19. What should an active listener do?
A. Record all materials. B. Write down new words. C. Do group practicing.
20. What is the speaker’s last suggestion?
A. Visit a website. B. Practice listening after class. C. Do exercises in the textbook.
【答案】18. B 19. B 20. A
【解析】
【原文】M: OK. Good morning, everyone. Now I’m going to talk about technology and learning. First of all, let’s talk about the Internet. There are several ways you can use to improve your English. You can read, listen and write.
Firstly, writing practice is good for your learning. On the Internet there are two places where you can write — message boards and live chat rooms. Live chat rooms are great for improving your fluency, because you have to write quickly. People don’t want to wait too long to hear your response. A message board is good for both fluency and accuracy because you can think and prepare before you write.
Also, the Internet is a good place to practice your listening. The Internet may be better than the radio as you can listen again and again. You should visit a good news site, such as the BBC. BBC radio is an incredible resource. The ability to listen repeatedly, and to pause, allows you to put into practice the advice I gave in the reading and listening skills section. In order to improve your listening, you have to be an active listener, make notes, try to write down the main points and new vocabulary.
Finally, visit the website for the textbook. There are extra practice exercises and reading materials. It also offers learners special message boards. OK. That’s all for today. Thank you for listening.

Very little is known of Emily Elizabeth Dickinson as the American poet always kept to herself and lived a life of solitude(隐居). She was born on 10th December 1830 at Amherst, Massachusetts to Edward and Emily Norcross Dickinson. She had an older brother, Austin, and younger sister named Lavinia.
From 1834 to 1847, Emily Dickinson studied at the Amherst Academy, an academic institution that was co-founded by her grandfather, Samuel Fowler Dickinson. In 1847, she studied at the Hadley Female Seminary (now known as Mount Holyoke College) but returned to Amherst only after a year, and began her own unique life. After returning from the Seminary, Emily withdrew from all social contact and refused to entertain guests. She chose to dress herself only in white and spent most of her time inside her room. She started writing poems at around this time. Her initial forays(最初的尝试) were conventional(有争议的) but later on, she experimented until she developed her own unique style.
The 1860s contributed greatly to Emily Dickinson’s writing style and content. The US Civil War broke out in 1861; her closest friends Samuel Bowles moved to Europe for health reasons, and Charles Wadsworth was relocated to San Francisco. In addition, she also had a persistent eye trouble. Although these years were very troublesome for Dickinson, this could also be considered as the most productive period of her life. During this time, Emily Dickinson wrote around 800 poems.
Emily Dickinson never married and died on May 15, 1886. Her poems were published by her sister, Lavinia in 1886. During her life, only seven poems were published, but Emily Dickinson has penned almost 2,000 poems.
24. What happened to Emily in 1848?
A. She studied at the Amherst Academy.
B. She went to the Hadley Female Seminary.

D. She began her life of solitude.
25. What can we infer from the third paragraph?
A. Emily’s writing was disturbed by the US Civil War.
B. Two of her closest friends deserted her in 1861.
C. Charles Wadsworth once lived in San Francisco.
D. Emily developed her own unique style.
26. When were most of Emily’s poems published?
A. After her death in 1886.
B. During the US Civil War.
C. During her university time.

Doctors at the University of California, San Francisco, in the US, have developed a piece of software that can read minds. The project, supported by Facebook, hopes to help people who, because of medical conditions, are unable to communicate with others.
Until now, technologies that have helped speech-impaired (语言障碍) people communicate have been too slow to allow a natural conversation. People find these things upsetting to use. This new way uses brain signals to change a person’s thoughts into text. When we want to speak, the brain sends signals to make the lips, jaw and tongue move in the right way to make an understandable sound. By discovering these brain signals, the new software is able to predict what a person want to say quickly enough to hold a conversation.
The brain-reading software was tested on three volunteers who could all speak like healthy people. They were being treated for epilepsy (癫痫). As part of their treatment for epilepsy, each patient had electrodes(电极) placed on to their brain. Edward Chang, whole d the study, used these electrodes to record the signals in the patients’ brains while they listened to a list of questions and answered them.
Chang and his team then built a computer program that learned to match the patients’ brain signals to the words the patients heard and the words the patients spoke. For the questions, the software matched the correct words 76%of the time. For the answers, it matched the correct words 61%of the time.
Now, the mind-reading software works only for the limited set of sentences on which it was trained. Scientists hope that this early system will help them develop a more powerful one that could understand thoughts in real time to give people their voices back. Chang said, “We as scientists should try our best to help people to bring that most important and basic human ability back.”
28. What is the disadvantage of previous technologies?
A. They couldn’t read people’s minds correctly.
B. They couldn’t make communication understandable.
C. They couldn’t serve the purpose of natural conversation.
D. They couldn’t let medical conditions change for the better.
29. How does the software help people?
A. By changing people’s mind into text. B. By sending signals to their lips.
C. By organizing conversations for them. D. By training them how to speak.
30. What can we know about the mind-reading software according to the last paragraph?
A. It has been used on a wide scale.
B. It has restored the basic human ability.
C. It still has plenty of room for improvement.
D. It has enhanced human real-time conversation.
31. What is the attitude of the author towards the mind-reading software?
A. Favorable. B. Objective.
C. Intolerant. D. Doubtful.
【答案】28. C 29. A 30. C 31. B

