B Sore and weak from her operation, Lorraine Stewart held her 4-hour-old baby, Court, in her hospital bed. Shortly after, Hallie Allison, a certified nursing assistant, came into Lorraine’s room. It was time to take her vital signs. Allison readied the blood pressure cuff and asked Lorraine if she wanted to sit in a chair for a while. Lorraine nodded and shifted in bed. That was when they found Court didn’t move and his face was gray. “My first instinct was to start CPR,” Allison said. Within seconds, she called the charge nurse. She started infant CPR, using two thumbs to press onto the middle of the baby’s chest. Meanwhile, her supervisor ran to Lorraine’s room. She gave chest pressing and back blows to remove anything that might be stuck in his throat. Then she took him out of the room. “Call the NICU,” she yelled to her colleagues. Then Allison left Court’s care to the more highly-trained staffers and came back into Lorraine’s room to comfort her. A team of nurses and doctors continued CPR on Court. Finally, he took a breath. He settled into the NICU for further monitoring. Allison went home at the end of her shift, but she couldn’t stop thinking about the Stewarts. She called her colleagues to check on them throughout the night. For the next several weeks, she visited them every day. Lorraine and her husband, Will, got to hold Court again four days later. He wasn’t strong enough to eat on his own, requiring a feeding tube for months. A month after birth, he went home. Now, he’s a happy and healthy 1-year-old and has hit every milestone. His doctor attributes his excellent outcome to how quickly he received high-quality CPR. “Allison didn’t hesitate. She had the instinct to act right away,” Lorraine said. “The fact that she came back and checked on me shows just how great of a person she is. I think about her every time I look at Court.” 4. Why did Allison enter Lorraine’s room at the beginning? A. To check Lorraine’s condition. B. To take Court to have a check-up. C. To tell Lorraine to have an examination. D. To measure Court’s blood pressure. 5 What did Allison do first when realizing something wrong with Court? A. She did CPR on him. B. She phoned the NICU. C. She rang the head nurse. D. She examined his throat. 6. What can be learned about Court after he came to life? A. He ate through a tube for a month. B. Will visited him the next day. C. Allison looked after him all night. D. He stayed in the NICU for four days. 7. Which of the following can best describe Allison? A. Selfless and honest. B. Quick-minded and considerate. C. Creative and devoted. D. Strong-willed and helpful. C A humanoid robot can relay video and touch sensations to a person wearing haptic feedback gloves and a virtual reality (VR) headset hundreds of kilometres away, offering a way for people to attend events without travelling. iCub 3 is a 52-kilogram, 125-centimetre-tall robot with 54 points of articulation across its aluminium alloy and plastic body. Its head contains two cameras where a human’s eyes would be, and an Internet-connected computer where the brain would go. Along with the cameras, sensors covering its body transmit the collected information to the robot’s “brain”, which is then replicated on the special gloves and VR headset worn by a remote human operator. When the operator reacts to what they see and feel, the gloves’ sensors pick up the movements and the robot matches them. “The key is to translate every signal and bit of numeric data that can be sent through the network,” says Stefano Dafarra at the Italian Institute of Technology, who was part of the iCub 3 team. There can be a small delay of up to 100 milliseconds to transmit the visual film, but the operator can lessen this by moving slightly slower than normal. The team has demonstrated the robot at the Venice Biennale held in Venice in northeastern Italy, where it wandered through an exhibition while its operator stayed in Genoa, a seaport in northwestern Italy. Dafarra hopes people will use iCub 3 to attend events remotely, reducing the need to travel. But at present, a fall could be hugely damaging to the robot, and it’s uncertain whether it could stand up again on its own, he says. “iCub 3 is an interesting robot and offers clear advantages from the previous version,” says Jonathan Aitken at the University of Sheffield, whose laboratory owns a prior version of the robot. However, he is disappointed that the team isn’t clear in its research about iCub 3’s data transmission requirements. “It will be good to know just how much data is required, and what the upper and lower limits are,” he says. 8. What is the function of the sensors on iCub 3’s body? A Sending the data. B. Guiding the operator. C. Stopping iCub 3 from falling. D. Supporting the cameras. 