Passage 1
“Buffalo buffalo Buffalo buffalo buffalo buffalo Buffalo buffalo” is a real sentence.
How?
Let’s break it down, starting with a simple phrase:
Monkeys from Pisa bully deer from London.
OK, admittedly it’s an implausible scenario, but it’s a grammatically fine sentence. In English we can use place names as adjectives, so let’s shorten the sentence a little.
Pisa monkeys bully London deer.
Now we’ll throw in some giraffes from Paris to even the score with those mean monkeys.
Pisa monkeys, whom Paris giraffes intimidate, bully London deer.
English is peculiar in that you can omit relative pronouns, e. g., “the person whom I love” can be expressed as “the person I love.” Let’s do that to this sentence.
Pisa monkeys Paris giraffes intimidate bully London deer.
This kind of pronoun removal can be a little more difficult to grasp when written than when spoken. Saying the above sentence with pauses after monkeys and intimidate can help. Now we need to replace both of the verbs, intimidate and bully, with their (admittedly uncommon) synonym, buffalo.
Pisa monkeys Paris giraffes buffalo buffalo London deer.
Again, pauses help keep the meaning in mind: Put a pause after monkeys and the first buffalo. Now we’ll replace all the worldwide place names with the second-largest city in New York State, Buffalo. (That’s Buffalo’s tallest building, One Seneca Tower, below. )
Buffalo monkeys Buffalo giraffes buffalo buffalo Buffalo deer.
You can probably guess what the next step is. But before we replace all the animals with the common name for the American bison, note how the capital letters in the above sentence help you keep the place names separate from the other usages of the word. OK, here goes:
Buffalo buffalo Buffalo buffalo buffalo buffalo Buffalo buffalo.
One last thing to note: This exceptional sentence is possible because the plural of the animal buffalo is buffalo, not buffalos, otherwise all the words wouldn’t be identical.
English is strange and wonderful!
1.How should we read the following sentence with proper pauses?
A.Buffalo buffalo Buffalo/ buffalo buffalo/ buffalo Buffalo buffalo.
B.Buffalo buffalo/ Buffalo buffalo buffalo/ buffalo Buffalo buffalo.
C.Buffalo buffalo Buffalo/ buffalo buffalo buffalo/ Buffalo buffalo.
D.Buffalo buffalo/ Buffalo buffalo / Buffalo buffalo Buffalo buffalo.
2.What is the key element to make this sentence possible?
A.The relative pronouns in English can be omitted.
B.The sentence consists of words in capital letters.
C.The city has the same name with a kind of American bison.
D.The word buffalo has the same form of singular and plural.
3.Where can you probably find this article?
A.Wandering the Earth
B.Linguistics Around Us
C.Popular Animal Science
D.English Culture Review
Passage 2
Some people say that music makes the world go round and that it is to the soul what words are to the mind. Well, music and words go hand in hand when it comes to certain aspects of English! There are so many idioms based on music or instruments that are used in everyday speech! Here are some examples, which might help you to hit the right note when talking in English!
Let it go
Song: Let it go (2013) on Disney’s Frozen soundtrack
Meaning: If you “let go” of a bad feeling or memory, you stop thinking about it or being upset by it; literally, if you “let go” of something, you stop holding onto it with your hands.
Example: “I know you are upset that she left you, but you have to let it go and get on with your life.”
Turn the page
Song: Turn the page (1973) on the album Back in ’72 by Bob Seger
Meaning: If you “turn the page”, you forget about the past and start your life again after a bad period. Literally, if you “turn the page” while reading, you go to the next page in a book and start reading that one.
Example: “Six months after her divorce, she decided to turn the page and start a new relationship.”
Rock the boat
Song: Rock the boat (1974) on the album Freedom for the Stallion by the Hues Corporation
Meaning: If you “rock the boat”, you do or say something that might upset people or cause problems or trouble. Literally, if you “rock a boat” (a small one), you move it from side to side, often to frighten other people.
Example: “During the dinner, I didn’t want to rock the boat, so I kept quiet about the terrible money situation.”
