My daughter recently expressed interest in riding more. We live in a small city, and bicycles are a popular transportation choice here. I was excited at her choice. She would soon learn how easy it is to get around in this way, and how fast she can ride on two wheels. Bike tours are often quicker than bus or cab or car trips are.
Much to my surprise, none of this mattered to her. On one of our first trips together, I was fixing on the route ahead- turns, arrival time- when she said, “Hey Dad, wanna know a riddle?”
And then, before I explained how unsuitable this was, how we shouldn’t be telling jokes while riding, and how we should be focused on the road, on reaching our destination as soon as we could, she started, “What lasts forever but never dies?”
This is how it’s been. She has shared stories from the past, hopes for the future. I have been challenged to ride backward and to stretch legs out on both sides.
None of these have been dangerous, mind you. My daughter does not ride without proper care. She pulls even with me, for instance only on wide, empty streets. When the car appears, she quietly slips behind me and holds both eyes to the road. As soon as conditions of basic safety are met, though...
“Dad, slow down! Isn’t this a lovely neighborhood?” my daughter asks.
It is a lovely neighborhood. I’m surprised, I’ve come this way countless times, but never have I noticed any of this. Farther down the road, the laughter of children comes out from a game of ball.
I make a promise. From now on, I’m going to move more slowly on these rides. I’m going to notice the neighborhoods we move through. I’m going to enjoy this.
4. The writer had thought that riding would help her daughter ________.
A. go somewhere conveniently
B. have more bike excursions alone
C. do some tricks on the bike
D. learn the importance of time in traveling
5. According to the text the writer’s daughter ________.
A. ignored the traffic while riding
B. had a good sense of safety
C kept talking without looking ahead
D. enjoyed challenging any danger on the road
6. While looking at the neighborhood, the writer realized ________.
A. how easily his daughter was distracted
B. what a good neighborhood looked like
C. what he missed in the course of riding
D. why a neighborhood needed a garden
7. What promise did the writer make?
A. To be conscious of time in riding.
B. To take his daughter to ride more often.
C. To focus his attention on the destination.
D. To ride slowly to enjoy the beauty along the road.

There has been tremendous concern recently over misinformation on social media. This concern is quite justifiable, as the consequences of believing false information are greatly affecting the individual and collective health.
Many people tend to fall for misinformation they encounter online. There is one influential explanation for this phenomenon. As the thinking goes, someone, who possesses very limited skills in finding and consuming digital content, creating digital content, and communicating it, is likely to have difficulty recognizing false information and thus is more vulnerable to believing false information. As a result, these less digitally literate people may play a significant part in the spread of misinformation.
This argument sounds perfectly plausible. Yet very little research has actually investigated the link between digital literacy and the vulnerability to believing false information. There’s even less understanding of the potential link between digital literacy and what people share on social media. A group of MIT researchers explored these potential associations by surveying 1,341 Americans.
In the experiment, the researchers first showed the participants two dozen news headlines about politics, half of which were accurate, and half of which were false. In the second phase, they included a series of tests: having the participants report their familiarity with various Internet-related terms and answer questions about how social media platforms decide what to show in their newsfeeds. At last, the participants were required to assess the accuracy of a set of headlines and point out their likelihood of sharing each headline on social media.
The researchers found “clear evidence” that digital literacy was a strong predictor of accuracy discernment (识别能力). However, the results were “strikingly different” regarding sharing discernment. Digitally literate subjects were just as likely to share inaccurate information. Most surprisingly, even people with high digital literacy were not immune from clicking “share” for false news.
This sounds odd. Although most people don’t want to spread misinformation, social media is distracting: people are scrolling quickly, and their attention is drawn to social validation (社会认知度), such as how many likes their posts will get. So make sure a certain post is accurate before you click the “share” button.
8. What does the popular theory about people’s believing online misinformation highlight?
A. The ability to engage in the digital spaces.
B. The popularity of consuming digital content.
C. The low cost of spreading misinformation online.
D. The significance of limiting fake information online.
9. What does the word “plausible” underlined in paragraph 3 probably mean?
A. Distinctive. B. Sensible. C. Distant. D. Meaningful.
10. What did the researchers aim to do in the second phase of the study?
A. Test respondents’ attitudes towards political news.
B. Figure out respondents’ favorite online content.
C. Assess respondents’ willingness to share posts.
D. Determine respondents’ levels of digital literacy.
11. What can the researchers conclude about digital literacy from the experiment?
A. It can be enhanced through practice.
B. It varies due to people’s political beliefs.
C. It doesn’t stop the spread of misinformation.
D. It isn’t helpful in identifying misinformation.

