It was only getting a little small for Lucy although she was growing so fast.”

“Sounds good,” said her mom.
Her dad told her mom he would stop by the store the next day after work and pick out an e· reader for Lucy.

When watching sports events, we often notice athletes wearing earphones on while preparing in the locker room or entering the stadium. They keep their eyes shut, and gently nod along the beats. It seems the music is giving them power and cheering them up for the competition. We sometimes do the same. You might have a list of favorite songs for your morning exercises. But is there any science behind such practices?
According to a recent research, it turns out there is. Music actually does make us feel powerful, but not all songs have the same effect.
The research was led by Dennis Hsu of the Kellogg School of Management at Northwester University in the US. His team had people listen to 31 songs of different types. The listeners felt powerful after listening to some songs, such as Queen’s We Will Rock You and 2 Unlimited’s Get Ready for This.
Researchers also found that high-power music made people want to take control in social events and come first in competition. That matters a lot in sports. “It’s commonly said that sports are 90 percent mental and only 10 percent physical,” The Huffington Post reported.
Great athletes know this idea well. NBA player Kobe Bryant, for example, often puts on big headphones and even falls into deep thought to boost(提升) his game and reduce his anxiety.
As for the reason for music’s magical power, Hsu’s team came up with one possible explanation: when people hear music that expresses a sense of power, they mimic(模拟) these feelings in their mind.
When choosing music, we also need to look at the type of music, according to researchers.
In previous research by the Music in Exercise and Sports Group at Brunei University in London, they found that pop was perfect for slower, more repetitive-type tasks. If you’re warming up or cooling down after exercises, pop songs are the correct choice.
27.What is the main purpose of the first paragraph?
A.To introduce favorite songs for morning exercises.
B.To lead in the topic that music matters in sports.
C.To give an example of athletes’ daily life.
D.To explain how to choose music.
28.According to the passage, Dennis Hsu probably agrees that ________.
A.listening to music always makes athletes relaxed
B.powerful music can make people produce similar feelings in their mind
C.the result of a game is mainly affected by the physical condition of the players
D.most athletes still don’t know the effects of high-power music on their performance
29.What can we learn from the passage?
A.Pop music is a reasonable choice for high-intensity workouts.
B.Rock music helps people keep their rhythms when exercising.
C.People are advised to listen to pop music before and after exercise.
D.People should dance to music while doing strength and weight training.

