We often see cars running on their own without a human driver in science fiction movies. But in China, this is becoming real, reported China Daily.
Self-driving cars first caught wide attention in the country in 2015. That year, Volvo, a carmaker from Sweden, tested such cars in Beijing. Later, Chinese businesses like Baidu started making self-driving cars, too.
Right now, China is on its way to becoming the world's largest market for self-driving cars. By 2040, China will have 12 million robot taxis, followed by the US with around 7 million, according to China Daily.
However, some people are worried about the safety of the technology. In Wuhan, Hubei province, Baidu's self-driving cars have had some small accidents. Once, one such car stopped in front of a plastic bag and caused a traffic jam. Another time, two cars slowed down to face each other, and did not know what to do next.
These situations might seem funny but can actually be dangerous. If a robot car has a big accident, it can't decide what to do next on its own and has to wait for someone to come and help. Also, it's not clear who should be responsible when something goes wrong - the company that owns the robot car, the person who designed it, or both.
Luckily, in December 2023, the government made a set of new rules to improve the safety of self-driving cars. More rules will come in the future.
41.When did self-driving cars first get wide attention in China?
A. In 2010 B. In 2015 C. In 2023 D. In 2040
42.What does the phrase "self-driving cars" in the second paragraph mean?

B. Cars that can run on their own without a human driver.
C. Cars that only work on science fiction movies.
D. Cars that are made by Swedish companies.
43.What can we infer from the passage about the development of self-driving cars in China?
A. China will have fewer robot taxis than the US by 2040.
B. Chinese businesses have never made self-driving cars.
C. The government is taking action to improve the safety of self-driving cars.
D. Self-driving cars in China have never had any accidents.
44.Which company tested self-driving cars in Beijing in 2015?
A. Baidu B. A Chinese carmaker C. Volvo D. A US car company
45.What is the main idea of the passage?
A. The history of science fiction movies about self-driving cars.
B. The development, problems and safety measures of self-driving cars in China.
C. How to design a safe self-driving car.
D. The differences between self-driving cars and traditional cars.

When I was 5 or 6 years old, I was a mischievous boy. One day, I tried to steal gum (口香糖) from the drugstore when my mom took me shopping. I stood in front of the gum shelf, staring nervously at the gum, waiting for the right moment. After about 30 minutes, I finally made my move, just as my mom was calling me to leave. As we walked away, a store worker walked up to my mom and told her that I had taken a pack of gum, which cost 5 cents back then.
My mom was really angry and insisted that it was impossible because her son was honest, good, and never lied or did anything bad. However, the store worker explained that all the workers had been watching me for half an hour. They guessed that I would steal and that it was challenging for them to wait so long before I actually did it. To solve the matter, my mom searched me, checked my pockets, and found nothing. The man was surprised, and my mom was proud and even scolded (责备) him.
Seeing the man’s face turn red, I felt very sorry. I had to make a choice. As he started to walk away, I took off my cap, reached inside, and offered the pack of gum to him. I said sorry with all my heart. If he was surprised before, he was shocked now, as was my mother, but for a different reason.②
Though I was punished, I never regretted admitting it. It was my self-control that stopped me from becoming a bad person.
46.How much did the pack of gum that the writer tried to steal cost back then?
A. 5 dollars B. 15 cents C. 5 cents D. 10 cents
47.What does the word "mischievous" in the first paragraph mean?
A. Well-behaved and quiet.
B. Naughty and likely to cause trouble.
C. Shy and afraid of strangers.
D. Honest and always telling the truth.
48.Why did the writer feel sorry when he saw the store worker’s face turn red?
A. Because the worker was scolded by his mom for no reason.
B. Because he realized he had lied and made the worker wronged.
C. Because the worker had to wait for him for half an hour.
D. Because his mom didn’t believe him at first.
49.Where did the writer hide the pack of gum?
A. In his jacket pocket
B. Inside his cap
C. In his schoolbag
D. In his mom’s shopping bag
50.What is the main idea of the passage?
A. The writer’s happy childhood memory of shopping with his mom.
B. How the writer’s mom taught him to be honest.
C. The writer’s experience of stealing gum and finally admitting his mistake, and what he learned from it.
D. A funny story about a misunderstanding between the writer’s mom and a store worker