Lately, it feels like technological change has entered an incredible speed. Companies like OpenAI and Google have unveiled new Artificial intelligence systems with incredible capabilities, making what once seemed like science fiction an everyday reality. It’s an era that is raising big, existential questions for us all, about everything from the future of human existence to the future of human work.
“Things are changing so fast,” says Erik Brynjolfsson, a leading, technology-focused economist based at Stanford University. As he notes, this new wave of technological change looks like it could be pretty different. Unlike before, experienced and skilled workers benefited mostly from AI technology. In this new wave, it’s the less experienced and less skilled workers who benefit the most. “And that might be helpful in terms of closing some of the inequality that previous technologies actually promoted,” Brynjolfsson says. So one benefit of intelligent machines is — maybe — they will improve the know-how and smarts of low performers, thereby reducing inequality.
But it’s also possible that AI could lower the profit of the experienced, smart, or knowledgeable ones. AI could reduce inequality by bringing the bottom up, and it could also reduce inequality by bringing the top and middle down.
Of course, as Erik put it, it’s also possible that AI could end up increasing inequality even more. For one, it could make the Big AI companies, which own these powerful new systems, wildly rich. It could also empower business owners to replace more and more workers with intelligent machines. And it could kill jobs for all but the best of the best in various industries, who keep their jobs because maybe they’re superstars or because maybe they have seniority.
The effects of AI, of course, are still very much being studied — and these systems are evolving fast — so this is just an assumption. This machine intelligence could upend much of the previous thinking on which kinds of jobs will be affected by automation.
12. Why did the author mention OpenAI and Google in paragraph 1?
A. To introduce the topic. B. To give an example.
C. To illustrate its topic. D. To emphasize the importance of technology.
13. Who will gain more in this new AI era?
A. The senior with high rank. B. The learned with great credit.
C. The new with little experience. D. The poor with practical skills.
14. Which statement will Erik probably agree with?
A. The fast development of AI will widen the division of inequality.
B. The best of all walks of life will survive the competition against AI systems.
C. Giant AI companies will be the winner in the future world of new AI systems.
D. Lower rank workers with little knowledge are bound to be abandoned by employers.
15. Which of the following is the best title for the text?
A. The Fast Growth of the World B. The Influence of the Inequality
C. The Future of the AI Generation D. The Impact of the AI System

47. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Having held the inter-school storytelling championship for the past two years, I was the shining star of my school. When it came to choosing the right candidate to participate in such competitions, I was always the first choice. Naturally, I was once again selected to represent my school in the approaching contest this year.
Upon hearing the fact that I was chosen again, my classmates and friends acknowledged that I would undoubtedly emerge as the champion again. Consequently, I became conceited (自负的). I was so proud that I neglected the importance of practicing for the contest.
A week before the contest, my teacher Ms. Sara asked, “Selena, would you like to stand in front of the class to rehearse (排练)for the contest?” She had tutored me in the past two competitions and knew how important practice was. “Just imagine you are on the stage in the presence of the audience,” she added.
“I’m sorry, Ms. Sara,” I replied. “I have a bit of a sore throat.”
This was usually the lie I would tell whenever my teacher requested me to practice in front of the class. I always found excuses to avoid doing it because I believed that I was the best and therefore the practice was unnecessary. On one occasion, I even told Ms. Sara not to worry too much as I was well prepared for the contest. In fact, I did everything but practice my script. I only managed to glance briefly through the story the day before the contest. As the best storyteller among the students of the local secondary schools, I was too vain to practice and thought everything would go well.
The contest was held in the local community hall. On the day of the contest, the hall was packed. My schoolteachers and principal were there along with many of my classmates and schoolmates. I was the eighth contestant out of twenty in total. Those who spoke before me did extremely well. On seeing their fascinating and outstanding performance, I began to lose confidence in myself. My palms sweated heavily and I started to feel nervous.

I’m thrilled to hear about your participation! I’d recommend the song “Mo Li Hua” (茉莉花).
This folk song is perfect for you because its melody is beautiful yet relatively simple, and the lyrics are repetitive and easy to remember. Most importantly, it’s a classic that all Chinese people know and love, so it will definitely resonate with the audience and judges.
I wish you the best of luck! I’m sure you’ll perform well and make a wonderful impression.

Shame flooded over me when realizing how poorly prepared I really was; tears welled up but refused to fall until Ms. Sara’s encouraging nod reminded me to finish bravely. From that day forward, every rehearsal saw me practicing tirelessly, vowing never again to let pride override preparation.
