He put her on every ride in the park—the Slide, the Roller Coaster (过山车) and the Wall of Fear... They tried almost everything there in the park. When they went out of the park five hours later, she felt tired and starved. Right away, they hurried to a McDonald’s where her loving husband ordered her a Happy Meal with a chicken hamburger and a large chocolate shake. Then they headed to the cinema to catch the latest film. At the movies, they shared a hot dog, some popcorn, a large soda, and a big bag of M&M’s—her absolute favorite candy. After the movie, the husband drove his heavy wife to the largest store in the city. There, he bought her several dolls that little girls love most. It had been a very full day. The husband felt deeply proud of everything he had done for his beloved wife. Finally, they arrived back home. The wife threw herself into the sofa, tired but pleased. My friends thought I was crazy, but I had an amazing time. It was my best vacation ever!” Kirsty was working for a volunteer program in Tunisia in North Africa. Groups of twenty-five young volunteers work together on archaeological sites (考古遗迹) to find important information about the past. The volunteers have to be very careful, because it’s important not to damage the things they find. Many of them work at Tunisia’s biggest archaeological site in Carthage, but some of them work in other important sites in the country. Kirsty explains why she chose this vacation. “I’ve always been interested in history, and Tunisia has a lot of very important archaeological sites. People were living in Carthage 3,000 years ago. I love being in places that are so old. It was exciting to find pots and other things that people used every day.” It was harder for Kirsty than for some of the others. “I come from Alaska which is a cold place,” she says. “It was hard for me to work under the hot North African sun. Stephen Hawking, the world-famous scientist, died at 76 in Cambridge, UK. Hawking is considered by many to be the greatest scientist in history since Albert Einstein. He came up with the theory that the universe began with the Big Bang and will end in black holes. And this theory became the important base (基础) for a lot of later research. He also wrote books to help common people understand the universe. His most famous book is A Brief History of Time (《时间简史》), which has sold more than 10 million copies around the world, according to CNN. Besides his scientific achievements, Hawking was also someone who had a strong will and positive attitude. When Hawking was 21, he was told that he had a serious illness that stopped him from walking and talking. Later in life, he had to sit in a wheelchair and “speak” using a computerized voice. But this didn’t stop him from living a meaningful and colorful life. “If one is physically disabled, one can not be psychologically (心理上) disabled as well.” he once said. Hawking travelled around the world to attend science meetings, visiting every continent, including Antarctica. He was also a fan of popular culture and appeared on TV shows such as Star Trek and The Big Bang Theory. He celebrated his 60th birthday by going up in a hot-air balloon. When he was 65, he took part in a zero-gravity flight to experience weightlessness. He hoped to travel into space one day. In 2013, Hawking spoke about how he felt life was unfair when he first knew his illness. “But now, 50 years after my illness, I can be quietly satisfied with my life,” he said peacefully. 1.How important is Hawking’s theory that the universe began with the Big Bang and will end in black holes? While teaching in Chongqing, I had chances to travel all across Asia. My adventure (冒险) to the Gobi Desert was one of my favorites. My trip took me from the mountains of Zhangye Danxia, to Jiayuguan, an ancient fort (要塞) on the Great Wall of China. I ended at Dunhuang. I did the journey all by myself. A trip alone meant that I had to depend on my Mandarin (普通话) speaking skills. When I first arrived in China my Mandarin was not good, but I tried to speak to local families and children on the trains. They were all very friendly. I had families practicing English with me as well. We all got our translation apps open when there was an unfamiliar word. Mount Everest was my last major trip before leaving