The emoji: a face with what looks like a tear on one side. You may think it means: sad or upset. This face has sweat dripping from its brow, due to a stressful situation, rather than a tear falling from its eye.The “sad but relieved face” is easily confused with the crying emoji, as the drop of sweat on its cheek is difficult to distinguish from a tear. The emoji: two hands side by side with the palms facing outwards. You may think it means: whatever. If you ever use this emoji to show a lack of care, then you’re getting it wrong. It’s actually supposed to represent openness or even a hug. The emoji: a star at the end of a crescent (新月) of light. You may think it means: a shooting star. It's supposed to represent feeling dizzy after a person falls or is otherwise lacking a sense of direction. The emoji: a round face with steaming blowing from the nostrils (鼻孔) You may think it means: angry. The dissatisfied person you know probably bears some similarity to this face. However,it’s not meant to represent anger. It’s meant to appear “proud and overly confident” in an “I’m right and you’re wrong” kind of way. The emoji: a cheerful looking woman raising one outspread palm. You may think it means: a proud woman who forbids you to approach. The emoji actually belongs to the “information desk person” set of emojis. Rather than a badly-behaved attitude, she is showing that she is here to help. 1. What does a face with what looks like a tear on one side mean? A. It expresses sadness. B. It represents a tear falling from its eye. C. It means a cry. D. It shows a state caused by a stressful situation. 2. Which of the following statements is not true? A. Two hands side by side with the palms facing outwards means whatever. B. A star at the end of a crescent of light may mean feeling dizzy after falling. C. A round face with steaming blowing from the nostrils is used to express pride. D. A cheerful looking woman raising one outspread palm shows that she is ready to help. 3. The passage is useful to the person who . A. understands emojis well B. often uses emojis C. can’t use emojis D. likes emojis B Cats, like dogs, have been domesticated and generally thrive (茁壮成长) on human companionship. George is a 7-year-old white domestic shorthair (短毛猫) that once lived in a senior living facility, but when it closed down, he was taken to a local animal shelter, where he quickly became depressed. Finding a home for the sad cat wasn't going to be easy — his clear unhappiness, combined with his unusual appearance, was the reason for a long stay at the shelter. The staff in the shelter knew he needed a job, a job where he got to be the center of attention any time he walked into the room, so Alex and the others at the shelter searched for another senior care home to get George back to work. After senior living facilities found out the cat had years of previous experience that allowed him to avoid meow-orientation, a new staff training, they were waiting in line to add George to their staff. Eventually, the shelter chose Forest Hills Personal Care Home, and George has made himself at home. To no one’s surprise, he’s perfect at his job. “He’s a lap cat, he’s a cute cat, and he’s the kind of boy that’ll be very faithful to you and follow you around. He thrives on being with a lot of people,” Alex explains. The residents at the personal care home love him and give him all the attention he could ever possibly need. But once his shift is over, all the elderly residents are sound asleep and the night nurses are counting the minutes until they can finally rest, George begins his nightly adventures. He gets the late night zoomies (疯跑) to get some exercise before another long day of caring for his residents. Being a working cat isn’t always easy, but George manages it effortlessly. 4. What initially made it difficult for George to find a new home? A. He was beyond the suitable age for adoption. B. He was unwilling to interact with humans. C. He appeared low-spirited and had an uncommon look. D. He required professional medical attention. 5. What can we infer from paragraph 4? A. Meow-orientation is a very difficult training for new staff. B. George’s previous experience was not helpful at all. C. Senior living facilities valued George’s work experience. D. The shelter had a hard time choosing a care home for George. 6. What does George do at night to prepare for his next workday? A. He sleeps deeply with the elderly residents. B. He receives special meals from night nurses. C. He engages in energetic running exercises. D. He interacts with shelter staff. 