Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, but many people don’t have it. Common reasons for not eating breakfast include not having enough time, not feeling hungry, and dieting (节食).
Breakfast simply means “break the fast”. You eat nothing for at least 6 to 12 hours each night. Even though you have been sleeping, you have still been burning energy (能量). And in the morning your body needs energy for the day’s work ahead.
A good breakfast should give you up to 1/3 of your total calories (卡路里) that your body needs for the day. Generally speaking, we eat 400 fewer calories for breakfast than for dinner. If breakfast doesn’t interest you in the morning, try eating a lighter dinner earlier in the evening or save half your dinner for breakfast in the morning.
If you still aren’t hungry in the morning, start with something small like juice or bread or have a healthy mid-morning snack later when you are hungry.
So, you say you’re on a diet. Some people are afraid that eating breakfast will make them hungrier during the day and they will eat more. It is true that eating breakfast is possible to make you feel hungry throughout the day. That’s because your body is working correctly. Although you may feel as if you are eating more all day long, in fact you’re probably not.
Not having breakfast can make you overeat, because a fall in blood sugar often makes you feel hungry later. To make things worse, since your body is working slowly, it will not be able to burn those extra calories well. If you feed your body healthy snacks and meals throughout the day, you may not become hungry so easily and eat too much when you have meals.
Since breakfast is the first and most important meal of the day, your choice is important. The best breakfast foods are fruit, juice, and grain products such as bread, rice, noodles and cereals.
25. According to the passage, what is the result of not having breakfast?
A. It can make people overeat. B. It can make people lose weight.
C. It can make people lose interest in breakfast. D. It can make people fall down.
26. What can we learn from the passage?
A. Breakfast gives us most of the energy for the day.
B. Eating breakfast helps our body work well.
C Eating breakfast may help to save dinner.
D. Breakfast might make people overweight.
27. What’s the passage mainly about?
A. It’s mainly about breakfast and dieting. B. It’s mainly about what to eat for breakfast.
C. It’s mainly about breakfast and energy. D. It’s mainly about the importance of breakfast.

I have a question for all of us. Is all winning success? Winning is really, really fun. But I am here to share my idea: Winning does not always equal success.
All around the world, we have created the win-at-all-cost culture. As a society, we honor the champion (冠军). We cheer for those people who win championships. Winning at all costs has become acceptable. We have become so focused on that end result instead of the process, and particularly when the end result is a win, usually how we got there often gets swept under the proverbial rug.
We need to redefine (重新定义) success. Real success is developing champions in life for our world, win or lose. We may be able to plan our way to a win, but we can’t plan our way to success.
Back to 1990, when I was first made the head coach of the UCLA Women’s Gymnastics Team, the best I could do was what other “successful” coaches had done. So, I became tough-talking and mean. I acted like a head coach whose only thought was to figure out how to win.
After putting up with me for a few years, our team asked me for a team meeting. And for over two hours, they gave me examples of how my arrogance (傲慢) was hurtful. That was my time-out, and I chose to change. I realized that I needed to support our student athletes as whole human beings, not just athletes who won.
It is so much easier to give orders than to actually figure out how to motivate (激励) someone to be better. And the motivation takes a really long time to take root. The key ingredient was to develop trust through patience and honesty.
Let’s think about what you are talking with your parents on the car ride home. Are they focusing on the end result? Are you excited to use that time to show you are a winner? All of you care too much about the end result instead of your steps of learning.
We are all coaches in some ways. We all have the responsibility to develop champions in life for our world. That is what real success looks like, and that is what we call a win-win.
28. The underlined phrase “gets swept under the proverbial rug” probably means “_________”.
A. shows the result B. does some harm
C. catches little attention D. decides the success
29. The writer mentions his experience as the head coach to show _________.
A. it’s difficult to be a coach
B. how his team won championships
C. why his team asked him for a meeting
D. it’s better to motivate others than to give orders
30. Which of the following is a real success in life?
A. A kid who shows the medals and prizes he won to his parents.
B. A player who tries to win a gold medal at the cost of his health.
C. A coach who respects his members even though the team didn’t win.
D. A parent who keeps asking about the grades his kid gets in the exams.
31. The writer probably agrees that _________.
A. we shouldn’t plan for the end result
B. winning doesn’ t always mean success
C. a good coach often wants his team to win
D. it’ s time for us to change the way we live

阅读短文,根据其内容回答问题。
During my childhood, I didn’t have much interest in reading. However, when I entered middle school, I began listening to audiobooks and grew to love it. Now, I manage to finish a couple of audiobooks each month.
While reading a printed book allows more freedom to re-read paragraphs that you didn’t quite catch, go back to look something up from earlier in the book or even write down some notes in the margin (页边空白), audiobooks have their own benefits. They are especially enjoyable and convenient for both kids and adults. Besides, you can multitask while listening and get through books faster.
I often listen to audiobooks before reading paper ones in order to better understand some difficult parts. Listening is necessary for all kinds of learning, including reading. I can now enjoy longer books that I might not have had the patience to read, and my ability to focus on audiobooks carries over to my skill in focusing on a written text.
To me, the coolest thing about audiobooks is the role of the narrator (朗读者). When you listen to audiobooks, the narrators do much of the “work” for you, which can be very pleasing when they are skilled. I like the sense of reading with someone who understands and loves the material. I remember listening to Charlie and the Chocolate Factory narrated by the author (作者) himself. It was a truly magical experience!
Audiobooks have become a big part of my life. At home, I love sitting on the sofa, losing myself in a good story, and then I share my thoughts with my parents. It’s not just about enjoying a good book; it’s about creating shared moments and conversations.
Audiobooks have changed my life. They make reading fun by bringing stories to life through skilled narrators and discussing audiobooks with family adds a joyful richness to my everyday moments.

A. Breakfast gives us most of the energy for the day.

C. Eating breakfast may help to save dinner.
D. Breakfast might make people overweight.
27. What’s the passage mainly about?
A. It’s mainly about breakfast and dieting. B. It’s mainly about what to eat for breakfast.
C It’s mainly about breakfast and energy.

Audiobooks have changed my life They make reading fun by bringing stories to life through skilled narrators and discussing audiobooks with family adds a joyful richness to my everyday moments.
32. When did the writer begin listening to audiobooks?
