The Miao people have loved birds for generations. That’s why people see delicate (精致的) birdcages hanging in front of many households in the Miao villages. “The Miao people love birds so much that they even bring their birds with them while working hard in the fields,” said Wang Qiu, a 35-year-old inheritor (传承者) of the Kala birdcage-making craft. “Even if they slip (滑倒), the birdcages they carry carefully remain fine.” Located in the northeast of Danzhai county, Guizhou province, Kala village is famous for its time-honored cage-weaving craft, which dates back over 400 years. In 2009, it was listed as a provincial intangible cultural heritage (非物质文化遗产) of Guizhou. “Kala birdcages are famous for their remarkable firmness,” explained Wang. “Each cage is carefully crafted from the sturdy moso bamboo (结实的楠竹) and the flexible water bamboo (柔韧的水竹). The former provides hardness, while the latter contributes resilience (韧性), resulting in a cage that is durable.” After marrying her husband in Kala village, Wang was attracted by the excellent cage-weaving craft there. Wang Yuhe, her father-in-law and a Kala birdcage-making inheritor, taught her everything he knew about the craft. As a member of the younger generation, Wang Qiu injects vigor (活力) into the centuries-old craft. “With the growing awareness of wildlife protection, the population of people who hunt and raise birds has been decreasing, so has been the need for birdcages,” said Wang. “So, I decided to combine closely art with everyday life, meeting the needs of a broader range of consumers.” Wang designs and makes everyday items, from bookshelves and lampshades (灯罩) to graceful earrings in the shape of Kala birdcages. A book dives into the rich culture and history of a Kenyan tribe Facing Mount Kenya is a book by Jomo Kenyatta, who later became the first president of Kenya. He writes about the Gikuyu tribe (部落), which is one of the many tribes in the country. This book gives a detailed picture of what life was like for the Gikuyu people before British colonizers (殖民者) came to Kenya. It shows readers what the customs, beliefs, and daily life were like for the Gikuyu back then. What makes this book great is its true Kenyan voice — telling a Kenyan story through Kenyan eyes. As a member of the Gikuyu tribe myself, the book evokes (唤起) a strong sense of connection to a heritage (遗产) which I feel I’ve lost ties to over time. Our Gikuyu history is usually told in stories from one person to another, making it challenging to preserve our history and culture. This book puts our history down on paper, helping to keep it accurate and strong for future generations. Various traditions are discussed in the book, and one such custom is the Gikuyu marriage process which still exists in the modern day. It begins with a boy expressing interest in a girl and offering beer to the girl’s family. The engagement is formally recognized by holding a feast (盛宴). Finally, a ceremony featuring the slaughtering (屠宰) of sheep confirms the marriage. The process shows the social significance of marriage in Gikuyu society. Another custom was how to tell apart a witch (女巫) from a medicine man. It asked the person to taste the powders (粉末) they used. If they hesitated (犹豫), it was seen as a sign of guilt. The idea is to find out if the person uses their knowledge for good, like a medicine man, or for harmful purposes, like a witch. For anyone who wants to really understand the people of Kenya, this book is a must-read.  Kenyatta doesn’t just list facts: He paints a complete picture of the Gikuyu’s tribal origins, economic life, industries, and systems of education, among other aspects. This is a helpful and interesting book for learning about Gikuyu’s experiences and culture during a time of major change. Vicky Wangechi, 24, is a Kenyan. She is studying at Beijing Jiaotong University for a Master’s degree in Civil Engineering. During her time in China, she has fallen in love with its diverse (多元的) and rich culture. Q&A about kenya Kenya was once colonized. How did it gain independence? Yan Zihan, 13, Shenzhen, Guangdong Kenya’s fight for independence was marked by the Mau Mau Uprising, where Kenyans, mainly from the Gikuyu community, used guerrilla warfare (游击战) against British rule.  At the same time, political movements were growing, with leaders like Jomo Kenyatta forming groups to peacefully demand rights and self-rule. These efforts led to discussions with the British after World War II weakened Britain’s hold on colonies. The talks laid the groundwork for Kenya’s self-governance (自治). In the early 1960s, Kenya moved towards independence, holding elections (选举) and forming its own government, with the Kenya African National Union, led by Kenyatta, playing a major role. International support, especially from other African countries, also aided Kenya’s path to freedom. Finally, on Dec 12, 1963, Kenya achieved independence, becoming a republic in 1964 with Kenyatta as its first president. 1.What do we know about the book Facing Mount Kenya? A.It was written by a former president of Kenya. B.It’s about how Kenyans fought British colonizers. C.It focuses on the conflict between Kenyan tribes. D.It covers the entire ancient history of Kenya. 2.What does the author of the article think of the book? A.Inaccurate. B.Relatable. C.Up-to-date. D.Straightforward. 