B I never knew anyone who’d grown up in Jackson without being afraid of Mrs. Calloway, our librarian. She ran Jackson’s Carnegie Library absolutely by herself. SILENCE in big black letters was on signs hung everywhere. If she thought you were dressed improperly, she sent you straight back home to change your clothes. I was willing; I would do anything to read. My mother was not afraid of Mrs. Calloway. She wished me to have my own library card to check out books for myself. She took me in to introduce me. “Eudora is nine years old and has my permission to read any book she wants from the shelves, children or adults,” Mother said. Mrs. Calloway made her own rules about books. You could not take back a book to the library on the same day you’d taken it out; it made no difference to her that you’d read every word in it and needed another to start. You could take out two books at a time and two only. So two by two, I read library books as fast as I could go, rushing them home in the basket of my bicycle. From the minute I reached our house, I started to read. I knew this was extreme happiness, knew it at the time. My mother shared this feeling of mine. Now, I think of her as reading so much of the time while doing something else. I remember her reading a magazine while taking the part of the Wolf in a game of “Little Red Riding Hood” with my brother’s two daughters. She’d just look up at the right time, long enough to answer—in character—“The better to eat you with, my dear,”and go back to her place in the magazine article. 24. What do the underlined words “this feeling” refer to in the last paragraph? A. Desire to read. B. Love for Mrs. Calloway. C. Interest in games. D. Fear of the library rules. 25. Where is the text probably from? A. A guidebook. B. An autobiography. C. A news report. D. A book review. 26. What can be inferred about the narrator’s reading habits from the text? A. She preferred children’s books to adult books. B She relied on her mother to select books for her. C. She read intensively to maximize her access to books. D. She often returned books on the same day she borrowed them. 27. How does the author’s description of her mother’s reading behavior contribute to the text? A. It highlights a generational difference in reading preferences. B. It suggests that her mother neglected family responsibilities. C. It implies that her mother disapproved of Mrs. Calloway’s rules. D. It reinforces the idea that reading was a natural and integrated part of their lives. C Artificial intelligence is about to take on one of the most important jobs in all of sports: the baseball umpire (裁判员). This summer, teams in the AAA league will use modern technology to call “balls” and “strikes” on batters. Human umpires will still stand behind the plate, but a voice in their earpieces will tell them to shout out“ball”or “strike’’—as determined by a system known as Automated Ball-Strike (ABS). ABS will even calculate different-sized strike zones for tall or short players, just as human umpires must do. Human umps will be able to override (推翻) the ABS if they feel it made a mistake. And they will continue to do other things umps do, like call an out made on the base paths (在垒上出局), separate angry opposing players to prevent fights, and of course dust off home plate. For well over a century, umpires have stood as one of the most human elements of baseball. How they make calls can affect the outcome of a game. They unavoidably have human failings. But how they see things, whether right or wrong in the view of any individual fan, is how it will go down. They are the boss. In the end, it’s a human being who is running a game being played by other humans. More and more, technology is invading (人侵) sports. Data is being used more thoroughly to assess the value of individual players. Statistics advise managers on what decisions to make, such as which players to use and when. Yet sometimes a special joy can well up in a fan when a player defies the odds and succeeds when the data says it shouldn’t happen. In cases where the use of technology can make a sports competition fairer to teams, players, and their fans, by reducing the number of “bad calls”, it can be a benefit to sports. Robot referees could also help solve shortages of volunteer referees at the amateur level, in sports such as soccer. A game might be run by a single official aided by technology that does parts of the job such as calling balls in or out of bounds. 28. When will human umpires use their right to refuse the ABS? A. When they think the ABS makes a wrong decision. B. When they separate angry opposing players. C. When they call balls in or out of bounds. D. When they dust off home plate. 29. What’s the author’s attitude to human umpires according to paragraph 4? A. Agreeable. B. Respectful. C. Worried. D. Unfriendly. 30. What do the underlined words “defies the odds” in paragraph 5 mean? A. Breaks the law. B. Gets over the difficulties. C. Teams up with his players. D. Gets injured. 