You can move your ugly car up now!” The silver-haired driver behind me in a fancy truck rudely yelled at me. Without much thought, I yelled back at the man, “What? Are you in a rush or something? ” I was waiting in line at the drive-through to order our breakfast on a Sunday morning. There were only 12 inches or so between me and the car in front of me. There were also three additional cars in front of that one. We were getting nowhere fast. What was he hoping to gain by yelling at me? I wanted to let my own anger go after this ridiculous exchange. But the more I thought about it, the angrier I got. I was angry that he yelled at a mother in front of two kids. My daughter and my son were both confused and saddened by what they had just witnessed. We were on our way to a soccer tournament, and we had a bonus day free from school and work. Probably, there was nothing in the world to be upset about. Then this man let his anger out. I told my kids I was so mad that I had to roll my window up so that I wouldn’t keep yelling at this guy. Then, I stopped and looked back. I had moved up the 12 or so inches at his “suggestion”, while he hadn’t moved an inch. Suddenly, I felt sympathy for him. He must have been suffering in some way. As my kids and I slowly made our way to the pick-up window to pay for our order, I had an idea. “I heard how rude that man was to you, and I wanted to apologize to you for having to put up with that. He isn’t worth paying for,” the cashier said to me. “My kids support me in doing that,” I answered the cashier, adding that hate cannot drive out hate. 4. Why was the driver angry with the author? A. Her car cut in. B. She held up his truck. C. Her car stopped suddenly. D. She screamed at him. 5. What does the author mainly tell us in paragraph 3? A. Why her anger kept growing. B. What her kids’ reaction was. C. How she calmed herself down D. Why she ordered the breakfast. 6. What was the author’s final decision? A. She taught her kids a lesson. B. She apologized to the driver. C. She paid for the driver’s food. D. She gave the cashier some advice 7. What does the author intend to convey in the text? A. Respond to hate with kindness B. Deal with a man as he deals with you. C. Put distance between your car and another. D. Never go to the drive-through at rush hours C Though brown pelicans (鹈鹕) have bounced back from the endangered species list, they have been suffering from the second life-threatening event in recent years. Large numbers of the species are showing up sick and injured along California’s coastline, and experts are racing to find out why. A volunteer feeds sick brown pelicans recovering at the Wetlands and Wildlife Care Center of Orange County. The center is currently caring for over 100 brown pelicans which have been discovered starving or being sick in recent weeks. During the starvation event in 2022, nearly 800 brown pelicans were admitted to wildlife nursing centers and received considerate care, with only 394 eventually returned to the wild, according to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. The cause of the current crisis remains largely unknown, but some interesting guesses are flying about. At one point, the birds were checked for the flu that has newly infected so many animals this year. Luckily, none of the sick pelicans tested positive for it. “We don’t have any indication that it's directly human-caused, either.” says Henkel, a senior environmental scientist. “It’s not a human action of any kind that we’re aware of.” One theory is that powerful winds may be to blame, as low visibility could be preventing the pelicans from diving well enough to catch their meals, and hungry birds often get trapped in fishing lines. The evidence pointing to starvation as the cause may also better explain why the pelicans come in with injuries. Those involved in brown pelican recovery efforts note that while you should keep your distance from them, humans can be of assistance by immediately reporting an animal sighting to a local rescue center and keeping an eye on it until help arrives. Such an urgent response can often mean the difference between life and death for a pelican that needs life-saving care. If you are an expert, proper treatment for the affected pelicans may involve offering them lots of nutrition and water, or caring for wounds and giving them relevant medication in the center. 8. What can we learn about brown pelicans? A. They have recently been classified as endangered. B. A steep decline in their numbers is attributed to physical harm. C They have experienced long-term hunger. D. Their population has shown modest signs of recovery. 9. Why does the author list data in paragraph 2? A. To prove the pelicans face severe problems. B. To highlight the mindful care for the pelicans. C. To reveal the pelicans mainly die of hunger. D. To stress volunteers' role in saving the pelicans. 10. Which of the following is a theory that may cause the pelicans’ trouble? A. They are being poisoned by polluted water. B. They are unable to hunt effectively due to bad weather conditions. C They are losing their habitats because of coastal development. D. They are being attacked by other larger birds. 