Long long ago, when God first planted a tree in the garden, it was full of energy and kept moving. Then God pulled the tree out and planted it upside down to make sure it stayed in one place. What’s the tree? It’s the baobab tree, also called the monkey bread tree, bottle tree or others.
The baobab tree is a strange-looking tree that grows in Africa and Australia. Just like its name "bottle tree", it looks like a large bottle. Some grow as tall as a 11-floor building. During the dry season, these trees are standing there without leaves, and look like trunks (树干) sticking up in the air. But when the rainy season comes, leaves appear and then flowers come out. Later the flowers can turn into fruit.
Baobabs are called "the tree of life", because they can live longer than 1,000 years old. In the dry land, the baobab can hold up to 120,000 liters of water. Thirsty people can drink the water stored in the tree. The fruit, monkey bread, is good to eat. Baobab leaves are a kind of medicine. People can use the bark (树皮) to make paper or cloth. When a baobab gets old, its trunk becomes hollow. An old tree can hold many people. The local people often build their houses inside these trunks. It is such a useful tree that some people could hardly live without it.
59.How does the writer begin the text?
A. By asking a question. B. By showing a story.
C. By singing a song. D. By giving an example.

We all need purpose in our lives. And so do dogs. Work is good for us. While holidays are great, after a while, we can miss our sense of routine, of duty and purpose. This is what happened to the German Shepherd, Dorka. She was a bomb-detection (探测炸弹的) dog with the US Army in Afghanistan. Every day, with her owner Monte, she would look for bombs to protect the soldiers (士兵).
When the dog and her owner’s duties were over, Monte brought Dorka home with him. But he soon found that Dorka was sad. In fact, she was depressed. She missed her job and the sense of purpose it gave her. Her owner tried different things to cheer her up but nothing seemed to work. Then he had an idea.
He began hiding objects for Dorka to find. The objects had a similar smell to what Dorka had been trained to look for. He’d hide them under parked cars or other hidden places. On their walks, it would be Dorka’s job to find these hidden objects. Soon, Monte noticed Dorka’s ears stand up and that her youthful energy had returned.
“I immediately saw she was back to her happy self,” said Monte in a video he made for their TikTok channel, shared by the animal lovers’ site, The Dodo. “Seeing her happy makes me happy,” said Monte in the video.
But why did this make Dorka so happy? It seems that she once again felt her purpose in life. Dorka had kept Monte safe in the war, and now Monte was looking after Dorka. What a beautiful friendship Monte and Dorka share!

Over the years, the number of whales has dropped rapidly. From 1946 to 1986, about 340,000 whales were killed. People worry that children in the future can only see whales in pictures. They believe all kinds of whale hunting (捕猎) should be stopped before it is too late.
Some people are trying to stop whale hunting all over the world. But they fail to notice one fact. Whale hunting was going on for a long time before the number of whales went down and became a problem.
Whale hunting started as early as 1,500 years ago. This was how tribespeople (部落成员) fed their families. They hunted whales for meat because almost nothing could grow on their land. They also made whale fat into oil and used it to make candles or oil lamps. Over the years, whale hunting became their way of living, and even part of who they are.
Tribe whale hunting is not the thing we should worry about. Of all the whales that were killed over the past forty years, only 10% were hunted by tribespeople. The other 90% died at the hands of the money—making hunting business. When we try to stop all kinds of whale hunting, we should think what we are asking tribespeople to give up and whether this is the best answer to the problem of whale hunting.
66.What is the main idea of paragraph 1?
A. The problem of whale hunting. B. The reason of whale hunting.