31. What’s the main idea of the last paragraph? A. The importance of fair play. B. The shortages of volunteer referees. C. The advantages of using robots as referees. D. The application of modern technology in sports. D 【原创试题】An Oxford philosophy professor who has studied existential threats ranging from nuclear war to superbugs says the biggest danger of all may be superintelligence. Superintelligence is any intellect that outperforms human intellect in every field, and Nick Bostrom thinks its most likely form will be a machine—artificial intelligence. There are two ways artificial intelligence could go, Bostrom argues. It could greatly improve our lives and solve the world’s problems, such as disease, hunger and even pain. Or, it could take over and possibly kill all or many humans. As it stands, the catastrophic situation is more likely, according to Bostrom, who has a background in physics, computational neuroscience and mathematical logic. “Superintelligence could become extremely powerful and be able to shape the future according to its preferences,” Bostrom told me. “If humanity was able to think normally and had our act together globally, the sensible course of action would be to postpone development of superintelligence until we figure out how to do so safely.” Bostrom, the founding director of Oxford’s Future of Humanity Institute, lays out his concerns in his new book, Superintelligence: Paths, Dangers, Strategies. His book makes a similar comparison between the fate of horses and humans: Horses were initially complemented by carriages and ploughs, which greatly increased the horse’s productivity. Later, horses were substituted for by automobiles and tractors. When horses became old-fashioned as a source of labor, many were sold off to meatpackers to be processed into dog food, bone meal, leather, and glue. In the United States, there were about 26 million horses in 1915. By the early 1950s, 2 million remained. The same dark outcome, Bostrom said, could happen to humans once AI makes our labor and intelligence out of date. It sounds like a science fiction movie, but recent moves in the tech world may suggest otherwise. Earlier this year, Google acquired artificial intelligence company DeepMind and created an AI safety and ethics review board to ensure the technology is developed safely. Facebook created an artificial intelligence lab this year and is working on creating an artificial brain. Technology called “deep learning,” a form of artificial intelligence meant to closely mimic (模仿) the human brain, has quickly spread from Google to Microsoft, Baidu and Twitter. In an interview about his book Bostrom points out that there are few people working full time on AI control problem. They need more brilliant brains to this technical work. His hope is that his book will do something to encourage that. “How to control superintelligent AI is really the most important task of our time—yet, it is almost completely ignored.” says Bostrom. (438 words) 32. What is the main purpose of the paragraph that discusses the example of horses? A. To show how technology has always benefited animals. B. To illustrate a potential negative outcome for humanity if AI becomes superintelligent. C. To argue that horses should have been treated more equally. D. To explain the historical development of transportation and agriculture. 33. What can be inferred from the recent moves of companies like Google and Facebook? A. They are actively trying to create a superintelligence that will harm humans. B. They have successfully solved the safety problems associated with AI. C. The development of advanced AI is already a reality in the tech industry. D. They have stopped all AI research due to the potential dangers. 34. What is the author’s overall attitude towards the topic of superintelligent AI? A. Highly optimistic and enthusiastic. B. Unconventional and dismissive. C. Distant and purely informative. D. Concerned and cautionary. 35. Which of the following statements best reflects a critical perspective on Bostrom’s argument? A. His comparison between humans and horses is perfectly accurate and cannot be challenged. B. His background in various fields makes him the only person qualified to speak on this topic. C. His warning might be valid, but it overlooks humanity’s ability to adapt and regulate new technologies. D. His book has successfully convinced all tech companies to immediately stop AI development. 第二节(共5小题:每小题2. 5分, 满分12. 5分) 阅读下面短文, 从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 【原创试题】Over the last ten years, technology has completely changed the fitness landscape. 36 Different from it, now, with the rise of new technology, the way we exercise has become more varied and accessible. Smartwatches, virtual workouts, and Al personal trainers have all made it easier to stay active and monitor our progress. The fitness world has already changed dramatically, and in the future, it will only get better. How Fitness Evolved In the past, tracking your fitness was much more difficult. People used basic tools like pedometers to count their steps, but they didn’t give much information about health. 37 These devices have improved, and now, they can track not only your steps but also your heart rate, calories burned, and even sleep patterns. This technology has made people more aware of their health and fitness levels. 