China. I made my way to the famous mountain with a tour group. It was amazing to put myself into Tibetan culture and experience the world through their eyes. I used my language skills to help our group order food in the markets and translate to English when our guide couldn’t find a proper word to express something. Physically, the terrain (地形) was unique, and the high height and lack of oxygen made me feel sick. As a result, I couldn’t sleep well at night. I remembered clearly waking up in the night to get my oxygen tank (氧气瓶) many times. However, I made it. After three days’ traveling, we finally saw sunset and sunrise at the top of Base Camp of Mount Everest. The whole experience made me fall in love with traveling, and gave me the desire (欲望) to experience even more of the world. 1.What was the last stop when the author was on his trip to the Gobi Desert? A.Zhangye Danxia. B.Jiayuguan. C.Dunhuang. D.Potala Palace. 2.The author went to climb Mount Everest with ______. B.Because he had slept too much during the daytime. C.Because animals and people were too noisy outside. D.Because he wanted to see sunset and sunrise very much. 4.What might the author think of his travel? A.Enjoyable. B.Boring. C.Stupid. D.Unhappy. 根据“I ended at Dunhuang.”可知,作者戈壁之行的最后一站是敦煌,故选C。 2.细节理解题。根据“Mount Everest was my last major trip before leaving China. As he got closer, he saw it was a black wallet. He picked it up and opened it—inside were 500 yuan and an ID card belonging to an elderly woman named Mrs. Li. Tom’s heart raced. With that much money, he could finally buy the new basketball shoes he had been saving for. His old shoes were worn out, and his classmates often laughed at him about them.“No one saw me find this,”he thought, “I could just take it...” But then he remembered his parents’ words: “Honesty is the best thing. If you lose something, wouldn’t you hope someone returns it?” After Tom thought for a long time, he made his decision. He went straight to the nearest police station and handed over the wallet. The officer smiled and praised him. Later that evening, Mrs. Li called Tom’s family to thank him personally. She was so happy—the money was her monthly pension (养老金), and losing it would have caused her real difficulty. She kept on giving Tom a reward (奖赏), but he shook his head. “______,”  he said simply. Soon the whole town knew Tom’s story. At school the next week, the headmaster called a special meeting. The bright clear weather and the joy of bringing in the harvest make for a festival happy atmosphere. The Chongyang Festival is usually perfect for outdoor activities. Climbing a mountain, carrying a spray of dogwood (茱萸) and drinking chrysanthemum (菊花) wine have become the traditional activities of the festival. ③The dogwood is a plant with a strong fragrance (香气), and is often used as a Chinese herbal medicine. People in ancient times believed it could drive away evil spirits and prevent one from getting a chill (寒意) in late autumn. So its history as a medicine goes back many centuries. But the custom of carrying a spray of dogwood during the Double Ninth Festival is slowly dying out and many people in the cities do not even know what a dogwood spray looks like. ④Early in Han Dynasty, about 2000 years ago, people used to climb a high platform outside the capital city of Chang’an on the occasion of the Chongyang Festival. For many, it was the last outing of the year before the onset of winter. The custom evolved (发展成) into the present form, when people go climbing to get some exercises as well as enjoy the autumn scenery. ⑤But what about those people who live in plains far from any mountain? The problem is solved by going for a picnic and eating cakes. The Chinese word for “cake” is “Gao”, a homonym of the Chinese word for “high”. Mountains are high, so eating cakes can, by a stretch of the imagination, take the place of going for a climb. 1.Why did people carry a spray of dogwood on Chongyang Festival in ancient times? A.Because the dogwood is a plant with a strong fragrance. B.Because the dogwood can be used as a Chinese herbal medicine. C.Because the dogwood has a long history as a medicine. D.Because people believed the dogwood could drive away evil spirits and prevent one from getting a chill. 