Over 40 students with low vision study at a school in Gandhinagar,Gujarat. It was
designed by Anand Sonecha, founder of an architecture company.Featuring a bright yellow
entrance door, which stands out against the white walls, the school is decorated with a
variety of sweet-smelling plants everywhere.Inside the classrooms, the walls feel smooth in
contrast to the rough outside of the building. These all help students familiarize themselves
with the area straightforwardly, without any trouble.
The school provides an open space serving as a platform for the visually-challenged
students to play, perform,or celebrate festivals and the students are easy to orient
themselves according to the sound, smell, sight and touch."The idea behind the design was
to make the school more accessible to the students,"Sonecha says."They come from
remote villages and towns in Gujarat, and I am eager to help them."
During the construction,Sonecha used contrasting colors so that students could easily
distinguish between the elements.Blue was used for all classroom doors, yellow for the
entrance gate, black for switch buttons, and yellow and green for the furniture. All these
colors contrasted with the white walls of the school, helping the students locate different
elements.Different areas are of different height and width, which makes the sounds and
noises change according to the echo (produced in these spaces.Furthermore,he
cooperated with fellow landscape architect Lokendra Balasaria to plant more than 1,000
plants of 37 species. These sweet plants have been grown not only to lead the children to
move in the school through smell but also to attract butterflies and birds, and provide shade.
"The structure of the building is designed similarly to any other school building, only
with a few clever elements. My intention was to avoid making it look distinct from other
schools,Sonecha explains."I hope that there are no different schools for such students.
Instead, all these elements should be added to public spaces for them. And my follow-up
efforts may be there..”

With the year's end comes the ritual()of many households and offices:getting
new appointment books, planners or calendars to hang on walls or put on desks. In an age of
smartphones and the Internet, you might think the days of paper calendars are numbered,
but data suggest otherwise. Not only have they survived the digital revolution, but sales of
some kinds of print calendars have increased.
The sales of appointment books and planners grew by 10 percent, and decorative and
other calendars increased by 8 percent, according to NPD Group,a consumer research firm.
Jerome Hoxton, president of Tru Art Advertising Calendars in lowa City, said
traditional calendars remain popular because they combine visual attractiveness with
practical use.Paper and digital calendars can readily coexist."What we found is that it's a
question of‘and',”he said.“It's not a question of‘or'.”
Bertel King Jr.,a technology writer, made the case for paper calendars in a blog post,
noting that he was "flooded with notifications, alerts and messages"."Having to open
another tab, fire up another piece of software,or launch another app to access my calendar
amounts to one more on-screen thing competing for my attention,"he wrote."Suddenly a
paper planner starts to make sense."
It may seem surprising that a print product can thrive(蓬勃发展)in the digital age..But
the continued success of some paper calendars mirrors that of printed books,an industry
that several years ago was facing what seemed like the very real possibility that e-books
would outsell the printed variety.Instead,a few surveys found that most readers still
preferred their reading material printed on paper.
Melissa Ralston,ex-Chief Revenue Officer of Koozie Group, said in an email that
companies have found paper calendars to be an effective advertising vehicle with a mass
market appeal. She said studies have found that 82 percent of clients enjoy getting a calendar
as a free gift and 70 percent plan to do business with the company that provided the calendar.
28.What contributes to the popularity of paper calendars in the digital age?
A.The practicality.
B.The low price.
C.The security.
D.The rich design.
29.What was Bertel's attitude towards paper calendars?
A.He disapproved of it.
B.He was favorable to it.
C.He was tolerant of it.
D.He didn't care about it.
30.Why does the author mention printed books in paragraph 5?
A.To reveal the attractiveness of them.

An emerging area of research in future technology is motor strengthening-using
motorized wearable devices such as exoskeletons (or extra robotic body parts to
advance our motor capabilities beyond current biological limitations. While such devices
could improve the quality of life for healthy individuals who want to enhance their
productivity, the same technologies can also provide new ways for people with disabilities to
interact with their environment.
Dani Clode,a professor at Cambridge University, has developed the Third Thumb(
)an extra robotic thumb aimed at increasing the wearer's range of movement, enhancing
的
their grasping capability and expanding the carrying capacity of the hand.It is worn on the
opposite side of the palm to the biological thumb and controlled by a pressure sensor placed
under each big toe or foot.Pressure from the right toe pulls the Thumb across the hand,
while the pressure applied with the left toe pulls the Thumb up towards the fingers. The
extent of the Thumb's movement is relative to the pressure applied, and releasing pressure
moves it back to its original position.
The team tested the robotic device on a diverse range of participants to ensure new
technologies can work for everyone. In five days, the team tested 596 participants, ranging
in age from 3 to 96 years old and from different backgrounds.Of these, only 4 were unable
to use the Third Thumb, either because it did not fit their hand securely,or because they
were unable to control it with their feet.Almost everyone was able to use the device
straightaway, with only 13 participants unable to perform the task during the first minute
of use.

extension of the body itself. It's crucial that the design stage of wearable technology is as

users.Additionally, they should be easy for people to learn and use quickly."