Let your hair down
Song: Let your hair down (2014) on the album Don’t Kill the Magic by Magic
Meaning: If you “let your hair down”, you act more freely than usual and really enjoy yourself. Literally, if someone with long hair “lets their hair down”, they untie it and let it fall freely.
Example: “Come on, this is a party! Let your hair down and have some fun!”
Poker face
Song: Poker face (2008) on the album The Fame by Lady Gaga
Meaning: If you have a “poke face”, you have a neutral expression on your face that doesn’t show an emotion, and which doesn’t let other people know that what you are thinking or feeling. Literally, during a game of poker, players often have a “poker face” (a neutral expression), so they do not give other players any information about which cards they might have.
Example: “It is often useful to keep a poker face during business negotiations.”
1.One can comfort a friend who has failed an exam by saying “________,” as quoted in a 1970s song.

Passage 3
Glenbrook South (GBS) High School is in a suburb of Chicago, Illinois, in the United States. It is an award-winning school with a highly competent teaching staff. It has over 400 Asian Pacific American students, which account for over 17 percent of the students in the school. Of these, the majority are Korean American. This is very unusual in a state where Korean Americans are less than 1 percent of the population. The interactions of the Korean American students at GBS were the subject of an article in Asian Week magazine.
Different Korean American students react differently to being in a high school where most students are white. Professor Pyong Gap Min, an expert on Korean life in America, believes that Korean Americans in this situation can sometimes feel inhibited or ashamed of their Korean identity. Asian Week interviewed a number of GBS students, and each had a different attitude.
Alice, 18 years old“I used to spend time only with Korean American friends. Although I felt secure with those friends, I found myself motivated to form closer relationship with non-Koreans, too. I felt I was missing out on new experiences and challenges.”
Paul, 16 years old“I have some Korean American friends, but I spend most of my time with white friends. I’m often the only Asian American in the group, but I don’t mind. What I like about the white culture is that I can be more radical. I can be as loud and funny as I want to be. I don’t see as much of that among the Asian students.”
John, 17 years old“In junior high school, most of my friends were white. After coming to GBS, my sense of my Korean American identity was restored, and I decided to have mainly Korean American friends. I feel that my Korean American friends and I mainly understand each other better. For example, we understand about severe parental pressures to succeed at school; I felt my white friends couldn’t really understand.”
Without belittling the importance of what these students had to say, it’s important to remember that their opinions at this phase of their lives are bound to change as they grow into adulthood. But these honest opinions can help us better understand issues of culture relations, and their honesty might help Americans from different cultural groups to get along better in the future.
1.The passage mainly discusses __________.
A.why the state of Illinois is very special
B.how Korean American students interact among themselves and with others
C.how an Illinois high school extend a warm welcome to Korean American students
D.different opinions of the friends of Korean American students
2.Which statement best summarizes Alice’s attitude?
A.She feels that her white friends don’t really understand her
B.She likes her Korean American friends but wants to have non-Korean friends too.
C.She feels she is missing out on experiences with her Korean American fiends.
D.She doesn’t feel secure in her relationships with non-Koreans.
3.The underlined word “radical” most probably means __________.
A.traditional B.expressive C.considerate D.sensitive

Passage 2
When is the best time to...
You might think you’re in control of your schedule, but your body evolved to follow a natural rhythm. Sticking closer to that routine can help keep you in tiptoe shape.
①Drink coffee
Sipping caffeine is best early in the day. Consumed later, it can reset your body’s clock and prevent sleep. If you’re sure you can take a shot of espresso at 8 p.m. and be snoring by 10, try skipping the caffeine for a few weeks to see what a night of truly good rest feels like.
②Eat
It’s best to eat your biggest meal carly, contrary to a typical American day. Insulin – the hormone that regulates metabolism – peaks in the first half of the day, then steadily drops. So your blood sugar is less likely to skyrocket after a big breakfast than after a comparable dinner.
③Sleep
Around 8 or 9 p.m., our bodies start to cool down, and we sleep better when we have a low core body temperature. But how much shut-eye is ideal? Studies show that those who get six and a half to eight hours are less likely to die prematurely. Eight hours seems to be perfect.
④Exercise
Some people prefer early-morning jogs. But muscle tone is highest around 5 p.m. It is even the same with professional ones: West Coast NFL teams won more often and by a higher margin in matches after 8 p.m. on the East Coast. Still on Pacific time, their bodies were prepared to play.
