that saw them turn over half of their land to wildflowers. Four years ago, brothers Mark and Paul Hayward decided to fill 81 acres of their farm land with wildflowers. This week, a study was carried out monitoring insect activity on the flower-covered land, which found they were feeding one million bees at any time.
“This was our target when we started, to grow enough flowers to feed a million bees on a single day.” Mark said. “We are acutely aware that bees are under threat from modern farming methods and that East England is one of the worst places where bees are seriously suffering from lack of foraging (觅食) diversity,” he continued.
“Every third bite of food you eat can come from bees and we wanted to create an operation on our farm that did not push nature out but rather hugged it — as a central part of our ecology system and our food cycle,” he said.
The farm uses all kinds of seeds which can produce many different wild plants and of course, the bees can get food from different wildflowers.
“We are taking a very small role in helping society restore a balance and this starts with plant diversity to encourage insects, bees, small mammals (哺乳动物), and birds,” said Paul. “At the end of the day, we see ourselves as caretakers of this land. Between us we have six children and we owe it to them to farm sustainability (持续性) and set an example for the generations to come,” added Paul.
According to the Bee Conservation Trust, many types of bees have seen their populations decline by 70%, and two species have become extinct in the last century.
Gill Perkins, CEO of the Bee Conservation Trust said, “Thanks to Mark and Paul, at least here, 1 million bees can keep living — a beacon (灯塔) of hope demonstrating what’s possible, which is of great significance for humans now and future.”
24. What can we know about the brothers from the first paragraph?
A. They have about 160 acres of land.
B. They grow wild flowers for pigs.
C. They are not good at growing wild flowers.
D. They have to support 1,000,000 bees on their land.
25. Why are bees under threat in East England according to Mark?
A. They are affected by climate change.
B. There are not enough wildflower varieties for food.
C. Modern farming methods use too many pesticides.
D. They are hunted by other animals.
26. What does Paul mean by saying “we see ourselves as caretakers of this land”?
A. They feel responsible for protecting the land sustainably.
B They are paid to take care of the land by the government.
C. They want to pass the land to their children as inheritance.
D. They believe caring for the land is their job as farmers.
27. What does Gill Perkins think of the brothers’ action?
A. It has little impact on bee conservation.
B. It’s a significant contribution to the world.
C. It should be criticized for being too small-scale.
D. It is only beneficial for the brothers’ farm.
A 25. B 26. A 27. B

Facial expressions aren’t the only way we express our emotions — body language also plays a crucial role. The way our body moves when laughing at a show is different from how we move when staying together with an old friend. Although both are expressions of happiness, finding common patterns across different situations is difficult. These patterns become particularly challenging to define when we consider cross-cultural differences as well.
Researchers from the Research Institute of Electrical Communication at Tohoku University (Japan) dealt with these challenges by collecting body movements from different situations, emotions and personal styles in a motion capture (动作捕捉) lab. Unlike previous databases that focused on simple and repetitive actions (e. g. walking sadly, walking happily, walking angrily), and were primarily based on Western populations, this new database aims to capture a wide range of emotional bodily expressions across various situations, with a focus on Japanese people born and raised in Japan.
To build this database, six professional performers were asked to think back to situations that made them happy, angry, sad, surprised, fearful, disgusted (厌恶的) or contemptuous (轻蔑的) and act them out using full-body movement. Their performances were recorded using high-speed motion capture technology, in which the 3-D information of movements was captured as a video. The recordings were later processed into simple stick figure-like animations
Study members watched these animations and discerned the expressed emotions. The results showed that they could recognize the emotions only from body movements, and the accuracy was as good as past simple action databases. Among the emotions studied, anger and fear were the easiest to recognize, while contempt and disgust were the hardest.
Future research can use this database to improve understanding of cultural differences in nonverbal communication. This will be helpful in developing technology communication tools to promote cross-cultural communication and understanding. This resource is expected to benefit researchers and industries using motion capture techniques such as gaming, film, animation and virtual reality.
28. What is the uniqueness of the new study?
A. Its focus on simple and repetitive actions.
B. Its analysis of Western and Japanese populations.
C. Its exploration of cultural differences in body language.
D. Its transition from facial expressions to body movements.
29. What were the six performers asked to do?
A. Change the recordings into animations.
B. Move their bodies accurately as ordered.
C. Express their emotions as clearly as possible.
D. Remember and act out personal emotional experiences.
30. What does the underlined word “discerned” in paragraph 4 probably mean?
A. Hid. B. Drew. C. Understood. D. Controlled.
31. What does the last paragraph mainly talk about?
A. The future direction of the study.