Collaboration (合作) at work is generally seen as a good thing. The latest survey by the Financial Times found that the ability to work in a team, to work with a wide variety of people and to build and maintain a network of people were three of the top five skills that managers needed.
But managers always have to balance the benefits of teamwork, which help ensure that everyone is working towards the same goal, with the dangers of “groupthink”. When people know about the views of others, they’re more likely to follow, as they do not want to look foolish by deviating from the view of most people.
Modern communication methods mean that collaboration between workers is more frequent. But does that improve or worsen performance?
A new study by Ethan Bernstein, Jesse Shore and David Lazer, three American scholars, tried to answer this question. They set a problem (designing the shortest route for a travelling salesman visiting various cities). Three groups were involved: one where participants acted independently; another where they saw the solutions posted by team members constantly (经常地); and a third where they were kept informed of each other’s views only intermittently (间歇地).
The survey found that members of the individualist group reached the best solution more often than the constant collaborators but had a poorer average result. The intermittent collaborators found the right result as often as the individualists, and got a better average solution.
When new ideas are needed, giving people a bit of space to find a solution seems to be a good idea. Occasional collaboration can be a big help; most people have the experience of getting a wise suggestion from team members.
Close teamwork may be important in the lower reaches of a group, but at the top, someone has to make a decision. At this stage, too much collaboration may be less helpful. Fashion houses with co (联合的)-creative directors are rated as less creative than brands that were individually led. Co-led teams of Himalayan climbers are more likely to suffer deaths than those with single leaders Experts think that co-leadership “creates uncertainty over who is really in charge (负责)”. The battles between Sandy Weill and John Reed when they were co-CEO ( Chief Executive Officer) of Citigroup in the late 1990s were infamous (臭名昭著的). Less than 5% of companies in the Fortune 500 have used a co-CEO structure since then.
In short, collaboration may be a useful tool, but it doesn’t work in every situation.
30.What does the underlined word “deviating” in Paragraph 2 probably mean?
A.Suffering. B.Differing. C.Avoiding. D.Supporting.
31.In the new study conducted by three American academics, ________.
A.constant collaborators had the poorest average solution
B.all participants had the chances to visit various cities
C.individualists found the right result the most often
D.occasional collaboration promoted performance
32.From the 7th paragraph, we can learn that ________.
A.fashion houses were more likely creative with a single leader
B.Himalayas climbers work together to avoid potential deaths
C.Sandy Weill and John Reed were not so creative leaders
D.successful companies have one Chief Executive Officer
33.What is the best title for the passage?
A.What is collaboration? B.When does collaboration work?
C.Why collaboration is highly valued? D.How to collaborate with others in a team?
【答案】30.B 31.D 32.A 33.B
根据“When people know about the views of others, they’ re more likely to follow, as they do not want to look foolish by deviating from the view of most people.”可知,当人们知道别人的观点时,他们更有可能跟随,因为他们不想因为偏离大多数人的观点而显得愚蠢,因此“deviating”意为“不同”,故选B。
31. 细节理解题。根据“The intermittent collaborators found the right result as often as the individualists, and got a better average solution”可知,间歇性合作促进了表现,故选D。
32.推理判断题。根据“Fashion houses with co (联合的)-creative directors are rated as less creative than brands that were individually led”可知,拥有共同创意总监的时装公司被认为不如单独领导的品牌有创意,所以单一领导的时尚公司更具创造性,故选A。
33.最佳标题题。根据全文内容,尤其是最后一段“In short, collaboration may be a useful tool, but it doesn’t work in every situation”可知,文章讨论了合作在何种情况下有效,故选B。
第二部分
本部分共5题, 共20分。根据题目要求, 完成相应任务。
四、 阅读表达(共10分, 第1-3题每小题2分, 第4小题4分)
In today’s digital (数字的) age, video platforms like YouTube, iQIYI and bilibili all offer viewers the choices to watch content (内容) at different speeds, from the standard “normal” play up to “2X” or even faster.
Joel Jelen, a 55-year old, has been a fan of the fast-forward button for about 15 years, mainly for one type of content. “I often watch sports videos at double speed,” he shares. “I started doing this because I realized life is too short to sit through a football match from the beginning to the end.” What began as a work break habit has become a preferred way of relaxation for Jelen. “It’s very relaxing and a great break from my job. I get to catch all the key moments and action without spending hours upon hours.”
It’s true that packing more viewing into less time sounds effective. However, Zhang, a film reviewer, argues, “Many people make thoughtful choices about pacing, lighting, timing, and music to perfect their films. Speeding up can ruin (毁坏) the experience.” According to Zhang, if someone speeds up a movie while watching, their critique (评论) of the film cannot be valid (合理的).
Sometimes getting a quick overview and feeling a sense of achievement from consuming (消费) another piece of information seem to become more important. As a result, people speed up content to tick off “watched” or “listened to” from their to-do lists, instead of truly enjoying the movies and songs. However, people don’t realize that sped-up content sometimes destroy their patience with life. One Chinese Internet user said, “I found myself growing impatient with tasks like research for work or studying for exams, which can take hours, days, or even weeks. I’d think, ‘How can I speed this up?’ And that thought really scares me.”
We already live in a fast-paced society, yet we still try to speed it up in every aspect (方面). But at what cost? Some things should remain unhurried, such as our appreciation (欣赏) for beauty and the value of hard work.
34.According to the passage, what do video platforms offer viewers?
35.What kind of videos does Joel Jelen watch at double speed?
36.How do people make their movies perfect?
37.When you watch videos, would you like to watch at the normal speed or speed up the content? Why would you like to do so? (Please give two reasons.)

The paper, usually red, is folded before it is cut into flowers, animals, and things about Chinese culture. Second, some students will show us how to make tea and you can try it by yourself. Besides, you will have the chance to learn how to create Chinese clay art pieces that are cute and lively! In addition, we will learn to make sky lanterns with bamboo and paper.
Traditional food and art forms carry people’s wishes. This activity will not only help you better understand Chinese symbols, but also help to spread Chinese culture.
We hope you can join us and enjoy this festival!
I’m looking forward to your early reply.
Yours,
Li Hua

Lucy’s birthday was coming. She would turn twelve in just four days. Her mom had asked her what she wanted as a gift this year. Lucy thought for the past few weeks about what she would like. She thought maybe a new basketball, or maybe a new bike, or an e-reader. She told her mom her choices and said that she hoped to be surprised.
“Any of those gifts would be great,” she said. Secretly, she hoped for an e-reader. Lucy loved reading fiction.
Lucy’s mom told her dad Lucy’s choices and they talked about the list of gifts one night after Lucy went to sleep. Her dad said, “I think Lucy may get tired of the basketball.” Her mom said, “We just bought her a new bike last New Year. It was only getting a little small for Lucy although she was growing so fast.”
“I think we should get Lucy an e-reader,” said her dad. “She is so interested in reading books and she would like that the best. I know some of her friends use e-readers to read books.”
“Sounds good,” said her mom.
Her dad told her mom he would stop by the store the next day after work and pick out an e· reader for Lucy.
Sunday morning came. Lucy was so excited about her birthday and she ran down the stairs into the living room. Her gift was usually near her chair at the table. She saw a box and when she opened it, she shouted, “It’s an e-reader!”
“Happy Birthday!” said her mom and dad.
“This is fantastic! I was hoping that you would give me an e-reader. I probably wouldn’t use the basketball much, and my bike is okay for now. But I can use the e-reader! Thanks so much.” said Lucy.
