When faced with the decision to get out of bed or have a few more minutes of sleep, which do you choose? Believe it or not, that decision could make a world of difference in the rest of your day.
About 85 percent of Americans use an alarm clock to wake up in the mornings, according to sleep researcher Till Roennenber. And while there are no official numbers on snoozing (打盹), a quick survey of social media makes it clear that hitting the snooze button is a popular pastime.
As to how the snooze button will affect your day, scientists have mixed opinions. Some scientists think people who hit the snooze button in the mornings are actually clever, creative and happy while some said that hitting the snooze button will ruin your life, or at the very least your day. "I feel that hitting the snooze button has got to be one of the worst things that ever happened to human sleep,” researcher Jonathan Horowitz said. "The chances of you ‘snoozing’ and actually experiencing a meaningful rest are close to zero.”
According to some sleep experts, when hitting the snooze button, you are in fact confusing your body and mind, and throwing yourself into a deep state of being sleepy. The body needs some time to wake up, so, when returning to what will be a light sleep for a brief period of time, you are putting your body back into a sleep mode before waking it again. At that point your body won’t know what it wants, resulting in a sort of half awaken state.
If you really want to take advantage of an alarm clock, the key is to form a healthy sleep cycle. Focus your efforts on getting enough sleep each night and waking up at the same time each day so that when your alarm goes off you feel rested.
4. What can we infer about hitting the snooze button from Paragraph 2?
A. People do it just for fun. B. It is a common practice.
C. People take it seriously. D. It is a bit childish.
5. What do some sleep experts think of hitting the snooze button?
A. It is meaningful in the long term.
B. It makes people become lazy.
C It brings us a sense of satisfaction.
D. It affects our body and mind.
6. What’s the author’s suggestion on getting the best out of alarms?
A. Forming a good sleep habit. B. Trying to relax ourselves.
C. Making use of willpower. D. Using an extra alarm.
7. What is the best title for the text?
A. Ways to keep refreshed in the morning.
B. The snooze button and people's character.
C. Should you rely on the snooze button?
D. How to avoid the light sleep mode?
【答案】4. B 5. D 6. A 7. C
【解析】
【分析】这是一篇说明文。很多人习惯于早上设置闹钟,并在闹钟响起后再睡一会儿,文章讲述了这种做法的坏处,并给出了科学的作息方案。
【4题详解】
推理判断题。根据第二段最后一句“And while there are no official numbers on snoozing (打盹), a quick survey of social media makes it clear that hitting the snooze button is a popular pastime.”可知,根据社交媒体上的小调查,按下小睡按钮是很多人都有的习惯,与B选项含义一致。故选B项。
【5题详解】
细节理解题。根据第四段第一句“According to some sleep experts, when hitting the snooze button, you are in fact confusing your body and mind, and throwing yourself into a deep state of being sleepy.”可知,在一些睡眠专家看来,起床后小睡会迷惑身体和大脑,D选项“它会影响身体和大脑”含义一致。故选D项。
【6题详解】
细节理解题。根据最后一段第一句“If you really want to take advantage of an alarm clock, the key is to form a healthy sleep cycle.”可知,作者给出的利用好闹钟的建议是,养成健康的睡眠周期,与A选项“养成良好的睡眠习惯”含义一致。故选A项。
C
Some futurists have gone so far as to say that, intelligent machines will replace teachers within 10 years. Not surprisingly, this causes concern among educators. As artificial intelligence (AI) develops, it is playing an increasingly important role in education. But should teachers really be worried?
I have been involved in AI in education throughout my career, developed award-winning AI-based products. While I am more excited than ever about the potential of AI to improve the quality and economies of learning, I don’t think educators should worry about being replaced by machines. Instead, AI is more likely to empower teachers: reduce overwork, and make their jobs more rewarding.
Studies show that teachers have more impact on students’ achievement than any other aspect of schooling, and effective teachers have a lasting impact on students’ success. Yet many teachers report that their workload is unmanageable, and much of their time is devoted to activities other than teaching. This is an area where AI can help. For example, by automating the scoring of student work teachers spend less time on grading assignments and data input and management and focus instead on responding to students’ needs.
Teachers with large classes find it stressful to meet the needs of individual students. AI can give these the practice opportunities and individualized feedback that they otherwise might not receive. Teachers have few opportunities to interact with students outside of the classroom. AI-based learning environments can be made available to students anywhere and anytime. Learning can continue outside of the classroom. This helps every learner to make rapid progress toward mastery of their subjects.
Thus, the question should not be whether AI will replace teachers, but how it can support teacher and learners both inside and outside the classroom.