⑤Be creative
The evolution of language, religion, and philosophy all started with late-night talks. So save that short story you’ve been meaning to write for a dark and restless night.
⑥Do math
Scientists think we reach maximum alertness between l0 a.m. and 2 p.m., with a peak around noon. For the first few hours after we wake, organs with more basic functions take priority. Once they get activated, our brains have a chance to obtain more energy.
1.The author suggests people who drink coffee late in the day _____.
A.go to bed without drinking coffee
B.break their habit and go to bed early
C.stick to their habit to have a truly good sleep
D.go to bed just two hours after drinking coffee
2.Joanna is a promising young writer whose microblog enjoys one million followers. What is probably the best time for her to writer inspiring stories for her fans?
A.8 a.m. B.10 a.m. C.6 p.m. D.11 p.m.
3.Which of the following statements is true according to the passage?
A.Having a higher body temperature helps people sleep better.
B.Students should work on their math tasks as soon as they get up because their brain works best at the time.
C.Professional athletes are likely to achieve better results when training in the late afternoon than in the early morning.
D.Americans usually have their biggest meal in the morning.
Passage 3
Are You a Moring Person?
Mornings are not for everyone. Knowing that our own bodies may be wired to prefer a certain time of day is certainly a relief. But many of us still have to wake up and function during those first daylight hours. So what can you do?
We tapped a variety of experts - from sleep experts to nutritionists to life organizational pros (生活管理达人) — to share their tricks on how to make morning less stressful and more pleasant for even the most after-hours of night owls.
1. Night waking
Poor sleep quality can explain why we sometimes wake up from eight hours of snoozing and feel like we only clocked in at four. “It’s normal to have one or two awakenings, but more than that leaves us feeling groggy (昏昏沉沉) in the morning because of the fragmented sleep,” explains Shelby Harris, director of the behavioral sleep medicine program at Montefiore Medical Center.
2. The Science of snoozing
The snooze button does more harm than good. Nodding off again sends you into a light and fragmented sleep! Multiple snoozes can leave you feeling groggier than just getting out of bed the first time. Instead, be honest about the time you intend to get up and then enjoy every last minute of sleep, so you can wake up alert and ready to go.
3. Don’t ease into your workday
It can be tempting to plow through the easy things early on—checking e-mail, scanning the headlines—but it’s wise to tackle the bigger stuff first. “Getting to work on the most important tasks not only ups the chances that they actually get done, but it also leaves you with a burst of accomplishment to take with you the rest of the day,” says Jason Selk, coauthor of Organize Tomorrow Today.
4. Save social media for later
Schedule a social media block later in the afternoon to check in when you’re likely to need a break anyway, and save the morning for the important stuff.
1.What’s the purpose of the passage?
A.To help us to get the most out of our mornings.
B.To relieve us from the guilt of multiple snoozes in the morning.
C.To warn us of the harm of not getting out of bed immediately.
D.To inform us about the fact that our bodies are wired to prefer a certain time of day.
2.Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage?
A.One or two awakenings ensure us a good night’s sleep.
B.To be an early bird, better forget about the snooze button.
C.It’s important not to block social medium if you want to save your morning.
D.Beginning a day with easy things aroused our interest and a sense of accomplishment.
3.Where can we find the passage?
A.Classified Advertisement B.Travel Brochure
C.Life and Study D.Scientific Journal

Passage 3
Packing lists will vary based on where you’ re going and how long you’ re traveling, but the best travel accessories (配件) can improve every trip. Taking the right things means a smoother journey, every time. Below, we’ve rounded up some accessories to pack.
Discover the best travel accessories:
•A trusted tote
•A travel toiletry bag
•A tray table cover
•A portable steamer
•A tech kit
•A power adapter
•… (to discover more, click here)
A trusted tote
A tote is the perfect personal bag during a flight — it’s roomy enough to store all your bits and pieces, and is usually pretty pliable, meaning you can press it under the seat without taking up all the room for your feet. It’s also easy to carry while you’ re rushing through the airport.