2.People now climb mountains on the Chongyang Festival. A.to have a last outing of the year before the onset of winter B.to get some exercises C.to enjoy beautiful autumn scenery D.both B and C 3.Which is the structure of this passage? A.①-②-③-④-⑤ B. C. D. 4.What is the passage mainly about? A.The Double Ninth Festival. B.People climbed mountains to celebrate the Chongyang Festival. C.People often drink chrysanthemum (菊花) wine on the Double Ninth Festival. D.Eating cakes is just like climbing mountains. 【答案】1.D 2.D 3.A 4.A 【导语】本文是一篇说明文,主要讲述了重阳节的多个传统习俗,包括茱萸、登山、菊花酒等习俗的由来和意义。 1.细节理解题。根据第三段“People in ancient times believed it could drive away evil spirits and prevent one from getting a chill (寒意) in late autumn.”可知,古代人们认为茱萸可以驱邪,防止人在深秋受寒。故选D。 2.细节理解题。根据第四段“The custom evolved (发展成) into present form, when people go climbing to get some exercises as well as enjoy the autumn scenery.”可知,现在人们在重阳节爬山是为了锻炼身体和欣赏秋景。故选D。 3.篇章结构题。第一段介绍重阳节的时间和别名;第二段介绍重阳节的活动;第三段介绍茱萸的用途;第四段介绍重阳节爬山习俗的由来;第五段介绍平原地区人们的庆祝方式。因此,文章结构为①-②-③-④-⑤。故选A。 4.主旨大意题。根据第一段“The Chongyang Festival falls on the ninth day of the ninth month of the Chinese lunar calendar, so it is also known as the Double Ninth Festival.”以及全文内容可知,本文主要介绍了重阳节。故选A。 The Palace Museum, a widely visited cultural landmark in Beijing, announced new visiting rules on Thursday. These rules include a ban (禁令) on “interviews” and “commercial (商业的) photography”. Without the museum’s permission, activities such as performances, on-site surveys and religious events are not allowed. The new rules will come into effect on June 30. Those who seriously break the rules will be listed as “uncivilized tourists” Fang Qiongqiong, a cultural sociologist in Shanghai, said these rules were made to prevent chaos (混乱) and improper behavior at historical sites like the Palace Museum. She added that balancing the social and cultural role was a difficult task. Efforts to stop improper behavior at popular tourist spots in China have increased. The Palace Museum’s ban on commercial photo shoots is a noticeable change. A staff member said commercial photo shoots were often seen at the museum and sometimes put off the closing time. The museum’s new rules, especially the ban on photography and filming, have become a hot topic on Sina Weibo. Netizens have different opinions. Some wonder if online streaming will also be banned. One netizen supports the new rule, saying the age of short videos is excessive and people can do crazy things in public places to attract attention. According to data, the Palace Museum welcomed 30,000 visitors on January 1, one of its busiest days. Tags like “Palace Museum’s autumn view” and “snowy Palace Museum” are popular on The Little Red Book. Chen remarked that the new ban might reduce the museum’s exposure (曝光) on the Internet. Doctors there completed the world’s first remote (远程的), micron (微米的) operation on animals by using an independently developed 5G robot. The operation, which took place on June 23 at the center in Guangzhou, was done by a medical team operating the robot from the Zhongshan Eye Center in Haikou. The main part of the robot is a special arm that makes accurate (精准的) remote control possible. When doctors’ hands come to treating eye problems, the common way is to put medicine directly into the eye area. But their hands shake naturally, making it difficult to be very accurate. The robot can copy tasks usually done by hand, and it performs them smoothly and accurately. Another advantage is that even young doctors can perform eye surgery with 5G robot’s help. According to Professor Lin, the leader of the medical team, becoming a skilled eye doctor takes at least 10 years of practice. However, with the help of the robot, young doctors can achieve a high level of accuracy comparable to experienced doctors. The third important point is that using 5G makes it possible for doctors to treat patients far away. Eye doctors can get clear and timely pictures, which makes remote operations dependable. Still, it’s important to remember that while this technology is promising, more research and tests are needed to make sure it’s safe and works well for patients. “If everything goes well, 5G remote micron eye surgery will be available to humans within half a year,” Lin said. The team will keep working hard to help develop remote medicine in China and increase national medical levels. 