原创语法填空(一)
World's tallest bridge seen as new high in infrastructure
The Huajiang Grand Canyon Bridge in Guizhou province, the world's tallest, opened to traffic on Sunday, turning what was once a two-hour drive across the gorge into a trip of 1 (bare) two minutes. It's a symbol of China's progress in improving infrastructure(基础设施) in rural areas.
Rising 625 meters above the Beipan River, the bridge is a key project of 2 expressway linking the Liuzhi special district of Liupanshui city with Anlong county. With a main span 3 (measure) 1,420 meters, it anchors a new expressway that 4 (wind) through one of China's most mountainous provinces, 5 geography has long made traveling a challenge.
Guizhou has earned a reputation 6 a province of bridges. According to the provincial transportation department, to date more than 32,000 bridges 7 (build) or are under construction, and nearly half of the world's 100 tallest bridges rise from its valleys. The Huajiang bridge is now its 8 (striking) landmark, embodying(体现) both practical needs and engineering ambition of the region.
Building at such a height tested the limits of design and construction. Engineers faced 9 (predictable) weather, sheer cliffs and wind gusts(劲吹) topping 100 kilometers per hour. To meet those challenges, the team relied on a series of new technologies.
Han Hongju, chief engineer of the Guizhou Communications Investment Group, said the company introduced an intelligent cable-hoisting system guided by the Beidou Navigation Satellite System. It allowed workers to position steel trusses — the structures that support the deck — with centimeter-level 10 (accurate).
原创语法填空(二)
Huajiang Grand Canyon Bridge in Guizhou Province, the world's tallest bridge, has 1 (official) opened. Workers lifted the final 215-ton steel piece (钢结构) into place, completing the main structure of the bridge. This "sky-high" project opened to traffic on September, 28th, 2025.
Started in 2022, the bridge stretches 1,420 meters across a deep river canyon. Its 2 (high) point reaches 625 meters above the Beipan River—nearly the height of the Shanghai Tower, China’s tallest building. It now holds two world records: the tallest bridge and the longest span(跨度)of any mountain bridge.
Why was such an extreme bridge built? Guizhou’s mountainous and rugged terrain(崎岖的地形)makes transportation challenging. The bridge is part of a new highway 3 cut travel time across the canyon from around one hour to just two minutes! It is also expected 1 (boost) tourism to nearby attractions such as the famous Huangguoshu Waterfall.
"The 5 (complete) of the Huajiang Grand Canyon Bridge will strengthen economic ties among Guiyang, Anshun, and Qianxinan, 6 (foster) regional economic integration," said Chen Jianfei, deputy director of the Guizhou Transport Department. Li Zhao, chief engineer of the project, expressed his pride: "Seeing my work become something tangible—Watching the bridge grow day by day and finally stand above the canyon 7 (give) me an incredible sense of achievement."
8 , it wasn't easy to build it. Steel pieces weighed 22 000 tons, as much as 3 Eiffel Towers. Crazy winds and sudden weather changes in the canyon made it face more difficulties. Engineers used smart solutions, like a homegrown cable crane (起重机) system 9 (guide) by China's Beidou satellites. This system could lift heavy parts with millimeter precision (毫米精度). 10 the main construction complete and the deck now installed, the bridge has opened as scheduled.
原创语法填空(三)
Stretching(绵延) 1,420 meters, the main span of the Huajiang Grand Canyon Bridge towers 625 meters above the Beipan River in Guizhou province. It is the world's highest and longest span in 1 (mountain) terrain and shortens travel time 2 the two sides from two hours to two minutes.
3 (describe) the world-class project, the builders used a vivid analogy of two "sky-high trees", 1,420 meters apart, 4 (connect) by two giant "clotheslines", or cables which are 2,378 meters long and nearly 1 meter thick. From this, 91 pairs of hangers — the "suspenders" — are strung vertically(垂直地), spaced 15.4 meters apart, to hold up the long, four-lane bridge deck, 5 can be imagined as a "clothes drying platform".
Built across one of the deep canyons in China, the bridge was built in one of the most challenging environments imaginable by workers who can only 6 (describe) as heroic. The air can be calm, but then in seconds the wind can gust to more than 100 kilometers per hour, enough to blow a man off his perch. To master the forces of nature, engineers employed a laser radar wind scanning system, 7 (map) air flow in three dimensions in real time.
The bridge 8 (construct) with amazing speed, requiring about four years from groundbreaking to carrying traffic. It carries more than vehicles. It also carries history, hope and the 9 (weigh) of a nation's dreams.
Visitors can also expect a cafe high atop one of the towers, heart-stopping bungee jumping 10 a walk on a glass platform suspended(悬于) above the canyon.

The traffic signals along Factoria Boulevard in Bellevue, Washington, generally don’t flash the same length of green twice in a row, 1 (especial) at rush hour. At 9:30am, the full red/yellow/green signal cycle might be 140 seconds. By 9:33am, a burst of additional traffic might push it to 145 seconds. Less traffic at 9:37am could push it down to 135. Just like the traffic 2 (it), the timing of the signals changes.
That is by design. Bellevue, a fast-growing city just east of Seattle, uses a system that is gaining 3 (popular) around the US: intersection (十字路口) signals that can adjust in real time to traffic conditions. These lights, known as adaptive signals, 4 (lead) to significant declines in both the trouble and cost of travels between work and home.
“Adaptive signals can make sure that the traffic demand 5 is there is being addressed, ” says Alex Stevanovic, a researcher at Florida Atlantic University.
For all of Bellevue’s success, adaptive signals are not a cure-all for jammed roadways. Kevin Balke, a research engineer at the Texas A&M University Transportation Institute, says that while smart lights can be particularly 6 (benefit) for some cities, others are so jammed 7 only a sharp reduction in the number of cars on the road will make a meaningful difference. “It’s not going to fix everything, but adaptive signals have some benefits for smaller cities,” he says.
In Bellevue, the switch 8 adaptive signals has been a lesson in the value of welcoming new approaches. In the past, there was often 9 automatic reaction to increased traffic: just widen the roads, says Mark Poch, the Bellevue Transportation Department’s traffic engineering manager. Now he hopes that other cities will consider 10 (make) their streets run smarter instead of just making them bigger.

A future generation of flying cars could change the idea that all flying 1 (be) bad for the climate.
Firms 2 as Rolls-Royce, Lilium and Vertical Aerospace have argued that flying cars could be a green form of transport, despite the large amounts of energy they need 3 (get) off the ground. One of the first 4 (study) into the environmental effect of such vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) vehicles suggests 5 their backers could be right — 6 least in some circumstances. Gregory Keoleian at the University of Michigan and his colleagues found that VTOL aircraft, if they ever take to the skies, would produce percent 7 (few) emissions (排放物) than an electric car over a100-kilometre journey.
Don’t jump into a VTOL just yet, though. The 8 (differ) was only very small and there are several big catches. Number one is that flying cars don’t 9 (present) exist yet. Moreover, journeys shorter than 35 kilometres in the air would produce more emissions than electric cars, because of the energy 10 (require) at take-off.
【答案】1.is 2.such 3.to get 4.studies 5.that 6.at 7.fewer 8.difference 9.presently 10.required