A travel toiletry bag
It is key to keeping your belongings organized. We all like those with their good space for toothbrush, soaps and other necessary things in bathrooms. No matter where you’ re headed, and who you’ re traveling with, you should certainly choose a hanging toiletry bag that allows you to keep things tidy and off the bathroom table.
A tray table cover
This has become one of the most popular in-flight travel necessities. It covers the surface — so you can eat and work off of it without worrying that the surface might not be clean enough. Another advantage: it has four pockets to store must-haves like your passport, phone, etc.
A portable steamer
If you’ re traveling to a wedding or heading out on a business trip, you may want a steamer to make your formal wear look its best after you take it out of your bag. A portable steamer can get the job done and at the same time it’s light and small and easy to pack.
A tech kit
Like every traveler, you have plenty of tools that need charging (充电). Save space in your bag — and save yourself the headache of digging through your bag — by keeping relevant things in place in a tech kit.
A power adapter
For international travel, a power adapter is a must to get your smart phone, among other things, charged up at the airport or in your hotel room.

Passage 1
WHAT IS SEA FOAM?
Ocean decay and pollution contribute to this frothy lining on Earth’s oceans
WORDS SCOTT DUTFIELD
After a particularly windy day, the sea is often left with a frothy residue covering its surface that spans over the sandy shoreline. These frothy tremors are usually marine matter that has been churned up by the waves. Making up this foam are particles of salts, fats, proteins, algae, plankton and bacteria that surround air bubbles to form a light, fluffy substance. This foam that collects along coastlines helps recycle the nutrients of the oceans. The organic matter that accumulates in the foam is used onto land. As waves and wind transport the foam, the shoreline microbes and bacteria decompose the contents of the foam and release the nutrients into the surrounding environment. These nutrients can help plants such as algae and seagrasses grow, which marine life feeds on. In controlled volumes, sea foam assists the nutrient cycle and improves the health of marine ecosystems.
FOAM FORMATION
How does dead tissue produce this frothy consistency?
ORGANISM BREAKUP
As marine life decays, proteins and fats from their bodies are deposited in small molecules called surfactants.
HYDROPHILIC
The water-loving ends of a surfactant molecule attract water and face away from the foam. This keeps the foam at the water’s surface.
MICELLE
Trapped air from the wind and waves forms as bubbles on the water, surrounded by a layer of surfactants. These spheres are called micelles.
HYDROPHOBIC
The water-fearing ends of the surfactant molecule face inward and don’t dissolve in water, such as gases in air.
FOAM
The movement of water at the surface energizes the surfactants to trap air bubbles. When multiple micelles congregate, foam is produced.
IS IT TOXIC?
Sea foam is a natural dispersal of nutrients, and can provide a protective microscopic crustacean layer that is beneficial for marine life, but too much foam can be toxic. Sometimes sea foam builds up following large algal blooms at the shoreline. The decaying algae release toxins when the foam bubbles pop, making them airborne and easy for humans and animals to inhale. Sea foam is likely to cause irritation in asthmatic people. When sea foam is produced from the release of pollution into the water, there can be oil, pesticides, sewage or other types of pollution in it. This type of sea foam is usually darker in colour and is much more detrimental to marine life that ingested.
Darker sea foam is more likely to contain pollutants.
1.Which of the following is NOT a potential consequence of sea foam mentioned in the article?
A.Nutrient cycling for marine ecosystems.
B.The release of toxic gases into the air.
C.Providing habitats for microscopic animals.
D.Reducing oxygen levels in the ocean.
2.What is the main role of micelles in foam formation?
A.To release surface into the water.
B.To trap air bubbles using a layer of surfactants.
C.To ensure surfactants remain dissolved in water.
D.To make foam darker in color due to pollutants.
3.Where does this text most probably come from?
A.A tourist brochure. B.A scientific journal.
C.A government report. D.An educational magazine.
