Work to make mantou starts in the evening and finishes at lunchtime the next day.
The yeast is mixed with flour, eggs and water to create dough. Then the dough is covered with a blanket and people leave it overnight(通宵)on the top of a kang. Kang is a traditional earthen-brick bed in many parts of the Chinese countryside.

On Wednesday, People’s Liberation Army(PLA中国人民解放军)of China showed all five types of its newest fifth-generation fighter jets for the first time at a big military parade(阅兵)in Beijing. This was to mark the 80th anniversary(周年纪念日)of the victory(胜利)in the Chinese People’s War of Resistance(反抗)Against Japanese Aggression(侵略)and the World Anti-Fascist(反法西斯)War.
The planes — J-20, J-20A, J-20S, J-35A from the Air Force, and the Navy’s J-35 — flew over Tian’anmen Square in formation. The parade lasted 70 minutes.
This was the first public appearance of the J-20S(the world’s only two-seat stealth fighter), the J-20A(an improved J-20 with a more powerful engine), and the J-35(the Navy’s first stealth(隐形的)plane).
Fu Qianshao, an aircraft expert, said the J-20S has two seats: one for the pilot and one for an operator who controls electronic equipment or helps with attacks.
The J-20A has a bigger spine, a new nose, and better air intakes for its new engine. This engine is more powerful and helps the plane fly better.
The J-35A is another new stealth fighter. It can control the sky and attack land or sea targets.
Wang Mingzhi, an Air Force researcher, said the J-20 series and J-35A will work together in future battles.
The Air Force also showed a new version of the Y-20 transport plane — the Y-20B. It has new Chinese-made engines that are stronger and use less fuel. This allows the PLA to carry supplies farther than before.
Several new combat drones(无人机)were also shown in the parade. This suggests the Air Force may use more drones in the future.
Wu Peixin, an aviation expert, said many countries are now using stealth fighters together with drones. “Stealth jets are expensive and advanced, while drones are cheaper. In battle, a pilot can guide drones to attack targets without taking big risks,” he said. This new way of fighting could change air combat in the future.
1. Why did the PLA display the fifth-generation fighter jets at the parade?
A. To celebrate Army Day.
B. To mark the 80th anniversary of the victory in the War of Resistance.
C. To test their new equipment.
D. To train new pilots.
2. What is a key improvement of the J-20A compared to the basic J-20?
A. It has more weapons. B. It can carry more people.
C. It is cheaper to produce. D. It has a new engine and improved design.
3. According to Wu Peixin, what is the advantage of using drones together with stealth fighters?
A. Drones are more fun to watch. B. Drones are cheaper and can be used in risky situations.
C. Drones can replace pilots completely. D. Drones are faster than stealth fighters.

As a language learner, you are not alone. About 1.2 billion people are learning a foreign language. However, not all of them enjoy success. We talked to hundreds of successful language learners. They shared some of their habits(习惯)with us.
One key to long-term success is working towards the goal all the time. Most successful language learners make sure they spend a few minutes practicing every day. Some language learners practice their language only in class. In the long run, they improved less than those who practice daily.
The second habit of successful language learners is that they don’t study too much and too long at a time. Instead, they study for a short period each time. And then after a break, they continue. Over a longer time, they make progress.
Some language learners always want to learn as much new material as they can. But review(复习)also plays an important role in learning. Do you still remember all the English words and expressions you learned last year? Successful language learners review the old material. Going over lessons turns the short-term memory(记忆)into the long-term one.
Are you having a hard time improving your English? Then you may try to develop these three habits. Don’t worry if it takes time. Learning a second language well should take time!

Many Chinese primary and middle school students can’t do housework today and do not take such work seriously. So some are unable to cook or wash their own clothes when they enter college. The Ministry of Education(教育部)starts a new curriculum standard(课程标准)for housework education for students from Grade 1 to Grade 9, making it an important course that students must take at least once a week. The new standard asks students in Grade 1—2 to learn to sweep the floor, Grade 3—4 to learn to plant vegetables, and Grade 5—6 to have the skills of cooking two to three dishes. Students in middle schools will learn to repair machines instead of paying someone to do it. This new standard is popular among many people.
Wang: We all know housework education is important. However, some students are unable to do the easiest housework, as their parents think they should spend more time on study. Some of them grow to be unwilling to do any kind of housework. Housework education should make students become more interested in labour(劳动), help them try different kinds of housework, and most importantly, correct the way they think about labour. The housework course will become an important way to make their personalities better.
Li: In order for students to grow up in an all-round way, primary and middle schools should add the housework course to their curriculum and help students learn and love housework. It is important to make the housework class interesting so that the students will really get some skills for daily life. For this reason, school have to invite more professional teachers to give classes instead of putting this new stress on parents and other teachers who are already busy with their daily work.
Zhang: Some people think students don’t have to waste time learning housework. If you want to have meals, you can order food through the Internet. And for machine repairs, you can ask for professional(专业的)help. However, people with the skills of housework can go through daily life much more easily.
It is the first step in helping young students have a healthy idea of labour and be able to look after themselves in daily life.

