We have heard some interesting ways that 5G wireless technology might change our lives in the future.
5G, short for the 5th generation mobile communication technology, promises Internet speeds between 50 to 100 times faster than current 4G systems. While 5G is set to be used in some limited areas of America this year, much of the world is not expected to receive widely available service until 2023.
One project in Britain, however, is already testing this superfast technology on an unlikely group of Internet users — cows. The project was developed by American technology company Cisco Systems, Inc. It also receives money from the British government. Cisco says the program seeks to explore the future of 5G connectivity in rural areas around the world.
Testing areas were set up at farms in three rural areas of England. The cows are equipped with 5G-connected devices(装置) that link up to a robotic milking system, which uses sensors and machine learning to fully automate the process. System designers say technology takes over after a cow feels ready to be milked and walks toward an automatic gate. The device is designed to recognize each individual cow. It then positions equipment to the right body position for milking. During the process, machines release food for the cow as a reward.
Other 5G technology tools include automated brushes that turn on when the cow rubs (蹭) up against them. Sensors also control the amount of light to the cows’ living areas depending on the weather. And, an automatic feeding system makes sure the animals always get enough to eat.
Duncan Forbes, head of the project, told Reuters that the project shows the farm’s cow operations can be greatly improved with 5G technology and that the experiment provides strong evidence that 5G technology can be widely used in the future, not just on farms in Britain, but in rural communities across the world.
4. What is the purpose of Cisco Systems, Inc.’s project?
A. To win financial support from British government.
B. To test the effects of 5G technology on animals.
C. To promote its technological development in Britain.
D. To expand the future use of 5G in rural communities.
5. What does the underlined word “It” in Paragraph 3 refer to?
A. The project. B. The company.
C. The technology. D. The group.
6. What can we learn about 5G according to the text?
A. It is no worse than 4G in terms of speed.
B. It is already widely available in the world.
C. It has made improvement in operating the cows.
D. It is based on sensors and machine learning.
7. In which section of a newspaper may this text appear?
A. Entertainment. B. Lifestyle. C. Education. D. Technology.

Americans love their national parks. Last year, these lands attracted 331 million people. Visitors expect to be provided with roads, bridges, restrooms and more. The more people come, the more it costs to keep up the infrastructure (基础设施).
Unfortunately, the funds needed are not enough. The national parks have a backlog of more than $ 11 billion in things that need to be repaired or replaced. The Interior Department has proposed a solution: higher fees.
The increase would apply at 17 of the most popular parks, including Yellowstone and Acadia, during peak months. Currently, a seven-day pass costs $ 25 or $ 30 for a carload of parents and kids. Under this proposal, the fee would rise to $ 70 for each vehicle, with each motorcycle charged $ 50 and cyclists $ 30 per person.
That $ 70 may sound steep, but for a family of four spending a week inside, it works out to $ 2.50 per person per day. A one-day ticket at the gate for Great America, by comparison, costs $ 54.99 for children and $ 74.99 for adults. And let’s not even talk about Walt Disney World. For most people, the additional cost would be a tiny part of their total outlay. Studies show that entrance fees make up only 1.2 to 1.5 percent of visitors’ total trip expense.
The proposed change would yield $70 million, a 34 percent increase. And visitors may be happy to know that 80 percent of each fee they pay will go to the park they visited.
Nature provides Americans with the wonders of these parks for free. But making them accessible and enjoyable for millions of people costs money and the administration has a sound idea for how to get it.
8. What is the text mainly about?
A. American national parks raised their entrance fees.
B. American national parks are cheaper to visit than others.
C. Americans love their national parks more than other people.
D. Entrance fees make up a small percent of visitors’ trip expense.
9. What does the underlined word “backlog” in Paragraph 2 mean?
A Something strange. B. Something unfinished.
C. Something important. D. Something unnecessary.
10. What can we learn from Paragraph 4?
A. The increase is so much.
B. Effect of the increase is obvious.
C. The increase is acceptable.
D. Opinions about the increase are different.
11. What are visitors happy to know?
A. They will receive more service.
B. They can stay longer in the parks.
C. The money they pay will be used on the park.
D. The money they pay will be used to help the homeless.
D
Astronauts do a lot to prepare for the many things that can go wrong during space travel. But they can’t be experts in everything. That’s why NASA is testing to see if robots can fill in some of the gaps.
A robot MIRA took an important step in that direction. Scientists succeeded in testing the robot’s ability to perform operations while on the International Space Station (ISS). And what’s more, they controlled the robot remotely from Earth.
The robot was designed by a Lincoln, Nebraska-based company called Virtual Incision. Robots have long been used in surgery, but MIRA is the first miniature version of robotic-assisted surgery technology in development. The company said it’s about 1,000 times lighter than previous technologies, making it ideal for space travel where every pound matters.
The goal of the experiment was to see if and how MIRA’s surgical capabilities would be affected by zero gravity. It attempted to perform a series of surgical tasks on simulated(模拟) human tissue while aboard the ISS, remotely controlled by six researchers in Lincoln, Nebraska. The robot performed a dissection(解剖) task common in surgeries, using its left hand to create tension in the tissue and its right to dissect the tissue with scissors.
Researchers reported that the robot was able to successfully complete the task. As to the question of how zero gravity affects the robot’s surgical skills, they said it would take a few weeks or months before results were sent back to Earth.
One goal of the research is to develop technology that could one day allow doctors to perform surgeries on astronauts remotely from Earth. It could also have a big impact on Earth, helping those who don’t have access to a surgeon get the help they need.
12. What is the function of Paragraph 1?
A. To present a phenomenon. B. To introduce the topic.
C. To comment on the event. D. To arouse the readers’ interest.
13. What can be known about MIRA?
A. Its weight is suitable to travel to space.
B. It has long been used in surgery in space.
C. It has performed a surgery on human issues.
D. It is the first version of robotic-assisted surgery.
14. What is the goal of the research?
A. To reduce the impact of zero gravity on robots.
B. To make space more inhabitable.
C To allow more doctors accessible in poor areas.
D. To help with health care of astronauts in space.
15. Which of the following is the best title for the text?
A. Robots Can Fill in Some of the Gaps
B. Doctors Controlled the Robot Remotely from Earth
C. Scientists Successfully Tested the Robot’s Surgery Skills in Space
D. Robots Took the Place of doctors in Surgeries

