第二节:书面表达(满分25分)
In recent years, short-video platforms have witnessed explosive growth, with millions of people, especially young students, spending hours scrolling through various short videos every day.
Short videos bring both benefits and drawbacks. On the one hand, they serve as a convenient way to obtain information. People can learn about global news, acquire practical skills like cooking and painting, and even broaden their horizons through educational content in just a few minutes. On the other hand, the over-reliance on short videos has negative effects. Some students get addicted to them, wasting a lot of precious study time and thus affecting their academic performance.
From my perspective, short videos themselves are not good or bad; it all depends on how we use them. We should treat short videos rationally. Let’s make short videos a helpful tool in our life rather than a time-waster.

It was a terribly rainy wet winter day. While I was walking from the library after getting my university applications (申请) for next year at the end of my lunch break, a man was walking towards me with two huge boxes of brochures.
I thought, “What on earth is that man trying to do? Carry all those things?” Then all of a sudden he dropped them all! It was a terrible mess with hundreds of brochures all over the path in front of me! “Oh, no,” I thought. The man sat down and started trying to pick all of the brochures up. I couldn’t believe how many people walked on by without even caring at all.
I thought, “I’m not going to be one of those people who don’t care about this man, I’m going to help him.” So, even though it was the end of my lunch break from work and I would be late if I stopped to help him, I didn’t mind. If I explained what happened, I was sure my boss wouldn’t mind too much. So, I helped him pick them all up. Then I asked if he would like a hand in carrying a box to where he went. He said yes gratefully.
I carried one of the heavy boxes. The box I had to carry was very heavy-as I’m quite a petite (娇小的) girl-but I didn’t complain. I just helped him with a big smile across my face. We got there and he thanked me very much for helping him out. He also gave me one of these lovely brochures about all the walks in and around the Bay of Plenty.
What is a better way to spend my lunchtime than helping someone? Luckily, I wasn’t that late back to work, so nobody minded at all!

Hundreds of people die at sea every year due to ship and airplane accidents. Emergency teams have little time to rescue those in the water because the probability of finding a person alive falls dramatically after six hours. Beyond tides and challenging weather conditions, unsteady coastal currents often make search and rescue operations extremely difficult.
New insight into coastal flows gained by an international research team led by Geroge Haller, Professor of Nonlinear Dynamics at ETH Zurich, promises to enhance the search and rescue techniques currently in use. Using tools from dynamical systems theory and ocean data, the team has developed an algorithm to predict where objects and people floating in water will go. “Our work has a clear potential to save lives,” says Mattia Serra, the first author of a study recently published in Nature Communications.
In today’s rescue operation at sea, complicated models of ocean dynamics and weather forecasting are used to predict the path of floating objects. For fast-changing coastal waters, however, such predictions are often inaccurate due to uncertain boundaries and missing data. As a result, a search may be launched in the wrong location, causing a loss of precious time.
Haller’s research team obtained mathematical results predicting that objects floating on the ocean’s surface should gather along a few special curves (曲线) which they call Transient Attracting Profiles (TRAPs). These curves can’t be seen with our eyes but can be tracked from instant ocean surface current data using recent mathematical methods developed by the ETH team. This enables quick and precise planning of search paths that are less sensitive to uncertainties in the time and place of the accident.
In cooperation with a team from MIT, the ETH team tested their new, TRAP-based search algorithm in two separate ocean experiments near Martha’s Vineyard, which is on the northeastern coast of the United States. Working from the same real-time data available to the Coast Guard, the team successfully identified TRAPs in the region in real-time. They found that buoys and manikins (浮标和人体模型) thrown in the water indeed quickly gathered along these emerging curves. “Of several competing approaches tested in the project, this was the only algorithm that consistently found the right location,” says Haller.
“Our results are rapidly obtained, easy to interpret, and cheap to perform,” points out Serra. Haller stresses: “Our hope is that this method will become a standard part of the tool kit of coast guards everywhere.”