“Instagram (a social networking app) will cut out many users’ accounts on December 20. To protect your account, repost this warning #KeepMyAccountSafe.” Every few months, it happens again — dozens of annoying posts from my kids’ friends suddenly start to appear on my Instagram news feed.
According to a new study by Stanford University, most kids don’t know what news is false. Researchers asked more than 7,800 middle school and high school students to complete 56 tasks, like distinguishing an advertisement from a real news story on a website and determining which blog in a series was most reliable. They found that students judged the credibility of blogs based not on the source of the material, but on how much detail they contained, or whether a large photo was attached.
“Many people assume that because young people are fluent in social media, they can distinguish fake news, but our work shows the opposite to be true,” wrote the lead study author Sam Wineburg, a professor at Stanford’s Graduate School of Education.
Both Google and Facebook are now taking steps to prevent misleading news from making its way on their platforms, but they won’t be able to eliminate it completely. That is why it’s now more important than ever to teach our kids to think critically when it comes to believing various information sources.
“In the coming months, we look forward to sharing our assessments and working with educators to create materials that will guide young people in the sea of disinformation they encounter online,” said Wineburg.
32. How does the author introduce the topic of the passage?
A. By stating opinions. B. By citing sayings.
C. By quoting a post. D. By showing findings.
33. According to researchers, what determines the credibility of online information?
A. The size of relevant photos B. The popularity of the website.
C. The amount of detail. D. The source of the material.
34. What does the underlined word “eliminate” mean in Paragraph 4?
A. Update. B. Remove. C. Estimate. D. Digest.
35. Which of the following can be the best title for the passage?
A. Stronger Together: The Internet Changes Our Life
B. Reliable News Has No Place on Social Media
C. Be Careful: Kids Are Bad at Identifying Fake News
D. Educators Have a Long Way to Go to Guide the Young.
【答案】32. B 33. D 34. B 35. C
根据第一段“‘Instagram (a social networking app) will cut out many users’ accounts on December 20. To protect your account, repost this warning #KeepMyAccountSafe.’ Every few months, it happens again — dozens of annoying posts from my kids’ friends suddenly start to appear on my Instagram news feed. (“社交网络应用Instagram将于12月20日关闭许多用户的账户。为了保护您的账户,请转发此警告#KeepMyAccountSafe。” 每隔几个月,这种事情就会再次发生——来自孩子的朋友们的几十条烦人帖子会出现在我的Instagram动态中)”可推知,在第一段中作者通过引用自己Instagram动态中出现的一些说法来引入文章的主题。故选B。
【33题详解】
推理判断题。根据第二段中“According to a new study by Stanford University, most kids don’t know what news is false.(根据斯坦福大学的一项新研究,大多数孩子不知道什么新闻是假的)”和“They found that students judged the credibility of blogs based not on the source of the material, but on how much detail they contained, or whether a large photo was attached.(他们发现,学生们判断博客的可信度不是基于材料的来源,而是基于它们包含多少细节,或者是否附有一张大照片)”可知,研究人员认为,大多数孩子不知道什么新闻是假的,是因为他们判断博客的可信度不是基于材料的来源,由此推知,决定网络信息可信度的是材料的来源。故选D。
【34题详解】
词句猜测题。根据画线词所在句“Both Google and Facebook are now taking steps to control misleading news from making its way on their platforms, but they won’t be able to eliminate it completely. (谷歌和Facebook现在都在采取措施控制误导新闻在他们的平台上传播,但他们不可能完全eliminate它) ”中but可知,上下文有转折,虽然谷歌和Facebook在采取措施控制误导新闻的传播,但不可能完全消除这些新闻。画线词eliminate意思为“消除”,与remove意思相近。故选B。
【35题详解】
主旨大意题。通读全文,结合第二段中“According to a new study by Stanford University, most kids don’t know what news is fake.(根据斯坦福大学的一项新研究,大多数孩子不知道什么新闻是假的)”可知,文章介绍了斯坦福大学的研究发现,大多数孩子不知道什么新闻是假的,并分析了原因,给出了建议。由此推知,B选项“小心:孩子们不擅长识别假新闻”是文章最佳标题。故选C。