9. What does the underlined word “this” in paragraph 3 refer to? A. The difficulty in filming. B. The network’s disconnection. C. The late transmission of data. D. The operator’s improper use. 10. Why are Venice and Genoa mentioned in paragraph 4? A. To demonstrate iCub 3’s popularity in the two cities. B. To show iCub 3’s ability to break the distance limit. C. To indicate technology’s threat to tourist destinations. D. To note robots’ wide application in Italian exhibitions. 11. What does Aitken want to know about iCub 3? A. The way it captures videos. B. Its process of translating data. C. Its advantages over the prior one. D. The amount of data it requires. D Some researchers in Germany have found leftovers of 5,000-year-old burnt porridge inside a ceramic (陶瓷的) pot. The pot was unearthed at a Neolithic settlement known as Oldenburg LA 77. Historians say the site was once home to one of the oldest villages in the German region of Schleswig-Holstein. “As soon as we looked inside the pot, it was obvious that something went wrong,” says Lucy Kubiak-Martens, an archaeobotanist with the Dutch research firm BIAX Consult. The problem? Whoever attempted to make the meal that day must have cooked it too long, burning the grains inside. The researchers used electron microscopy to learn about the chemical composition of the leftovers. Although burning the food may have ruined someone’s meal thousands of years ago, it also helped preserve the leftovers, allowing today’s researchers to get a better look. “While the animal fats are absorbed into the ceramic and leave a signal there, the plant food components can be detected in the burnt food covering,” says Kubiak-Martens. The researchers found the leftovers contained barley and emmer grains, as well as seeds from a white goosefoot plant. They also learned the barley was harvested and prepared in a style similar to that of contemporary German farmers. The grains appear to have been processed in a sprouted (发芽的) state, which have several advantages over unsprouted grains. For example, sprouted grains are easier to digest and have nutritional benefits, such as higher levels of iron and vitamin C. “Food in the Neolithic Age was therefore by no means single, but rather varied,” according to the study. “People had a highly differentiated sense of taste and attached great importance to good flavour.” Previously, the researchers thought the pot held dairy products. The new analysis revealed the leftovers were actually a “sophisticated combination of plant-based foodstuffs”. The team hopes their findings will help provide a more comprehensive understanding of dietary habits in the region. 12. Why did the leftover porridge get preserved? A. It was burnt by accident. B. It was stored in a ceramic pot. C. It was made from sprouted grains. D. It was processed with special chemicals. 13. What can we infer about the Neolithic people? A. They liked to eat burnt food. B. They had a poor sense of taste. C. They paid attention to nutrition. D. They failed to make various foods. 14. What did the researchers originally think the pot contained? A. Burnt porridge. B. Dairy products. C. Animal fats. D. Plant seeds. 15. What’s the best title for the text? A. The eating habits of ancestors B. The methods of storing leftovers C. Research into the diversity of foods D. One day, a boy knocked his backpack and many crushed soda cans and empty drink bottles that we usually throw into the dustbin fell out. Therefore, the boys in our class mocked him as the “trash king”. Later, during a class meeting, our teacher, Ms. Green, told us about his story of using garbage to make inventions. It turned out that Jack was not an ordinary elementary school student, but a “garbage-inspired inventor” who had won the city invention award. According to Ms. Green, most of his inventions were picked up from garbage dumps. During that class meeting, Jack showed us his invention of a “domestic wastewater separation system”. Afterwards, some of us became deeply interested in these small inventions and started to admire Jack’s way of “picking up trash”. We even joined him in picking up trash on weekends and during holidays. From then on, we no longer called him the “trash king”. Instead, we formed a group of five boys and actively searched for usable materials in various garbage dumps around the city. Under Jack’s guidance, we learned that there are many uses for seemingly useless trash. Once, we stayed at school to process the collected materials. Jack mentioned that he was facing a problem with his latest invention — a small cart for buying vegetables that needed to be lightweight. All other materials were solved except for the wheels. How could we find a suitable material for the wheels? We racked our brains and came up with different ideas, for example, taking off the wheels from suitcases. However, Jack reminded us that our group should focus on making inventions from waste rather than causing damage to create them. We were all deep in thought. 