Passage 2
Whether you are attracted by landscapes or the after-effects of weather, there are photo opportunities everywhere. The following photography tips from photographers will help you shoot your best shot.Get to know your subject and their habits
Take time to get to know your local wildlife before shooting, and you might just capture something truly special. Try to shoot from the perspective of the animal you are filming. Resist the urge to just point and click — take the time to observe local wildlife and you will see the rewards in your photos.Capture details in a close-up
Going in close can bring some fascinating rewards in nature photography. Zooming (聚焦) into plants with frost or picking up water drops on a spider’s web can help show the beauty we might miss in everyday life. If you’re zooming in on one particular subject, such as a bee landing on a flower, you could end up with soft-focus objects in the background to create added interest.Shoot photos at best time of day
There are no hard and fast rules when it comes to timing, and a shadow or lots of natural sunlight can produce great results — it’s just best to avoid extremes. Too much bright light hitting your camera lens (镜头) sensor will result in an overexposed photo with little detail, while a dark sky full of stars might provide too much contrast between the background and the subject you are taking pictures of.Capture sharp, clear images
Although the delete button can be your best friend, a few things will help you avoid unclear images. Keeping the camera stable is key, whether that’s through a solid pose as you stand ready to shoot or using a support. A self-timer can also be a handy tool for keeping your hands away from dials and settings once you have chosen your shot.
1.Which of the following is the benefit of “zooming in” in shooting?
A.It may be an aid to capture the delicate beauty in daily life.
B.It may be helpful to avoid overexposing photos with little detail.
C.It may bring about deleting the background to create added interest.
D.It may contribute to focusing on several particular subjects at a time.
2.What is a photographer recommended to do to shoot satisfactory photos?
A.Chase the running rabbit when shooting. B.Follow his instinct when shooting.
C.Shoot in bright daylight at midday. D.Use a stable stand when shooting.
3.You will find the tips above most useful if you want to take photos _____.
A.at a wedding ceremony B.while visiting an art gallery
C.on an excursion to the countryside D.while walking on the street in a city

根据第五段的 “Saying the above sentence with pauses after monkeys and intimidate can help. Now we need to replace both of the verbs, intimidate and bully, with their (admittedly uncommon) synonym, buffalo. (说上面的句子,在猴子和恐吓后停顿会有帮助。现在我们需要把这两个动词 “恐吓” (intimidate)和 “欺负” (bully)都替换成它们的同义词 “buffalo” (公认是不常见的))”可知,应该在第二个词和第五个词停顿,故选B项。
2.细节理解题。根据最后一段 “One last thing to note: This exceptional sentence is possible because the plural of the animal buffalo is buffalo, not buffalos, otherwise all the words wouldn’t be identical. (最后要注意的一点是:之所以会出现这个例外的句子,是因为动物buffalo的复数形式是buffalo,而不是buffalos,否则所有的单词就不一样了)” 可知,buffalo这个单词单复数形式一样,故选D项。
