(25-26年秋嘉祥9月月考)Chinese children love holidays, so do American school children. And they get a lot of them each year. They have holidays like Thanksgiving and President' Day off from school. Besides (除了) summer holiday and winter holiday, they have spring break. It is a week off from school. Kids in the US only go to school for about 180 days a year. For students, holidays are wonderful. However, parents think there are advantages and disadvantages (优点和缺点).
On the one hand, school holidays let children have more time to stay with their family. Many American parents can take time off from work in June, July or August to take a trip with their children. On the other hand, school children get much more time off school than parents get off from work. So students sometimes just stay at home, feeling bored in the long summer vacation.
American students enjoy going on trips with their parents. They also enjoy doing many kinds of things in the holiday. For example, some kids enjoy summer camps and outdoor activities. Such trips are great for students who like going out, and also help a lot for students who aren't interested in PE activities. They can have classes about survival (生存) skills. Students learn how to make a camp in the forest, what kind of food they can eat and how to get back to the camp.
Students who are not excited about summer camps and outdoor activities may have classes about designing (设计) computer games, making movies and taking pictures in the holidays. Finally, school trips to other countries are always popular,

and they make it easy for students to learn about the life in other countries.

Wednesday, July 17th The trip started well at first and everyone was happy and excited. I knew there were some big animals in the forests, such as tigers, but I thought those tigers would never go near people. When we rode the horse along the river, a 200-kilogram tiger came out from the trees. It quickly ran to the eight-year-old boy. The horse tried to run away from the tiger. But the tiger ran after it. The boy kept shouting loudly for help. I had to help the boy! I gave my horse a kick and we went after the tiger. The boy fell off the horse then and the tiger just went to him. I quickly put my horse in front of the boy to stop the tiger. At last, the tiger went away. Everyone said I did a good job, but I knew I need to be careful next time. |
Sunday, August 18th My son always says it's parents' job to do the housework. Today, I asked 50 students about housework during the forest trip. To my surprise, all of them do the housework. 32 students do the housework once or twice a week, 9 students three to five times a week and the rest every day. The most popular kind of housework is taking out the rubbish, followed by making the bed and watering flowers. All the students dislike washing the dishes. 5 students wash clothes once or twice a week. They often wash clothes on Saturdays or Sundays. 3 students wash clothes three to four times a week. The rest never wash clothes. And most of them are boys. So should I ask my son to help with housework? |