7. What can be a suitable title for the text? A. The Lonely Shelter Dog B. A Working Cat Back on Duty C. Training Cats for Senior care D. An Animal Shelter Full of Love C Garbage is unavoidable in the restaurant business. Kitchen employees toss onion skins and meat fat into the wastebasket almost by instinct. The garbage then finds its way into black bags for trash-day pickup. Plastic bags are ordered by the bundle and then often thrown away. At the Brooklyn restaurant Rhodora, however, taking out the trash works a little differently. The new restaurant is one of a small number of places that have begun to operate under a zero-waste idea. It means they do not send any trash or food waste that enters their business to a landfill There is not even a traditional trash can in the restaurant. They have brought in tools to help cut down on waste. A paper cutter turns wine boxes into fertilizer. A dish washing setup changes salt into soap. Beeswax (蜂蜡) wrap takes the place of plastic wrap. The aim is to lessen the restaurant’s environmental impact while running a profitable business There’s a possible added benefit improving the eco-consciousness of its customers. “It’s not secret knowledge,” said Henry Rich, a co-owner of Rhodora. “It’s just a couple of things that are very specific. You need to kind of re-engineer how you think about operating a restaurant.” The paper menus feature a mini-essay on the restaurant’s green mission. They are fed to the compost pile when they get old or worn out. Anything left on a customer’s plate gets fed into the fertilizer. Natural wine bottles and most other containers are removed for recycling. Corks (软木塞) are also donated to a recycling program that reuses the material for shoe soles (鞋底) and yoga blocks (瑜伽垫). The first set of fertilizer will be used to fertilize the restaurant’s mini-gardens on top of the storage boxes outside of the restaurant, and possibly a rooftop farm somewhere else. Despite all these efforts to ensure its space is zero waste, the Rhodora system isn’t perfect. It hasn’t been determined, for example, what the answer is to disposing of a dishwasher beyond repair. “I don’t want to pretend we have everything figured out,” Mr. Rich said. 8. What is the purpose of the first paragraph? A. To criticize traditional restaurants’ waste. B. To ask how to solve restaurant waste. C. To describe common waste disposal before introducing a contrast. D. To emphasize plastic bags’ environmental impact. 9. We can learn from the article that Rhodora hopes to . A. reduce pressures of restaurants B. make zero-waste a mainstream concept C. change the model of running a restaurant D. strengthen eco-consciousness among people 10. What do we know about Rhodora’s handling of waste from the passage? A. Outdated paper menus are recycled into new menu sheets. B. Leftover food from customers is used to make fertilizer. C. Plastic wrap is reused after being cleaned properly. D. Broken dishwashers are currently disposed of in landfills. 11. What can be inferred from Mr. Rich’s words? A Rhodora’s zero-waste model is ultimately a failure. B. The restaurant avoids discussing its challenges publicly. C. Achieving absolute zero waste may face practical limitations. D. Customers are misled about the restaurant’s environmental efforts. D Childhood trauma can have long-lasting consequences that follow some people into adulthood. Based on previous research findings, scientists now suppose these childhood events can lead a person’s biological age to move quicker than their actual age, in a process called accelerated aging. Researchers have developed biomarkers for measuring accelerated aging. By measuring a patient’s biomarkers, researchers can calculate how much their age has been accelerated. This is called their phenotypic age Phenotypic age is different from a person’s actual, or chronological age, and is more helpful in predicting age-related health issues. By determining how “old” someone is from their biomarkers, doctors can better determine age-related diseases and more appropriate treatments and preventative measures for existing illnesses. In a recent study, scientists found childhood adversity (逆境) was associated with accelerated aging. They asked the participants to fill out forms recalling their experiences with childhood adversity, including neglect, abuse, and food insecurity. Scientists examined these factors to determine if childhood adversity affected a person’s phenotypic age or impacted their lifestyle choices. The scientists found participants who faced childhood adversity were more likely to engage in “coping behaviors”. These coping behaviors included reckless (鲁莽的) behavior, overeating, alcohol and drug use. These behaviors were also most commonly found in participants with accelerated aging. The scientists determined phenotypic aging was happening at a rate of 12% to 42% faster than chronological aging in those who had experienced any form of childhood adversity. The greater the difference between chronological age and phenotypic age, the more sensitive a person is to chronic (慢性的) illness, life threatening diseases, age-related illness, and premature death. The scientists suggested future research should explore how the severity of childhood trauma influences accelerated aging. They also suggested maintaining a healthy lifestyle could slow down phenotypic aging, so staying active, eating right, and seeking therapy could decrease the rate of accelerated aging in young people. 