What is self-acceptance?
Self-acceptance means learning to accept(接受)the things that make you who you are. And being thankful for what you’re good at, like sports, science or singing. Passage 2
Relationships are important for children and can have a great influence on their development at home and at school. Relationship skills, such as communication, teamwork, and the ability to solve problems are valuable skills. Here are some tips on how you can help your children develop these life skills.
As children grow and develop, the need for communication skills becomes increasingly important. Communication with family members can be especially difficult when kids are young, but taking time to talk about things that make them sad or happy will help build healthy relationships as they get older. Teach children how to use their words rather than act out physically. For example, say sorry if someone feels hurt by something you said or did.
Encourage (鼓励) your children to know what makes them a great teammate and also what they need when working with others. Children who love to have fun and tell jokes may be able to motivate (激励) their friends through a difficult task, but they may need a friend who can stay organized and on task. When kids understand their own skills and what they need from others, they’ll be able to work together with many more people.
Kids may feel like peers (同龄人) who do things differently than them are “bad” which isn’t true. Encourage your children to talk about similarities and differences among their friends. You can describe a time as a child or an adult when you were self-aware enough to stand up for what you wanted instead of giving in to what someone else wanted you to do. More than anything, building good relationship skills with the whole family can mitigate (减轻) the effects of peer pressure. Of course, some peer pressure can be positive when it encourages children to take safety risks that move them out of their comfort zone.
All in all, kids need parents, teachers and other caring adults to help them learn how they can build healthy relationship skills now and for a lifetime.
1.How does the writer explain the way children use their words properly?
A.By telling a story. B.By listing some numbers.
C.By giving an example. D.By comparing two facts.
2.What’s the fourth paragraph mainly about?
A.When your kids might make mistakes.
B.What you can talk about with children.
C.How you can help kids solve peer pressure.
D.Why you should describe your experience.
3.Which of the following shows the structure of the passage?
(①=Paragraph 1②=Paragraph 2.)

Getting along with others has taught me one valuable lesson: kindness creates lasting bonds. Last summer, I experienced this with my cousin Mia.

But the real surprise came later. Last month, Mia used her paintings to raise money for stray animals. She has sold over 30 pieces! Her act of kindness inspired me deeply. Watching her transform from a shy girl into someone who helps others feels priceless.

At my neighbourhood’s dog park, everyone smiles and says hello.
Are dog owners nicer than other people? I can’t say that’s true, but sometimes it feels like it is. Maybe because of their animals, the people in the dog park find it easy to be friendly. When I take my pet dog Clancy there, I often have talks with other dog owners.
Not long ago, there was a meeting of recommendations at the park. It started with an old man with a Labrador. “Does anyone know a good computer person?” he asked.
“I’ve got one,” said a lady sitting with her Chihuahua. “But does anyone know a good dentist?”
“Oh, I have one of those,” said a young mother with her Pomeranian, “but I wonder if anyone knows a good place to repair watches.”
“The store up the road does that,” said a man walking past with a Teddy.
Whenever I have a question, instead of turning to the Internet, I think. “There will be an answer at the park.”
However, the bad part is that people who are not dog owners cannot understand me.
“That’s a beautiful painting,” said a friend the other day in my living room as he watched a picture by Remnim Alexander Tayco. “How did you come across the artist?” “While walking my dog,” I said. “He has a dog and Clancy enjoys playing with it.” “What?” he said.
Or when someone asked where I found my accountant (会计师), I replied, “I met her at the dog park.” At this point, people would shrug their shoulders (耸肩), as if to say, “What a strange place to find an accountant!” But what would be a better place?

Passage 5
A friendship is very important. However, it is not easy to build a lasting friendship. In order to do so, you need to make the person whom you want to make friends with trust you. Of course, it is easier said than done. Here is some of my advice about making friends.
First, be careful when you want to make friends with someone. He or she may not be as kind as you think. He or she may lie and may cause you trouble. Once I told a secret of mine to one of my friends. I told him not to tell the secret to anybody else. But that was a lie! I was very sad when I found out that he had told the secret to many people. It was so terrible.
Second, it is not easy to maintain a friendship. You should not be selfish (自私的) and you should think about problems from the side of your friends. It is also important to keep calm. A friendship won’t last long if you don’t care for your friends or blame (责怪) them whenever there is conflict (争执).
My last suggestion is: you don’t have to use presents to show that you care for your friends. Friendship is not built on gifts. Instead, it is founded on kindness and true love.
Cherish (珍惜) your friends! They are treasure (财富) in your life!
1.What’s the meaning of the underlined word “maintain” in Chinese?
A.维持 B.尊重 C.看守 D.破坏

