My parents divorced and I moved to a new town with my father, far from my old family and friends. I was terribly lonely and would cry myself to sleep each night. To ease my sadness, my father purchased an old horse for me at a local auction. I named him Cowboy. Cowboy was undoubtedly the ugliest horse in the world. But I didn’t care. I loved him beyond all reason. I joined a riding club and suffered rude comments and mean snickers about Cowboy’s looks. I never let on about how I felt, but deep inside, my heart was breaking. The other members rode beautiful, registered horses. When Cowboy and I entered the events where the horse is judged on appearance, we were quickly shown the gate. No amount of preparation and love would turn Cowboy into a beauty. My only chance to compete would be in the speed events. I chose the jumping race. One girl named Becky rode a big brown horse in the race events. She always won the blue ribbons. Needless to say, she didn’t feel threatened when I competed against her at the next show. She didn’t need to. I came in next to last. The stinging memory of Becky’s smirks (得意的笑) made me determined to beat her. For the whole next month I woke up early every day and rode Cowboy five miles to the arena (竞技场). We practiced running and jumping for hours in the hot sun and then I would walk Cowboy home totally exhausted. All of our hard work didn’t make me feel confident by the time the show came. I sat at the gate and sweated it out while I watched Becky and her horse charge through the course and finish in first place. My turn finally came. I put on my hat, rubbed Cowboy’s neck and entered the arena. At the signal, we dashed toward the first fence, jumped it without trouble and raced on to the next one. Cowboy then flew over the second, third and fourth fences like a bird and I turned him toward the finish line. As we crossed the line the crowd was shocked into silence Cowboy and I had beaten Becky and her fancy horse by two seconds! I gained much more than a blue ribbon that day. At thirteen, I realized that no matter what the odds, I’d always come out a winner if I wanted something badly enough to work for it. 4. Why did the writer lack confidence in winning? A. He hadn’t done enough practice. B. He felt the audience didn’t like him. C. He was a rider with little experience. D. He thought his horse was not as good as the others. 5. The underlined phrase “shown the gate” (in paragraph 4) most likely means “_________”. A. instructed on how to get into the arena B. removed from the competition early C. taught how to make the horse look attractive D. advised to participate in the timed-speed events 6. What did the writer gain from his experience? A. Life can be unjust at times. B. A positive attitude will bring success. C. Nothing is impossible if one makes enough efforts. D. One should not make judgments based on appearance. 7. The most suitable title for the story is _________. A. A Race to Remember B. A Horse’s Tale C. Neck and Neck D. A Challenging Age C It’s common knowledge that the woman in Leonardo da Vinci’s most famous painting seems to look back at observers, following them with her eyes no matter where they stand in the room. But this common knowledge turns out wrong. A new study finds that the woman in the painting is actually looking out at an angle that’s 15. 4 degrees off to the observer’s right-well outside of the range that people normally believe when they think someone is looking right at them. In other words, said the study author, Horstmann, “She’s not looking at you. “ This is somewhat ironic, because the entire phenomenon of a person’s gaze (凝视) in a photograph or painting seeming to follow the viewer is called the “Mona Lisa effect” . That effect is absolutely real, Horstmann said. If a person is illustrated or photographed looking straight ahead, even people viewing the portrait from an angle will feel they are being looked at. As long as the angle of the person’s gaze is no more than about 5 degrees off to either side, the Mona Lisa effect occurs. This is important for human interaction with on-screen characters. If you want someone off to the right side of a room to feel that a person on-screen is looking at him or her, you don’t cut the gaze of the character to that side-surprisingly, doing so would make an observer feel like the character isn’t looking at anyone in the room at all. Instead, you keep the