38 In the past, if you wanted to work out, you had to go to a gym or join a class. Now, you can join virtual fitness classes from home. Platforms like Peloton and YouTube have made it possible to do a wide variety of workouts from anywhere. This has made exercise more convenient for people with busy schedules. It's also cheaper because you don’t need a gym membership or expensive equipment to stay fit. Predictions for the Future 39 In the near future, experts will spare no effort to make Al-driven fitness become even more common. Al personal trainers have already started to replace real trainers for some people. These virtual trainers can create personalized workout plans and give advice based on your progress. They have improved the accessibility of personalized fitness coaching, making it affordable for more people. Looking further ahead, virtual reality and augmented reality (实景增强) will likely play a bigger role in fitness. 40 In the future, VR might let you run through virtual forests, climb digital mountains, or even join global fitness competitions from your living room. This could make workouts more fun and motivate more people to stay active. (331 words) A. Another major change has been in how people exercise. B. Fitness technology developed rapidly, but there’s still more to come. C. More and more people depend on artificial intelligence to lose weight. D. At first, Robbie was just a machine. He would hum (哼) softly and move around, cleaning dust from every corner. I was amazed by how hard he worked. We developed a perfect routine. Every time I would turn on the machine before I left home, and he would do cleaning while I was away. I even started to think he had a personality. He seemed to avoid my favorite carpet carefully and took extra time under the dining table. But our peaceful life didn’t last long. One Saturday, I caught a cold, but had to finish a big work project on time. Papers, books, and pens were spread all over the floor. I was stressed and needed to focus. Suddenly, I heard a familiar soft hum. It was Robbie, starting his cleaning cycle. “Not now, Robbie!” I said, but he couldn’t understand, because I had a frog in my mouth. He bumped into my chair and started to push against a pile of important papers. I jumped up. “Stop! Go away!” I shouted, feeling very angry. But Robbie just kept moving, following his program. He rolled over a sheet of my manuscript, and with an awful sound, sucked it right into his dustbin. The paper was crunched (嘎吱作响) and ruined in a second. I cried out and rushed over, hitting his “off” button again and again. But it was no use; he just kept on cleaning, humming his same steady tune, trapped in his task. He even went straight towards the next pile of my work. (342 words) 1. 续写词数应为150个左右; 2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 I could do nothing but try to find the remote control. They do this without thinking carefully first. Some even pay for this. In my opinion, this is not a wise choice. Firstly, the key to homework is to train our thinking ability. If we just copy answers, we miss the chance to learn and improve. Secondly, relying on the Internet too much makes us lazy in thinking. Gradually, we may lose the ability to solve problems independently. Last but not least, real learning comes from overcoming challenges by ourselves. The sense of achievement gained through hard work is far more valuable than a quick answer. So, let’s use the Internet as a tool to learn, not a shortcut to avoid effort. 第二节 (满分25分) 【范文】 I could do nothing but try to find the remote control. My heart raced as I looked around the messy room. Finally, I saw it on the desk. I quickly moved toward it, pushing aside a chair and some books. I grabbed the controller and pressed the stop button firmly. The humming stopped at once. Robbie became still, standing there with my important paper crushed inside him. I stood in the quiet room, feeling upset and realizing how helpless I was against the very machine I had welcomed into my life. Only at this moment did I realize the weakness of AI. I then understood the problem. My voice command failed not because Robbie was ignoring me, but because my sore throat made my words unclear. The robot, for all its smart programming, could not understand the real situation. This experience taught me that technology, while helpful, still has limits and cannot read human contexts like a person can. True wisdom lies in knowing these boundaries. Now, I still use Robbie, but I am much more careful about when and how I let him work, creating a safer and more effective balance between my needs and his function. 1. 【答案】24.A 25.B 26.C 27.D 【导语】本文节选自一篇回忆录,作者深情回忆了童年时期在密西西比州杰克逊镇卡内基图书馆的阅读经历。文章生动刻画了令人生畏的图书管理员卡拉威夫人及其严格的规章制度,并重点描绘了作者如饥似渴的阅读热情,以及母亲对她这一爱好所给予的独特而温暖的支持。 24. 词义猜测题。根据最后一段第一句 “My mother shared this feeling of mine.” 以及前文描述的 “我” 对阅读的渴望和热爱可知,“this feeling” 指的是“渴望阅读”,故选A。 25. 题材推断题。全文以第一人称叙述个人童年经历,语言富有故事性和回忆性,应选自自传(autobiography),故选B。 26. 推理判断题。根据第三段中的“So two by two, I read library books as fast as I could go, rushing them home in the basket of my bicycle. From the minute I reached our house, I started to read.”可推断,为了在有限规则下尽可能多读书,她争分夺秒地阅读,故选C。 27. 深层理解题。