Have you heard of a cloud forest? Is it the same as a rainforest? Actually, it's a very special kind of forest in cloudy mountains. There, clouds brush against trees and wet their leaves. Rain falls almost every day. Hundreds of mosses (苔藓) grow and cover everything like a soft green coat.
Plants of cloud forests live in an unusual way. They grow on the branches of trees instead of on the ground. The air is very damp(潮湿的), so plants can get all the water they need from the fog and rain. They live on the high parts of trees so that they can get more light to grow stronger.
There are many kinds of special animals in cloud forests. For example, tree kangaroos live in trees like monkeys. They use their long tails to balance just as monkeys do. Frogs have suckers (吸盘) on their toes so they can climb up trees and cross leaves easily. Many other special animals are waiting for us to discover, aren't they?
Cloud forests are important to people. They give us healthy food crops, such as wild beans, peppers, tomatoes, potatoes and strawberries. Furthermore, they offer new medicine to treat cancer. Unluckily, the beautiful forests are in danger now. Why? Firstly, the climate is getting warmer, but plants and animals in cloud forests like to live in a cool place. It's difficult for them to find a proper place to live. Secondly, people cut down many trees to plant crops or feed cows. The animals are losing their homes.
Once cloud forests are gone, there must be a huge loss to humans. Save the cloud forests before it's too late!
70.According to the passage, many things live in cloud forests, including ________.
①mosses ②blueberries ③frogs with suckers ④monkeys ⑤tree kangaroos
A. ①②③ B. ①③⑤ C. ②④⑤ D. ③④⑤
71.Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage?
A. We can use healthy food crops to make medicine for headaches.
B. Hundreds of mosses grow because it’s always sunny in cloud forests.
C. The animals are losing their homes because people cut down many trees.
D. Plants need more water to become strong so they grow on the high parts of trees.
72.What's the main purpose of this passage?
A. To save the cloud forests.
B. To introduce plants in cloud forests.
C. To describe the cloud forests.
D. To discover animals in cloud forests.
【答案】B、C、A

After a 10-year project to count tuna (金枪鱼) and other large fish in the world's oceans, scientists have made a very surprising discovery: these fish are almost gone. Because of too much fishing, almost 90 percent of the worldwide population of large fish—the ones we usually eat—has disappeared. If we don't act, these animals will totally disappear. That will do harm to every animal in the ocean.
The need for fish is growing. Almost a billion people around the world get their protein (蛋白质) mostly from fish. Doctors praise seafood for being low in fat. But what seems like a healthy choice for humans is causing a disaster (灾难) to our oceans. "People are using too much," says Lance Morgan, a scientist at Marine Conservation Institute.
A dish of tuna in restaurants costs more than just one animal's life. When fish like tuna disappear from the ecosystem (生态系统), the ocean's food chain (链) breaks down. Animals such as sharks, which normally eat tuna, may die because they find no food.
The news may be scary, but taking action from now on can prevent harm that hasn't happened yet. World organizations are ordering countries to stop fishing too much. The Monterey Bay Aquarium gives seafood choices to anyone hoping to keep healthy without destroying the environment.
"If you care about wildlife, first spend time and think about your own values and beliefs," says Morgan. "Then decide what you're going to eat."

74. 根据文章第二段中的“Almost a billion people around the world get their protein mostly from fish. Doctors praise seafood for being low in fat.”可知,人们喜欢吃鱼的原因是其脂肪含量低,近10亿人主要从鱼类中获取蛋白质。
75. 根据第三段中的“When fish like tuna disappear from the ecosystem… Animals such as sharks, which normally eat tuna, may die because they find no food.”可知,如果金枪鱼消失,鲨鱼可能会因为找不到食物而死。

60.Which word is close to the meaning of the underlined word "hollow" in paragraph 3?

62.Why did Dorka become depressed after returning from Afghanistan?
A. Because she missed her owner.
B. Because she missed her fellow soldier dogs.
C. Because her injuries stopped her doing her job.
D. Because she missed her job and sense of purpose.
63.How did Monte try to cheer up Dorka?
A. He took her on long walks.

C. He started hiding objects for her to find.
D. He protected her by hiding her away.
64.What was the result of Monte’s idea?
A. Dorka became even more depressed.
B. Dorka didn’t seem to notice the hidden objects.
C. Dorka’s energy and happiness returned.
D. Dorka couldn’t live a normal life without Monte.
65.What point does the author express in this story?
A. The importance of having purpose in life.
B. The cruelty of making use of dogs in wars.
C. Dogs wish to have human friends.
D. The influence of depression on animals.

C. The process of whale hunting. D. The rule of whale hunting.
67.What does the underlined word "fact" refer to in paragraph 2?
A. About 340,000 whales died from 1946 to 1986 because of whale hunting.
B. Some people worry that whales will die out and try to stop whale hunting.
C. Whale hunting started early before the number of whales dropped rapidly.
D. Whale hunting was always seen in newspapers before people noticed that.
68.Why did tribespeople hunt whales according to the passage?
A. Because they believed whales could bring good luck.
B. Because they wanted to sell whale oil to make money.
C. Because whales often made tribespeople seriously hurt.
D. Because there was almost nothing to eat on the land.
69.Which idea may the writer probably agree with?
A. We should stop all kinds of whale hunting right away.
B. There is no need to worry about the number of whales.
C. Tribespeople’s way of living is as important as animal lives.
D. The whaling business can make tribespeople’s lives better.
E

A. The problem of whale hunting. B. The reason of whale hunting.
