My friend Aiden and his older brother, Lebron, took me on my first camping trip. They showed up with a truck filled with camping supplies. I did pack a backpack, as instructed, but I had no idea what would happen.
Lebron hurried me to get into the truck and drove off and we got off at the beginning of a trail (小路) which became narrower and steeper (陡峭的) as we walked, forcing me to focus on the task at hand and to talk less. As we got higher up, we moved above the tree line, and I could see the trail winding up the mountain. Loose rocks and tree roots make the trail dangerous. Finally, we reached the summit. My legs ached.
“No time to rest.” Lebron said, looking up at the sky. “The weather up here changes quickly, and the cool air means a storm is approaching. We need to set up camp.”
He and Aiden started to work expertly, while I stood around and pretended to help. Soon, they put up the tent. As the storm rolled in, we took cover inside. Lebron, sensing that I was scared of the lightning and thunder, shared some crackers (薄脆饼干) and peanut butter and told stories about his camping adventures.
“This is just a typical summer storm — they’re short lived, but intense, ” Lebron stated. “The campsite might get a bit muddy, but what’s the fun in camping if you can’t get dirty! At least the rain will keep the bears away, ” he said with a smile.
We exited the tent after the storm. I could see for miles, and the rain left a fresh scent of pine and an earthy smell of soil. As darkness set in, I was amazed at the countless stars in the night sky. I longed for a hot shower and a soft bed, but as I looked upward at the Milky Way, I knew this was an adventure I would never forget.
4. What’s a difficulty of the uphill climb?

