Students can understand and use sentences to describe an accident Cultural Awareness Students know that people who know first aid will give help when accidents happen, and calling an ambulance is an important way to deal with serious accidents. Thinking Quality 1.Students can think about the causes of the accident and learn to analyze simple accident situations. 2.Students can think about how to stay safe in daily life. Learning Ability 1.Students can improve their reading ability by reading the news report about the accident. 2.Students can work in pairs to discuss accidents and safety, improving their cooperative learning ability. 二、Teaching Key Points Students can master key words and phrases and use simple past tense to describe past actions in the letters. 三、Teaching Difficult Points 1. Differentiating serious ( injury severity ) from safe ( safety of actions ). 2. Conveying natural emotions in role - play 四、Teaching Aids PPT 五、Teaching Procedures Step1 Warm - up The teacher shows some pictures of safe behaviors (like crossing the street at the zebra crossing) and unsafe behaviors (like running across the street) on the PPT. Ask students: What do you see in the pictures? Which behaviors are safe? Which are not? Let students discuss in pairs and then share their ideas. Step2 Presentation Vocabulary Teaching: - Show the word card "accident". An accident is something bad that happens suddenly. - Show the word card "hurt". Say: "If you are hurt, you are injured." - Show the word card "ambulance". Step3 Reading Pre - reading: - Ask students the "THINK ABOUT IT" questions: What do you need to do when you cross the street? What should you do when you see someone badly hurt in an accident? - Let students share their answers. While - reading: - Ask students to read the news report quickly and match the actions with the right person.(on the blackboard) - Then ask students to read the text carefully and answer the following questions: When did the accident happen? Why did Ann run onto the street? What did Mrs. Andrews see? What did the driver do after the accident? Walk around the classroom to help students who have difficulties. Post - reading: - Let students retell the accident in their own words with the help of key words and sentences. Step4 Practice Role - play: Divide students into groups of four. Let them role - play the accident scene: one student is Ann, one is James, one is Mrs. Andrews, and one is the driver. They can use the sentences and vocabulary learned in the lesson. Step5 Summary and Homework Summary: 1.The teacher summarizes the key vocabulary and sentences of this lesson with the help of PPT. 2.Emphasize the importance of safety and knowing what to do in accidents.