Passage 5
Joining tea with tech
Chinese scientists create robots for picking tea
Spring is here, and it is time to enjoy West Lake Longjing tea. Usually, we think of workers picking tea leaves by hand. But now, some Longjing tea is being picked by metal workers—tea-picking robots!
In a Hangzhou tea garden, a smart tea-picking robot developed by Zhejiang Sci-Tech University was set to work for the first time. “We took thousands of pictures of new tea buds (芽) and fed them to the robot for it to learn. The robot uses an AI model to recognize (识别) the buds it needs to pick,” said Professor Chen Jianneng, Party branch secretary (党支部书记) of the research team. This lets the robot find the right tea buds about 90 percent of the time.
The robot’s arm pulls and then sucks (吸) up the tea buds. These buds are quickly moved into a special box. After the robot gathers all the buds from the area it’s working at, it moves the buds from the box to a main box that holds everything it collects.
The robot was made because there are not enough people to pick tea. In Zhejiang, about 400,000 more pickers are needed now. “Picking is the biggest challenge for the development of the tea industry,” said Professor Wu Chuanyu, who leads the research team.
“Tea-picking robots are a trend (趋势) of the future,” said Wu. In a positive (积极的) case, about five years from now, the robots will do the job of picking West Lake Longjing tea instead of people, Wu added.
Hao Feifei contributed to this story.
Room for improving
● Telling the difference
Some tea buds look very much alike. Tea buds are also very close to each other. The weather also affects (影响) them. All these things make it hard for the robot to pick the right ones and pick them well.
● Getting stuck
When there are small waterdrops on the tea leaf, the buds may stick to the walls of the tube (管) when being sucked into the machine. This can block the tube, and the robot will stop working.
● Working environment
Robots can now only work on flat (平整的) ground and slopes (斜坡) under 15 degrees. However, many tea plants are on hills. The robots can’t deal with the hilly ground.Choose the answer:
1.How can the robot find tea buds?
A.Its arms are only shaped for picking tea buds.
B.It takes pictures of tea buds and sends them back.
C.People use an AI model to control it.
D.It has read many pictures of tea buds.
2.What is Paragraph 3 mainly about?
A.What boxes the robot has. B.How the robot works.
C.What kinds of tea buds are useful. D.How to move buds from one box to another.
3.Why do people use robots to pick tea?
A.Because picking tea is a big challenge to human workers.
B.Because there are too many human pickers.
C.Because there are not enough tea pickers.
D.Because robots recognize the buds better than humans.
4.What will happen to the West Lake Longjing tea according to Wu?
A.Not so many people will drink Longjing tea.
B.There may be few human pickers five years later.
C.Robots can help taste the tea in the near future.

Imagine a group of people are talking about something happily. But there is one man who cannot follow them. Why? He has a hearing problem. How can we help such people?
Now a new and exciting invention allows deaf people to see conversations in real time. Using augmented reality (AR,增强现实技术) glasses and a smartphone, deaf people are also able to join in everyday conversations.
The AR glasses were developed by Dan Scarfe after he had a Christmas dinner with his family. The man saw his 97-year-old hearing-impaired grandfather sitting alone in silence while the rest of the family were talking excitedly. The images of his grandfather always watching TV shows with subtitles (字幕) crossed Scarfe’s mind. He suddenly realized that maybe the AR glasses could help.
Scarfe got to work, working with Nreal, an AR glasses maker. Six months later, a new pair of AR glasses came out. The glasses have a microphone that receives the audio (音频) from the environment and sends it to a connected smartphone. The phone then creates subtitles from that audio and these subtitles then appear on the user’s glasses screen.
The company first tested the glasses in the UK. The UK was chosen as a testing ground as over 13 million adults in Britain have hearing loss. However, when the product goes global, it could change the lives of millions of people.
This is a great change for the deaf. Mark Atkinson, who is using the AR glasses, said, “As a deaf person myself, I am blown away by this new technology. When I tried on the glasses for the first time, I was so happy. Real-time subtitles made me become part of the conversation as never before.”

—— ② AI聊天工具
Have you ever got a bad grade in your biochemistry test? Does this make you think it’s impossible for you to become a great doctor in the future? Or do you want to ask your future self how you can succeed?
Now, an AI tool called Future You might help find these answers. Harvard student Peggy is part of a team that designed the AI chatting robot Future You, a tool that helps users “see” their future. “Through talking with AI, Future You allows people to explore different possibilities of their future,” Peggy explains. “It shows possible futures that feel real and encouraging.”
Peggy also worked with a psychology (心理) scientist. This scientist’s research is about the psychology behind Future You: an idea called future self-connection. It means how close you feel to your future self. When people feel strongly connected, they believe they can become the person they want to be. For example, when you feel down, you can talk with Future You. After chatting with this wiser self, you may be more willing to go after your goals and worry less about your future. You will also be more careful about your choices, as you understand that choices you make today will make a difference tomorrow.
There are three key steps to create a Future You. First, tell your story. To do this, you are going to answer questions about who you are, what your life is like now, and what you want to do in the future. This information helps Future You better understand you, so it can create a 60-year-old future self. Second, you send a picture of yourself and it can show you a picture of what you might look like at 60. Finally, you can start a conversation.