11. How should an ordinary person deal with a sick brown pelican? A. Feed food and water to it. B. Rush it to a rescue center. C. Seek timely professional help. D. Give it an immediate exam. D You are more likely to think of the information that is repeated to be true than the information you hear only once. You assume that if people are going to put in effort to repeat a statement, this reflects the truth of the statement. Simply repeating some pieces of information does not actually make it true, but this tendency — also called the illusory (错觉的) truth effect — is a prejudice that can lead you to draw the wrong conclusions. An important step in decreasing the negative influence of prejudices in thinking is to be aware of them. To what degree are people aware of the illusory truth effect? This question was addressed in the journal Cognition by Simone Mattavelli. In the critical study, participants did two sessions. In one session, they read about a study in which people were exposed to trivia (琐事) statements and then were asked whether both statements they had heard before as well as new statements were true. They were asked to predict the percentage of each statement that would be judged as true. At another session a few days later, participants actually performed this study, reading a set of 20 trivia statements and then judging the truth of 40 statements, half of which were the ones they saw earlier and the other half of which were new. This study replicated the illusory truth effect. People were more likely to judge statements they had seen before as true than statements that were new. Two interesting findings emerged from the predictions. First, participants tended to underestimate the size of the illusory truth effect for everyone. Second, participants were more wrong when predicting their own performance compared to predicting the performance of another person. This work is particularly important in light of the amount of misinformation presented in social media. Many people are influencing public opinions about political and economic matters. Social media websites with misinformation will lead people to believe this information is true just because it is stated. 12. What is Simone’s study mainly about concerning the illusory truth effect? A. People’s awareness of it. B. People’s reaction to it. C. Its causes. D. Its process. 13. How did the participants engage in the first session of the study? A. Reading, repeating and judging. B. Reading, assessing and forecasting. C. Recording, judging and predicting. D. Predicting, observing and reflecting. 14. What does the underlined word “replicate” in paragraph 4 mean? A. Correspond with. B. Be contrary to. C. Put forward. D. Account for. 15. What is the author’s attitude toward Simone’s study? A. Unclear. B. Dismissive. C. Doubtful. D. Approving. Knowing another language opens doors for kids and adults alike. Instead, we agreed on a compromise: I would volunteer at a nearby animal shelter on weekends to prove my responsibility and commitment. That's what led me to the Avondale pet shelter — and more importantly, to meet my future best friend, Chocolate. One sweltering afternoon in August, my supervisor Charlie informed me that a young black Labrador would be arriving and that I’d be assigned as its main caretaker. An hour later, Chocolate walked in — a striking dog with glossy brown fur and bright blue eyes. Though he was around three months old, an age I assumed would be full of energy and playfulness, he instantly withdrew and settled at the far end of his enclosure. Curious about his behavior, I asked Charlie what was wrong. He explained that Chocolate had been born with a genetic condition that left him with a very short tail, making people suspect he was unhealthy. Because of that, the breeder believed they had no option but to surrender him to the shelter. Chocolate had been ignored and undervalued. It upset me to think that a dog who was otherwise perfectly healthy could be discarded so carelessly. At the same time, my heart went out to this puppy who’d been denied the affection and care he rightly deserved. Right then, I made up my mind to give Chocolate all the love and attention I could during my time as a volunteer. Although hesitant and reserved at first, Chocolate gradually began to trust me through patience, treats, and play. Little by little, he started to open up. Before long, every time I approached his pen to take him out for walks or games, he’d be thrilled, bouncing around happily. Paragraph 1: As time passed by, the connection between Chocolate and I grew stronger and stronger. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Paragraph 2: One day, Charlie said Chocolate must find a home soon or he would be removed. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $ 合肥一中2026届高三10月份教学质量测评 英语试题 (考试时间:120分钟 满分:150分) 注意事项: 1. 1. D. Never go to the drive-through at rush hours 【答案】4. B 5. A 6. C 7. You can move your ugly car up now!(‘嘿,女士! 和第二段“There were only 12 inches or so between me and the car in front of me. There were also three additional cars in front of that one. We were getting nowhere fast. What was he hoping to gain by yelling at me? 根据文章第三段“I wanted to let my own anger go after this ridiculous exchange. Then this man let his anger out.(在这次荒谬的交流之后,我想放下自己的愤怒。 故选A。 根据文章倒数第二段“As my kids and I slowly made our way to the pick-up window to pay for our order, I had an idea.(当我和孩子们慢慢走向取货窗口为我们的订单付款时,我有了一个主意。)”和文章最后一段“I heard how rude that man was to you, and I wanted to apologize to you for having to put up with that. He isn’t worth paying for,” the cashier said to me. 通过最后一段中““My kids support me in doing that,” I answered the cashier, adding that hate cannot drive out hate.(‘我的孩子们支持我这样做,’我回答收银员,并补充说,仇恨不能驱除仇恨。)” 故选A项。 C Though brown pelicans (鹈鹕) have bounced back from the endangered species list, they have been suffering from the second life-threatening event in recent years. C. They have experienced long-term hunger. C. They are losing their habitats because of coastal development. D. They are being attacked by other larger birds. 11. How should an ordinary person deal with a sick brown pelican? A. Feed food and water to it. B. Rush it to a rescue center. C. Seek timely professional help. D. Give it an immediate exam. D 9. A 10. B 11. 根据第一段“Though brown pelicans (鹈鹕) have bounced back from the endangered species list, they have been suffering from the second life-threatening event in recent years. 根据第二段“The center is currently caring for over 100 brown pelicans which have been discovered starving or being sick in recent weeks. During the starvation event in 2022, nearly 800 brown pelicans were admitted to wildlife nursing centers and received considerate care, with only 394 eventually returned to the wild, according to the U. S. Fish and Wildlife Service. 