How would you feel if you met a wild boar (野猪) in the city?
On Oct 27, a wild boar was hit by a train in Nanjing, Jiangsu. __________51__________
According to the National Forestry and Grassland Administration (国家林业和草原局), there are about 2 million wild boars in China. They can live well in nature and have many babies, said Professor Xie Yi from Beijing Forestry University. __________52__________ They come down from the hills to look for food in spring and autumn, so people are seeing them more often now.
__________53__________ However, if people keep feeding them, the boars might lose their fear of humans and come closer for food. This could be dangerous.
Without many of their predators (捕食者) in nature, hunting is the main way to control the boars’ numbers. __________54__________ So some provinces like Shaanxi have brought in hunters to help. But experts say hunting is not the way to fix the problem in the long term. We need to bring back the boars’ natural predators and make sure they have enough living spaces.
In February, the National Forestry and Grassland Administration introduced a plan to make rules to help stop and control problems caused by wild animals. __________55__________
A. Wild boars usually choose to avoid humans.
B. The rules will also support people who are hurt by wild animals.
C. When a worker checked for problems, another train came and killed him.
D. Because of this, wild boars are moving to more areas.
E. Since last year, boars are not protected animals anymore.

In a study, scientists watched 22 dolphins. When dolphins __56__ (play), they often showed an __57__ (express) with their mouth open. It looked very much like __58__ smile. The scientists found that dolphins “smiled” a lot when their friends saw __59__ (they). Their friends also smiled back about one-third of the time. Scientists think dolphins do this __60__ (show) they are having fun.
The study also __61__ (find) that whenever dolphins smiled, they were almost always playing with other dolphins – not with people __62__ alone. They did not smile __63__ they were fighting or swimming __64__ (calm).
Heather Hill, a professor at St. Mary’s University in the US, feels a bit differently about it. She doesn’t think we can call it a “smile” like those of humans. To her, the open mouths of dolphins mean something more like “Hey, we’re __65__ the same page”, she explained to CNN.

A. technician 技术员;B. doctor 医生;C. traveler 旅行家;D. engineer 工程师。
A. fitness 健康;B. reading 阅读;C. invention 发明;D. travel 旅行。根据后文 “his dream of traveling” 可知,后文明确提到他的 “旅行梦想”,此处是前文对 “旅行兴趣” 的铺垫,“interest in travel” 与后文 “travel dream” 语义一致。故选 D。
A. take care 小心(不及物,需搭配 of 接宾语);B. take care of 照顾;C. take away 拿走;D. take part in 参加。根据 “his father died” 可知,父亲去世后,徐霞客需要 “照顾” 母亲,“take care of” 后可接宾语 “his mother”,符合 “照料家人” 的语境;“take care” 无宾语,无法使用。故选 B。
A. gave to 给予;B. gave up 放弃;C. gave in 屈服(后接 to);D. gave back 归还。
A. family 家人;B. friends 朋友;C. father 父亲;D. classmates 同学。 故选 A。
A. set up 建立;B. set off 出发;C. set down 写下;D. set in 开始(尤指坏天气)。根据 “for the first time at the age of 22” 及 “traveling” 可知,此处指他 22 岁时首次 “出发” 旅行,“set off” 符合 “开启旅程” 的语义。故选 B。
A. jobs 工作;B. work 工作(不可数);C. trips 旅行;D. homes 家。根据前文 “his dream of traveling”“set off” 可知,此处指他的 “旅行” 经历,“four major trips”(四次主要旅行)符合 “旅行主题” 的表述;“jobs”“work” 与 “旅行” 无关,“homes” 不符合语境。故选 C。
A. In order to 为了(后接动词原形,表目的);B. As a result 结果(表因果);C. 故选 A。
A. by bike 骑自行车;B. on foot 步行;C. by boat 乘船;D. by bus 乘公交车(明代无公交车,不符合历史背景)。
A. books 书;B. food 食物;C. stress 压力;D. luggage 行李。
A. quitting 放弃;B. recording 记录;C. promoting 促进;D. reducing 减少。根据 “Although he experienced all sorts of difficulties”(表让步)及前文 “never gave up his dream” 可知,此处指他面对困难仍不 “放弃”,“quitting” 与 “gave up” 语义相近,符合 “坚持不放弃” 的主题。故选 A。
A. took 花费(常用 it takes sb. time to do sth. 结构);B. paid 支付(常与 for 搭配);C. spent 花费(常用 sb. spends time doing sth. 根据 “over 30 years traveling”(sb.
A. quality 质量;B. advice 建议;C. tickets 票;D. experiences 经历。根据 “recording... and discoveries”(记录……
A. finally 最终;B. easily 容易地;C. lately 最近;D. physically 身体上。 故选 A。
A. national 国家的;B. active 积极的;C. well-known 著名的;D. terrible 糟糕的。根据 “its value in Chinese history”(在中国历史上的价值)可知,有价值的著作应是 “著名的”,“well-known for” 是固定搭配,意为 “因……

