Explore Nature on These Amazing trails
Numerous wonderful trails will let people connect with the natural world. Below are four of the greatest long-distance walks you can find anywhere. Walking boots and waterproof coats are at the ready.
Lares and Royal Inca Trail, Peru
The Inca Trail to Macchu Picchu is unquestionably one of South America’s greatest trails. Lares and Royal Inca Trail, a guided three-day trip in the Lares region, follows an ancient Inca path through Andean forests, up the Huchayccasa pass and through the village of Huacahuasi, with the chance to catch sight of towering Mount Veronica.
Mount Toubkal, Morocco
Rising to 4,167 meters, a hike to North Africa’s highest peak is a challenging, but rewarding task. The four-day path upwards rises from the village of Imlil, passing over a dry river bed before rising sharply through the shrine at Sidi Chamharouch and on towards a large mountain hut.
The Dingle Way, Ireland
Ireland’s Dingle Way trail can be completed in around eight days. Starting in the town of Tralee, the clockwise path follows narrow roads, taking in the wide sweep of sand at Inch strand, passing along the clifftops outside Dingle town and heading around the edge of Mount Brandon, the highest peak on the Dingle Peninsula.
Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, Uganda
Home to a large amount of the world’s remaining mountain gorillas, three-day treks through the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest provide visitors with the chance to get close to habituated gorillas. Wildlife walks don’t come more fascinating than a trip into Uganda’s Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, where you can get up close and personal with the area’s mountain gorilla population.
1. What is special about Lares and Royal Inca Trail?
A. There is a guide leading the way. B. Hikers can admire an ancient tower.
C. The route is far away from Huchayccasa. D. It is one of South Africa’s the greatest walks.
2. Which trail requires more than a week to experience?
A. Mount Toubkal, Morocco. B. The Dingle Way, Ireland.
C. Lares and Royal Inca Trail, Peru. D. Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, Uganda.

Bethany Hamilton has become a source of inspiration for millions through her story of faith, determination and hope. Her amazing story has now become a famous movie called Soul Surfer.
On October 31, 2003, thirteen-year-old Bethany was attacked by a 15-foot tiger shark while surfing off the coast of Hawaii. “It came out of nowhere,” Bethany said. “There was no warning at all. There was not even the smallest sign of danger. The waves were small, and I was just relaxing on my board with my left arm hanging in the cool water. I thought the surf would get better soon.” Immediately, she felt a lot of pressure and some very fast pulls. Then she watched in shock as the water around her turned bright red. “Somehow, I stayed calm. My left arm was gone along with a huge piece of my surfboard.” said Bethany. Her friends had to help her get to the beach, which took twenty minutes of paddling. After losing more than 40 percent of her blood and going through several operations, Bethany began to recover thanks to her incredibly strong will.
In January 2004, Bethany returned to surf competition. She had no intention of stopping and continued to take part in competitions. At first, she used a special board that was longer and slightly thicker than normal. It had a handle for her right arm, making it easier to paddle. She also learned to kick more to make up for losing her left arm.
Just over a year after the shark attack, she won first place and earned her first national title. Now she competes with the world’s best surfers and travels around the globe, inspiring people everywhere with her courage and determination.

Even in areas far from human activities, insect populations are declining rapidly, with climate change likely being the main cause. This finding comes from a new study at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
The study, published in Ecology journal, measured flying insect numbers over 15 summers between 2004 and 2024 in a remote mountain meadow in Colorado. The researchers observed various insects, including common flies and many other winged species. They found that insect populations dropped by 6.6% each year on average, resulting in a 72.4% decrease over the 20-year period.
“There have been many reports of insect declines worldwide recently, but mostly in areas heavily affected by humans,” said Keith Sockman, the study’s author and biology professor at UNC. A 2019 analysis showed that over 40% of insect species face extinction due to habitat loss from farming, pesticide use, and climate change. However, Sockman’s research shows a great decline in a pristine, remote area with minimal human impact.
The research revealed a delay between summer temperatures and their effects on insect numbers the following year. This led Sockman to conclude that warming summers were the primary factor causing population drops. “There’s very little human development nearby, so climate change seems to be the only explanation for this decline,” he said. Weather data from a nearby station covering 40 years supported his findings.
Jonathan Larson, an insect expert at the University of Kentucky who wasn’t involved in the study, agreed with Sockman’s conclusions. “Usually we focus on habitat destruction, but here we’re dealing with an isolated location.” Larson explained. “This makes me think humans affect everything, even distant places.”
While some people might welcome fewer insects, Larson emphasized their crucial role in nature. “Insects are foundational organisms to our planet,” he said. Their decline could affect the entire food chain, from birds and frogs that eat insects to larger animals and humans who depend on creatures that consume bugs. Larson hopes people will take these findings seriously, recognizing that insects play a vital role in supporting all life on Earth.
12. How did the researchers study the insect populations?
A. By doing lab experiments. B. By analysing the collected data.
C. By building a model online. D. By referring to previous findings.
13. What does the underlined word “pristine” in paragraph 3 probably mean?
A. Untouched. B. Unfinished. C. Farmed. D. Developed.
14. What can we learn from Sockman’s conclusion about the insect decline?
A. Human activities directly caused the drop. B. Warming summers were the main reason.
C. Weather data showed immediate effects. D. Remote areas escaped the impact of climate change.
15. What is Larson’s attitude towards the insect decline?
A. Indifferent. B. Skeptical. C. Concerned. D. Positive.
【答案】12. B 13. A 14. B 15. C