根据前文“We use words to communicate our thoughts, but sometimes our non-verbal language speaks louder than words. Body language includes facial expressions, gestures, and postures.(我们用语言来交流我们的思想,但有时我们的非语言行为比语言更有说服力。肢体语言包括面部表情、手势和姿势)”以及后文“For instance, a warm smile can build trust, while maintaining eye contact shows attentiveness and sincerity.(例如,一个温暖的微笑可以建立信任,而保持目光接触显示关注和真诚)”可知,D项“It is absolutely a powerful tool in our daily communication.(在我们的日常交流中,它绝对是一个强大的工具)”既承接了前文对身体语言的介绍,又为后文的具体例子提供了总起,起到了承上启下的作用。故选D项。
根据前文“However, the meanings of body language can vary greatly across different cultures.(然而,在不同的文化中,肢体语言的含义会有很大的不同)”以及后文“A gesture that is polite in one country might be offensive in another. The “thumbs-up” gesture, for example, is a sign of agreement in many places, but it is considered rude in some parts of the Middle East.(一个在一个国家被认为是礼貌的手势在另一个国家可能是无礼的。例如,“竖起大拇指”的手势在许多地方是表示同意的标志,但在中东的一些地区却被认为是粗鲁的)”可知,B项“Therefore, it is crucial to learn about these differences.(因此,了解这些差异是至关重要的)”和上文构成因果关系,自然承接上文的文化差异问题,并引出学习这些差异的必要性。故选B项。
【38题详解】
根据前文“Being aware of your own body language is the first step to use it effectively. Good posture shows confidence, and leaning slightly forward shows you are engaged in the conversation.(意识到自己的肢体语言是有效使用它的第一步。良好的姿势表现出自信,身体微微前倾表明你在参与谈话)”可知,本段主要讲述如何使用肢体语言,所以A项“Nodding during a conversation is another positive sign.(在谈话中点头是另一个积极的信号)”是对前文内容的另一举例,并引出后文“It shows respect and interest in what the other person is saying.(它显示了你对别人所说的话的尊重和兴趣)”,本句是对空处的解释说明。故选A项。
根据前文“Similarly, understanding others’ body language can help you understand their true feelings.(同样,了解他人的肢体语言可以帮助你了解他们的真实感受)”以及后文“If a friend says they are not angry but their jaw is tight and their arms are crossed, you might want to talk to them about what’s really wrong.(如果一个朋友说他们没有生气,但他们的下巴紧绷,双臂交叉,你可能想和他们谈谈到底是怎么回事)”可知,前文强调理解他人身体语言有助于了解真实感受,后文通过具体例子说明言语与身体语言可能不一致。所以F项“It often tells you more about how someone feels than their words do.(它通常比语言更能告诉你一个人的感受)”准确概括了身体语言在揭示真实情感方面的优势,与后文例子呼应。故选F项。
根据后文“By paying close attention to non-verbal cues, you can avoid misunderstandings and connect with others on a deeper level.(通过密切关注非语言暗示,你可以避免误解,并在更深层次上与他人建立联系)”可知,此处具体阐述通过注意非语言线索避免误会并促进更深层面的交流,所以C项“Mastering this skill will make you a better communicator.(掌握这个技巧会让你成为一个更好的沟通者)”作为段落主题句,既总结了前文内容,又自然引出后文的具体益处,起到很好的承上启下作用。

91. __________, ____________________ of change and accept it ____________________.
Nevertheless ②. I will always look on the positive side ③. rather than resist it.
I will always look on the positive side;第三空表示“而不是抗拒变革”用“rather than resist it”,“rather than”连接“accept it”与“resist it”,构成并列结构。故填①Nevertheless②I will always look on the positive side③rather than resist it。
92. ____________________ for China’s scientific research and Chinese medicine ____________________.
It is indeed an honor ②. to be spread around the world.
It is an honour for sb. to do sth. 故填①It is indeed an honor②to be spread around the world。
93. ____________________ the sun is __________ shining, ____________________ it is morning or night ____________________.
Even though ②. brightly ③. telling whether ④. is impossible.
故填①Even though②brightly③telling whether④is impossible。
94. Just like spoken language, body language____________________.
【答案】varies from culture to culture
故填varies from culture to culture。
95. ____________________ about Yuan Longping was ____________________.
What impressed people most ②. his ongoing ability to fulfil his dreams.
故填①What impressed people most,②his ongoing ability to fulfil his dreams。

