Mr. King was the manager of a hotel. One weekend all the hotels in the city were full because there was a large meeting. On Friday night, three men came into the hotel and asked for rooms. Mr. King said there were no rooms ready because of the meeting. The men were unhappy.

On the evening of August 16, 2025, Tsinghua University doctoral student Pang Zhongwang was named a “Touching China” 2024 Awardee. His story, from a young man who overcame great hardships to an inspiring figure, has warmed and motivated countless hearts.
Pang was born poor. His father has a mental illness. His mother, born with spina bifida (脊柱裂), had legs cut off and could hardly move. Pang also had a birth heart problem. But he kept trying: he borrowed money from neighbors for his mom’s treatment and collected scrap (废品) to help pay the family’s debts. He stayed positive, believing “Knowledge changes fate.”
In 2017, Pang got into Tsinghua University with good exam scores. At first, he worried he wasn’t good enough, but he loved research and tried again after failures. He refused donations, using school grants (助学金) and scholarships instead.