第二节(满分25分)
47. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
I was nominated (提名) for our school’s debate team. I jumped at the chance. When I got home that day, I began to fill out the application form, trying hard to prove how I met all the team’s criteria: strong communication skills, teamwork, and a good understanding of current events.
The next day, I handed in my application and waited with eagerness. I was on tenterhooks (如坐针毡) , anticipation building up with each tick of the clock.
Two weeks went by, and I received a letter from the school about the debate team, which began with “I’m sorry to…”. As soon as the school bus let me off that afternoon, I raced into the house. My mother was typing at the computer.
“Mom,” I said, my voice barely above a whisper, “I didn’t make the debate team.”
She looked up, a smile playing on her lips, thinking I was joking, and playfully reached out to high-five me. But the tears in my eyes told a different story.
“No, really, I wasn’t picked,” I told her, handing her the letter.
Her smile faded, replaced by a look of genuine concern. “Oh, sweetheart, I’m sorry,” she said, surprised. “There must be some mistake.” She called the debate team advisor, but he confirmed there were no mistakes and the decision was final. Hearing that, I broke down and burst out crying.
The rejection stung (刺痛) me, especially when I saw friends celebrating their acceptance. I felt cheated, questioning the fairness of the process. In my view, some selected didn’t deserve it as much as I did. Bitterness crept (潜入) into my words as I complained.
“I’m the best fit for the team,” I protested.
“See, Jenny, complaining won’t get you on the team.” Mom gave me a serious look.
注意:
1. 续写词数应为150左右;
2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
I stared at Mom and listened eagerly.

B. Effect of the increase is obvious.
C. The increase is acceptable.
D. Opinions about the increase are different.
11. What are visitors happy to know?
A. They will receive more service.

C. To allow more doctors accessible in poor areas.
D. To help with health care of astronauts in space.
15. Which of the following is the best title for the text?
A. Robots Can Fill in Some of the Gaps
B Doctors Controlled the Robot Remotely from Earth
C. Scientists Successfully Tested the Robot’s Surgery Skills in Space
D. Robots Took the Place of doctors in Surgeries

【答案】
With the development of advanced technology, artificial intelligence makes life increasingly convenient, which also brought about many problems yet.
Undoubtedly, AI will make a big difference to tomorrow’s world. Firstly, with the widespread application of AI people are freed from daily routine, and some scientists can push the boundaries of human achievements in fields like space exploration. Besides, AI may take over work done by humans, putting an end to the human race and making us lazier and less intelligent.
In my opinion, the use of AI should be placed under the authority of the government. Researchers are expected to further develop AI devices so that they can serve us better.

第二节(满分25分)

【答案】参考范文:
I stared at Mom and listened eagerly. She shared her own stories of failure and disappointment and how she turned them into opportunities for growth. “Every rejection is a lesson,” she said. With her guidance, I spent the next three months improving my skills. I practiced debates, read extensively to stay updated on current events, and sought feedback from teachers and peers. I even started a debate club after school to gain more experience.
I did make it when a second chance came 3 months later. When the team needed an extra member for an upcoming tournament, they considered my dedication and improvement. This time, I was ready. My performance in the tryouts was confident and well-prepared. Joining the team was a sweet victory, but the real win was in the resilience I had built and the lessons I had learned along the way. My mother’s wisdom had steered me through a tough time, and I was grateful for the journey that had made me a better debater and a stronger person.
