The start of the year is often a time for making resolutions.
Although the resolutions are different, most of them have one thing
in common. People hardly ever keep them. Keeping them is more
important than making them.
On the first day after New Year of 2026, Jack got up and got
dressed. Then, he looked at his tooth brush and said, “In 2026, I
will brush my teeth after every meal.” Then he looked at his
16
mother and said, “In 2026, I will always be nice to you.” And his
mother smiled.
When Jack arrived at school, he didn't finish his homework.
He said to his teacher Mr Smith, “Sir, in 2026, I will always do
my homework.” Mr Smith tutted (发出啧啧声) at Jack.
At lunchtime, Jack went to the canteen and he ate a
hamburger and some chips. He said to his friend, “In 2026, I am
going to stop eating fast food and I will eat healthy food like
chicken, fish and salad.” Jack's friend just smiled.
When Jack arrived home after school, he turned on his
computer as soon as he had dinner. He started playing computer
games. After playing for three hours and he said to himself, “In
2026, I will not play computer games all the time. I will play for
only one hour a day.” He looked in the mirror and said to himself,
“I made these resolutions for 2025, but I didn't keep any of them!
This time I really take these promises seriously! I believe I can do
it.”
Hope Jack can keep his resolutions this year. After all, making
them is easy, and keeping them is difficult. But keeping them is
more important and more meaningful.#6
1.Why does the writer tell Jack's story?( )
D
A.Because he is hard-working.
B.Because he is popular at school.
C.Because he likes making resolutions and can keep them.
D.Because he makes resolutions and hardly ever keeps them.
2.How many resolutions did Jack make for 2026?( )

When people have different opinions or needs, conflicts (冲突)
may happen. Naomi Drew, the writer of The Kids' Guide to Working
Out Conflicts: How to Keep Cool, Stay Safe, and Get Along, gives
kids some useful advice on getting on with friends.
39
Q1: A friend of mine often hangs out with our friends, but he
never invites me. What can I do?
A1: If a friend does something you don't like, don't be afraid to
talk to him. Don't be angry with him. Try to make him understand
your feelings so that you can work through it together.
Q2: My friend is impolite to other people. She said if I didn't like
her, she would stop being my friend.
A2: Never “sell out” just to follow one friend. Do what you believe
is right, and you can always find some new friends.
Q3: My friend and I argue a lot. Although we'll be friends again
soon, I don't like it. What should I do?
A3: “Winning an argument” isn't always worth (值得) it. Next
time when you argue, let your friend “win” if the thing is not
important to you. If you give in (让步) a little, so may your
friend. And remember, probably your friend isn't wrong. He or she
just sees things differently.#1.4.1

Nowadays, AI plays an important role in
our daily life. And more and more smart things are
coming to us. Among them, Ola Friend is very
popular.#2
In 2024, Doubao brought us amazing AI smart earphones called
Ola Friend. They are open-ear headphones and really light, with
each one just 6.6 grams (克). You can wear them for hours
48
without any discomfort, like you hardly feel them—it's so
comfortable! These earphones come in four nice colours. They went
on sale on October 17.Their relation (关系) with Doubao's large
language model is great. Say “Doubao Doubao” and you can talk to
Doubao without touching your phone. They're very useful in daily
life, although they have some weaknesses.
When you visit a museum, Ola Friend becomes a helpful guide.
If you see an interesting thing on show and ask about it, it can tell
you all about its past and the person who made it. It can even
share some fun facts about it, helping you learn more easily.
On a trip in a foreign (外国的) country, it's really useful. It
quickly turns your words into the home language, and gives advice
in local ways. You can talk to people there easily and won't make
mistakes.
For those who exercise, it's like a good helper. It shows how
fast your heart beats while you run. After your exercise, it shows
things like how much energy you used, which is good for seeing
how well you're doing in exercise.
Learning English? Ola Friend helps you say words the right
way. You can practise talking with it, and it'll get your mistakes
right in language rules, making it much easier and better to learn
English.
However, Ola Friend also has some weaknesses. Sometimes the
battery (电池) runs out fast. If you use it very often in a day,
like listening to music and asking questions, it won't work before
the day ends.#7.1
1.Why are Ola Friend earphones comfortable to wear?( )
A
A.Because they're light. B.Because they're useful.
C.Because they're popular. D.Because they're colourful.
2.What can we know about Ola Friend earphones according to the
text?( )

A.They can play sports with us when we exercise.

In the story “Snow White”, the queen
decides to kill Snow White once and for all
with an apple covered with deadly poison
(毒药). Thanks to seven helpful dwarves
(小矮人) and a handsome prince, Snow
White gets well again.
59
But the queen doesn't need to do that. In fact, apples—along
with many common fruits we eat—are already poisonous! But don't
be afraid. The flesh are not bad for you. It's only the seeds that
you shouldn't eat.
Apples belong to a plant family called Rosaceae. This group
also includes (包括) other fruits like peaches, plums, apricots, and
cherries. The seeds or stones of all these fruits have a chemical
(化学物) called amygdalin. Inside an animal's stomach, amygdalin
turns into a strong poison called cyanide. And cyanide can make
people and animals very sick, or even kill them. Still, don't worry
if you eat a few apple seeds by accident. Each seed has very little
poison. You'd have to eat a large bowl of seeds to feel any effect
(影响).
Why would a tree make poisonous seeds? To stop animals from
nibbling on them! Amygdalin tastes terrible. It's also found in
leaves and other parts of fruit trees. If a cow eats apple leaves, it
will get a bad taste and an upset stomach (肠胃不适). Animals
soon learn to keep away from those trees. Thanks, amygdalin!
Mirror mirror, on the wall, who's the cleverest fruit of all?
You, my apple!#6.1