9. What is the author’s opinion about AI in education?
A. AI has the potential to replace teachers.
B. AI is less useful than educators
C. AI can make education very profitable
D. AI can replace teachers
10. According to the author, AI can support teachers by ________.
A. helping teachers organize class activities
B. reducing the time teachers spend on activities other than teaching
C. interacting with students
D. helping teachers check how students are mastering what they have learnt
11. What is the author mainly talking about?
A. The development of AI.
B. The impacts that teachers have had on education.
C. The importance of educators in education.
D. The ways that AI can help educators.
【答案】8. D 9. C 10. B 11. D

Exercise lowers the risk of many diseases, but scientists still don’t fully understand how exercise changes the body on a molecular (分子的) level. Most studies have focused on a single organ, sex, or time point, and only include one or two data types.
To take a more comprehensive look at the biology of exercise, scientists with the Molecular Transducers of Physical Activity Consortium (MoTrPAC) used a range of techniques in the lab to analyze molecular changes in rats as they were put through the paces of weeks of intense exercise.
The team studied a range of tissues from the animals, such as the heart, brain, and lungs. They found that each of the organs they looked at changed with exercise, helping the body to regulate the immune system (免疫系统), respond to stress, and control pathways connected to inflammatory (发炎的) liver disease, heart disease, and tissue injury.
The data provide potential clues into many different human health conditions; for example, the researchers found a possible explanation for why the liver becomes less fatty during exercise, which could help in the development of new treatments for non-alcoholic fatty liver disease.
The team hopes that their findings could one day be used to tailor exercise to an individual’s health status or to develop treatments that mimic the effects of physical activity for people who are unable to exercise. They have already started studies on people to track the molecular effects of exercise.
“It took a village of scientists with distinct scientific backgrounds to generate and integrate the massive amount of high-quality data,” said a co-senior author of the study. “This is the first whole-organism map looking at the effects of training in multiple different organs. The resource produced will be enormously valuable, and has already produced many potentially novel biological insights for further exploration.”
12. What is the primary focus of the studies conducted by MoTrPAC?
A. The overall molecular changes due to exercise.
B. The impact of exercise on immune system only.
C. The effects of exercise limited to heart and lungs.
D. The molecular effects of exercise on a single organ.
13. What potential application does the research have?
A. It makes for developing new sports equipment.
B. It can be used to predict the effects of exercise.
C. It explains how exercise increases stress levels.
D. It can help understand various health conditions.
14. What is the researchers’ current work?
A. Tailoring exercise programs based on the molecular data.
B Developing treatment s that mimic the effects of exercise.
C. Studying the molecular effects of exercise in human subjects.
D. Expanding the study to a broader range of health conditions.
15. What can we infer about the research from the last paragraph?
A. It’s commercial. B. It’s a team’s effort.
C. It’s insignificant. D. It’s an interesting debate.
【答案】12. A 13. D 14. C 15. B

You might dream of fluency in this or that language, and maybe you’ve already achieved fluency in a foreign language.___16___.
Fluency, like all abstract terms, has no universal meaning. Each individual must determine what the term means.___17___.
Perfect fluency means knowing every word you encounter, speaking quickly, clearly and easily and having no accent.___18___. You aren’t familiar with every word of your native language, and sometimes you have to search for the right word, even in your mother tongue.Quick fluency is the type of fluency you see in advertisements, because “Master a Language in Two Months!” sounds way catchier than “Fluency in Twenty Years!”___19___. It is possible to achieve quick fluency, but the fluency achieved after such a short time frame will be a very thin, superficial fluency.
___20___. Native-like fluency means that you generally know all the same words that a native knows and can speak at the same pace with the same amount of ease as a native speaker. You will likely have an accent, but as long as your conversation partner can understand you, it doesn’t matter.Literary fluency is like graduating from native-like to educated-native-like fluency. It focuses on the more intellectual(知识性的) side of a language: indulging in literature, attending university, composing song lyrics, etc.
There are a ton of other things that fluency could potentially(可能地) be, but that’s up to you to figure out.
A. It sounds too good to be true.
B. However, Nobody is “perfectly fluent” in any language.
C. Quick fluency is good if you have some sort of deadline.
D. But have you ever considered what fluency really means?
E. But does fluency have the same meaning to other person as it does to you?
F. Unlike perfect fluency, native-like fluency is a reasonable and attainable goal.
G. To assist you in determining what fluency is, I’ll describe a few different types of fluency.
【答案】16. D 17. G 18. B 19. A 20. F
【解析】