12. What does the underlined word “trauma” in Paragraph 1 probably mean? A. A harmful abuse of power. B. An unhealthy state of mind. C. An activity promoting maturity. D. A difficult or unpleasant situation. 13. What can we learn about phenotypic age? A. It is calculated based on one’s actual age. B. It is less effective than chronological age in health predictions. C. It helps doctors make better decisions on age-related illnesses. D. It remains unchanged regardless of one’s biomarkers. 14. What can be inferred about coping behaviors? A. They are rarely seen in people without childhood adversity. B. They may play a role in linking childhood adversity to accelerated aging. C. They have no connection with one’s phenotypic age. D. They can completely stop the process of accelerated aging. 15. What is the main idea of the passage? A. Slowing phenotypic aging via a healthy lifestyle. B. Differences between phenotypic and chronological age. C. The impact of childhood trauma on accelerated biological aging. D. Long-term mental health effects of childhood trauma on adults. Waking up at the crack of dawn and going for a run might feel frightening when you start trying to make it a habit.____16____ So, how much time is really needed to make that habit stick? One popular idea suggests that it takes 21 days to solidify a habit. A three- week time frame might sound easily reachable to someone making a resolution on NewYear’s Day, when people tend to feel extra motivated to start a new habit or kick an old one.____17____ One survey showed that only 9 percent of people actually stuck to their goals in 2023. ____18____ No matter how long it is for any individual, repetition is the key to making it work. Some experts suggest various individualized ways to reinforce healthy behaviors and to eventually turn a wholesome task into an unconscious habit. The origin of the “three-week theory” has nothing to do with habits. It apparently originated from the 1960 self-help book, in which plastic surgeon Maxwell Maltz observed that it took his patients about 21 days to get used to their new appearance after surgery.____19____ However, the book applied this 21-day timeline to self-transformation in many other wide-ranging aspects of life. For instance, the book also set three weeks as the time needed for people to get used to a new house or change their mind about their beliefs. Even without much solid research, the 21-day myth became widely accepted. It likely persisted because it seems like such a reasonable amount of time. For example, establishing a regular exercise habit in just three days seems too quick and unlikely, and a year seems too long.____20____ The researchers suggested that habit formation depends on the effort that a person puts into practicing an activity and on the presence of environmental cues that would remind them to carry out the behavior. A. No formal experiment was conducted to prove this. B. Everyone has a unique habit-building timeline. C. Acquiring a habit obviously takes determination and time. D. People might easily see 21 days as a realistic time frame. E. Yet every January 21 few people can achieve their resolutions. F. Habits are formed through a process known as habituation. G. Many people have applied the“21-day” time frame to all habits. My wife and I have gardened together for years, but the great birch tree challenge of 2024 put our ____21____ to the test. One day, David found four baby goslings (鹅). The babies were stuck on ice and had nowhere to go. Wrapping them in the warmth of his jacket, this kind man brought them home with him. He made them a comfortable nest and fed them with a specially prepared mixture, which contained all the nutrition they would have received in the wild. His gentle touch and soft voice became their comfort and his presence became a sign of safety in their small, new world. He took care of them like they were his children. David was aware that the little goslings would one day need to be released into the wild, so he started to prepare for their release. First, he sprayed (喷) water on the feathers of the goslings so that they would be strong enough to fly in case of attacks. Then, he selected a place for those goslings to live. There