I’m not going to sugarcoat my experience. It takes com mitment and a willingness to change long-held habits. In creating my kitchen, I tried a lot of different alternative products and some plain old common sense; the result, however, has been worth the effort. I’m recycling more and relying less on single-use products and I’m saving money too. I’m not kidding when I say that I used to really love plastic storage bags, so this was, perhaps, the biggest challenge for me. Switching to reusable storage bags is a financial investment, but the cos is reasonable considering that I previously spent at least $ 100 annually on single-use plastic bags and wrap. I will check online periodically for recycling updates, where a zero-waste box for kitchen items is offered, from party supplies to mixed-material food containers. I’m a clean freak (怪人) and used to go through an amount of paper towels on a daily basis, but it’s easy enough to take old T-shirts or towels and cut them up to use to wipe down surfaces. I’m also a fan of bamboo paper towels, which have the look and feel of traditional paper towels, yet are made from a highly renewable source and also break down in just 45 days. Better yet, they can be reused up to 100 times. As for kitchen sponges (海绵擦), I keep an eye out for those made with natural and recyclable materials. When purchasing household items online from companies like Amazon or Jet, I will ask to have them shipped in as few boxes as possible or as small a box as possible if a single item is to be sent. I’ll let the company know that they should pay more attention to how It is packaging items for delivery. 4. What is the author’s main purpose of creating her kitchen? A. To save money. B. To reduce waste and recycle more. C. To change her long-held habits. D. To make it cleaner and more practical. 5. What does the underlined word “sugarcoat” in paragraph 2 mean? A. Make attractive. B. Get interested. C. Show off. D. Give up. 6. In creating her kitchen, what does the author do? A. Begins to recycle more single-use plastic bags. B. Goes through an amount of paper towels on a daily basis. C. Checks online periodically to buy zero-waste box. D. Chooses to use the recyclable or reusable kitchen items. 7. What can we learn about the author from the text? A. She has strong environmental awareness. B. She is used to traditional paper towels. C. She has a good knowledge of financial investment. D. She prefers to have her purchases packed in small boxes. B 5. A 6. D 7. 从文中“A year ago, I decided to create a more environmentally friendly kitchen, focusing on reducing the single-use products such as plastic bags and paper towels.” 从文中“It takes com mitment and a willingness to change long-held habits.” 故选A项。 从文中“I tried a lot of different alternative products and some plain old com mon sense; the result, however, has been worth the effort. I’m recycling more and relying less on single-use products and I’m saving money too.” 从文中“I’m a clean freak and used to go through an amount of paper towels on a daily basis, but it’s easy enough to take old T-shirts or towels and cut them up to use to wipe down surfaces.”可知,作者曾经习惯每天使用一定数量的纸巾,但是现在作者用旧衣服或者毛巾,而B项是说作者现在习惯使用传统的纸巾,与文章不符合,排除B项;从文中“Switching to reusable storage bags is a financial investment, but the cos is reasonable considering that I previously spent at least $ 100 annually on single-use plastic bags and wrap. I willcheck online periodically for recycling updates”可知,作者认为改用可重复使用的打包袋来说,虽然也是一种金融投资,但相比之前,至少花100美金来买一次性的塑料袋和包装来说,其成本也比较合理,可见作者并没有很通晓金融投资,故C项错误;从文中“When purchasing household items online from companies like Amazon or Jet, I will ask to have them shipped in as few boxes as possible or as small a box as possible if a single item is to be sent.”可知,作者在网上购物时,会让卖家尽可能用最少的盒子或者最小的盒子来包装他买的东西,作者是根据自己所买东西来确定使用包装盒子的数量和大小,而并不是他偏爱用小盒子包装他的东西,显然D项与原文不符,故D项被排除;而从文中第一段“A year ago, I decided to create a more environmentally friendly kitchen, focusing on reducing the single-use products such as plastic bags and paper towels.” 如第4小题里选项D,从文中“When purchasing household items online from companies like Amazon or Jet, I will ask to have them shipped in as few boxes as possible or as small a box as possible if a single item is to be sent.” C Making friends is a skill like many other skills. It improves with practice. If you want to meet people and make friends, you must be willing to take some actions. You must first go where there are people. You won’t make friends staying home alone. Join a club or a group. Talking with those who like the same things as you do is much easier. Or join someone in some activities. Many people are nervous when talking to new people. After all meeting strangers means facing the unknown. And it’s human nature to feel a bit uncomfortable about the unknown. Most of our fears about dealing with new people come from doubts about ourselves. We imagine other people are judging us or finding us too tall or too short, too this or too that. But don’t forget that they must be feeling the same way. Try to accept yourself as you are and try to put the other person at ease. You’ll both feel more comfortable. Try to act selfconfidently even if you don’t feel that way. When you enter a room full of strangers, such as a new classroom, walk tall and straight, look directly at other people and smile. If you see someone you’d like to speak to, say something. Don’t wait for the other person to start a conversation. Just meeting someone new does not mean that you will make friends with that person—friendship is based on mutual liking and “give and take”. It takes time and effort to develop. 