gaze straight ahead. Horstmann and his co-author were studying this effect for its application in the creation of artificial-intelligence avatars(虚拟头像) when Horstmann took a long look at the “Mona Lisa” and realized she wasn’t looking at him. To make sure it wasn’t just him, the researchers asked 24 people to view images of the “Mona Lisa” on a computer screen. They set a ruler between the viewer and the screen and asked the participants to note which number on the ruler intersected(和……相交) Mona Lisa’s gaze. To calculate the angle of Mona Lisa’s gaze as she looked at the viewer, they moved the ruler farther from or closer to the screen during the study. Consistently, the researchers found, participants judged that the woman in the “Mona Lisa” portrait was not looking straight at them, but slightly off to their right. So why do people repeat the belief that her eyes seem to follow the viewer? Horstmann isn’t sure. It’s possible, he said, that people have the desire to be looked at, so they think the woman is looking straight at them. Or maybe the people who first coined the term “Mona Lisa effect” just thought it was a cool name. 8. It is generally believed that the woman in the painting “Mona Lisa”___________. A. attracts the viewers to look back B. seems mysterious because of her eyes C. fixes her eyes on the back of the viewers D looks at the viewers wherever they stand 9. What gaze range in a painting will cause the Mona Lisa effect? A. B. C. D. 10. The experiment involving 24 people was conducted to______. A. confirm Horstmann’s belief B. create artificial-intelligence avatars C. calculate the angle of Mona Lisa’s gaze D. explain how the Mona Lisa effect can be applied 11. What can we learn from the passage? A. Horstmann thinks it’s cool to coin the term “Mona Lisa effect”. B. The Mona Lisa effect contributes to the creation of artificial intelligence. C Feeling being gazed at by Mona Lisa may be caused by the desire for attention. D. The position of the ruler in the experiment will influence the viewers’ judgement. D Despite the convenience brought by the social network, the issue of cyberbully has become so widespread that many individuals now hesitate to engage in online interactions. By next year, a significant portion of online communication will involve some form of harassment (骚扰). We are finally acknowledging the gravity of this issue by supporting and developing a variety of initiatives, platforms, and strategies aimed at preventing cyberbullies from causing harm. Unfortunately, our efforts might be insufficient and too late. By the time these “solutions” become widely accessible, cyberbullies will have adopted more complex strategies. In the near future, it won’t just be the messages you see on your screen that will be questionable. Soon you will also doubt the authenticity of the profiles you encounter. This is due to the spreading of advanced identity manipulation (操纵) and automation technologies that are becoming increasingly accessible. These advancements are likely to fuel our current struggles with cyberbully. The reason cyberbully is so harmful is not just its frequency but also its personal nature. A decade of social media use has resulted in a situation where cyberbullies can easily access personal details and use them harmfully. Armed with this information, they can carry out targeted campaigns to harassment individuals. For instance, a cyberbully could create a fake profile that appears to be a friend and send messages that seem supportive, tricking victims into revealing personal information or engaging in harmful behavior. Since cyberbullies seek power, vulnerable (易受攻击的) individuals, especially children, will be the most severely affected. Much of online interaction is based on trust and mutual respect. Identity manipulation technologies may erode this foundation gradually. We need to address the vulnerability of our online communities. Social media platforms and users must cooperate to establish methods for confirming and communicating authenticity. This could involve developing a standardized system to authenticate user profiles, indicating their reliability and origins, or transitioning away from text-based communication and towards video-based interactions—using platforms that can be linked to confirmed identities. Trust is hard to build but easy to destroy, and the challenge of maintaining a safe online environment is only going to intensify. 