was a pond big enough for them to swim at the location. The spot had an inclined plane (斜面) for the birds to go in and out of the water comfortably. It was an open space where they could see danger from far away, giving them enough time to escape. The area was also rich in grass, providing them with a ready source of food. The departure day finally came. David transported the goslings in a cage and took them to the pond. After finding a tern (燕鸥) flying in the area, David was sure that it was a perfect spot for his goslings. Terns, being fish-eaters, indicated a healthy ecosystem, which would be beneficial to the goslings. Most importantly, the best part was that the pond was not far from his house. This allowed David to keep a watchful eye on the goslings during their initial days of independent life. David did not know how the birds would act when they were released. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ The next day, David returned to check on the goslings. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $ 2025年秋期六校第一次联考 高二年级英语试题 (考试时间:120分钟 试卷满分:150分) 注意事项: 1. How much is the shirt? C He appeared low-spirited and had an uncommon look. An Animal Shelter Full of Love 【答案】4. C 5. C 6. C 7. 根据第一段“Finding a home for the sad cat wasn’t going to be easy — his clear unhappiness, combined with his unusual appearance, was the reason for a long stay at the shelter. (给这只悲伤的猫找个家并不容易 —— 它明显的不开心,再加上它特别的外表,是它在收容所长时间待着的原因。)”可知,乔治最初难以找到新家是因为它情绪低落且外表特别。故选C项。 【5题详解】 推理判断题。根据第三段“After senior living facilities found out the cat had years of previous experience that allowed him to avoid meow-orientation, a new staff training, they were waiting in line to add George to their staff. (当老年护理机构得知这只猫有多年工作经验,能让它免却“喵喵叫”(一项新员工培训)后,他们都排着队想让乔治加入自己的员工团队。)”可知,老年护理机构看重乔治的工作经验,因此争相邀请它。故选C项。 【6题详解】 细节理解题。根据第五段“He gets the late night zoomies (疯跑) to get some exercise before another long day of caring for his residents. (在又一个照顾住户的漫长日子到来前,它会在深夜疯跑,以锻炼身体。)”可知,乔治晚上通过精力充沛的奔跑来为第二天工作做准备。故选C项。 【7题详解】 主旨大意题。通读全文特别是第二段“The staff in the shelter knew he needed a job, a job where he got to be the center of attention any time he walked into the room, so Alex and the others at the shelter searched for another senior care home to get George back to work.(收容所的工作人员知道它需要一份工作,一份它每次走进房间都会成为关注焦点的工作,所以亚历克斯和收容所的其他人寻找另一家养老院,让乔治重返工作岗位。)” A Working Cat Back on Duty(一只工作猫重返岗位)符合语境。故选B项。 C Garbage is unavoidable in the restaurant business. The aim is to lessen the restaurant’s environmental impact while running a profitable business. There’s a possible added benefit improving the eco-consciousness of its customers. A. Rhodora’s zero-waste model is ultimately a failure. B. The restaurant avoids discussing its challenges publicly. C Achieving absolute zero waste may face practical limitations. D. Customers are misled about the restaurant’s environmental efforts. C 9. D 10. B 11. 根据第一段“Kitchen employees toss onion skins and meat fat into the wastebasket almost by instinct. The garbage then finds its way into black bags for trash-day pickup.(厨房员工几乎是本能地把洋葱皮和肉油扔进废纸篓。然后,这些垃圾会被装入黑色的垃圾袋,供垃圾日回收。)”和第二段“At the Brooklyn restaurant Rhodora, however, taking out the trash works a little differently.(然而,在布鲁克林的Rhodora餐厅,倒垃圾的方式有点不同。)” 根据第三段“The aim is to lessen the restaurant’s environmental impact while running a profitable business. There’s a possible added benefit improving the eco-consciousness of its customers.(其目的是在经营盈利业务的同时减少餐厅对环境的影响。提高消费者的环保意识可能还有一个额外的好处。)”可知,Rhodora希望增强全民生态意识。故选D。 【10题详解】 细节理解题。根据第五段“Anything left on a customer’s plate gets fed into the fertilizer.(顾客盘子里剩下的任何东西都会被放入肥料中。)” 根据最后一段“I don’t want to pretend we have everything figured out(我不想假装我们已经解决了所有问题)”可知,从Rich的话中可以推断出实现绝对零浪费可能面临实际限制。故选C。 D Childhood trauma can have long-lasting consequences that follow some people into adulthood. Based on previous research findings scientists now suppose these childhood events can lead a person’s biological age to move quicker than their actual age, in a process called accelerated aging. D 13. C 14. B 15. 根据第三段“They asked the participants to fill out forms recalling their experiences with childhood adversity, including neglect, abuse, and food insecurity.(他们要求参与者填写表格,回忆他们童年的逆境经历,包括忽视、虐待和食物不安全。)” 根据第二段“Phenotypic age is different from a person’s actual, or chronological age, and is more helpful in predicting age-related health issues. By determining how “old” someone is from their biomarkers, doctors can better determine age-related diseases and more appropriate treatments and preventative measures for existing illnesses.(表型年龄不同于一个人的实际年龄或实足年龄,在预测与年龄相关的健康问题方面更有帮助。通过生物标记物确定某人的“年龄”,医生可以更好地确定与年龄相关的疾病,并对现有疾病采取更适当的治疗和预防措施。)”可知,表型年龄可以帮助医生对与年龄有关的疾病做出更好的决定。故选C。 【14题详解】 推理判断题。