8. The best title of the text may be________. A Friendship B. How to Make Friends C. Meeting New People D. Facing the Unknown 9. You can’t make friends if you________. A. take some actions B. go to where there are people C. avoid meeting people D. won’t start a conversation 10. Friendship is based on________. A. selfconfidence B. meeting more unknown people C. more talking and smiling to people D. taking from and giving to people 11. Which of the following statements is NOT true? A. Making friends needs practising. B. Making friends needs to be more active in starting a conversation. C. When meeting someone, make him feel nice and starting a conversation. D. Before making friends with someone, judge if he’s too this or too that. B 9. C 10. D 11. 根据第一段的“Making friends is a skill like many other skills. You'll both feel more comfortable.(我们想象其他人在评判我们,或者认为我们太高或太矮,太这个或太那个。但别忘了他们一定也有同样的感受。试着接受自己的现状,试着让对方放松。你们俩都会觉得更舒服)”可知,交朋友不要认为他太这样或太那样,吹毛求疵。D项“在和某人交朋友之前,判断他是不是太这个或太那个。”与原文不符。故选D。 D Wang Guihong, a 23-year-old girl from a farming family in Hubei province, experienced a few “bumps” at the starting line. In addition to giving an animal a home and a loving family, the owner will find the company of a pet brings more happiness than expected. For someone like Maria, having a pet was very suitable. She was all alone after moving to a new apartment in Brazil, which made her feel lonely. So when she found a cute black puppy named Chips, she knew she had to take him home. Maria thought that Chips would be able to fill the emptiness that she had been experiencing from living all alone. Maria was right. Once she took the puppy home, they immediately bonded. However, as Maria had to work during the day, she was worried about leaving Chips home alone in her apartment. She was also worried that his crying would upset her neighbors. One night, when she returned home, outside her door was a package with a folded note attached to it. Maria knew that she was in trouble. She hoped that she would not be evicted (驱逐) from her new apartment because of Chips. She loved Chips so much, and she was afraid that she might have to get rid of him because he made too much noise whenever she was away. Maria was frightened and wondered who could have left it at the door because she had little contact with the people in the building except her neighbor, Angelia. In fact, they only said hello few times. However, when she noticed the names on the folded note, she found that it wasn’t addressed to her but to her dog, Chips, and that it was “written” by another dog named Corote. Maria opened the package first and found a few toys for pets. Curious, Maria opened the note and started reading it. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ With Chips following her, Maria knocked at Angelia’s door. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】 Curious, Maria opened the note and started reading it. The note, which was actually written by her neighbor Angelia in Corote’s voice, said she’d noticed Chips crying a lot. She wanted to give Chips some toys to play with so that he wouldn’t feel alone when Maria was away. Besides, Chips was invited to play with Corote. Maria was deeply moved and felt relieved after reading the note. Instead of expressing discontent, her kind neighbor was really understanding and tried to offer support. Maria felt she needed to meet Angelia and her dog. With Chips following her, Maria knocked at Angelia’s door. The door opened and Maria saw Angelia, smiling at her. Corote, Angelia’s dog, followed her and stared at Chips happily. The two dogs immediately hit it off. A pleasant atmosphere was created when Maria and Angelia were chatting. After that, the two pairs regularly played together. In the process, Maria also got valuable advice from Angelia. Through their shared experiences and the joy their pets brought them, Maria and her neighbor formed a deep connection and their lives became very colorful and meaningful. 1】The note, which was actually written by her neighbor Angelia in Corote’s voice, said she’d noticed Chips crying a lot. 2】Through their shared experiences and the joy their pets brought them, Maria and her neighbor formed a deep connection and their lives became very colorful and meaningful. B A year ago, I decided to create a more environmentally friendly kitchen, focusing on reducing the single-use products such as plastic bags and paper towels. C Making friends is a skill like many other skills. It takes time and effort to develop 8. The best title of the text may be________. A. Friendship B. How to Make Friends C. Meeting New People D. Facing the Unknown 9. You can’t make friends if you________. A take some actions B. go to where there are people C. avoid meeting people D. won’t start a conversation 10. D Wang Guihong, a 23-year-old girl from a farming family in Hubei province, experienced a few “bumps” at the starting line. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