Passage 3
Bob likes climbing very much. However, there wasn’t a climbing club in his school at first, so he felt sad.
At the beginning of the second year of middle school, his school offered rock climbing lessons in order to encourage students to exercise. He was so happy that he joined at once.
In the first lesson, the coach said, “Rock climbing needs strength, speed, courage and persistence (坚持). All these are necessary.” But in Bob’s opinion, rock climbing was just a fun activity. It interested him.
During the following classes, the coach asked the students to run 1,000 metres first, and then climb with a rope. When Bob finished running, he almost lost his breath (呼吸) and got bored, and he even did not want to touch the rope. He thought it was less interesting than before. The coach noticed that and asked him, “Why do you want to take rock climbing lessons?” “I come for fun, of course.” “Is that fun?” he asked. Bob shook his head slowly. The coach then explained patiently, “That’s because you stop halfway. You know, beautiful sights are always on the top.”

Terd Disayathanoowat, a 39-year-old researcher from Chiang Mai in Thailand, thinks Yunnan Province in China is a place where he feels at home. Moreover, Yunnan borders three countries: Laos, Vietnam, and Myanmar.
Terd first visited Yunnan through a programme for talented young scientists. During his stay, he developed a deep affection for the province, describing the experience as “like returning home”. “My great-grandfather was born in Yunnan. He migrated to Thailand for business over a century ago and eventually (最后) decided to live there. I’ve felt a deep connection with China since my childhood,” he said.
“Like many Chinese parents, my father believes in ‘No pain, no gain.’ He was always strict with me. Without his guidance (指导), I wouldn’t have become a university scholar,” Terd added, noting that his father still follows news about China.
Terd had never been to China until a study trip to Beijing 10 years ago. However, it wasn’t until he visited Yunnan that he truly felt at home, as the province shares many similarities with Chiang Mai. From Yunnan’s spicy cuisine and diverse ethnic (民族的) groups to its rich biodiversity, seasonal weather, and even the language, almost everything was familiar to him.

Passage 5
Do you often compare(比较)yourself with other people and wish you could be more like them? We are all different in our own way. Self-acceptance can help you feel happier and better about yourself.
What is self-acceptance?
Self-acceptance means learning to accept(接受)the things that make you who you are. And being thankful for what you’re good at, like sports, science or singing. Self-acceptance also means valuing(重视)the parts of you that don’t shine very brightly, like being forgetful or untidy. A 12-year-old girl, Lily, says self-acceptance means “knowing your own weaknesses and strengths(强项), and accepting who you are no matter what other people say or think.”
Why is self-acceptance good for you?
When you accept who you are, you worry less about things you can’t change. It makes you feel happier and more confident. The Anna Freud Centre, a charity that helps young people, says everyone can feel that they have to be perfect(完美的), but that makes us forget about the little things that make us special. ▲ For example, some people may find letters or numbers hard to read, but they might have strengths in other things, like finding good ways to work out problems.
How can you accept yourself?
Start by making a list of all the things you like about yourself. Maybe you’re good at cooking, or people find it easy to talk to you. Also, try saying kind, happy things to yourself in a mirror every morning. Think up ways to treat yourself, such as taking a long shower, watching your favorite film, or eating delicious ice-cream. But don’t forget it’s important to eat healthy food and get enough sleep.

A. B. C. D.
4.What’s the best title for the passage?
A.Relationship skills kids need
B.The importance of relationship skills
C.Tips on how to keep children healthy
D.Useful communication skills for kids
Passage 3
The Birthday Gift
Getting along with others has taught me one valuable lesson: kindness creates lasting bonds. Last summer, I experienced this with my cousin Mia.
Mia’s family moved to our city, and she felt lonely without friends. As her closest relative here, I decided to help. I noticed she loved painting but couldn’t afford good supplies. For weeks, I secretly saved pocket money. Finally, I bought her a set of professional watercolors.
When I offered the gift on her birthday, Mia’s eyes lit up. “How did you know?” she whispered. Since that day, she has painted daily. Her confidence grew, and she even joined the school art club.
But the real surprise came later. Last month, Mia used her paintings to raise money for stray animals. She has sold over 30 pieces! Her act of kindness inspired me deeply. Watching her transform from a shy girl into someone who helps others feels priceless.

Passage 4

C.To advise people to keep pet dogs.
D.To show his/her lovely dog.

Passage 1
(24-25八年级上·广东广州·期中)Bi Sheng was a great Chinese inventor who lived in the 11th century. He came from a poor family. But he had a great interest in learning and making things. In those times, books were copied by hand with great difficulty. It was a very slow and hard task. Bi Sheng often saw that and thought there must be a better way.
One day, while walking in the street, Bi Sheng noticed two children were making little toys like people and pigs out of the mud and putting them in different orders. This gave Bi Sheng a great idea. He thought that he could make the character first and then put them in orders like the mud toys.
After much thought and experiments, Bi Sheng decided to use clay. He carefully pressed the clay into small pieces and cut one character on each piece. Then, he put these clay pieces into a fire to make them hard. Then he put the clay characters in an iron frame (框架) to form a passage. After that, ink was put on the clay characters.
D.Robots will do the job in all parts of the tea industry.
· 新兴话题扩展 —— ① AR眼睛
Now, are you ready to meet a Future You?
1.According to the scientist’s research, what may happen after people use Future You?