For the third year, cocoa harvests are coming up short due to abnormal weather, which has led to cocoa beans being so expensive that chocolate makers have little choice but to raise their own prices. “It’s been a pretty dramatic change to our business model,” says Alex Whitmore, who runs Taza Chocolate, a Boston-area manufacturer.
“The cost of cocoa for us has almost tripled (三倍),” he says. “We did raise prices by almost 15% and it’s a possibility that we may have to increase again, but we’re doing everything we can to hold the line.” Big chocolate brands such as Nestle, Hershey and Mondelēz, which makes Cadbury and Milka, have all raised prices, too, and warn of further increases over this year.
The world’s supply of cocoa is having the worst shortage in 60 years, says David Branch, an agricultural industry analyst at Wells Fargo. That’s because most of the world’s cocoa comes from West Africa, particularly Ivory Coast and Ghana. Changing climate patterns have farmers there dealing with extreme weather and sick trees. “Too much moisture (潮气) followed by getting too hot and drying out too much.” Branch says, explaining that shifting weather patterns stress older cocoa trees and make them more sensitive to disease. Globally, the latest crop data showed production down 13% from a year earlier, Branch says, marking the third year of declines.
And the good news is that the market is correcting itself — just slowly. Bakeries and other companies that don’t absolutely have to use chocolate are focusing more on other flavours. Big manufacturers are pushing shoppers towards chewy, gummy or other less-chocolatey candy. KitKat, for example, has launched other flavours, without chocolate dip. Countries outside West Africa have stepped up their cocoa production. Branch says farmers in Ecuador, for example, have planted new trees that will produce a lot more cocoa a few years down the road.
8. What caused the rising price of the chocolate?
A. Extreme weather. B. High transportation costs.
C. High consumer demand. D. Deep addiction to chocolate.
9. What does the underlined phrase “hold the line” in Paragraph 2 mean?
A. Wait on the phone. B. Be careful.
C Calm down. D. Keep prices little changed.
10. What do we know about the old cocoa trees?
A. They are being cut down. B. They get ill easily.
C. They are badly polluted. D. They die rapidly.
11. What does the last paragraph mainly talk about?
A. The new flavours created by bakeries.
B. Some measures to deal with the shortage of cocoa.
C. The cocoa production in West Africa.
D. Less-chocolatey candy produced by big companies.
A 9. D 10. B 11. B
根据文章第一段中的“For the third year, cocoa harvests are coming up short due to abnormal weather, which has led to cocoa beans being so expensive that chocolate makers have little choice but to raise their own prices. (今年已经是连续第三年,可可作物的收成出现了不足的情况,原因是异常的天气所致。这使得可可豆的价格变得极为昂贵,以至于巧克力制造商别无选择,只能提高自己的产品价格。)”可知,由于异常天气,可可收成连续第三年歉收,导致可可豆价格昂贵,巧克力制造商别无选择,只能提高自己的价格。故选A项。
根据文章第二段中的“We did raise prices by almost 15% and it’s a possibility that we may have to increase again , but we’re doing everything we can to hold the line.” D选项“Keep prices little changed.
根据文章第三段中的“Branch says, explaining that shifting weather patterns stress older cocoa trees and make them more sensitive to disease. (Branch解释道:“由于气候模式的不断变化,老可可树承受的压力增大,它们也变得更加容易受到病害的侵袭。”)”可知,变化的天气模式使老可可树受到压力,并使它们更容易生病。即老可可树,容易生病。故选B项。
【11题详解】
主旨大意题。根据文章最后一段中“Bakeries and other companies that don’t absolutely have to use chocolate are focusing more on other flavours. Big manufacturers are pushing shoppers towards chewy, gummy or other less-chocolate y candy. (面包店以及其他无需使用巧克力的公司正更多地转向其他口味的糖果。大型制造商正引导消费者选择口感有嚼劲、呈胶状或其他巧克力含量较低的糖果。)”可知,这一段主要讲述了市场正在自我调整,一些措施被采取来应对可可短缺的问题。因此,这一段主要谈论的是一些应对可可短缺的措施。故选B项。
D
An international group of astronomers has joined efforts seeking to establish a separate time zone for the moon. The French-based International Astronomical Union (IAU) recently approved a resolution on the matter, which calls on space organizations around the world to cooperate on establishing a standard.
The moon’s orbital (轨道的) movements around Earth make one day on the lunar surface equal to 29.5 Earth days. And because the moon has less gravity compared to Earth, time moves slightly faster there, about 58.7 microseconds quicker each day.
Currently, moon operations run on the time of the country that is launching spacecraft. But supporters of creating a separate time zone say this method will have to change; more countries and private space companies are starting to launch their own moon missions.
In 2023, the European Space Agency (ESA) pushed for the creation of a lunar clock. And earlier this year, the US space agency NASA and other agencies came up with a timekeeping plan for the moon by the end of 2026. ESA noted communication and navigation (导航) systems built for the moon will perform much better if they use “the same timescale”. In addition, a separate time zone will support “the many other crewed and uncrewed missions” planned for the future, ESA said.
In the past, NASA also considered establishing a separate time zone for the International Space Station (ISS). But the agency decided against it. Instead, the ISS runs on Coordinated Universal Time, or UTC, which is based on time kept by atomic clocks. NASA officials say this system helps ease the time difference between NASA and the Canadian Space Agency, as well as other space partners in Russia, Japan and Europe.
The international team looking at establishing a lunar time zone has said it is still deciding whether a single organization should be chosen to set and keep time on the moon. Bijunath Patla is a physicist at the US Commerce Department’s National Institute of Standards and Technology. He said that astronomers are still deciding on how a lunar clock would work. Patla said, “I think the community has realized that this needs to be done. And this is the beginning. ”
12. What makes lunar time move slightly faster than Earth?
A. The difference of gravity. B. The position of the Earth.
C. Different timing methods. D. Different orbital movements.
13. Why is ISS still using UTC?
A. Atomic clocks are accurate in timing.
B. There are differences in opinions among partners.
C. NASA has never wanted to use a separate time zone.
D. UTC can reduce the inconvenience caused by time differences,
14. What can we conclude from the last paragraph?
A. There is still a long way to go to achieve this goal.
B. Bijunath Patla is the main person in charge of the IAU.
C. A lunar clock has been successfully developed and put into use.
D. A new international organization has begun to engage in this work.
15. What can be a suitable title for the text?
A. The ISS Will Adapt to a Separate Time Zone
B. New Challenges Are Faced by Landing on the Moon
C. Astronomy Group Joins Effort to Establish Time Zone on the Moon
D. The Future Space Programme Depends on a Unified Timing Method
A 13. D 14. A 15. C