【答案】Possible versions:
参考范文一:
Hello, everyone! If I could travel back to ancient times and bring one modern item, I’d bring a solar-powered flashlight. It is a lighting device that uses solar energy to charge its batteries. When exposed to sunlight, the solar panel will convert the light energy into electrical energy, which is then stored in the flashlight’s batteries.
In ancient times, lighting was often limited to torches, candles, or oil lamps, which were inconvenient and carried the risk of fire. A solar-powered flashlight would provide a clean and long-lasting source of light, reducing the reliance on flammable materials. Besides, it would enable ancient people to engage in a wider variety of activities, such as traveling at night or working in dark places.
Just imagine how amazed people would be to see such a useful device!
参考范文二:
Hello, everyone! If allowed to bring one modern item to ancient times, I would choose the tiny infection-fighting medicine — small in size yet powerful in impact.
In times when minor wounds often led to deaths due to poor medical care, this portable medicine could save lives by preventing deadly infections caused by battle injuries or common illnesses. Additionally, it would inspire deeper medical exploration. Once the basic production methods are shared, people might advance their understanding of disease prevention, potentially reshaping health practices throughout history.
In short, antibiotics represents hope and progress. They not only address immediate survival needs but also plant early seeds for scientific curiosity that could blossom into groundbreaking discoveries. Thank you!

第二节 (满分25分)
47. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
It was a fresh autumn morning when Emma finally made up her mind to adopt a dog. She had long desired a furry companion, and now, with her life more settled, she was ready to open her heart and home. After some research, she decided on a beagle (小猎犬).
Emma drove to the local animal shelter, her heart filled with a blend of excitement and nervous anticipation. As she stepped inside, the sound of barking and the distinct smell of disinfectant (消毒剂) greeted her. Then, a kind volunteer named Sarah guided her to the doghouses. Among the numerous dogs, a beagle named Max immediately caught Emma’s eye. He was two years old, a bit shy from being abandoned by his previous family. However, when Emma extended her hand, Max sniffed it and then planted a gentle lick, and at that moment, Emma knew he was the perfect match.
She completed the adoption process and bought a rope, collar, and a few toys from the shelter’s shop, and before she knew it, Max was sitting in the passenger seat of her car, looking out of the window with curiosity. The first few days were an adjustment. Max was shy at first, exploring his new home cautiously. He sniffed every corner, every piece of furniture, and every inch of the apartment.
One day, while Emma was preparing dinner, she heard a loud crash. Hurrying into the living room, she discovered that Max had somehow managed to knock over a small side table while pursuing a fly. The glass on it broke into pieces, and Max stood there, gazing at her with his large, regretful eyes. Seeing his lovely and guilty expression, Emma couldn’t help laughing out. As time passed, Max grew more at ease in his new surroundings. And their daily walks in the park became a cherished routine.

___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】One day, when they were walking in the park as usual, Max suddenly became very excited. His tail wagged wildly as he let out a string of eager barks, pulling at the rope to drag Emma in a specific direction. Curious, Emma followed, and soon she spotted what had caught Max’s attention — a bright red ball lying abandoned on the grass. Remembering how Max loved to sniff everything, she watched as he circled the ball, his nose sniffing rapidly. Recognizing his excitement, Emma picked up the ball and threw it gently. Max’s eyes lit up, and he dashed after it, his paws hitting hard on the ground. When he returned, he dropped the ball at Emma’s feet, his eyes begging for another throw.
From then on, ball-chasing became a daily activity for them in the park. Every time they prepared to go out, Max would eagerly fetch the ball, holding it in his mouth and looking at Emma with bright, excited eyes. Once at the park, Emma would throw the ball as far as she could. Max would dash after it, his ears flapping in the wind. Sometimes when he missed catching it, he would stand there, gazing at Emma with his large, regretful eyes. Watching him, Emma felt deep contentment, seeing the once-shy, abandoned dog full of life. As the sun set, casting a warm glow, they sat on a bench. Max leaned close as Emma stroked his fur — a perfect, loving end to another day together.

C. It brings us a sense of satisfaction.
D. It affects our body and mind.
6 What’s the author’s suggestion on getting the best out of alarms?

8. According to what futurists say in the first paragraph, we can learn ________.
A. intelligent machines are developing fast
B. teachers are irreplaceable in school
C. the teacher is playing an important role in education
D. Al might be a threat to educators
9. What is the author’s opinion about AI in education?
A. AI has the potential to replace teachers.
B AI is less useful than educators
C. AI can make education very profitable
D. AI can replace teachers
10. According to the author, AI can support teachers by ________.
A. helping teachers organize class activities
B. reducing the time teachers spend on activities other than teaching
C. interacting with students
D. helping teachers check how students are mastering what they have learnt
11. What is the author mainly talking about?
A. The development of AI.
B. The impacts that teachers have had on education.
C. The importance of educators in education.
D. The ways that AI can help educators.