3.推理判断题。根据第一段 “Let’s break it down, starting with simple phrase: (让我们从简单的短语开始分解它)” 以及第二段 “In English, we can use place names as adjective, so let’s shorten the sentence a little.(在英语中,我们可以用地名作为形容词,所以让我们把句子缩短一点)” 结合全文内容对“Buffalo, buffalo, Buffalo, buffalo, buffalo, buffalo, Buffalo, buffalo”这个句子的解释与拆分可知,文章内容主要研究句子的组成和拆分规律,由此可推断这篇文章最有可能出现在“Linguistics Around Us(我们周围的语言学)” ,故选B项。

故选A项。
通读全文,尤其是第一段中“There are so many idioms based on music or instruments that are used in everyday speech! Here are some examples, which might help you to hit the right note when talking in English! (日常生活中有很多与音乐或乐器有关的习语!这里有一些例子,可以帮助你英语说得恰到好处)”可知,文章为读者介绍了来自流行歌曲名中的五个习语,解释了其意义,并给出了用法示例。因此,D项“流行歌名中的常用习语”最契合文章主旨,适合作为文章标题。故选D项。
根据全文内容及第一段中的“The interactions of the Korean American students at GBS were the subject of an article in Asian Week magazine.(《亚洲周刊》杂志上有一篇文章讨论了在GBS的韩裔美国学生之间的互动)”和第二段中的“Asian Week interviewed a number of GBS students, and each had a different attitude.(《亚洲周刊》采访了多位GBS的学生,每位学生的态度都不相同)”可知,文章主要探讨了不同韩裔美国学生在一所多数学生为白人的高中的互动情况及个人感受。
根据框中第一个学生Alice所说的话中“Although I felt secure with those friends, I found myself motivated to form closer relationship with non-Koreans, too. I felt I was missing out on new experiences and challenges.(虽然我和那些朋友在一起感到很安心,但我发现自己也有了与非韩国人建立更亲密关系的动力。
因此,最接近“radical”意思的选项是B“expressive(表达力强的)”。故选B。

And why stay inside in the afternoon when you can study by the beach or in a bar? That’s right. That’s the way we teach.(“城市是我的教室!” 故选A项。

根据文章倒数第二段“Dealing with Depression is intended for: * teens with depressed mood * concerned adults who want to help a depressed teen * other teens who want to help a friend or family member (应对抑郁症的目的是: *情绪低落的青少年 *关心的成年人想帮助一个抑郁的青少年 *其他想帮助朋友或家人的青少年。)”
Jane Garland M.D., F.R.C.P.(C)(E·简·加兰医学博士F.R.C.P.(C))”以及文章倒数第三段“Dealing with Depression is based on the experience of the authors and on scientific research about which strategies work best in overcoming depression. (《应对抑郁症》基于作者们的经验,以及关于哪些策略在克服抑郁症方面最为有效的科学研究。)”可知,漫画下面提到的四个人是《应对抑郁症》的四位共同作者;且漫画中有四位卡通人物,由此可推测,这四个卡通人物正是《应对抑郁症》的四位共同作者。故选D项。

4.推理判断题。根据文章倒数第三段“Dealing with Depression is based on the experience of the authors and on scientific research about which strategies work best in overcoming depression. Also, because strategies useful for adults may not be useful for adolescents, depressed and non-depressed teens helped in the development of this guide. (《应对抑郁症》是基于作者们的经验和关于哪些策略最能克服抑郁症的科学研究。此外,由于对成年人有用的策略可能对青少年没有帮助,抑郁和非抑郁青少年在本指南的制定中起到了帮助作用。)”、文章最后一段“This guide is meant to provide teens with accurate information about depression. It is not a psychological or medical treatment, and is not a replacement for treatment where this is needed. (本指南旨在为青少年提供有关抑郁症的准确信息。它不是一种心理或医疗治疗,也不是需要治疗的替代品。)”以及结合文章内容可知,文章通篇介绍的是《应对抑郁症(Dealing with Depression)》这本指导手册的内容、作者及其背景等内容;由此可推断,本文是一本指导手册的介绍。故选B项。
【答案】1.A 2.D 3.C
根据①Drink coffee部分最后一句“If you’re sure you can take a shot of espresso at 8 p.m. and be snoring by 10, try skipping the caffeine for a few weeks to see what a night of truly good rest feels like. (如果你确信你可以在晚上8点喝一杯浓缩咖啡,到10点就会打鼾,那就试着在几周内不喝咖啡因,看看晚上真正的好休息是什么感觉。)”可知,作者劝告晚上喝咖啡的人们尝试别喝咖啡,然后就能改善睡眠。故选A项。
根据⑤Be creative部分“The evolution of language, religion, and philosophy all started with late-night talks. So save that short story you’ve been meaning to write for a dark and restless night. (语言、宗教和哲学的演变都始于深夜的谈话。所以,把你一直想写的短篇小说留到一个黑暗而不安的夜晚吧。)”可知,人在晚上有着不同的思维模式,适合进行创作、构思创意。题目中Joanna要给粉丝写故事,最佳的时间也应该选在晚上。故选D项。