根据倒数第三段“The scientists found participants who faced childhood adversity were more likely to engage in “coping behaviors”. These coping behaviors included reckless (鲁莽的) behavior, overeating, alcohol and drug use. These behaviors were also most commonly found in participants with accelerated aging.(科学家们发现,童年经历过逆境的参与者更有可能采取“应对行为”。这些应对行为包括鲁莽行为、暴饮暴食、酗酒和吸毒。这些行为在加速衰老的参与者中也最常见。)”可知,应对行为可能在童年的逆境与加速衰老之间起作用。故选B。 【15题详解】 主旨大意题。通读全文,尤其是第一段“Childhood trauma can have long-lasting consequences that follow some people into adulthood. Based on previous research findings, scientists now suppose these childhood events can lead a person’s biological age to move quicker than their actual age, in a process called accelerated aging.(童年创伤会对一些人的成年生活产生长期的影响。 Waking up at the crack of dawn and going for a run might feel frightening when you start trying to make it a habit.____16____ So, how much time is really needed to make that habit stick? C 17. E 18. B 19. A 20. 【16题详解】 由上文“Waking up at the crack of dawn and going for a run might feel frightening when you start trying to make it a habit.(当你开始尝试把黎明即起去跑步变成习惯时,这可能会让人却步。)” 和下文“So, how much time is really needed to make that habit stick?(那么,真正需要多长时间才能让这个习惯固定下来呢?)” C项“Acquiring a habit obviously takes determination and time.(养成一个习惯显然需要决心和时间。)”符合语境,“Acquiring a habit”承接前文“make it a habit”,“takes determination and time”引出下文对“所需时间”的疑问,承上启下。故选C项。 【17题详解】 由上文“A three-week time frame might sound easily reachable to someone making a resolution on NewYear’s Day, when people tend to feel extra motivated to start a new habit or kick an old one.(对于在元旦制定决心的人来说,三周的时间框架听起来很容易实现,因为人们往往会感到更有动力开始一个新习惯或戒掉一个旧习惯。)”和下文“One survey showed that only 9 percent of people actually stuck to their goals in 2023.(一项调查显示,2023年只有9%的人真正坚持了自己的目标。)” E项“Yet every January 21 few people can achieve their resolutions.(然而,每年1月21日(三周后),很少有人能实现自己的决心。)”符合语境,“Yet”表转折,“January 21”对应 “three-week time frame”,“few people can achieve”呼应下文“only 9 percent stuck to their goals”,逻辑连贯。故选E项。 【18题详解】 由下文“No matter how long it is for any individual, repetition is the key to making it work.(无论对个人来说需要多长时间,重复都是成功的关键。)” B项“Everyone has a unique habit-building timeline.(每个人都有独特的习惯养成时间线。)”符合语境,“unique habit-building timeline”与下文“how long it is for any individual”直接呼应,引出“重复是关键”的共性原则,衔接自然。故选B项。 【19题详解】 由上文“It apparently originated from the 1960 self-help book, in which plastic surgeon Maxwell Maltz observed that it took his patients about 21 days to get used to their new appearance after surgery.(它显然源自1960年的一本自助书籍,整形外科医生麦克斯韦・马尔茨在书中观察到,他的病人术后大约需要21天才能适应新的外貌。)”和下文“However, the book applied this 21-day timeline to self-transformation in many other aspects.(然而,这本书将 21 天的时间线应用到了生活中许多其他方面的自我转变上。)” A项“No formal experiment was conducted to prove this.(没有进行正式实验来证明这一点。)” 故选A项。 【20题详解】 由上文“For example, establishing a regular exercise habit in just three days seems too quick and unlikely, and a year seems too long.(例如,三天内养成规律锻炼的习惯似乎太快且不现实,一年又似乎太长。)” D项“People might easily see 21 days as a realistic time frame.(人们可能很容易将21天视为一个现实的时间框架。)”符合语境,“21 days as a realistic time frame”承接前文“三天太快、一年太长”,解释了“21 天理论被广泛接受”的原因,与上文“it seems like such a reasonable amount of time”呼应。 My wife and I have gardened together for years but the great birch tree challenge of 2024 put our ____21____ to the test. David was a bird rescue expert and gained a lot of attention because of his surprising animal and bird hatching adventures. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】 David did not know how the birds would act when they were released. As he opened the cage, the goslings hesitated, huddling close to his legs instead of rushing to the pond. Their tiny eyes darted nervously at the unfamiliar surroundings. David softly encouraged them, kneeling to gently nudge them forward. Slowly, one bravest gosling waddled toward the water, followed cautiously by the others. They dipped their beaks, then splashed in joy, their anxious chirps turning into excited quacks. David smiled, relieved, as they swam together in a neat line, exploring their new home with growing confidence. The next day, David returned to check on the goslings. From a distance, he spotted them grazing peacefully on the grassy bank. As he approached, they recognized him instantly, flapping their wings and scurrying toward him with happy chirps. David observed their feathers—now glossy and strong—and watched them dive skillfully for aquatic plants. Nearby, a tern circled overhead, confirming the area’s safety. Though independent, the goslings still greeted him like family. With a heart full of pride, David knew his feathered friends had truly adapted to the wild. 词汇激活 行为类 ①打开:open/unfold ②鼓舞:encourage/motivate/inspire ③看见:spot/see 情绪类 ①焦虑地:nervously/anxiously ②高兴的:happy/merry/glad 【点睛】[高分句型1] As he opened the cage, the goslings hesitated, huddling close to his legs instead of rushing to the pond.