(Someone in Daily Life)
The Person I Look Up To
The person I admire most is my father, an ordinary man with an extraordinary heart. Working as an engineer, he often deals with complex problems, which requires great patience and a sharp mind.
What I truly admire is his optimism and resilience. I will never forget how he comforted our family when his project failed last year, saying that difficulties would be overcome as long as I was determined. His positive attitude, which always lights up our home, teaches me the real meaning of strength.
Inspired by him, I have learned to face my own challenges at school with a more positive mindset. He is my lifelong role model.
(A Great Scientist)
The Person I Look Up To
The person I look up to is Yuan Longping, revered as the "Father of Hybrid Rice." His lifelong mission, which was to rid the world of hunger, has saved millions of lives.
What makes me admire him most is not just his brilliant achievement, but his great determination and dedication. Despite being a world-famous scientist, he spent most of his time working in the rice fields, which showed his deep connection to the land and the people. His story inspires me to study harder and contribute to society.
Although he passed away, his spirit encourages young people like me to pursue our dreams with perseverance. He is a true hero.
My Role Model: Yuan Longping
My Role Model, Yuan Longping, who is known as the “father of hybrid rice”, is universally considered one of the greatest agricultural scientists.
What impressed people most about him was his ongoing ability to fulfil his dreams. He dedicated his life to scientific research, and his achievements prove that it is indeed an honor for China’s agricultural research to benefit the entire world.
His story has a profound impact on me. Even though the research work was intensely demanding, telling whether he was in the lab or in the fields was sometimes impossible. Yet, his perseverance taught me to always look on the positive side and accept challenges rather than resist them.
And if I am feeling down, there is nothing better than remembering his smiling face, which symbolizes hope and dedication. He is my true role model.

B. They are paid to take care of the land by the government.
C
In the fast-changing tech world, each new generation of wireless communication live, work, and connect with the world around us.
Wireless technology entered the scene in the 1980s with the creation of mobile phones. The development of this 1G network was the first time when users could communicate with others without being tied to a landline. The desire for mobile networks led to 2G wireless’ creation in the 1990s. Then the early 2000s created the 3G network supporting mobile Internet use. Users could send emails, and enjoy faster connection speeds. Later, the introduction of smartphones marked the end of the 3G era and the beginning of the 4G era.
Our current state of communication started in the early 2020s with the development of the 5G network. Following the great advancements of the 5G network, the next frontier is around the corner: 6G
At its core, 6G will be about more than just faster Internet speeds. It will enable a fully immersive (沉浸式的) digital world. Moreover, it will expand the boundaries of what is possible with the Internet of Things (IoT). In short, the potential applications of 6G are vast and varied.
6G’s ultra-low delay and high bandwidth (带宽) will enable telemedicine applications like remote surgery. Wearable health devices could provide continuous health monitoring, telling medical professionals about any signs in real-time. With ultra-fast communication between vehicles and infrastructure (基础设施), traffic management will become more efficient, improving overall safety. Most importantly, smart cities will develop fast on 6G’s capabilities, with everything being connected and improved in real-time. IoT sensors placed in infrastructure will monitor everything from air quality to energy consumption, improving people’s quality of life.
6G is the next step in the development of wireless communication, promising faster speeds, lower delay, and a host of new applications that will change industries and daily life. While it’s still in the early stages of research and development, the potential for 6G is great, and its arrival could have a great impact in the coming decades.
32. What does paragraph 2 mainly focus on about wireless communication?
A. Its wide use. B. Its great benefits.
C. Its main features. D. Its historical development.
33. How will 6G influence the field of medicine?
A. By enabling real-time health monitoring.
B. By increasing the accuracy of medical devices.
C. By training medical professionals through VR.
D. By improving medical waste management systems.
34. What can be inferred from the fifth paragraph?
A. The success of remote surgery depends on 6G.
B. The applications described need high-speed data transmission.
C. 6G networks are already capable of powering smart cities.
D. The primary goal of 6G is to make entertainment more enjoyable.
35. What is the best title for the passage?
A. The History of Mobile Phones: From 1G to 5G B. How 6G Changed the World
C. Into the Future: The Rise of 6G D. The Dangers of Wireless Technology