Would you like to try something new in life? Embracing change is like trying a new flavor of ice cream. At first, you might be doubtful. But once you take that first brave taste, what once seemed uncertain can unfold into a sweet and unexpected joy. The real wonder lies in shifting your mindset — letting go of the familiar, opening your heart to possibility, and daring to dance with the unknown. ____16____.
To start with, take a good look at your life and spot the areas that could use a change. Is there a dream job you are too scared to go after? ____17____? Or a conversation you’ve been avoiding? Whatever it is, admit the fear, but don’t let it keep you from moving forward.
Take baby steps towards change when you’ve set up your goal. Break it into small tasks and overcome them one by one. Remember, change is like a slow-cooked meal. ____18____. Make a one-year self-improvement plan and celebrate every tiny victory as you go. Each step forward, no matter how small, deserves recognition.
____19____. Be willing to gently challenge the beliefs that have shaped you. Expand your horizons through books, conversations, or experiences that stretch your perspective. Just as Steve Jobs puts it, “Stay hungry, stay foolish”. It’s in these moments of constant learning that you’ll uncover your hidden superpower.
Treat yourself with kindness through it all. When obstacles arise, see them not as failures but as invitations to learn and adapt. Every challenge is part of your personal evolution — a lesson wrapped in experience.
So here’s what change truly is: a faithful companion on the journey to a life of purpose and joy. Change is the key to your own kingdom. ____20____!

47. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
The school picnic was scheduled for Sunday. On Saturday morning, I decided to approach my mother with my questions. As soon as she took the last bite of her toast, I could no longer hold back my curiosity. “Mum,” I asked, “where is Italy?” Adjusting her glasses, she looked at me with her head to one side. “Italy is a European country quite far from here, my dear. Why do you ask?” she replied. I explained, “That’s where Mike, the new boy in our class, is from.”
She nodded and invited me to fetch the geography book together. It was a large hardcover book, which my mother always stored on the bottom shelf of our bookcase. I watched as she skillfully turned to the index (索引) and then to a page near the middle. “Here we are,” she said, turning the book around so I could see the map clearly. I looked at the “ITALY” printed in bold capitals. We read the introduction to the country, gaining a deeper understanding of Italy — not only its location and history, but also its famous cultural landmarks and cooking delights. For instance, we knew how pizza came from Naples and how Italy is also the homeland of pasta (意大利面).
I said to my mum, “Mike’s parents work downtown and are always extremely busy. He rarely eats on time, not to mention enjoying a home-cooked meal. I really hope we can make his first picnic with us a happy and memorable one.” I stopped, watching her expression carefully. I was worried she might think my idea silly or a waste of money. However, she didn’t. Instead, she replied delightedly, “What a wonderful idea! Since we were just looking at Italy in the map, why not make some classic Italian dishes for him, like pizza or pasta? Go get ready, and we’ll go for a big shop!”
注意:
1. 续写词数应为150左右;

____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】
I got ready quickly and went to the supermarket with Mum. We bought all the necessary ingredients: flour, tomatoes, fresh cheese for the pizza, and different kinds of pasta. Back home, Mum showed me how to make the pizza base and spread the tomato sauce while she cooked the pasta. The kitchen was filled with a wonderful smell as the pizza baked in the oven. When everything was ready, we carefully packed the food into boxes. Looking at the delicious Italian dishes we had made, I felt so excited and couldn’t wait for the picnic the next day.
On Sunday morning, I arrived at the picnic spot with the food and saw Mike immediately. I walked over and invited Mike to have fun together. He looked a little shy and uncertain at first, but when I opened the box and showed him the pizza and pasta, his eyes lit up with surprise and happiness. We sat together, eating and talking happily about our favorite school activities and summer plans. Mike tried the food and smiled, saying it tasted just like what his grandmother used to make. He was truly touched by my action. In the end, we all enjoyed the meal, and it turned out to be a perfect, happy day.

She also learned to kick more to make up for losing her left arm.

At the 2025 China Culture and Tourism Industries Expo ceremony in Wuhan, robots took center stage, creating a fascinating mix of technology and tradition. Humanoid robots dressed in traditional costumes performed dances with human performers, while robotic baristas (咖啡师) made coffee and robotic dogs walked around, creating an amazing futuristic atmosphere.
The expo, hosted by China’s Ministry of Culture and Tourism from September 12-15, attracted over 225,000 visitors. More than 2,000 domestic exhibitors participated. Half of the visitors came from outside Wuhan, and hotel bookings in the city increased by 43.5 percent during the event.
The business results were impressive. Cultural and tourism industry deals worth 810 million yuan were signed, while investment projects totaling 23.28 billion yuan were secured. The trade of cultural products reached 170 million yuan, showing the strong commercial success of the event.
Robotics was the star attraction. According to Ren Yutong from the Guangdong Robotics Association, robots are playing important roles in stage shows, exhibitions and theme parks. They can adapt their interactions to different situations, giving tourists different experiences. Robots could also solve staff shortages in scenic areas by doing translation services and answering visitor questions. Virtual reality technology offered new ways to explore destinations. Wearing special headsets, visitors could experience rowing on Tianjin’s Haihe River or walking on Wudang Mountain without actually traveling there.
Beyond technology, the expo featured colorful performances, traditional craft workshops, regional food tastings, and cultural product sales. The most popular item was a refrigerator magnet shaped like a phoenix crown (凤冠) from the National Museum of China’s collection. According to museum official Liao Fei, this success reflects the public’s growing interest in museums and traditional culture.
The expo also stressed China’s developing low-altitude economy, with companies displaying new electric aircraft for tourism purposes. The event successfully demonstrated how technology and traditional culture can work together to create exciting new tourism experiences.
8 What can we know about the expo’s opening ceremony?
A. It focused on human’s dances. B. Robotic baristas walked dogs.

B. Skeptical. C. Concerned. D. Positive.

1. 续写词数应为150左右;
