Jonathan is participating in Ride the Wind 2024, and has become the first French singer- songwriter to take part in the hit Chinese music competition formerly known as Sisters Who Make Waves. Produced by Mango TV, the show invites female celebrities (名人), mostly over the age of 30, to stage performances that challenge showbiz (娱乐界) age stereotypes in China. Jonathan says that her foray (初次尝试) into Chinese reality shows is driven by her love of Chinese culture and wish to“ show a possible bridge between French and Chinese cultures”. “I haven’t participated in reality shows back in France,” she says. “I accepted this invitation because it is a huge challenge, and because I want to learn more Chinese and learn to sing in Chinese.” Jonathan’s parents both have a love of Chinese culture, and her mother runs a travel agency that began promoting tours to China in the 1990s. She visited China with her mother for the first time when she was 10 and has since formed a lasting bond with the country. As a child, Johnathan was given her first scooter and guitar in Beijing. As she grew up, she was attracted to Chinese philosophies like Taoism and Confucianism. Since her first album (专辑) was released in 2010, she has translated several songs into Chinese and has returned to China regularly to perform. Jonathan already had a sizable following among Chinese students of French before the show, but broader Chinese audiences have since been pleased with her performance. “France and China have a lot in common,” she says, remarking on the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic (外交的) relations between China and France. “The 60- year friendship between China and France is just the beginning for a new wave of mutual (相互的) learning.” 4. She wants to build a bridge between French and Chinese cultures. 6. What can be inferred(推断)about Joyce Jonathan? A. Her parents have little interest in Chinese culture. B. She wins more popularity in China after the show. C. She got a bad impression of China when she was 10. D. She had her first-time performance in China in 2024. 7. Now, thanks to a great invention called Scrubba Wash Pack, that worry may be a thing of the past. The easy to take washing machine was invented by Ash Newland in 2010, while he was planning to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro. Struck by the limited packing space, he got inspiration from traditional washboards to create a bag that could be used to clean clothes. Then he quitted his career as a lawyer and focused on perfecting the bag’s design. By 2012, the bag was ready for the public. It weighed only 180 grams and required very little storage space, making it perfect for anyone wishing to travel light. Not surprisingly, the bag which was worth 55 dollars was an instant hit with travelers, university students and even passengers. However, Newland was not satisfied. He still saw a disadvantage of his invention — dirty clothes had to be carried around in a separate bag! The recently introduced Scrubba Wash Pack solves that problem. In order to make the pack active, dirty clothes are placed inside the bag along with two or three liters of water. The bag is then shut tightly to ensure all air is squeezed out and the clothes are massaged (按摩揉洗) for a few minutes. After a quick wash, they are clean and ready to be dried. According to Newland, the pack can clean anything from jeans to smelly socks! What’s even more amazing is that with a capacity (容量) to hold 13 liters of water, it can be used to wash more clothes at a time. The best part is that the 99 - dollar pack that will be available for sale later this year, only weighs 300 grams and is completely foldable, making it easy to store when it’s not in use. With the Scrubba Wash Pack, wandering through foreign cities searching for a washing shop, or paying for washing machines may soon be a thing of the past! 8. What led Ash Newland to create the Scrubba Wash Pack? A. His job requirements. B. His career as a lawyer. C. His interest in invention. D. His personal experience. 9. Why wasn’t Ash Newland satisfied with his former invention? A. Clothes couldn’t be washed well. B. An extra bag was required for dirty clothes. C. The bag was not beautiful and fashionable. D. The cost of invention was high. 10. It can be inferred that the improved Scrubba Wash Pack ________. A. turns out to be not environmentally friendly B. will replace the traditional washing machine C. will be widely used by more travelers in the future D. can encourage all people to travel a long distance 11. Which of the following is the best title? A. The Biggest Challenge of a Traveler B. A New Washing Bag for Hikers C. How Clothes Are Washed During a Hike D. The Washing Machine: A Thing of The Past 【答案】8. D 9. B 10. C 11. 根据第二段的“while he was planning to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro. Struck by the limited packing space, he got inspiration from traditional washboards to create a bag that could be used to clean clothes. .(当时他正计划攀登乞力马扎罗山。由于包装空间有限,他从传统的洗衣板中获得灵感,制作了一个可以用来清洗衣服的包)”可知,Ash Newland的个人经历使他决心发明一种轻便的大容量洗衣包。故选D。 【9题详解】 细节理解题。根据第三段的“He still saw a disadvantage of his invention—dirty clothes had to be carried around in a separate bag! (他仍然认为他的发明有一个缺点——脏衣服必须放在一个单独的袋子里随身携带)”可知,第一款洗衣包还需要用另一个背包来背脏衣服,这带来了许多不便。