12. What’s the author’s attitude towards our response to cyberbully? A. Panicked. B. Confused. C. Embarrassed. D. Disappointed. 13 What does the underlined word “erode” probably mean in Paragraph 3? A. Damage. B. Strengthen. C. Preserve. D. Restore. 14. What can we infer from the text? A. Honesty is the best policy. B. Technologies can be double-edged. C. There are more solutions than problems. D. Face to face communication is key to trust. 15. Which of the following would be the best title for the text? A. The Unknown Power behind Cyberbully B. How Cyberbully Is Affecting Technology C. Where the Problem of Cyberbully Is Rooted D. The Increasingly Severe Threat of Cyberbully 第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,共10分) 根据短文内容,从短文后的七个选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 An interview is a discussion with someone in which you try to get information from them. ____16____ There are three basic sub-types of interview: structured interviews, unstructured interviews and semi-structured interviews. ___17___ Incidentally, “respondent” and “informant” are words that are sometimes used instead of “interviewee”. A great deal is provided by this personal contact: you are another human being, and interviewees will respond to you, in bodily presence, in an entirely different way from the way that they would have reacted to questionnaires that came through their letterboxes or to emails. ____18____ Most people want to help and give their opinions, and they will usually be energized to help by your physical presence. If you take the trouble to schedule a visit, you can be more or less guaranteed of a response. Most importantly, though, you will be able to relate to interviewees while you are talking to them. ____19____ You will be able to watch their behaviour which will give you important clues about how they feel about a topic. Because of the primacy of the personal contact, your appearance and tone are important—how do you want to be seen? As “one of us”? As a person in authority? As an observer? …Or what? ___20___ However you decide to present yourself, it is good practice of course to try to put the interviewee at ease before the interview begins — to talk about the weather, about your journey, about anything that will break the ice. A. This is a ready-made support for you. B. Its nature varies with the nature of the interviews. C. You will be able to hear and understand what they are saying. D. Your decision should influence the way that you look, sound and behave. E. The information may be facts or opinions or attitudes or any combination of these. F. Each involves the interviewer in fact-to-face contact or telephone contact with another person. G. You will be using these clues to make informed guesses about what the interviewees might really mean. 第三部分 语言运用(共两节,满分30分) 第一节(共15小题;每小题1分,满分15分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后各题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。 Mary would make the drive from Washington. She had helped her dad in his workshop and knew a lot about motors, but her friends didn’t know this. One day, she heard Alex and Jacob talking about their robot, Robbie. They were preparing for a big competition but Robbie wasn’t working properly. Susan was surprised by their courage, as they always seemed unpopular among the boys. She felt bad for them and wanted to help. On the school bus home, Susan sat behind Alex and Jacob, who were still trying to fix their robot. “This is impossible! The legs move before you press the switch and stop after you press the switch!” Alex said, looking at Robbie’s legs, which were not moving right. “The competition is only eight days away!” Jacob looked sad. He thought they were going to lose. “Umm, how did you connect the wires from the switch?” Susan asked quietly over their shoulders. Alex turned and gave her a cautious look. Susan smiled and asked, “Did you connect the NO wire or the NC wire to the motor?” The boys stared at her as if she had just landed from Mars. Susan gently took the robot and pointed out the wire connected to the motor. “Here’s the problem!” She explained that it was the NC wire. It means the circuit (电路) is Normally Closed. She then pulled a loose wire out of the robot and explained that it was the NO wire, which means Normally Open. “If you connect this wire instead, Robbie will walk when you press the switch.” Susan handed the robot back to Alex, who was staring at her with his mouth open. “Change the wires and see,” she said before getting off the bus. Ten minutes later, her phone rang. It was Jacob: “Your idea worked, and we're wondering if you could come over and help improve our Robbie.” Susan smiled. She knew she had made the right choice. 