注意: 1. 续写词数应为150个左右; 2. 请按如下格式在相应位置作答。 When I got home and drank a bottle of water, I suddenly had an idea. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Jack indeed adopted my suggestion and fixed a row of bottle caps as wheels on his vegetable cart. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $ 高二英语 (120分钟 150分) 第一部分 听力(共两节,满分30分) 第一节 (共5小题;每小题1.5分,满分7.5分) 听下面5段对话。每段对话后有一个小题,从题中所给的A、B、C三个选项中选出最佳选项,并标在试卷的相应位置。听完每段对话后,你都有10秒钟的时间来回答有关小题和阅读下一小题。每段对话仅读一遍。 1.When might the flight take off? 5. What did Allison do first when realizing something wrong with Court? A. She did CPR on him. B. She phoned the NICU. C. She rang the head nurse. D. She examined his throat. 6. What can be learned about Court after he came to life? A. He ate through a tube for a month. B. Will visited him the next day. C. Allison looked after him all night. D. A. Sending the data. 【答案】8. A 9. C 10. B 11. D 【解析】 【导语】本文是一篇说明文。文章主要讲述了类人机器人iCub 3的构造、工作原理、应用场景以及相关评价。 【8题详解】 细节理解题。根据第二段中“Along with the cameras, sensors covering its body transmit the collected information to the robot’s “brain”, which is then replicated on the special gloves and VR headset worn by a remote human operator.(除了摄像头,覆盖其身体的传感器还会将收集到的信息传输到机器人的“大脑”,然后由远程操作人员佩戴的特殊手套和VR耳机上复制这些信息)”可知,iCub 3身体上的传感器功能是发送数据。故选A。 【9题详解】 词句猜测题。根据第三段中“There can be a small delay of up to 100 milliseconds to transmit the visual film, but the operator can lessen this by moving slightly slower than normal.(传输视觉画面可能会有长达100毫秒的小延迟,但操作人员可以通过比平时稍慢的动作来减少这种延迟)”可知,此处“this”指代的是前文提到的数据传输延迟。故选C。 【10题详解】 推理判断题。根据第四段中“The team has demonstrated the robot at the Venice Biennale held in Venice in northeastern Italy, where it wandered through an exhibition while its operator stayed in Genoa, a seaport in northwestern Italy.(该团队在意大利东北部威尼斯举行的威尼斯双年展上展示了这款机器人,机器人在展览中漫步,而其操作人员则留在意大利西北部港口城市热那亚)”可推知,提到威尼斯和热那亚是为了展示iCub 3突破距离限制的能力。故选B。 【11题详解】 细节理解题。根据第五段中“However, he is disappointed that the team isn’t clear in its research about iCub 3’s data transmission requirements. “It will be good to know just how much data is required, and what the upper and lower limits are,” he says.(然而,令他失望的是,该团队在研究中没有明确iCub 3的数据传输要求。他说:“如果能知道需要多少数据,以及数据的上限和下限是多少,那就好了。”)”可知,Aitken想知道iCub 3需要的数据量。故选D。 D Some researchers in Germany have found leftovers of 5,000-year-old burnt porridge inside a ceramic (陶瓷的) pot. Burnt porridge inside an ancient pot 【答案】12. A 13. C 14. B 15. Afterwards some of us became deeply interested in these small inventions and started to admire Jack’s way of “picking up trash”. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】One possible version: When I got home and drank a bottle of water, I suddenly had an idea. What if we use bottle caps as wheels for Jack’s vegetable cart? It seemed like a simple solution, but it could work if we found enough bottle caps. Excited, I shared my idea with the group the next day. Jack’s eyes lit up with enthusiasm as he realized the potential of this suggestion. We immediately set out to collect as many bottle caps as we could find, not only searching the garbage dumps but also asking friends and family to save them for us. Jack indeed adopted my suggestion and fixed a row of bottle caps as wheels on his vegetable cart. It was a moment of triumph for all of us when we saw our collective efforts and creativity come to fruition. The cart rolled smoothly, and we celebrated our success with high fives and laughter. This experience taught us the power of cooperation, innovation, and looking beyond the surface of things. Inspired by Jack’s ingenuity, our group continued to explore ways to repurpose waste, knowing that small actions could lead to big changes. 词汇激活 行为类 ①意识到:realize/be aware of ②开始做某事:set out to do/set about doing ③导致:lead to/result in/bring about 情绪类 ①兴奋的:excited/thrilled/enthusiastic ②喜悦:triumph/joy/delight 【点睛】【高分句型1】Jack’s eyes lit up with enthusiasm as he realized the potential of this suggestion.(运用了as引导的时间状语从句) 【高分句型2】Inspired by Jack’s ingenuity, our group continued to explore ways to repurpose waste, knowing that small actions could lead to big changes.(运用了过去分词作状语和现在分词作状语和that引导的宾语从句) 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