A. Cars that need a human driver to control.

根据第一段 “a store worker walked up to my mom and told her that I had taken a pack of gum, which cost 5 cents back then.(一位店员走到妈妈身边,告诉她我拿了一包口香糖,那时候这包口香糖售价 5 美分。)”
根据第一段 “One day, I tried to steal gum (口香糖) from the drugstore when my mom took me shopping.(有一天,妈妈带我去杂货店购物时,我试图偷口香糖。)”
根据第二段 “my mom was proud and even scolded (责备) him(妈妈很自豪,甚至责备了店员)” 以及第三段 “Seeing the man’s face turn red, I felt very sorry... I took off my cap, reached inside, and offered the pack of gum to him.(看到店员的脸变红了,我感到很抱歉……
根据第三段 “As he started to walk away, I took off my cap, reached inside, and offered the pack of gum to him.(当店员准备走开时,我摘下帽子,伸手从里面拿出那包口香糖递给了他。)”

On Oct 27, a wild boar was hit by a train in Nanjing, Jiangsu. __________51__________
According to the National Forestry and Grassland Administration (国家林业和草原局), there are about 2 million wild boars in China.

52.根据空前 “They can live well in nature and have many babies”(它们在自然环境中生存状况良好,且繁殖能力强)和空后 “They come down from the hills to look for food... so people are seeing them more often”(它们春秋季下山觅食…… D“Because of this, wild boars are moving to more areas”(正因为如此,野猪正在向更多区域迁徙),用 “because of this” 衔接前文 “生存与繁殖优势”,引出后文 “下山觅食、被人常见” 的结果,符合逻辑。故选 D。
53.根据空后 “However, if people keep feeding them, the boars might lose their fear of humans and come closer for food”(然而,如果人们持续投喂,野猪可能会失去对人类的畏惧,为觅食主动靠近人类)可知,“however” 表转折,此处应先说明野猪原本对人类的态度 —— 与 “主动靠近” 相反的 “躲避”。 故选 A。
54.根据空前 “Without many of their predators... hunting is the main way to control the boars’ numbers”(自然界中野猪的捕食者不多,捕猎是控制其数量的主要方式)和空后 “So some provinces like Shaanxi have brought in hunters to help”(因此陕西等省份引入猎人协助捕猎)可知,此处应说明 “允许捕猎” 的前提 —— 野猪不再受保护。选项 E“Since last year, boars are not protected animals anymore”(自去年起,野猪已不再是保护动物),既解释了 “捕猎合法” 的原因,又为后文 “引入猎人” 提供合理依据,符合逻辑。故选 E。
55.根据空前 “introduced a plan to make rules to help stop and control problems caused by wild animals”(出台计划制定相关规定,以帮助防范和管控野生动物引发的问题)可知,此处应补充该 “规定” 的其他作用,让计划内容更全面。选项 B “The rules will also support people who are hurt by wild animals”(这些规定还将为被野生动物伤害的人们提供援助),用 “also” 承接前文 “管控野生动物问题” 的核心目的,补充规定的附加作用,符合语境。故选 B。

56. played 57. expression 58. a 59. them 60. to show 61. found 62. or 63. when 64. calmly 65. on
故填 a。
故填 them。
故填 to show。
故填 found。
故填 or。
故填 when。
“on the same page” 是固定短语,意为 “意见一致;看法相同”,符合教授对海豚表情含义的解读。故填 on。