3.细节理解题。根据④Exercise部分中“But muscle tone is highest around 5 p.m. It is even the same with professional ones: West Coast NFL teams won more often and by a higher margin in matches after 8 p.m. on the East Coast. (但是肌肉张力在下午5点左右是最高的。甚至职业球队也是如此:西海岸的NFL球队在东海岸晚上8点之后的比赛中获胜的几率更高,优势也更大。)”可知,下午五点时人的肌肉张力达到峰值,后面举出了例子证实运动员在傍晚取得的成绩更佳,D选项“专业运动员在傍晚训练比在早上更有可能取得好成绩”符合文意。故选C项。
【答案】1.A 2.B 3.C
文章第二段讲到“to share their tricks on how to make morning less stressful and more pleasant for even the most after-hours of night owls (分享他们的诀窍,如何让即使是最晚下班的夜猫子也能减轻早晨的压力,让早晨更愉快)”可知,这篇文章的目的是帮助我们充分利用早晨。故选A。
文章The Science of snoozing讲到“The snooze button does more harm than good. Nodding off again sends you into a light and fragmented sleep (小睡按钮弊大于利。再次打瞌睡会让你进入一种轻微的、支离破碎的睡眠)”可知,打盹按弊大于利最好不要小睡。所以B选项“作为一个早起的人,最好忘记打盹的按钮。”正确。故选B。
3.推理判断题。短文介绍了如何让人们早晨的压力更小、更愉快,以便更能充分利用早晨。文章第二段讲到“But many of us still have to wake up and function during those first daylight hours. We tapped a variety of experts – from sleep experts to nutritionists to life organizational pros (但我们中的许多人仍然必须在最初的白天醒来并正常工作。我们聘请了各种各样的专家—从睡眠专家到营养学家,再到生活组织专家)”可知,所以这篇短文是关于生活,工作和学习类的短文。故判断出我们可以在“生活和学习”中找到这篇短文。故选C。

1.Which of the following is a travel toiletry bag?
A. B.
C. D.
2.If your father travels from Shanghai to Beijing for a business meeting by train, which of the following will the writer probably suggest him taking?
A.A power adapter. B.A trusted tote.
C.A tray table cover. D.A portable steamer.
3.The passage is written to ________.
A.show strengths of travelling necessities B.advertise useful items for a trip
C.share practical travelling accessories D.discuss how to pack for a trip

No matter where you’ re headed, and who you’ re traveling with, you should certainly choose a hanging toiletry bag that allows you to keep things tidy and off the bathroom table.(这是让你的物品井然有序的关键。
根据A portable steamer部分中“If you’ re traveling to a wedding or heading out on a business trip, you may want a steamer to make your formal wear look its best after you take it out of your bag.(如果你要去参加婚礼或出差,你可能需要一个熨斗,让你的正装从包里拿出来后看起来最好)”可知,如果你的父亲乘火车从上海到北京参加一个商务会议,作者可能会建议他带上便携式熨斗。故选D。
根据第一段“Packing lists will vary based on where you’ re going and how long you’ re traveling, but the best travel accessories (配件) can improve every trip. Taking the right things means a smoother journey, every time.
根据WORDS SCOTT DUTFIELD部分中的“In controlled volumes, sea foam assists the nutrient cycle and improves the health of marine ecosystems.(在可控的量下,海泡沫有助于营养循环,并改善海洋生态系统的健康)”表明“海洋生态系统的养分循环”是后果之一、根据IS IT TOXIC? 部分中的“The decaying algae release toxins when the foam bubbles pop, making them airborne and easy for humans and animals to inhale.(当泡沫破裂时,腐烂的藻类会释放毒素,使其进入空气中,容易被人类和动物吸入)”可知,沫泡沫破裂时会释放毒素到空气中,所以“有毒气体向空气中的释放”是另一个后果,根据IS IT TOXIC? 部分中的“Sea foam is a natural dispersal of nutrients, and can provide a protective microscopic crustacean layer that is beneficial for marine life, but too much foam can be toxic.(海泡沫是一种自然的营养物质扩散形式,它能形成一层具有保护作用的微型甲壳类生物层,这对海洋生物有益,但过多的泡沫可能具有毒性)”可知,海泡沫提供保护性微小甲壳动物层,暗示了为微生动物提供栖息地,所以“为微型动物提供栖息地”也是其后果之一,由此可知,A、B、C项均是文中提到的海泡沫可能带来的结果,而D项“降低海洋中的氧气水平”未被提及。故选D项。
根据MICELLE部分中的“Trapped air from the wind and waves forms as bubbles on the water, surrounded by a layer of surfactants. These spheres are called micelles.(风浪中被困的空气在水面上形成气泡,周围环绕着一层表面活性剂。
【答案】1.A 2.D 3.C
