Which problem worries you most?
Miss Liu: OK, now we are going to do a little quiz about the sea. Let's start with the first question. Why are sea levels on our planet rising?
Wu Di: I know! The sea is getting warmer because of global warming. A lot of the ice in the North and South Poles is disappearing. That makes the sea levels rise.
Miss Liu: That's right, Wu Di. Now question number two. Many kinds of fish are dying out. Why is this?
Li Na: Is it because people catch too many fish?
Miss Liu: That's correct. There is another reason too. Can anyone guess?
Su Mei: Is it the plastic pollution? I read that a huge amount of plastic rubbish ends up in the sea each year. Fish and other sea animals eat it and get ill. Sea animals also get caught in the plastic and die.
Miss Liu: You're right, Su Mei. We need to do something about this. Now, the next question ...
After you listen
Do any words/phrases show cause and effect?
What may be the next question?
Brainstorm: As students, what can we do to help?
Task 3: What can we do to protect the sea?

eat less fish
suggest making laws

sort out rubbish
use less plastic products
…
work as volunteers

S1 (Miss Liu): Now, the next question, ______________
S2 (Wu Di)/S3 (Li Na)/S4 (Su Mei): ...
...
S1 (Miss Liu): That’s all of today’s quiz. All of you have done a great job in this quiz. From this quiz, we learn that__________________________________________. I hope that we can ______________________________.

Our ocean is life. She generates the air we breathe, puts food on our table, sustains our economy, absorbs excess carbon emissions and is our greatest ally in the fight against climate change. But she is under threat: Unsustainable human activities, from overfishing to marine pollution, and global warming combined with rising sea levels, acidification and coastal erosion, has seriously degraded our ocean.
She is our ocean, our future and our responsibility. We have the power to save her and we must act now to turn the tide for people and our planet.

The ocean produces at least 50% of the planet's oxygen, it is home to most of Earth’s biodiversity, and is the main source of protein and nutrition for more than 3 billion people.
Despite all of this, the ocean is at risk, facing a multidimensional crisis driven by overfishing, pollution, habitat loss, invasive species and climate change. This is time for action.
