The Evolution of Aerospace:Trends and Prospects
The aerospace industry is on the limit of a revolutionary era, driven by technological
advancements,sustainability goals,and evolving geopolitical dynamics.As we approach
2025,several key trends are set to redefine this dynamic sector.
Artificial Intelligence (Al)and autonomous systems are becoming deeply embedded in
aerospace and defense.AI is enhancing air traffic control and flight management,optimi-
zing()light paths,and improving fuel efficiency.Autonomous aircraft,including
drones and eVTOLs (electric Vertical Takeoff and Landing vehicles),are rapidly advan-
cing. These innovations promise to revolutionize urban air mobility and military operations.
英语试题(九)第3页(共8页)
The industry is also focusing on reducing its environmental impact.Electric and hy-
brid-electric aircraft are being developed by companies like Airbus and Boeing.Sustainable
Aviation Fuels(SAFs)and advanced materials like carbon fiber composites(复合材料)are
also gaining traction().These efforts aim to make air travel more eco-friendly.
Space remains a critical domain()for both commercial and defense interests.Pri-
vate companies like SpaceX and Blue Origin are driving the commercialization of space.By
2025,we can expect significant advancements in space tourism, satellite launches, and lu-
nar exploration.Governments are also increasing their focus on space defense, developing
anti-satellite weapons and missile defense systems.
Despite these advancements, the aerospace industry faces several challenges.Supply
chain issues, workforce shortages, and geopolitical tensions are major concerns. However,
the industry is adapting through AI-driven solutions, strategic partnerships and increased
investment in cybersecurity.
By 2025,the aerospace industry will be shaped by the integration of Al,the commer-
cialization of space, and a growing emphasis on sustainability. These trends will create new
opportunities and challenges, requiring innovation and adaptability. As the industry navi-
gates these changes,it will continue to play a crucial role in global security, economic de-
velopment,and technological progress.
24.How is AI being used in the aerospace industry?
A.To reduce the number of flights.

Could a new treatment developed by the US company Lilly mean"the beginning of the
end"of Alzheimer's?Could we even cure it some day? These are headlines and questions
swirling ()around after news of a new drug, called donanemab, showed promising re-
sults in phase-3 trials.
The brain science behind Alzheimer's is complex, but CT and MRJ scans suggest that
poisonous changes occur in the brain, including the abnormal build-up of proteins called am-
yloid plaques and tau tangles. The damage starts in the parts of the brain essential for
forming memories but then spreads throughout the organ, with brain tissue shrinking sig-
nificantly.
Developing treatments for Alzheimer's has been a challenge, with almost 20 years
passing with no new drugs. But in the last year, two new ones have emerged:donanemab
and lecanemab.Neither are cures or magic bullets for the disease, but they do address key
symptoms. They target the amyloid proteins that can accumulate in the brain and damage
neurons,slowing down its progression.
While this news is exciting, there are major caveats. One is whether it will ever be-
come available on the NHS.The cost is estimated to be about f20,000 per person per year
of treatment.
英语试题(九)第4页(共8页)
Another is the serious side effects:in the study, brain swelling occurred in 24%0 of
participants and brain bleeding occurred in 31.4%on the drug compared with 13.6%0 in the
placebo(安慰剂)group. There were also three deaths during the trial.
Part of the problem for me,as an academic,in assessing the drug is that the full results
of the trial haven't yet been shared publicly or published in a peer-review journal. We can-
not access the full data or examine the trial yet,and there is always a motivation for private
companies to overstate the effectiveness of new drugs.Trial results need to be assessed by
an independent body of experts.
While it is unlikely to change clinical practice until at least 2025,the news of donanem-
ab is again an indication that science is continuing to make progress when it comes to trea-
ting the major causes of illness and death, even one related to the highly complex inner
workings of the brain. So,there are caveats and the need for caution, but these new drugs
are indeed the grounds for that rare thing these days:hope.
28.What can we learn about Alzheimer's from the passage?
A.There exists a new drug to cure it completely.
B.Most people will develop Alzheimer's when they are old.
C.It is caused by the accumulation of some proteins in the brain.
D.It results from the loss of memories as people get older.
29.What does the underlined word "caveats"mean in Paragraph 4?
A.Warnings.
B.Discussions.
C.Debates.
D.Weaknesses.
30.What is the problem of the new drug according to the author as an academic?
A.It has serious side effects such as brain bleeding and deaths.
B.The effectiveness may be blown up without fair assessment.
C.The cost of the new drug is out of reach for ordinary people.
D.There is no possibility for new drugs to be admitted into the NHS.
31.What is the author's attitude towards the new drug?
A.Approving.
B.Doubtful.
C.Unclear.
D.Indifferent.