________________________________________________________
【答案】While working in his brother’s print shop, Franklin taught himself by reading a lot.
【解析】在他哥哥的印刷店工作期间:While working in his brother’s print shop,这里用“while + 现在分词”的结构表示“在做某事期间”;自学:teach oneself。主语是富兰克林,用himself;通过大量阅读:by reading a lot 。结合语境可知,此题描述的是过去发生的事情,时态用一般过去时,teach的过去式是taught。故译成While working in his brother’s print shop, Franklin taught himself by reading a lot.
2. 青少年有必要学会勇敢面对困难。
________________________________________________________
【答案】It is necessary for teenagers to learn to face difficulties bravely.
【解析】根据汉语意思可知,本句时态用一般现在时。“青少年”英文翻译为“teenager”,并用复数形式“teenagers”;“学会”英文翻译为“learn to”,放不定式to之后,用动词原形learn,“勇敢面对困难”英文翻译为“face difficulties bravely”,放不定式to之后,用动词原形face,整个“to learn to face difficulties bravely”作真正的主语;“有必要”英文翻译为“It is necessary”,作形式主语;结合所给的it固定句型,此处应是“It is necessary for teenagers to learn to face difficulties bravely.”。故译成It is necessary for teenagers to learn to face difficulties bravely.
3. 她决定步行上学,而不是坐公交。(rather than)(汉译英)
________________________________________________________
【答案】She decided to walk to school rather than take the bus
【解析】she翻译为“她”,作主语;decide to do sth“决定做某事”,walk to school“步行上学”,rather than“而不是”,take the bus“坐公交”,此处叙述发生过的事,谓语用一般过去时。故译成She decided to walk to school rather than take the bus。
4. 做完后,我们把玩偶送给了米莉的邻居,一个小女孩。
________________________________________________________
【答案】After we finished, we gave the doll to Millie’s neighbour, a little girl.
【详解】“做完后”表达为“After we finished”,“把……送给……”用“give...to...”,句子描述过去的动作,“give”用过去式“gave”;“米莉的邻居”是“Millie’s neighbour”;“一个小女孩”是“a little girl”,用于补充说明“Millie’s neighbour”。整个句子是一般过去时,符合对过去动作的描述。故译成After we finished, we gave the doll to Millie’s neighbour, a little girl.
5. 一进去,他就发现自己的房间乱七八糟的。
________________________________________________________
【答案】As soon as he went in, he found his own room in a mess.
【解析】从句:“as soon as” 表示“一…… 就……”;“进去”用“went in”(go in 的过去式);主句:“他”译为“he”,首字母大写;“发现”译为“find”;“他自己的房间”译为“his own room”;“乱七八糟”译为“in a mess”;谓语动词“发现”用“found”(find的过去式),符合过去时态,且“find +宾语+宾语补足语”的结构(found his room in a mess),也可以用“find +(that)宾语从句(found (that)his room was in a mess”。故译成As soon as he went in, he found his own room in a mess/he found (that)his own room was in a mess.

【答案】
How to Be a Good Learner?
As we know, the policy of “double-lightening the burden” has been carried out. Being a good learner has become even more important. But how to be a good learner? Here are some suggestions.
Firstly, we are supposed to develop some good habits of learning. For example, we should preview the lesson before class and review what we have learnt after class. Secondly, we might learn to use AI to study. We can use the technology to make our study efficient. Thirdly, we’d better make full use of the time at school. We ought to concentrate on our lessons in class and solve all the problems just in time. To be a good learner, studying in groups and helping each other are also good for us. What’s more, we can spend more time with my family taking part in outdoor activities, such as going hiking, which helps improve our relationship a lot.
Hope the suggestions are helpful to us to be a good learner.
