Dear David,
Being a common and quiet student in my class, I feel like my teachers and classmates don’t care about me. I have friends, but they always seem closer with other people instead of me. I want to feel like I matter at school. What should I do?
Andy
Dear Andy,
I can understand as I was quite a lonely and shy kid at school. I often felt that my friends didn’t care much about me. It can be a hard thing.
However, as friends come and go, we sometimes make our most important friends later in life. Be yourself and stay confident in who you are. You don’t need to change yourself to try to fit in. But you can try engaging (参加) more activities if you have time. Joining a school club or two might help you meet more friends and make you more outgoing.
As for your teachers, try to be patient with them. I used to be a teacher, and I can tell you, all my students mattered. But sometimes, the louder ones got more attention. If these worries continue, you could try talking with your teachers about it. At times, it’s natural to feel like we don’t matter enough, but as long as you’re working hard and doing things that make you proud of yourself, that’s what counts.
David

Birds are building their nests (巢) with rubbish. The rubbish includes cigarette butts (烟头) and plastic bags.
A group of European scientists looked into about 35,000 studies on birds nests. They found that birds have used man-made things in nests almost on Earth except Antarctic (南极).
Some rubbish seems to be helpful. This is why birds “like” putting it in their nests. For example, cigarette butts have some chemicals so they can keep insects (昆虫) away and protect the chicks (雏鸟). Plastic bags are useful in keeping the animals warm, and other hard things, such as paper cards, can make nests stronger.
However, in the end, human rubbish may only bring harm to birds. The toxic (有毒的) chemicals in cigarette hurt the chicks. The chicks may get sick or have shorter lives.
To make matters worse, if the cigarette still burns when the bird brings it back to its home, it may set fire to the nest. Pieces of fishing net may also trap (缠住) birds, and it’s impossible for them to get out by themselves. If the chicks eat other kinds of rubbish by accident, they will also get hurt. Our friends in the air are feeling the bad effects of humans polluting the environment.
62.How can cigarette butts “help” birds?

D.It shows the friendship between birds and humans.

Exploring (探索) space is important because it helps us learn more about other planets and stars. We can learn how they work and what they are made of so that we can understand more about the earth too.
Zhurong has been working on Mars (火星) since it arrived there on May 15th, 2021. The machine has collected a lot of information about the planet. Then earlier this year, Zhurong found signs of water on the red planet! It is an amazing discovery because, without water, it’s hard for anything to survive. And the signs of water on Mars raise the possibility that there may be living things on it.
This finding is of great importance because it suggests that there might be water on Mars. And if there is water there, it’s possible that some kind of living thing can live there. Scientists are still trying to find out what life forms might live on Mars with water. Some of them are asking whether there are more planets with water. And if scientists can find other planets with water, it might lead to the discovery of new forms of life.
While it might be a while before we can visit Mars, explorers like Zhurong will keep looking for signs of water and other things about the planet. Who knows what we might find next?

Are you the kind of person who always keeps a piece of chocolate nearby? Perhaps you feel weak or sleepy without your sweets. If so, you may have a problem that millions of others have: sugar addiction (瘾).
Addiction means you use a thing or do an activity over and over again, although that’s bad for you. Playing computer games, drinking and eating are examples of activities that can develop into addiction.
There are four stages (阶段) of sugar addiction. Stage one begins with a strong need for something sweet. In stage two, even after the sugar has been eaten, the need remains and grows.
You must eat more sugar to feel happy. In stage three, when you don’t eat the sugar you want, you feel bad. It doesn’t stop there. You also have some physical problems like headaches. Overtime, sugar addiction will reach stage four. This stage shows the worst health impacts (影响) of sugar addiction.
Breaking sugar addiction can be difficult, but it is important for your health. There are a few things to keep in mind. It’s simple advice you probably have heard before. Dear David,
Being a common and quiet student in my class, I feel like my teachers and classmates don’t care about me.
David

A.He is too quiet to have friends. B.His teachers don’t like him.

As we all know, there are many traditional festivals in China. Among them, I like the Lantern Festival best, which is celebrated on the 15th day of the first lunar month. During the festival, we usually eat sweet dumplings, admire beautiful lanterns and enjoy the fantastic lion or dragon dances. The most interesting activity is guessing lantern riddles. We can have fun and learn something from it. The festival not only brings us joy, but also makes us know more about our culture, so it’s my favorite festival.