Scientists have known for many years that houseplants benefit people's well-being.
Now researchers have found a way to make plants even better for human health.Using a
method called genetic modification(GM),they raised plants that reduce indoor air pollu-
tion.GM means changing a plant or an animal by altering its DNA,including adding DNA
from another species.
Indoor air pollution is produced by cleaning products, cooking, and dust, among other
things, and it can be bad for people's health. In 1989,research done by NASA found that
houseplants could clean the air in a home.Later studies, however, showed that plants ac-
tually made too small a difference to help much.Since then, scientists have been experi-
menting with the DNA of certain potted plants to try to create one that will reduce more air
pollution.
In 2018,scientists from the University of Washington decided to adapt a houseplant
called pothos,or devil's ivy, which is popular and easy to care for.The team inserted new
DNA based on a chemical found in a rabbit's liver. In the animal, the chemical breaks
down harmful substances. The team found that the new DNA made the plant better at ab-
sorbing pollution.
Lately,a company called Neoplants added more DNA,from two types of bacteria. As
the devil's ivy grew, the team studied it carefully.Tests suggested that it was up to 30
times better at sucking pollution than the non-GM plants that NASA tested back in 1989.
The company is also planning to add bacteria to the soil that comes with the plant, which
could help break down even more polluting gases.
There is more work to be done, but the team at Neoplants plans
to use this technology in other types of houseplants. If all goes well,
the company hopes people in the US will be able to decorate their
homes with pollution-destroying plants by next year.Another com-
pany,Origen Air,sells a plant-based system that cleans the air in businesses and homes. It is cur-
rently available in Canada.
英语试题(九)第5页(共8页)
32.Why did scientists use the method called GM?
A.To increase the chance of indoor plants'survival.
B.To find a new way to improve human health.
C.To grow houseplants to reduce indoor air pollution
D.To separate certain houseplants from other species.
33.How did scientists adapt the houseplant pothos?
A.By adding DNA from another species.
B.By replacing the soil regularly.
C.By breaking down harmful substances.
D.By exposing the plant to a special rabbit.
34.What is the result of the test about Neoplants'GM plant?
A.It had no effect on the soil.
B.It absorbed more air pollution.
C.It cost more than the non-GM plants.
D.It produced even more polluting gases.
35.What do we know about the pollution-destroying plants?
A.They are well received both in the US and in Canada.
B.People in the US are using them to decorate their homes.
C.They can completely clean the air in businesses and homes.
D.There is still a long way to go to make them widely available.

2025 marks the 60th anniversary of the Red Flag Canal's completion,a "man-made
sky river'”carved along the Taihang Mountains, which is more than a hydraulic(水利的)
miracle with a total of 1,250 hilltops cut,211 tunnels dug through.36 This
1,500 km water system ended centuries of drought in Linxian County, rewriting the desti-
ny(命运)of about560,000 people..
In the 1960s,facing extreme water shortages, local farmers led by Secretary Yang Gui
embarked on a great endeavor.37 Using ropes to go down cliffs and oil lamps for tun-
nel lighting, these determined builders hand-chiseled(用手工凿)l.25 million cubic meters
of rock.Historical records show workers consumed 55 tons of steel making drill bits alone
enough to build three Eiffel Towers. They created what UNESCO later called "a spirit of
human courage'”.
The construction was a symphony of sacrifice().Engineer Wu Zutai died holding
blueprints;labor hero Ren Yangcheng was disabled during cliff repairs;volunteer Li
Gaiyun lost her leg saving teammates.38
Their stories, preserved in the channel's museum alongside 3,000+rusting tools,
testify to Chairman Yang's words:"This water flows with our collective soul.
Today, the canal sustains ecosystems beyond imagination.39 Advanced irrigation
systems now water about 370,000 acres of fields, while newly planted forests prevent soil
erosion. In 2023,it gained global recognition as it was included in the tentative list of
World Heritage Irrigation Structures.
40 At Qingniandong Tunnel, college students reenact construction scenes
through VR;livestreamers share canal stories to 20 million followers. As 85-year-old build-
er Wang Huimin remarks:"The spirit that moved mountains now moves young hearts."

knocked into a tall boy from the fifth grade running in the opposite direction.
“Watch it,.squirt(矮子).”The boy yelled as he passed by the little third-grader.
Then, with a bad smile on his face, the boy took hold of his right leg and copied the way
Amy limped(跛行)when she walked.
Amy closed her eyes.Ignore him,she told herself as she headed for her classroom.
But at the end of the day,Amy was still thinking about the tall boy's mean teasing. It
wasn't as if he were the only one.It seemed that ever since Amy started the third grade,
someone teased her every single day.Kids teased her about her speech or her limping.Amy
was tired of it.
Back home at the dinner table that evening,Amy was quiet. Her mother knew that
things were not going well at school. That's why Patti Hagadorn was happy to have some
exciting news to share with her daughter.
"There's a Christmas wish contest on the radio station,"Amy's mom announced.
"Write a letter to Santa, and you might win a prize."
Amy giggled. The contest sounded like fun.She started thinking about what she wan-
ted most for Christmas.
A smile took hold of Amy when the idea first came to her.Out came pencil and paper,
and Amy went to work on her letter.
Dear Santa Claus,
My name is Amy.I am nine years old.I have a problem at school. Can you help me
Santa?Kids laugh at me because of the way I walk and run and talk.I have a serious dis-
ease.I just want one day where no one laughs at me or makes fun of me.Love,Amy.
注意:1.续写词数应为150左右;2.请按如下格式作答。
When Amy's letter arrived at the radio station, manager Lee Tobin read it carefully.
Suddenly the postman in the community was a regular at the Hagadorn house.
