It’s the best way to brighten up a room, place, or person. Each color has a meaning or symbolizes something important in different cultures. When it comes to Chinese culture especially, colors have important meanings and stand for different beliefs. There has been the color red since prehistoric (史前的) times. It is said that most of the cave drawings discovered in different parts of the world including China were done in red. Earlier on, China is also said to have used the color red to paint in early pottery (陶器,陶瓷) . Later it was used to paint the walls and gates of the Chinese palaces. Even in the paintings of the emperors, most of them are seen wearing red robes (长袍) . It is not clear as to exactly when red became an official color, much less when it was introduced to China or became an important part of its culture. There are however some myths that try to explain this. The first myth shows that red became a lucky color during the Han Dynasty: It is believed that the first emperor of the Han Dynasty was the son of the Red Emperor. As such, people in that period saw the color red as a symbol of honor and power and decided to honor it. Another myth is that there was a mythical beast called Nian. Nian used to eat people every new year’s eve. But one day people were told that the beast was scared of loud noises and the color red. So, they started hanging red scrolls (卷轴) and lanterns in front of their doors and lighted firecrackers and performed the lion dance. Since then, the beast is said to have disappeared and never returned. This tradition is carried forward to the present day. 根据短文内容,选择正确答案。 41. How does the writer start the passage? A. Well, as a festival to remember the dead people, it first started 2,000 years ago in Ireland (爱尔兰). The Celts (凯尔特人) were the first to celebrate it. That day was their New Year’s Day. At that time, the weather was getting colder and the daytime was getting shorter. So they believed that the world was changing from bright to dark at that time. As a result, the dead might come to the world. Then the Celts dressed up as ghosts so that the dead would think the Celts were members of them and wouldn’t hurt or kill them. However, this festival is no longer so scary now. People in the Western world especially love it. Kids can dress up as their favorite cartoon characters and play tricks on others. Adults can also buy unreal scary things like spiders and snakes to scare their workmates. In recent years, this festival has become more popular in many countries. But it may surprise you that not many countries have a holiday for that festival. For example, in the US and China, it may just mean another festival to have fun. People usually get together at a party after work, dressing up as different characters to talk and dance. But if you want to do something special that day, making your own pumpkin lanterns (南瓜灯) may be a good idea. First, cut the pumpkin into two parts so that you can clean the inside using a spoon. They are listening, speaking, reading and writing. People usually think speaking is the most important. However, what’s the answer to the following questions? What do you have to do before you can speak? What does a child learn before he talks? What do we do before chatting (聊天)? The answer is listening, of course! In English learning, we don’t pay enough attention to listening. We have one mouth but two ears! So we should listen twice as much as we speak. Have you ever asked yourself, “How did I learn my own language?” In fact you never really learned it at all-you just started speaking it. But this speaking is the result of hearing your native (本国的) language for two or three years. Words go into your head and then they come out of your head. That is why listening to English as much as possible is so important to you now. The more English you put in, the more you’ll get out! There are two pieces of advice about improving your listening. The first is that don’t worry if you don’t understand every word. The second is being a good listener. To be a good listener, you should face the speaker, look at the speaker and let him or her know you are listening. 根据短文内容,回答下列问题。 61. A. (D) When we hear others talk about Halloween, most of us remember the words “trick or treat” and the scary clothes people wear that night. Then draw the eyes and mouth on the pumpkin for you to cut. Of course, don’t cut yourself. Third, carefully fix (固定) the candle to the center of the pumpkin. Finally, put the two parts together using glue or toothpicks (牙签). 根据短文内容,判断句子正(T)、误(F)。 51. Halloween started 2,000 years ago in Ireland to remember the dead people. 52. The Celts dressed up as ghosts to hurt or kill people. 53. Kids and adults can dress up as something they like now. 54. In China, there is a holiday for Halloween. 55. If you want to do something special on Halloween, you can make a pumpkin lantern in three steps. (E) The World Games is organized by the International World Games Association. (F) Everyone knows that there are four skills in learning a language.