注意: 1. 续写词数应为150个左右; 2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 Paragraph 1. As we crossed the line the crowd was shocked into silence. Cowboy and I had beaten Becky and her fancy horse by two seconds! A Challenging Age 【答案】4. D 5. B 6. C 7. A 【解析】 【导语】本文为一篇记叙文。文章讲述了作者艰难地训练马匹,最后参加比赛获得第一名的故事。告诉我们只要努力,一切皆有可能的道理。 【4题详解】 细节理解题。根据第三段“The other members rode beautiful, registered horses. (其他成员骑着漂亮的有血统的马。)”可知,作者没有信心赢得比赛的是因为他认为自己的马没有别人的好。故选D项。 【5题详解】 词句猜测题。根据第三段“I joined a riding club and suffered rude comments and mean snickers about Cowboy’s looks. (我加入了一个骑马俱乐部,遭受了对Cowboy长相的粗鲁评论和刻薄的嘲笑。)”和第四段“When Cowboy and I entered the events where the horse is judged on appearance, we were quickly shown the gate. (当Cowboy和我走进了那个仅凭外表评价马匹的赛场,我们很快就被 。)”可知,因为作者的马匹品相不佳,得到了对手和观众的轻视,所以show the gate意思是劝退,B项“早点退出比赛”与之意思相近。故选B项。 【6题详解】 推理判断题。根据第十段“At thirteen, I realized that no matter what the odds, I’d always come out a winner if I wanted something badly enough to work for it. (在十三岁的时候,我意识到无论胜算几率有多大,只要我对某件事渴望到愿意为之努力,最终总会成为赢家。)”判断出,作者从这次经历中学习到如果一个人足够努力,一切皆有可能。故选C项。 【7题详解】 主旨大意题。结合全文,文章讲述了作者艰难地训练马匹,最后参加比赛获得第一名的故事,告诉我们只要努力,一切皆有可能的道理,A项“一次难忘的赛马”为短文最佳标题。故选A项。 C It’s common knowledge that the woman in Leonardo da Vinci’s most famous painting seems to look back at observers, following them with her eyes no matter where they stand in the room. A. attracts the viewers to look back B. seems mysterious because of her eyes C. fixes her eyes on the back of the viewers D. looks at the viewers wherever they stand 9. C. Feeling being gazed at by Mona Lisa may be caused by the desire for attention. D. The position of the ruler in the experiment will influence the viewers’ judgement. 【答案】8. D 9. B 10. A 11. It’s common knowledge that the woman in Leonardo da Vinci’s most famous painting seems to look back at observers, following them with her eyes no matter where they stand in the room.众所周知,列奥纳多•达•芬奇(Leonardo da Vinci)最著名的画作中的女人,无论站在房间的哪个角落,似乎娜丽莎总像是在注视着画外人,用她的眼睛跟随他们。可知,人们普遍认为,无论站在哪里,画作《蒙娜丽莎》中的女人都会看着画外人。故选D项。 【9题详解】 细节理解题。根据第二段中As long as the angle of the person’s gaze is no more than about 5 degrees off to either side, the Mona Lisa effect occurs.只要人的视线与两边的夹角不超过5度,就会出现蒙娜丽莎效应。故选B项。 【10题详解】 推理判断题。根据第五段中To make sure it wasn’t just him, the researchers asked 24 people to view images of the “Mona Lisa” on a computer screen.为了确保不仅仅是他,研究人员让24个人在电脑屏幕上观看“蒙娜丽莎”的图像。可知,为了证实霍斯曼的看法,对24个人进行了调查。故选 A项。 【11题详解】 细节理解题题。根据最后一段中It’s possible, he said, that people have the desire to be looked at, so they think the woman is looking straight at them.他说,人们有被注视的欲望是可能的,所以他们认为女人在注视他们。可知,蒙娜丽莎被注视的感觉可能是由于对注意力的渴望引起的。故选C项。 D Despite the convenience brought by the social network, the issue of cyberbully has become so widespread that many individuals now hesitate to engage in online interactions. This could involve developing a standardized system to authenticate user profiles indicating their reliability and origins, or transitioning away from text-based communication and towards video-based interactions—using platforms that can be linked to confirmed identities. Trust is hard to build but easy to destroy, and the challenge of maintaining a safe online environment is only going to intensify. 12. What’s the author’s attitude towards our response to cyberbully? A. Panicked. B. Confused. C. Embarrassed. D. Disappointed. 13. What does the underlined word “erode” probably mean in Paragraph 3? A. Damage. B. Strengthen. C. Preserve. D. Restore. The Increasingly Severe Threat of Cyberbully 【答案】12. D 13. A 14. B 15. A This is a ready-made support for you. B. Its nature varies with the nature of the interviews. C. You will be able to hear and understand what they are saying. D. Your decision should influence the way that you look, sound and behave. E. The information may be facts or opinions or attitudes or any combination of these. 故填a。 【38题详解】 考查定语从句。句意:过去六年里,这位40岁的上海人始终致力于为饮茶增添趣味、复兴古老的点茶技艺,让更多人领略其魅力,他用茶和茶勺,以古画为灵感创作了近200种图案。空处引导非限制性定语从句,先行词是resident,指人,关系词在定语从句中作主语,所以空处需用关系代词who引导定语从句。故填who。 【39题详解】 考查时态和主谓一致。句意同上。根据时间状语Over the past six years可知,空处谓语动词需用现在完成时态:have/has done,主语是单数the 40-year-old Shanghai resident,助动词用has。