3.What is the significance of the book, according to the article? A.It familiarizes the world with Kenyan customs. B.It shows the intelligence of Kenyan people. C.It helps protect traditional Kenyan culture. D.It has inspired generations of young Kenyans. In a time of mass extinction and climate change, we are also living in a time of rapid language loss. (must have done sth. 1.the famous pop star was surrounded by his fans 【详解】考查动词短语和时态。 故填the famous pop star was surrounded by his fans。 2.the future belongs to the well-educated 【详解】考查动词短语、时态和名词。 3.what these different names mean 【详解】考查宾语从句。 故填what these different names mean。 4.make a continuous effort well-rounded individual 【详解】考查固定短语,不定式,形容词和名词。对比中英文句子可知,第一空意为“不断努力”,第二空意为“全面发展的人”,“不断努力”是固定短语make a continuous effort, need to do sth.是固定短语,意为“需要做某事”,因此make用原形,因此第一空是make a continuous effort。“全面发展的”是well-rounded,“人”也就是“个人”,是individual,空前有a,individual用单数,因此第二空是well-rounded individual。故填①make a continuous effort;②well-rounded individual。 5.must have gotten lost 【详解】考查情态动词的用法和短语。 故填must have gotten lost。 故填a well-rounded individual。 8.must have enjoyed himself/must have had a good time 【详解】考查情态动词、固定短语。本句描述对过去事情的推测,用must have done形式,表示“玩得很开心”用have a good time或enjoy oneself,根据主语he可知,此处用反身代词himself“他自己”。故填must have enjoyed himself/must have had a good time。 Museums are bridges of history that connect times and places, preserving historical treasures and serving 1 connections between the past, present, and future. They’ve gained 2 (popular) as “museum tourism” rises, meeting different needs of a diverse audience through innovative approaches and digital technology. For example, the Silk Road Online Museum 3 (bring) together digital collections, exhibitions and knowledge since its first show in 2021, enhancing global cultural exchange. 4 (advance) technologies like naked-eye 3D and XR glasses are becoming central to interactive experiences. In July, the Shandong Art Museum held the “Infinite Sea” exhibition, 5 offered an immersive (沉浸的) experience through AI-generated content. Also, in April, the Prado Museum’s “Ages of Splendor” exhibition, which opened in Shanghai, 6 (design) to promote cultural exchanges between China and Spain. These international exhibitions are not only visual feasts but also 7 (emotion) journeys. Personalized travel, especially among 8 young, prioritizes the purpose of travel, with a growing trend towards museum explorations. Museums are also adapting to modern trends, like the Datong Museum’s “Buddha companion” series, combining history with modern arts. In the digital age, it is more important than ever to preserve our cultural traditions. Technology has made it easier to share information and connect with people from all over the world. 2 As digital platforms become more popular in our daily lives, there is a risk that traditional practices and customs may be lost or forgotten. However, technology can also be a powerful tool for preserving our cultural traditions. 3 Social media platforms and online communities can also be used to promote cultural events, celebrations, and practices, reaching a wider audience and encouraging participation. 4 For example, the lack of awareness and support for cultural preservation efforts poses a significant challenge to preserving our traditions. Many cultural practices are at risk of extinction. It is necessary for governments, organizations, and individuals to work together to protect and promote our cultural heritage. Preserving our cultural traditions has numerous benefits. By maintaining our cultural heritage, we can develop a sense of identity, belonging, and pride in our roots. Furthermore, preserving our cultural traditions can have a positive impact on our mental health and well-being. 5 A.It plays a key role in shaping who we are. B.Our cultural heritage is a reflection of our identity. C.Cultural practices reduce stress and improve quality of life. D.Preserving cultural traditions is crucial but challenging. E.They provide us with a sense of belonging and pride in our heritage. F.But it has also posed challenges to preserving our cultural heritage. G.Online museums and virtual exhibitions can globally document and share cultural heritage. 1.上文“Our cultural traditions are a vital part of our identity and help us connect with our roots.(我们的文化传统是我们身份的重要组成部分,帮助我们与根源建立联系)”强调了文化传统对身份认同和连接根源的作用。选项E“They provide us with a sense of belonging and pride in our heritage.(它们为我们提供了一种归属感和对我们文化遗产的自豪感)”,进一步说明了文化传统能带来归属感和自豪感。故选E。 2.上文“Technology has made it easier to share information and connect with people from all over the world.(技术使分享信息和与世界各地的人建立联系变得更加容易)”说明技术带来的积极影响。选项F“But it has also posed challenges to preserving our cultural heritage.(但它也给保护我们的文化遗产带来了挑战)”,通过but进行转折,引出技术对文化遗产保护带来的负面情况,与上文形成对比。故选F。 3.上文“However, technology can also be a powerful tool for preserving our cultural traditions.(然而,技术也可以成为保护我们文化传统的有力工具)”强调技术在保护文化传统方面的积极作用。 4.下文“For example, the lack of awareness and support for cultural preservation efforts poses a significant challenge to preserving our traditions. Many cultural practices are at risk of extinction.(例如,对文化保护工作缺乏认识和支持对保护我们的传统构成了重大挑战。许多文化习俗面临灭绝的危险)”通过举例说明保护文化传统面临着挑战。同时,上文一直在强调保护文化传统的重要性。选项D“Preserving cultural traditions is crucial but challenging.(保护文化传统至关重要但充满挑战)”,既总结了上文保护文化传统的重要性,又引出了下文所阐述的挑战,起到了承上启下的作用。故选D。 5.上文“Furthermore, preserving our cultural traditions can have a positive impact on our mental health and well - being.(此外,保护我们的文化传统可以对我们的心理健康和幸福产生积极影响)”说明保护文化传统对心理健康和幸福有好处。 高考听力中的习语不会过于生僻,多为日常对话中常用的表达,如: 表积极:on top of the world(非常开心)、a piece of cake(小菜一碟) 表消极:under the weather(身体不适)、hit the wall(遇到阻碍) 表行动:break a leg(祝你好运)、call it a day(结束工作) 2. $
