Physical education, or gym class, isn't required for all high school students. In some schools, it isn't offered for some different reasons. But should high school students have physical education? The answer is certainly “yes”. Today many people don't do sports. But as is known to all, doing sports is very important for an adult. Teaching teens the importance of a healthy lifestyle and making fitness plans now can help teens put exercise in the first place as an adult. High school isn't that easy. Many students are under a lot of stress. Stress can be harmful to a student's studies and life. Doing sports can help them deal with stress better, helping them live a happier life at school. The American Heart Association says that 10 million kids and teens suffer from obesity (肥胖症). Teens should get 60 minutes of physical activity per day to control their weight and to help their bones get stronger. The increase in activities that don't get teens to move around, such as video games and computer activities, means many teens don't get their required exercise. Physical education classes act as a public health measure to encourage activity and help teens have healthy weights. Inactivity increases teens' risk of developing many diseases. An active lifestyle offers a good way of protection from these health problems. As much as 75 percent of healthcare spending goes toward treating medical conditions that can be hindered by lifestyle changes, according to the American College of Sports Medicine. According to the President's Council on Fitness, Sports and Nutrition (PCFSN), students who performed five hours of physical activity each week improved their academic (学业的) performance. Students from programs with no physical activity, who used the extra time for classroom study, did not perform better on tests than those who gave up some study time in support of physical education. 1.According to Paragraph 2, what does physical education in high school mean? But the research couldn't rule out that high-impact forms of exercise like running bring on the condition. Osteoarthritis is more common as people get older and is sometimes called a “wear and tear” condition. Arthritic knees often have obvious damage to their cartilage which covers and protects the ends of bones. Earlier studies have found conflicting (矛盾的) results on whether exercise can make arthritis more likely. So Lucy Gates at the University of Southampton in the UK and her colleagues joined together the results of six such studies, which over 5,000 people took part in who firstly had no knee pain or other sign of arthritis. At the beginning, people were asked about how much exercise they did, including playing sports, walking and cycling. They recorded the general time spent exercising each week, and their activities were graded by their metabolic equivalent, or MET (代谢当量) scores, a standard way of dividing activities into different types according to how much they raise a person's metabolic rate. At the end of the studies, which lasted from five to twelve years, people were also asked if they had developed knee pain or arthritis. The probability of developing arthritis wasn't associated with activity levels, either by how much time people spent exercising each week or by their total time and MET scores. “There's more work to be done on telling apart risk and different types of activity,” says Gates. “The next step is to figure out how different weight-bearing activities might change things. We can't say there's no relationship there,” says team member Thomas Perry at the University of Oxford. 5.What is the finding of the large study? A.By studying the cause of pain knees. B.By tracking and recording for a long time. C.By asking people to fill in online questionnaires. There is, however, a more humble exercise that might not be so attractive, but has all the benefits—walking. Certified fitness professional Jolynn Jaekel explains, “What I love about walking is that anyone can do it at any age and any fitness level. Plus it is good for your heart, your head and your wallet.” A recent report detailed the health benefits of walking. The report found that walking regularly to fulfill the 150 minutes of moderate physical exercise every week, recommended by the UK's chief medical officer, could save 37,000 lives each year. Scientists at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory in California found that quick walking reduced the risk of heart disease more effectively than running. They observed participants aged between 18 and 80 over a sixyear period and found that walking reduced the risk of heart disease by 9.3%, while running reduced it by 4.5%. And there is even more good news: 30 minutes of quick walking over five days could help you sleep easily, according to research by Oregon State University. The study by the university showed that walking helped participants sleep better and feel more alert during the day. The sooner you get started, the sooner you'll notice the differences in your mind and body. So, go out for your 30minute walk in a nearby park or green space. 9.What does the underlined word “humble” probably mean in the first paragraph? Everything came to a stop in 2010, however, when Nenad was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease—a progressive disease that affects a person's movement. “I love music,” he said. “When I was diagnosed with Parkinson's in 2010, I didn't know what it was. Five years later, I couldn't even play the guitar.” One day, a friend of Nenad's asked him to play pingpong with him, and Nenad said yes. The effects were immediate and positive: he woke up the next day filled with a “desire to live”, and his physical and mental issues had improved. Encouraged, he kept playing. For months he told everyone around him about how pingpong was helping his Parkinson's, but his praise fell on deaf ears. Finally, he took matters into his own hands and started hosting Ping Pong Parkinson's events at the Westchester Table Tennis Center in Pleasantville, New York. Once the events attracted enough attention, he started an organization called Ping Pong Parkinson (PPP) in March 2017. PPP hopes to encourage people living with Parkinson's to play pingpong for its benefits. In addition to promoting social connectivity, PPP also says that it increases neuroplasticity (神经可塑性) which creates new neural pathways in the brain. Nenad has seen evidence of this with his own eyes many times in the past years. He said that their “facial expression changes from when they arrive until they leave. In addition, some people start walking again.” Nenad has made spreading the word about the power of pingpong his new life's work! He hopes others will take up the sport and see the same improvements he's enjoyed since the first time he picked up a paddle 13.What happened to Nenad in 2015?
