Nowadays, China’s tourism market is changing quietly. More and more tourists no longer stick to long and tiring trips to faraway places. Instead, they choose short trips near their homes now! This is because they want to experience local life, not rush through sightseeing.
Experts see this as a fashion for slower, deeper travel experiences. Lin Keya from Urumqi, Xinjiang, spent a few days in a village nearby for the National Day holiday last year. It only took her two hours to drive there. In the morning, clear bird calls came through the window and woke her up. At night, bright moonlight covered the farmyard. With soft insect sounds from far away, she slept very well. “This natural place is like a pair of gentle hands. It eases the tiredness in my heart.” Another traveler, Ms. Peng, made a trip with her family from Guiyang to Leshan. Both cities are located in Southwest China. She said busy sightseeing tours only touch the surface—what truly attracts (吸引) people now is deep trips. “Spending less time on the road gave us more time to enjoy the place,” said Peng.
This trend (趋势) is growing because China is developing its high-speed rail network. It now covers over 46,000 kilometers and connects over 96 percent of cities with more than 500,000 people, reported China Daily. High-speed trains give many travelers, especially elderly ones, relaxing trips, and they can easily enjoy the scenery along the way and the beauty of their destinations.
5. More Chinese travelers choose shorter trips close to home in order to ________.
A. save money B. avoid traveling far
C. enjoy local life deeply D. save time for long trips
6. How did Lin Keya feel about her trip to the village?
A. Relaxed. B. Tired. C. Bored. D. Excited.
7. What can we learn from the text?
A. Ms. Peng lives in Guiyang, far away from Leshan.
B. Most people like spending more time on busy sightseeing.
C. The development of high-speed rail helps the trend of shorter trips grow.
D. The more cities are connected with the railway, the fewer young travelers will be.
8. Why does the text mention Lin Keya and Ms. Peng?
A. To show how people plan trips. B. To give examples of the travel trend.
C. To talk about their favorite cities. D. To explain why high-speed rail is popular.
【答案】5. C 6. A 7. C 8. B

C
Having worked in a nature reserve (保护区) for 30 years, Hou Tieguo has developed a special ability — he can tell what kind of birds are around simply by their singing. “I can also tell whether they are happy or unhappy,” he added with a big smile.
The 52-year-old’s home, Baihualing, a village in Yunnan province, is well-known for different kinds of birds. He recalled, in the 1970s, people were so poor. Birds were often killed for food, so almost all the children including him in the village were good at using slingshots (弹弓).
His life changed in 1989 when a couple walking through the mountains visited Baihualing. They asked him to be their guide and lead them to good bird-watching spots. He said, “That was the first time I had made money from birds without killing them.”
Encouraged by that, the villagers built a reserve to feed birds and protect the living places of birds. In the following ten years, ▲ . The village became a popular choice for bird lovers, and most villagers have turned into bird protectors and taken part in serving bird-loving tourists.
In the village, there are more than 60 “bird guides” like Hou. More than 20 guesthouses which have hosted visitors from more than 100 countries bring in a total income (总收入) of 1.5 million yuan every year. “During the busy season, I serve nearly 100 tourists a day.