故填has created。 【40题详解】 考查副词。句意:随后慢慢加入更多热水,同时用茶筅(竹制工具)不断手动搅拌茶汤。空处需用副词constantly作状语修饰动词stirred。故填constantly。 【41题详解】 考查动词不定式。句意:这种方法据信已传播到东亚其他地区,如今抹茶的制作方式中,仍能看到两地(宋代点茶与东亚后续茶艺)技艺与咖啡拉花的相似之处。be believed to do sth.被认为做某事,固定搭配,且“点茶方法传播到东亚其他地区”这一动作发生在“人们认为”之前,需用不定式的完成式。故填to have spread。 【42题详解】 考查名词。句意同上。此处需用名词作主语,similar的名词为similarity“相似之处”,可数名词,此处表示泛指,且没有冠词限定,空处名词需用复数。故填similarities。 【43题详解】 考查介词。句意:尽管拥有传统绘画功底,韩哲明却发现,将古文献中记载的“在茶汤浮沫上创作图案”的理论付诸实践,难度远超预期,不过现在,他已能一次完成一幅点茶拉花作品。“having a background in traditional painting”(有传统绘画背景)与“found that applying the theory...proved quite different”(发现应用理论实际难度大)”之间是转折关系,且空格后是动名词短语,需用介词despite,表示“尽管”,位于句首,首字母需大写。 故填is extended。 第四部分 写作(共两节,满分40分) 第一节(满分15分) 46. 假定你是李华,你校上周举办了题目为“Think Big and Dream Big”演讲比赛,你认为评委对你的打分不公,请你写信给组委会负责老师Mr. Smith反映此情况。内容包括: 1.演讲比赛的情况; 2.期待的解决办法。 注意: 1.写作词数应为80左右; 2.可适当增加细节,以使行文连贯。 Dear Mr. Smith, ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Yours sincerely, Li Hua 【答案】One possible version: Dear Mr. Smith, I am Li Hua from Senior Two, Class 5. I’m writing to respectfully express my concern about the scoring in last week’s “Think Big and Dream Big” speech contest. I prepared thoroughly for weeks, focusing on clear organization, strong arguments, and confident delivery. Many classmates and teachers praised my performance afterward. However, my final score was significantly lower than expected, especially compared to others with less fluent expression or weaker content. While I understand judging involves subjectivity, I believe a fair review of the scores or detailed feedback would help ensure transparency. I truly value this chance and hope for a more balanced evaluation. Thank you for your time and understanding. Yours sincerely, Li Hua 【解析】 【导语】本篇书面表达属于应用文。要求考生以李华的身份,就演讲比赛评分不公写信给组委会负责老师Mr. Smith,向其反映此情况,陈述事实、表达诉求。 【详解】1. 词汇积累 表达:express → convey 比赛:contest → competition 机会:chance → opportunity 期待:hope for → look forward to 2. 句式拓展 同义句转换 原句:While I understand judging involves subjectivity, I believe a fair review of the scores or detailed feedback would help ensure transparency. 拓展句:While I understand judging involves subjectivity, I hold the belief that a fair review of the scores or detailed feedback would help ensure transparency. 【点睛】【高分句型1】I prepared thoroughly for weeks, focusing on clear organization, strong arguments, and confident delivery.(运用了现在分词短语作状语) 【高分句型2】While I understand judging involves subjectivity, I believe a fair review of the scores or detailed feedback would help ensure transparency.(运用while引导的让步状语从句以及省略that的宾语从句作believe的宾语) 第二节(满分25分) 47. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。 Susan had a secret: she loved robots. After dinner, Susan walked cheerfully to Jacob’s house. She was excited to see how she could further help improve Robbie. When she arrived, Alex and Jacob greeted her warmly and eagerly showed her the changes they had made based on her advice. Together, they fine-tuned the robot’s movements, adjusted the sensors, and ensured that everything was working perfectly. Susan’s knowledge and skills were invaluable, and the boys were grateful for her help. As they worked , they chatted and laughed, forming a strong bond over their shared love of robots. Paragraph 2. Finally, the competition day came, and the new team was ready. With Susan standing by their side, Alex and Jacob confidently presented Robbie to the judges. The robot moved smoothly and performed all its tasks with precision. The crowd cheered as Robbie demonstrated its abilities, and the judges were impressed by its design and functionality. When the results were announced, the team was thrilled to learn that they had won first place. They hugged Susan and thanked her profusely for her contribution. Susan felt proud and happy, knowing that her secret love for robots had helped her friends achieve their dreams. 词汇激活 行为类 ①到达:arrive/reach ②展示:present/show ③宣布:announce/declare 情绪类 ①感谢:grateful/thankful ②兴奋:thrilled/excited 【点睛】[高分句型1] She was excited to see how she could further help improve Robbie.(由连接副词how引导的宾语从句) [高分句型2]When she arrived, Alex and Jacob greeted her warmly and eagerly showed her the changes they had made based on her advice. (由when引导的状语从句省略关系词引导的定语从句) [高分句型3]As they worked, they chatted and laughed, forming a strong bond over their shared love of robots.(as引导的时间状语从句) 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