根据文章第五段中的“NASA officials say this system helps ease the time difference between NASA and the Canadian Space Agency, as well as other space partners in Russia, Japan and Europe. (美国国家航空航天局的官员表示,该系统有助于缓解美国国家航空航天局与加拿大航天局之间,以及与俄罗斯、日本和欧洲等其他航天机构之间的时间差异。)”可知,美国宇航局官员表示,这一系统有助于减轻美国宇航局与加拿大航天局以及其他俄罗斯、日本和欧洲的航天合作伙伴之间的时差。故选D项。
【14题详解】
推理判断题。根据文章最后一段中的“The international team looking at establishing a lunar time zone has said it is still deciding whether a single organization should be chosen to set and keep time on the moon. (负责制定月球时区的国际团队表示,他们仍在考虑是否应由一个单一的组织来负责在月球上设定和维持时间标准。)”以及“I think the community has realized that this needs to be done. And this is the beginning. (我认为社区已经意识到这件事必须去做。而这仅仅是个开始。)”可知,该负责团队正在考虑是否要在月球上设定和维持时间标准,即表明该单独时区还未实施同时这也仅仅是个开始,因此要达到这项目标还有很长的路要走。故选A项。
根据第一段中“An international group of astronomers has joined efforts seeking to establish a separate time zone for the moon. 第二节 (满分25分)
47. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Recently, I started my first day of high school. A lot of people build up the first day to be the most intimidating (令人惊恐) thing. I went from a tiny middle school to this giant high school and was expecting not to know where anything was. I also was panicking because I knew ninth grade would have higher expectations than eighth, and I wasn’t sure how I would do at taking on that challenge. The one thing that kept me calm was that my best friend Dora is actually at my new school, so I have someone to talk to or at least go to when I don’t know what I’m doing.
I had to take the bus to school, which was not something I’d had to do before. Dora and I took the bus together and we talked the whole way there about how we thought the first day would turn out. When we entered the school, everyone was hugging and saying hi and I was awkwardly standing there and holding onto my friend’s bag through the crowd of people. I hated crowds so I stayed with Dora who was probably annoyed by me holding onto her the whole morning. I started to calm down when we all were waiting for the first bell to ring. When Dora and I had to separate, I didn’t want to go to class. When I did, I simply stood at the door because I had no idea where to sit. I sat in the way back. My teacher seemed friendly so I was a little calm. My deskmate Jane barely talked, but when she did, she seemed really nice.
Although a lot of students might not laugh when I made a strange joke, they weren’t rude. My teachers told us about the high expectations for their school and I was kind of worried because I came from a school where I didn’t have too much work or high expectations. After maths class, we needed to go to another classroom to have history class.

1. 续写词数应为150个左右;

During lunch, Jane and I joined Dora at a table.
___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
I was a little scared because I had no idea where to go. The hallways were a sea of unfamiliar faces, and the noise level was overwhelming. I clutched my schedule tightly, trying to navigate through the bustling crowds. Dora had a different schedule, so I was on my own. I felt like everyone else knew exactly where they were going, while I was lost in a maze. Suddenly, I heard Jane call my name. With the help of Jane, I found my next classroom just as the bell rang. I slipped into a seat, feeling relieved but still nervous about what the rest of the day would bring.
During lunch, Jane and I joined Dora at a table. At first, I introduced Jane to Dora. Then Dora introduced us to some of her other friends, and although I was still a bit shy, I tried to join in the conversation. It was comforting to have a familiar face and to see that not everyone was as confident as they seemed. As the day went on, I started to feel more comfortable. By the end of the day, I realized that high school wasn’t as intimidating as I had feared, and I was ready to face the challenges ahead with a bit more confidence.

C. The author began to enjoy the experience. D. They found shelter in a comfortable place.

11. What does the last paragraph mainly talk about?
A. The new flavours created by bakeries.
B. Some measures to deal with the shortage of cocoa.
C. The cocoa production in West Africa.
D. Less-chocolatey candy produced by big companies.

An international group of astronomers has joined efforts seeking to establish a separate time zone for the moon. The French-based International Astronomical Union (IAU) recently approved a resolution on the matter, which calls on space organizations around the world to cooperate on establishing a standard.
The moon’s orbital (轨道) movements around Earth make one day on the lunar surface equal to 29.5 Earth days.
D. UTC can reduce the inconvenience caused by time differences
14. What can we conclude from the last paragraph?
A. There is still a long way to go to achieve this goal.
B Bijunath Patla is the main person in charge of the IAU.

Recently, I started my first day of high school. A lot of people build up the first day to be the most intimidating (令人惊恐的) thing.