【解析】
【导语】本文是说明文。主题语境是人与社会。文章介绍了如何改善肢体语言,以提高沟通效果。
【36题详解】
根据上文“Body language refers to the nonverbal (非语言的) signals that people use to communicate.(肢体语言是指人们用来交流的非语言信号)”可知,E 项“它们包括诸如手势、语调、眼神交流等”承接上文,解释了肢体语言包括的非语言信号,与上文“Body language refers to the nonverbal (非语言的) signals…”对应。故选E。
【37题详解】
上文“Shoulders that are too high can make you look nervous.(太高的肩膀会让你看起来很紧张)”提到,太高的肩膀会让你看起来很紧张,下文“Be aware of where they are currently sitting and allow them to drop to a natural position.(意识到他们现在坐的位置,让他们降到一个自然的位置)”提到让肩膀置于一个自然的位置,F项“同样,下垂的肩膀会给人一种你很悲伤的印象”符合语境,与上文并列,都说明正确放置肩膀的重要性。故选F。
【38题详解】
根据本段主题句“Smile(微笑)”以及上文“Be aware of your facial expressions throughout the course of the conversation, as an expressionless face can often appear as an angry expression.(在整个谈话过程中要注意你的面部表情,因为毫无表情的脸通常会被认为是愤怒的表情)”可知,本段主要是关于微笑,G 项“嘴角微微上翘可以让你看起来平静愉快”符合语境,G项中的“Turning up the corners of your mouth”指微笑,与本段主旨一致,且与上文“an expressionless face can often appear as an angry expression”形成对比,说明微笑在交流中的重要作用。此处没有转折的意思,且前文提及在适当的时候微笑,A项范围过大,因此A项放在此处不合适。故选G。
【39题详解】
上文“It’s important to make eye contact with the person you’ re speaking to.(和你说话的人进行眼神交流是很重要的)”提到眼神交流很重要,结合下文“A simple strategy to ensure you’ re maintaining the right amount of eye contact is to look into the person’s eyes long enough to take note of their eye color before looking away.(确保你保持适当目光接触的一个简单策略是,在目光移开之前,盯着对方的眼睛看足够长的时间,注意他们眼睛的颜色)”提到如何保持适当的眼神交流,故B项“然而,重要的是要避免制作太多”符合语境,语上文形成转折关系,B项中“avoid making too much”与下文“maintaining the right amount of eye contact”一致,强调眼神交流要有度。故选B。
【40题详解】
根据下文“Also, it makes them know that you agree with or are interested in the message they’re sharing, which can help to increase their confidence.(而且,这会让他们知道你同意或对他们分享的信息感兴趣,这有助于增加他们的信心)”可知,D 项“这是鼓励他们继续说下去的好方法”符合语境,与下文并列,说明点头的重要性。故选D。

第二节(满分25分)
67. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Johnson lived alone in a small town, Salem. Once he suffered a minor stroke (中风). He didn't usually go outside of his home unless it was to get his favorite food: pizza. He only ordered from Domino’s Pizza, and due to him frequently ordering, the staff was well familiar with his name.
Although Johnson was a loyal customer, the staff had never heard his voice or seen is face. It was only the delivery drivers who caught a glance of the man. Many neighbors went on to say that he just liked to keep to himself.
The manager of Johnson’s local Domino’s Pizza, Mary, said that he was always so polite to the delivery staff. Throughout the seven years of him placing orders at and supporting the particular Domino’s store, there had never been a problem.
And so none of the employees at Johnson's local Domino’s seemed to notice anything unusual the first couple of days. However, this quickly changed when Mary realized that they hadn't had an order from Johnson in a while. Johnson was considered to be one of the branch's most loyal customers. It was unusual that Johnson hadn't ordered anything for more than 12 days. They felt something might be off. A member of the staff, Tom, was sent to Johnson’s house to see if they could notice anything unusual.
As Tom approached Johnson’s house, he was relieved to see that the lights were on. Johnson wasn't answering the door, even though the lights and TV were on in his room. Tom decided to knock once again and called him on his phone, but there was no answer. There was a horrible feeling in the pit of his stomach. Tom decided to call the police. After hearing the situation, the police arrived quickly. They knocked on the door just as Tom had, but there was no answer once again. Just then one of the officers heard a faint voice coming from inside of the home.
注意:
1. 续写词数应为150词左右;
2. 请按照如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
The voice was calling out for help.
__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
In the hospital, Johnson was getting better after the stroke.
__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】One possible version:
The voice was calling out for help. That was when the officers acted quickly to break down the door and come to the rescue. The ambulance was called and arrived only minutes later. Doctors said that Johnson needed immediate medical attention after their initial assessment. So Johnson was rushed to the hospital, where he was diagnosed with a minor stroke. Nobody knew how long Johnson had sustained the stroke. However, one thing was for sure. He was in an extremely critical condition.
In the hospital, Johnson was getting better after the stroke. On hearing the good news, Mary and Tom went to the hospital with flowers and a card for Johnson. They thought it was important for Johnson to be loved by others. Although Johnson had trouble speaking, he expressed his sincere gratitude to them. Obviously, it was his eating habit and preference for pizza that saved his life. Maybe a good excuse for eating pizza every day is that it could prove to save your life one day. /Obviously, it was Mary’s consideration that saved his life. Genuine concern for others can not only spread love, but also save someone's life.

Doctors at the University of California San Francisco, in the US, have developed a piece of software that can read minds.
A. Favorable. B. Objective.
C. Intolerant. D. Doubtful.