Several years ago,I experienced daily severe headaches that made me want to bang my
head against a brick wall.I was desperate to find a cure.36
In my hopelessness,my father suggested acupuncture ()a treatment he had
experienced in Hong Kong.It had successfully relieved his lower back pain when other
treatments and medicines had failed. With limited exposure to traditional Chinese medicine,
I decided to give acupuncture a try.
With no particular expectations,I found myself in the office of a middle-aged woman,
surrounded by Chinese herbal medicines. After explaining my issue, she placed 3 fingers on
my wrist to feel my heartbeat.37 Soon, she took out the needles, which made me
somewhat uneasy as such objects typically make me uncomfortable.
38 To deal with my headaches, the treatment began on the back of my hand, far
from my head.As the doctor gently handled the needles,I got the feeling that something
was flowing throughout my entire body.
The doctor then continued to tap and move more needles across my body. The
electricity was turned on,and the doctor left the room.39 Around the 5-minute mark,
the doctor returned and adjusted the electricity level.A moment later, before I knew it,she
turned off the electricity and removed the needles, marking an end to the 20-minute process.
She then gave me some herbal medicines to take for 5 days.
I returned to the doctor for a total of 10 sessions, and each time the same routine was
repeated and the same herbal medicines were given. The true benefits of the acupuncture
treatment became clear:I remained free of headaches for 2 years.40 If you've
experienced similar conditions,I highly recommend trying it.

Zhang Juyue,a 34-year-old from the Qiang ethnic group who has devoted her life to
preserving Qiang embroidery(),56 (feel)that she is racing against time.
The Qiang group is called "the ethnic group on clouds"as they usually live in high
altitudes.Qiang embroidery,a national intangible cultural heritage 57 (pass)down
through generations of Qiang women,is essential for making clothing and 58 important
carrier of the Qiang people's history, culture and customs,as they do not have a written

"The patterns in Qiang embroidery hold many hidden stories. For instance, the'square
flower'mentioned by local women is 59 (skillful)adapted from the bricks of ancient city
walls,60 (symbolize)their memories of wars,Zhang says.
Over the past decade, the Qiang embroidery workshop Zhang founded in her hometown

第二节(满分25分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
I still remember what I felt on a bright Saturday morning in late September,at a five-
kilometer race in Clarkston,Georgia.
It was an unusual morning.About an hour earlier, when we drove into town to
participate in the race,my 11-year-old son noticed a green tree cricket()on my car.It
was friendly,no longer than a fingernail. It jumped onto my son's finger, and walked across
my shirt, and then went back to my son's hand, where it stayed so long that we eventually
gave it a name:Little Friend.
The walk from the car to the registration table was perhaps a quarter of a mile.Little
Friend stayed with my son. Then,we walked back across the railroad tracks and waited for
the race to start.A few minutes before the race,Little Friend either fell or jumped off my
son's hand and landed on the sidewalk.Maybe it wanted to go free. But this was not a good
place for that.Pedestrian()traffic was heavy,so Little Friend was in danger. My son
knelt and reached out his hand.It came back.
The race was about to start, and the tiny green insect was in for a wild ride.My son
would run fast, and the race would be long. The race began.I ran well enough, and felt
excited at the finish line. But that thrill gave way to anxiety when my son didn't show up.
I knew he could run 5 kilometers in about 30 minutes. When I didn't see him at the
35-minute mark,I began to wonder what had gone wrong. And as the 40-minute mark
approached and he still didn't appear,I went out looking for him.Had he got lost?I crossed
the railroad tracks and looked down a long straightaway, hoping to see his face. Finally,
there he was, just ahead of the 45-minute mark.
注意:
(1)续写词数应为150个左右;
(2)请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
Little Friend was riding proudly on one finger of my son's right hand.
Smiling,we walked back to the car with Little Friend.

B.To predict the success of print products.
C.To compare paper calendars with them.
D.To illustrate the survival of paper calendars.

In five days, the team tested 596 participants, ranging
in age from 3 to 96 years old and from different backgrounds.Of these, only 4 were unable
to use the Third Thumb, either because it did not fit their hand securely,or because they
were unable to control it with their feet.Almost everyone was able to use the device
straightaway, with only 13 participants unable to perform the task during the first minute
of use.
如
Dani said,"Motor strengthening is about designing a new relationship with
technology-creating something that extends beyond being merely a tool to becoming an
extension of the body itself. It's crucial that the design stage of wearable technology is as
inclusive as possible. These devices must be available and functional for a wide range of
users.Additionally, they should be easy for people to learn and use quickly."
32.What is the primary purpose of the research on motor strengthening?
A.To develop exoskeletons to replace arms or legs.
B.To make devices to better physical abilities of humans.
C.To decrease the reliance on technology for the disabled.
D.To regulate the use of robotic body parts in daily activity.
33.Which picture can illustrate the Third Thumb?

A.At last,my efforts paid off.
B.I now strongly advocate acupuncture.
C.I was then guided to a room and told to lie down.
D.Despite trying different solutions,nothing worked.
E.My initial experience with acupuncture was quite surprising.
F.Though it may seem scary, the acupuncture cured my back pain.
G.Lying still,I could sense the electricity flowing throughout my body.

(1)续写词数应为150个左右;
(2)请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
Little Friend was riding proudly on one finger of my son's right hand.