A.the survival rate drops to almost zero after six hours B.the use of dynamics leads to the wrong location
C.weather conditions are a determining factor D.changing currents present a challenge

Who doesn’t stand in awe of the advances that science and its STEM siblings (technology, engineering, and math) have created to better our world? But since the time of Aristotle, it has also been recognized that the hard sciences and the humanities must walk side by side in determining human action.
The ancient Greek philosopher praised “practical wisdom” as the “middle ground” between scientific knowledge and what he referred to as the “cunning (狡诈的) intelligence of politicians, military generals and business leaders”. In his Nicomachean Ethics (伦理学), he rejected the idea that scientific knowledge alone could determine the affairs of the human social world, which he recognized as too complex and unpredictable to govern with certainty.
Likewise, he saw that cunning was insufficient to shape a society filled with the “good life.” Aristotle insisted that practical wisdom was required for the advancement of the human race as it would take into account what he called “the common good,” doing what is right for the majority of people living together in society.
Aristotle’s philosophy is still sound today. But to the extent that we side with him, we must challenge our modern era’s overwhelming emphasis on the STEM disciplines as the key to progress. Yes, we will continue to welcome advances in computerization, robotics, nanotechnologies, medicine and more. But to ensure these innovations are in service of the good life, we must also advance our thinking in the humanities: philosophy, social affairs and the arts.
Instead of just STEM, we should perhaps be promoting STEMMA.In that case, we will be able to raise a new generation that has greater capacities for managing collective human efforts and appreciating the arts. Management education — the new “M” in the acronym (缩略词) — has not always been integrated into humanistic thinking, but it must become more so. Our goal must be to develop the thoughtful business leaders of the future. Regarding the “A,” how could it be beneficial to the future without emphasizing the arts, which inform our knowledge of beauty and meaning in human affairs? All the brilliant discoveries of STEM will not solve the grand challenges of today’s world — ignorance, poverty, intolerance and political conflict — without the practical wisdom of humanities-trained leaders.
We can’t march boldly into the future without demanding rapid advancement in the capabilities necessary for preserving our human dignity in a world of artificial super intelligence. Humans are not robots and neurons (神经元) are not digital switches. It is only through the humanities that we will be able to appreciate the answers that superintelligent computers give us when we ask them the hard questions. It is only through the humanities that we will increasingly recognize and build on what we humans uniquely are.
51.What is the primary limitation of relying only on STEM disciplines?
A.They lack the precision needed for modern innovations.
B.They cannot address complex human social challenges alone.
C.They prevent the development of artificial superintelligence.
D.They are too focused on theoretical rather than practical knowledge.
52.The term “practical wisdom” as used by Aristotle emphasizes ______.
A.a balanced approach that considers the common good
B.the need for military strategies in societal development
C.the importance of technological advancement above all else
D.the superiority of scientific knowledge over political cunning
53.What is the author’s purpose in proposing the term “STEMMA”?
A.To replace STEM entirely with a new educational framework.
B.To criticize the current emphasis on technology and engineering.
C.To argue for the inclusion of management and arts in STEM education.
D.To promote the study of ancient Greek philosophy in modern curricula.
54.Which of the following best summarizes Aristotle’s view on scientific knowledge and cunning intelligence?
A.Both are equally harmful to societal progress.
B.Neither is sufficient without practical wisdom.
C.Scientific knowledge is superior to cunning intelligence.
D.Cunning intelligence is more relevant to modern politics.
55.How does the author view the relationship between humans and artificial superintelligence?
A.Humans will eventually be replaced by intelligent robots.
B.Superintelligence will make human decision-making irrelevant.
C.STEM disciplines alone can ensure ethical use of superintelligence.
D.Human dignity and unique qualities must be preserved via humanities.

第一节:阅读表达(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)
阅读下面短文,并根据题目要求用英语回答问题(请注意问题后的字数要求)。
One hot August afternoon, Deena Hoagland and her son Joe sat on a floating platform at Dolphins Plus, a marine center in Key Largo, Florida. Nearby, a large dolphin circled, occasionally lifting its head through the water to observe them. Suddenly, the dolphin threw water on them. Three-year-old Joe, who had a stroke (中风) six weeks earlier, smiled and laughed for the first time since.
Joe was born with a rare heart condition and spent much of his first three years in hospitals. After several heart surgeries, the last one led to a stroke, which left him unconscious for eight days As a result, he lost movement on one side of his body and couldn’t see out of one eye. Feeling hopeless and deeply saddened, Joe became despondent and lost interest in everything, even his favorite toys. Doctors suggested placing him in a full-time rehabilitation center.
Deena refused and decided to try dolphin-assisted therapy. She called Dolphins Plus and got permission to bring Joe. To the surprise of Lloyd Borgas, the owner, Deena arrived with Joe minutes after the call. Borgas was unsure about the wisdom of his generosity but led them to a platform where Joe met Fonzie, a playful dolphin.
Joe’s reaction to Fonzie was positive, and Deena brought him back daily. Joe slowly began to recover from his depression. With each visit, he regained some movement on his left side. Trainers encouraged Joe to swim with Fonzie, and by mid-September, he was swimming with his new friend. Trainers challenged Joe to feed Fonzie with his left hand, helping him regain strength. Over the next two years, Joe fully recovered.
Now a healthy teenager, Joe frequently visits Fonzie and helps his parents with Island Dolphin Care, a program Deena started to help other special-needs children. The program has been successful, helping many children and their families. Deena emphasizes that while dolphins have no special healing powers, the joy and laughter they bring to children can feel magical.