1.What does the underlined word “it” in Paragraph 2 refer to? A.The doctor’s arm. B.The patient’s eye. C.The robot’s hand. D.The leader’s tool. 2.Which paragraph shows 5G robot may help young doctors? A.Paragraph 1. B.Paragraph 2. C.Paragraph 3. D.Paragraph 4. 3.What can we learn about 5G robot from the passage? A.It can only treat patients nearby. B.It helped complete the eye surgery. C.It has already been widely used. D.It makes the patient healthy within a month. 4.How does Professor Lin feel about the future of 5G robot? A.Worried. B.Surprised. C.Doubtful. D.Hopeful. 【答案】1.C 2.C 3.B 4.D 【导语】本文讲述的是中山大学中山眼科中心在眼科手术领域取得的一项里程碑式成就——利用自主研发的5G机器人成功完成了世界上首例远程微米级动物眼科手术。 1.词句猜测题。根据“The main part of the robot is a special arm that makes accurate (精准的) remote control possible…The robot can copy tasks usually done by hand, and it performs them smoothly and accurately.”可知该机器人可以复制通常手工完成的任务,并且可以流畅、准确地执行这些任务。因此“it”指代前文中的“the robot’s hand”。故选C。 2.推理判断题。第三段中提到“young doctors can achieve a high level of accuracy comparable to experienced doctors”可知,详细说明了5G机器人对年轻医生的帮助。故选C。 3.细节理解题。根据“Doctors there completed the world’s first remote (远程的), micron (微米的) operation on animals by using an independently developed 5G robot.”可知文章开头就介绍了该5G机器人帮助完成了远程眼睛手术,说明它在手术中起到了关键作用。故选B。 4.推理判断题。根据“If everything goes well, 5G remote micron eye surgery will be available to humans within half a year”可知文末提到Professor Lin对技术的发展充满信心,说明他对5G机器人的未来感到乐观,故选D。 Recently, a set of video clips (剪辑) featuring a man showcasing umbrellas with various creative designs has been sent rapidly on the Internet, even spreading overseas and attracting foreigners with the unimaginable “Chinese creativity”, CCTV news reported. In the clips, there are shining laser reflective umbrellas to dispel darkness, umbrellas with floor-length plastic curtains prevent one’s clothes from getting wet, twin umbrellas specially designed for couples and many others. All of them are made by the man in the clips, Lei Penglin. In 2014, 38-year-old Lei has operated an umbrella factory in Shaoxing, Zhejiang province. At first his factory received thousands of orders. Therefore, Lei started to put creative ideas into the products and in 2022, his umbrella with an attached flashlight gained popularity. “Consumers need personalized products. So the umbrellas have to function as decorations (装饰) aside from just preventing sunshine and rain,” Lei said. In the comment section of the product videos, Lei noticed an interesting request with many likes, suggesting that he should make a reflective umbrella for walking in the dark. Following the advice, Lei created the “laser reflective umbrella”, selling over 70,000 units once upon release. From then on, Lei started to attach great importance to comments to absorb new ideas. Presently, Lei spends several hours reading comments every day. “Basically 300 to 500 comments a day, I will read and reply to them all by myself. Only by carefully observing can I know everyone’s need, and solve the after-selling problems on time,” he said. But did you know that in the beginning safaris had little to do with observing wildlife in its natural living areas? The word safari comes from an Arabic word for “journey”, and the earliest safaris were journeys to do trade, hundreds of years ago. These journeys through Africa were often difficult and dangerous, but people from different parts of the world were able to see the unbelievable wildlife there. Eventually (最终) people started to hunt or to study the wildlife, rather than to do trade. Today, most safaris are trips for holidaymakers who want to see animals such as zebras, giraffes, lions and elephants in their natural homes. Some countries also have safari parks-huge parks where the same animals live almost freely, and visitors drive through to see them from inside their cars. Everyone knows that thousands of animals die out every year, and a lot of people believe that safaris and safari parks have an important role to play in the fight to protect some of the planet’s best-known species (物种). Safari parks, like zoos, are places where animals can live safely, and receive food and medical treatment. But unlike zoos, the animals live in almost natural conditions. Real safaris help to protect animal living areas, as they not only