故选B。 【10题详解】 推理判断题。根据最后一段“The best part is that the 99-dollar pack that will be available for sale later this year, only weighs 300 grams and is completely foldable, making it easy to store when it’s not in use. With the Scrubba Wash Pack, wandering through foreign cities searching for a washing shop, or paying for washing machines may soon be a thing of the past!(最棒的是,这款99美元的包装将于今年晚些时候上市,重量只有300克,而且完全可折叠,不使用时很容易储存。有了Scrubba洗衣包,在外国城市闲逛寻找洗衣店,或购买洗衣机可能很快就会成为过去!)”推知,Scrubba洗衣包将会得到广大游客的青睐而被广泛使用。故选C。 【11题详解】 主旨大意题。通读全文,结合第一段“The biggest challenge faced by travelers, especially those who like to have a backpacking trip is how to ensure a steady(稳定的)supply of clean clothes. Now, thanks to a great invention called Scrubba Wash Pack, that worry may be a thing of the past.(旅行者,尤其是那些喜欢背包旅行的人,面临的最大挑战是如何确保干净衣服的稳定供应。现在,多亏了一种名为Scruba Wash Pack的伟大发明,这种担忧可能已经成为过去)”和下文介绍这款洗衣包的设计灵感、改进过程、使用方法和优势可知,本文旨在介绍一项伟大的发明——洗衣包。所以短文的标题为“一种新的徒步旅行者洗衣包”。故选B。 D It was extremely generous of the people of France to give the American people the Statue of Liberty, especially as the money was raised by donations from the public who recognized what the countries had in common. After all, both nations had fought revolutions to secure their nationhood. Nowadays, it seems as though the gift has been returned with interest with the foundation of Euro Disney near Paris. Nevertheless, many French people feel it symbolizes a kind of “cultural colonialism (殖民主义)”. To tell the truth, I would not welcome the presence of such a theme park in the middle of England, for the same reason. Mind you, neither England nor France have ever been afraid to export their own culture and values. Anyway, it is not difficult to understand why they chose to build Euro Disney near Paris. It is a geographically logical site, in the center of continental Europe, right by the capital city with its own attractions and so on. All the same, was it a culturally logical decision? There is the issue of “cultural colonialism” which I have already mentioned. What’s more, do the French need Mickey Mouse when they have their own cartoon hero in the form of the brave little Gaul, Asterix? Euro Disney’s rival the Parc Asterix has proved a popular destination for families wanting a day out. By the way, Parc Asterix is an easy drive from Paris too. Millions of dollars have been poured into Euro Disney to provide a top-class attraction but the thing is, can visitors expect an authentic American welcome? The answer must surely be “no”! There again, Euro Disney is a cheaper option for most Europeans than going all the way to the States. All in all I would rather create theme parks which celebrated my own heroes than accept those from elsewhere. In a word, this is because it is not always possible to transport culture — like some wines they do not travel well. In the future I will take my family to Florida to Disney World and the Magic Kingdom. However, until that day arrives we won’t be going to Euro Disney. There is a time and place for everything. 12. What is many French people’s attitude toward Euro Disney? A. They are unhappy with it. B. They show no interest in it. C. They warmly welcome it. D. They think it a reward for the Statue of Liberty. 13. Why did the Americans choose to build Euro Disney near Paris? A. It was a culturally logical decision. B. It symbolized the two countries’ friendship. C. There were no theme parks near Paris. D. The location had a geographical advantage. 14. What does the underlined word “rival” in paragraph 3 mean? A. Partner. B. Competitor. C. Neighbor. D. Customer. 15. Which of the following is the author’s opinion? A. Euro Disney can’t provide real American service. B. Parc Asterix is more expensive than Euro Disney. C. Theme parks should accept popular heroes. D. American culture isn’t popular around the world. A 13. D 14. B 15. 根据第二段中的“Nevertheless, many French people feel it symbolizes a kind of “cultural colonialism (殖民主义)”. (然而,许多法国人认为它象征着一种“文化殖民主义”。)”可知,许多法国人认为欧洲迪士尼是一种文化侵略,由此可知他们对此很不高兴。故选A。 根据第三段中的“Anyway, it is not difficult to understand why they chose to build Euro Disney near Paris. It is a geographically logical site, in the center of continental Europe, right by the capital city with its own attractions and so on. (无论如何,不难理解他们为什么选择在巴黎附近建造欧洲迪士尼。它是一个地理位置合理的地点,位于欧洲大陆的中心,紧邻首都,有自己的景点等。)”可知,欧洲迪士尼的地点离巴黎很近,地理位置优越。故选D。 【14题详解】 词句猜测题。根据第三段中划线词后的“the Parc Asterix has proved a popular destination for families wanting a day out (阿斯泰利克斯主题公园已被证明是想要出游的家庭的热门目的地。)” A. 根据第三段中的“Millions of dollars have been poured into Euro Disney to provide a top-class attraction but the thing is, can visitors expect an authentic American welcome? The answer must surely be “no”! (欧洲迪士尼投入了数百万美元以打造一个顶级的旅游景点,但问题是,游客能否期待得到真正的美国式欢迎呢?答案肯定是“不”!)”可知,游客在欧洲迪士尼乐园里无法享受真正的美国式服务。故选A。 