46.In a search and rescue operation, ________.

【答案】51.B 52.A 53.C 54.B 55.D

In that case, we will be able to raise a new generation that has greater capacities for managing collective human efforts and appreciating the arts.(我们不应只推崇STEM教育,或许更应倡导STEMMA理念。唯有如此,才能培养出具备更强人类协作管理能力与艺术鉴赏力的新一代)”可知,作者提出“STEMMA”一词的目的是主张在STEM教育中纳入管理和艺术。故选C项。
54.推理判断题。根据第二段“The ancient Greek philosopher praised “practical wisdom” as the “middle ground” between scientific knowledge and what he referred to as the “cunning (狡诈的) intelligence of politicians, military generals and business leaders”. In his Nicomachean Ethics (伦理学), he rejected the idea that scientific knowledge alone could determine the affairs of the human social world, which he recognized as too complex and unpredictable to govern with certainty.(这位古希腊哲学家称赞“实践智慧”是科学知识和他所说的“政治家、军事将领和商业领袖的狡诈智慧”之间的“中间地带”。在他的《尼各马可伦理学》中,他反对仅靠科学知识就能决定人类社会事务的观点,他认为人类社会事务过于复杂和不可预测,无法确定地治理)”和第三段“Likewise, he saw that cunning was insufficient to shape a society filled with the “good life.” Aristotle insisted that practical wisdom was required for the advancement of the human race as it would take into account what he called “the common good,” doing what is right for the majority of people living together in society.(同样,他也看到狡诈不足以塑造一个充满“美好生活”的社会。亚里士多德坚持认为,人类的进步需要实践智慧,因为它会考虑到他所说的“共同利益”,即为社会上的大多数人做正确的事)”可知,亚里士多德认为科学知识和狡诈的智慧都不足以单独推动社会进步,两者都需要实践智慧的补充。故选B项。
55.推理判断题。根据最后一段“We can’t march boldly into the future without demanding rapid advancement in the capabilities necessary for preserving our human dignity in a world of artificial super intelligence. Humans are not robots and neurons (神经元) are not digital switches. It is only through the humanities that we will be able to appreciate the answers that superintelligent computers give us when we ask them the hard questions. It is only through the humanities that we will increasingly recognize and build on what we humans uniquely are.(在一个拥有超级人工智能的世界里,如果我们不要求迅速提高保护人类尊严的能力,我们就不能大胆地走向未来。

根据第一段中“Suddenly, the dolphin threw water on them. Three year old Joe, who had a stroke (中风) six weeks earlier, smiled and laughed for the first time since.(突然,海豚向他们喷水。六周前中风的三岁的乔自那以来第一次开始微笑,并开怀大笑起来)”可知,Joe自中风后第一次微笑和大笑是因为海豚向他们喷水。故答案为:Because the dolphin threw water on them.
57.考查细节理解。根据第二段中“As a result, he lost movement on one side of his body and couldn’t see out of one eye.(结果,他身体的一侧失去了活动能力,一只眼睛也看不见了)”可知,Joe手术后身体一侧无法活动,一只眼睛视力有问题。故答案为:Joe couldn’t move one side and had trouble seeing.
Hopeless/Depressed/Sad/Unhappy.
59.考查主旨大意。根据第四段“Joe’s reaction to Fonzie was positive, and Deena brought him back daily. Joe slowly began to recover from his depression. With each visit, he regained some movement on his left side. Trainers encouraged Joe to swim with Fonzie, and by mid September, he was swimming with his new friend. Trainers challenged Joe to feed Fonzie with his left hand, helping him regain strength. Over the next two years, Joe fully recovered. Joe improved physically and emotionally by spending time with Fonzie. Or: Joe got better by spending time with Fonzie. Or: Joe was healed by being with Fonzie.
60.考查开放性题目,可根据自己的想法作答。我想选择和动物交朋友,是因为动物能给予爱、陪伴和安慰;我不想和动物交朋友,是因为更愿意与人建立关系。故答案为:Yes, because animals offer love, companionship, and comfort during stressful times. Or. No, because I feel more connected to people and prefer human relationships for support and companionship.

【答案】