故选A。 根据第四段“One theory is that powerful winds may be to blame, as low visibility could be preventing the pelicans from diving well enough to catch their meals, and hungry birds often get trapped in fishing lines.(一种理论认为,强风可能是罪魁祸首,因为低能见度可能会阻止鹈鹕充分俯冲捕食,饥饿的鸟儿经常被鱼线困住。)” 根据最后一段 “Those involved in brown pelican recovery efforts note that while you should keep your distance from them, humans can be of assistance by immediately reporting an animal sighting to a local rescue center and keeping an eye on it until help arrives. C。 D You are more likely to think of the information that is repeated to be true than the information you hear only once. A. Unclear. B. Dismissive. C. Doubtful. D. Approving. A 13. B 14. A 15. 根据第二段“To what degree are people aware of the illusory truth effect? This question was addressed in the journal Cognition by Simone Mattavelli.(人们对真相错觉效应的意识程度如何? 故选A。 根据第三段“In one session, they read about a study in which people were exposed to trivia statements and then were asked whether both statements they had heard before as well as new statements were true, They were asked to predict the percentage of each statement that would be judged as true.(在一个环节中,他们阅读了一项研究,在这项研究中,人们接触到一些琐事陈述,然后被问及他们之前听到过的陈述和新陈述是否都是真实的。 根据划线词所在句下文“People were more likely to judge statements they had seen before as true than statements that were new.(人们更倾向于认为他们之前看到过的陈述是真实的,而不是那些新的陈述。)” 故选A。 根据最后一段“This work is particularly important in light of the amount of misinformation presented in social media.(考虑到社交媒体上存在的大量错误信息,这项工作尤为重要。)” Knowing another language opens doors for kids and adults alike. But most educators agree that childhood is the ideal time for language learning. If you want your children to be bilingual (双语的), here is where to start. You should be flexible and use the method working best for your family. Some families favor “one parent, one language”. Some take on the task of learning a second language alongside their children. ____16____ Depending on your home situation, this can require a lot of planning, effort and persistence (坚持) on your part. You’d better use all of the resources at hand. While having back-and-forth conversations with native speakers is the most effective, there are lots of other ways. ____17____ Watching a favorite show or reading an interesting book in the non-dominant (非主导的) language can make learning enjoyable. You may also find classes and schools that teach in the language you want your children to learn. ____18____ Travel is one way to engage your kid in everyday situations that are meaningful and real. Exposure to the language in its real context can significantly boost a child’s interest in and understanding of the language. But time abroad is not a requirement for real interactions. ____19____ For example, your son can use Spanish when playing with his Spanish-speaking cousins. While you can always change the language learning plan if the path you’re on isn’t working, you shouldn’t get too discouraged when things aren’t happening as quickly as you might expect. ____20____ Language learning is a progressive and long-lasting process, and breakthroughs may come in unexpected ways and at different times for each individual. A. Know there’s a lot happening under the surface. B. Provide authentic opportunities for speaking practice. C. Individuals have different levels of fluency in each language. D. Introduce TV programs, songs and books in both languages to children. E. And others use a mix of strategies to expose their kids to both languages. F. Books can be used in a way that is developmentally appropriate for children. G. As a matter of fact, they can take place with relatives speaking the language. E 17. D 18. B 19. G 20. My parents never supported the idea of my having a pet, worrying about the mess it might cause or that I’d soon grow bored of looking after it. Although hesitant and reserved at first Chocolate gradually began to trust me through patience, treats, and play. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】Paragraph 1: As time passed by, the connection between Chocolate and I grew stronger and stronger. Every weekend morning, I’d rush to the shelter with his favorite peanut butter treats, and he’d already be waiting by the enclosure, his blue eyes shining with excitement. We’d spend hours walking in the shelter’s small yard. One rainy afternoon, I sat with him inside his pen, reading a book aloud, and he curled up on my lap, his warm body calming my nerves after a tough week at school. I realized then that Chocolate wasn’t just a dog I cared for; he was the friend I’d been waiting for, and the thought of leaving him at the shelter each Sunday night made my chest ache. Paragraph 2: One day, Charlie said Chocolate must find a home soon or he would be removed. My heart dropped — I couldn’t bear the idea of Chocolate being sent away. That night, I sat my parents down and told them everything: about Chocolate’s short tail, how he’d been abandoned, and all the little moments that made him so special. I even showed them the photos I’d taken. To my surprise, my mom wiped away a tear, and my dad sighed, saying, “We can’t let that poor guy go. Let’s bring him home.” The next weekend, I walked Chocolate out of the shelter for the last time, his leash in my hand and a smile on both our faces. Finally, he had a forever home — and I had my best friend. 词类激活 行为类 ①匆忙前往:rush/dash/hurry ②心情下沉:sink/drop ③擦去:wipe away/brush off 情绪类 ①心里难受:make my chest ache/make my heart hurt ②平复我的紧张情绪:calm my nerves/relieve my anxiety 【点睛】【高分句型1】Every weekend morning, I’d rush to the shelter with his favorite peanut butter treats, and he’d already be waiting by the enclosure, his blue eyes shining with excitement.(运用了独立主格结构) 【高分句型2】I realized then that Chocolate wasn’t just a dog I cared for; he was the friend I’d been waiting for, and the thought of leaving him at the shelter each Sunday night made my chest ache.(运用了that引导的宾语从句及省略号that的定语从句) 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