How to Do Better in School The start of a new school year is a great opportunity to improve your grades and experience at school, but you can choose to do better at any point during the year! ___16___. I can still remember the first day when I met my best friend. Many families were finding it hard to pay for what they needed. Everyone was trying to help their neighbors. Mrs. Meredith was a very kind woman. She often visited poor families. She knew they had difficulties and needed help. When she could, she brought them food and medicine. One morning, she told her children about a family she had visited. There was a sick father in bed, a mother who cared for him and couldn’t work, and their young son, Bernard. Bernard had made a deep impression on her. “I wish you could see him,” she said to her children, John, Harry, and Clara. “He is such a good helper to his mother. He really wants to find a way to make some money, but I don’t know what he can do.” After their mother left, the children thought about Bernard. “I wish we could help him earn some money,” said Clara. “His family is having a very hard time.” “Me too,” said Harry. “We should really do something to help them.” John was quiet for a moment. Then, he suddenly stood up quickly and said, “I have a great idea! I know what we can do, and we can all help.” The other children immediately listened carefully. When John had an idea, it was always good. “Let me tell you the plan,” John said. “You know that big bag of corn Uncle John sent us? We can make popcorn (爆米花), put it into paper bags, and Bernard can go around the houses and sell it.” When Mrs. Meredith heard of John’s idea, she thought it was a good one, too. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ With everything ready, Bernard started out on his new business. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】参考范文: When Mrs. Meredith heard of John’s idea, she thought it a good one, too. With Mom’s approval, John got to prepare the oven and paper bags, Harry went to check the corn that Uncle John sent them, while Clara wasted no time in telling Bernard their plan, hoping he would accept their kindness. Having heard of their plan, Bernard’s blue eyes watered with happiness and gratitude. Very soon the three children, together with Bernard, were busy popping the corn, like little busy bees dancing in Mrs. Meredith’s kitchen. And it wasn’t long before their hard work paid off. With everything ready, Bernard started out on his new business. Much sooner than expected, he returned with all popcorn sold out. Never had he earned so much money before in his life. When he found that it was all to be his, he was so delighted that he could hardly speak, a bright smile dangling on his face. People began to do their bits for the “little popcorn boy”, and every week he had at least fifty cents to take home, sometimes even more. All this was because of John’s bright idea, and his determination to carry it out. 3.词汇激活: 行为类: ① 准备:prepare/get ready for ② 告知:tell/inform ③ 售卖:sell/market ④ 预料:expect/anticipate 情绪类: ① 开心:happiness/delight ② 感激:gratitude/thankfulness ③ 高兴的:delighted/joyful 【点睛】[高分句型1] Having heard of their plan, Bernard’s blue eyes watered with happiness and gratitude.(运用了现在分词的完成式作状语) [高分句型2] Never had he earned so much money before in his life.(运用了否定副词 Never置于句首的部分倒装) 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $ 咸阳市实验中学2025—2026学年度第一学期第一次质量检测 高一英语 注意事项: 1. How much is the shirt? B When Joyce Jonathan sang Les Champs- Elysees in both French and Chinese, many people in China learned a new word — chanson, a poetic and romantic type of music from France. Jonathan already had a sizable following among Chinese students of French before the show but broader Chinese audiences have since been pleased with her performance. “France and China have a lot in common,” she says, remarking on the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic (外交的) relations between China and France. “The 60- year friendship between China and France is just the beginning for a new wave of mutual (相互的) learning.” 4. What do we know about Ride the Wind 2024 music competition? A. It is open to participants of different genders. B. It focuses on celebrities under the age of 30. C. It refuses showbiz age stereotypes. D. It is unpopular with Chinese audiences. 5. Why did Jonathan decide to take part in the Chinese reality shows? A. She is curious about China since she hasn’t been China before. B. She is addicted to Chinese philosophies like Taoism and Confucianism. C. She has participated in reality shows back in France. D. She wants to build a bridge between French and Chinese cultures. 6. What can be inferred(推断)about Joyce Jonathan? A. Her parents have little interest in Chinese culture. B. She wins more popularity in China after the show. C. She got a bad impression of China when she was 10. D. She had her first-time performance in China in 2024. 7. What is Jonathan’s attitude towards relations between China and France? A. Positive. B. Doubtful. C. Unclear. D. Negative. C The biggest challenge faced by travelers, especially those who like to have a backpacking trip is how to ensure a steady (稳定的) supply of clean clothes. A Clothes couldn’t be washed well. How Clothes Are Washed During a Hike D The Washing Machine: A Thing of The Past D It was extremely generous of the people of France to give the American people the Statue of Liberty, especially as the money was raised by donations from the public who recognized what the countries had in common. How to Do Better in School The start of a new school year is a great opportunity to improve your grades and experience at school, but you can choose to do better at any point during the year! ___16___.