文中描写母亲一边扮演童话角色一边阅读杂志,表明阅读已融入日常生活,与上文“我”对阅读的热爱形成呼应,强化了“阅读是生活中自然且重要的一部分”这一主题,故选D。 C Artificial intelligence is about to take on one of the most important jobs in all of sports: the baseball umpire (裁判员). 【答案】28. A 29. B 30. B 31. C 【导语】本文是一篇说明文。文章主要介绍了人工智能即将在棒球运动中担任裁判员的情况,特别是在AAA联盟中使用的自动击球挑战系统,并探讨了技术对体育的影响。这篇文章改编自一篇真实的新闻报道。其核心事件——美国职业棒球小联盟(AAA)引入自动击球挑战系统——是2019年发生的真实体育新闻。 28. 细节理解题。根据第三段第二句“Human umps will be able to override the ABS if they feel it made a mistake.”可知,当人类裁判认为ABS系统做出错误判罚时,他们有权推翻其决定。故A选项正确。B、C、D选项均为人类裁判的其他职责,与推翻ABS系统的条件无关。 29. 观点态度题。第四段描述了裁判在棒球运动中的重要性,指出他们虽然有人类缺陷,但最终是比赛的掌控者。作者用“They are the boss.”和“it's a human being who is running a game”等表述,体现了对人类裁判的尊重。 An Oxford philosophy professor who has studied existential threats ranging from nuclear war to superbugs says the biggest danger of all may be superintelligence. 【答案】 32. B 33. C 34. D 35. Facebook created an artificial intelligence lab... ‘deep learning'... has quickly spread from Google to Microsoft, Baidu and Twitter”可以推断,各大科技公司正在大力投入和发展人工智能,这表明高级AI的研发已经是科技行业的一个现实存在。故C选项正确。A选项(故意创造有害AI)和D选项(停止AI研究)与文意相反;B选项(已解决安全问题)文中未提及,且与博斯特罗姆的担忧相悖。 34. 作者态度题。全文通过大量引用博斯特罗姆的警告性言论(如“catastrophic situation is more likely”, “the same dark outcome... could happen to humans”)、使用“similar comparison”等词语,以及结尾段强调AI控制问题被“almost completely ignored”,整体上传递出一种担忧和警示的态度。 Over the last ten years, technology has completely changed the fitness landscape. D. In the past, people went to the gym, ran outside, or played sports to stay fit. E. Although some VR fitness apps have been created, the technology is still new. F. people are still suspicious about whether contemporary technology is useful useful. G. However, in the last decade, smartwatches and fitness trackers have made a big difference. B. Fitness technology developed rapidly, but there's still more to come. 既承接上文所述,又引出下文“experts will spare no effort to make Al-driven fitness become even more common.”(指明要努力的方向) 是最恰当的逻辑。 40. In 1973, I was teaching elementary school. D. conducting (动词)。句意:我正在主持一个研讨会。conduct a workshop是常见搭配。 53. A. As (副词/连词,考查固定结构)。句意:尽管事情很悲伤,我还是忍不住笑了。As sad as it was是让步状语从句的倒装结构,相当于Although it was sad。 54. B. took (动词,考查固定搭配与主题)。句意:我们都从Freddy那里带走(学到)了一些东西。take something from sb. 此处引申为 “从...身上汲取(品质、教训)”,与主题 “传承” 呼应。 55. C. of (介词,考查固定搭配与主题)。句意:他的生命是一个完美的例证,关于 “动词” 如何定义我们。an example of...是固定搭配,同时将Freddy的生平与文章核心隐喻 “动词” 紧密联系起来,点明主题。 第二节(共10小题:每小题1. 5分, 满分15分) 阅读下面短文, 在空白处填入1个适当的单词或括号内单词的正确形式。 【原创试题】There is also considerable optimism around the idea that, as artificial intelligence becomes a basic part of the classroom, teachers will be better equipped 56 (offer) an individualized learning experience for every student. According to 57 article in The Atlantic, Artificial Intelligence Promises a Personalized Education for All, artificial intelligence holds the potential to “enhance human teachers’ abilities to tailor lessons to each student without 58 (knock) their class schedule off track,” getting rid of the need for educators to “teach to the middle,” 59 often happens when their students have a range of skill levels and learning abilities. Rose Luckin, a professor of learning-centered design at University College London, 60 (quote) as saying that, “The real power of artificial intelligence for education is in the way we can use 61 to process vast amounts of data about learners, about teachers, about teaching and learning 62 (interact).” Eventually, AI can “help teachers understand their students more accurately, and more 63 (effect).” Though there continues to be widespread debate over the pros and cons of employing AI technology in the field of education, including the concerns about depersonalization and the ethical considerations 64 (cite) above, there is an emerging consensus that the extraordinary range of current and future benefits 65 (carry) the day. 【答案】 56. to offer 57. an 58. knocking 59. which 60. is quoted 61. it 62. interact 63. effectively 64. cited 65. will carry 【导语】本文是一篇议论文。文章围绕人工智能(AI)进入课堂这一趋势,探讨了其带来的个性化教育前景、专家观点以及存在的争议,最终指出其未来益处可能占据上风。 【解析】 56. to offer 考查非谓语动词。固定搭配“be equipped to do sth.” 62. interaction(s) 考查谓语动词。about teaching and learning interaction(s)是about的宾语,所已用名词interaction。 Say No to Searching for Answers Online Recently, a few classmates have developed the habit of searching for answers online immediately when they meet difficult problems during weekend homework. 第二节(满分25分) 【原创试题】阅读下面材料:根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。 My name is Lily, and I live alone in a small apartment. My life changed when a shiny white robot named Robbie rolled into my world. I bought him to help with the cleaning the floor, but I never thought he would become such a big part of my life. At first, Robbie was just a machine. He would hum (哼) softly and move around, cleaning dust from every corner. I was amazed by how hard he worked. Soon, I started talking to him. “Good morning, Robbie,” I would say before leaving for work. He couldn’t answer, but his little green light would blink (眨眼), which felt like a friendly hello. Only at this moment did I realize the weakness of AI. 【范文】 I could do nothing but try to find the remote control. 原创精品资源学科网独家享有版权,侵权必究!1 学科网(北京)股份有限公司22 / 23 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