bring in money but also help to educate people. Tourists on safari take photos and videos, which they share with their friends and family, and online, spreading the word about the beauty of nature and the importance of protecting it. Not every side of safari tourism is positive (乐观), however. It’s very expensive, and very few people can actually afford to experience it. Safari tourists travel in jeeps, trucks and tour buses, which cause pollution, and some tourists leave rubbish. Some people believe safaris could destroy the very places that they are supposed to protect. As safaris become more popular, it is important that the people who organize and join in them do so responsibly. They must do their best to make sure that these trips into the natural world really are for the benefit of Mother Nature, and not to her disadvantage. 1.What were the earliest safaris mainly for? A.Watching wildlife. B.Trading. C.Studying animals. D.Protecting nature. 2.What is a key difference between safari parks and zoos? A.Animals in zoos are healthier. B.Safari parks don’t allow visitors. C.Safari parks offer more food to animals. D.Animals in safari parks live in natural conditions. 3.What should safari organizers pay attention to? A.Protecting nature. B.Making safaris cheaper. C.Expanding safari parks. D.Increasing the number of tourists. 4.What is the purpose of the text? A.To show the cost of going on a safari. B.To explain how safaris can harm animals. C.To describe the history and development of safaris. In the morning, the husband got up early, made her a nice breakfast and then took her to the biggest amusement park nearby. Many people spend their vacations doing nothing on a beach, but Kirsty Ross wanted to do something different. “I spent three weeks working in the hot sun, digging to find pieces of old cups and plates,” she says. “I worked really hard all day and I slept in a tent. But it was a wonderful chance to meet people from other countries and to learn about the past. It changed my life. I spent three years teaching English at a middle school in Chongqing, China. One afternoon, Tom was walking home from school when he noticed something lying near the sidewalk. Mrs. Li had written a letter praising Tom, and the school gave him a certificate of honor (荣誉证书). His classmates looked at him with respect. The Palace Museum, a widely visited cultural landmark in Beijing, announced new visiting rules on Thursday. The notice also said day tickets would no longer be sold at the museum entrance. All visitors must make reservations in advance with their real names. 1.What did the Palace Museum ban according to the passage? A.Religious events and group tours. D.Just right. 4.Where can readers possibly find this passage? A.In a newspaper. B.In a guide book. C.In a science magazine. D.On a school notice board. Zhongshan Eye Center at the Sun Yat-sen University has achieved a milestone in the field of eye surgery (手术). C.Doubtful. D.Hopeful. Recently, a set of video clips (剪辑) featuring a man showcasing umbrellas with various creative designs has been sent rapidly on the Internet, even spreading overseas and attracting foreigners with the unimaginable “Chinese creativity”, CCTV news reported. However, with more serious competitions, Lei had to explore new opportunities. He found that creative and unique products always stood out. In the future, Lei hopes to make some Chinese-style umbrellas that can be paired with Han-style clothing. “I want to try something new and also advocate for our Chinese culture,” Lei added. 1.Lei got the inspiration of producing a reflective umbrella by ________. A.thinking of his own creative ideas B.reading comments from others C.competing with others for more orders D.learning from the new product videos 2.The laser reflective umbrella is produced to ________. A.drive away darkness B.interest young couples C.match Han-style clothing D.spread Chinese culture 3.What words can best describe Lei? A.Proud and determined. B.Modest and courageous. C.Hard-working and considerate. D.Strong-willed and honorable. When we talk about safaris (游猎), we usually think of excited tourists watching wild animals living freely in Africa. D.To encourage people to stop paying a visit to safaris. 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
