In the past years, our school held many competitions successfully, like Singing Competition, Reading Competition, Dancing Competition, etc. I do know most of the students want to have a reading competition as was held last year, but now we’ll have something funnier. It’s the Pet’s Competition. Well, in fact, it aims at letting students know the importance of loving animals. Nowadays, too many people can’t treat animals well. Some people do not think carefully before getting a pet. You will not be disappointed because our teachers will not be using dull theory to put a love of animals in us. Instead, we can all learn something from a relaxing environment. The competition will be based on the dogs’ ability. Unfortunately, this competition is not open to our pets this year. Our school has selected five dogs for this competition. That means we can just sit back and enjoy, so please come to join this event and keep your diary during the activity. How can you afford to miss such an educational and funny event of the year?

I’m a single dad raising a son, so I usually helped my child select my Father’s day gifts, and then paid for them. When my son was a high school senior, he took control of the gifting by offering to drive us to Denny’s for breakfast. But the evening before the holiday, I couldn’t sleep. What kept me awake was the realization that this would be the last Father’s day before my kid left for college.
It truly felt like I had just taken the training wheels off my son’s bike. In my household, the fridge door is the all-knowing parental focus holding the academic and sports schedules, the school lunch menu, and the family calendar. Also attached to it are photos, awards, artwork, and the “good” report cards. The refrigerator is a super-sized memory book of my son’s life.
I began to go through the objects of significant emotional value, which required me to pull the fridge out because all the baby items were pushed to the sides. As I checked the golden oldies, I quickly realized three things. First, I had too many photos. Second, I needed to clear up the sides of the refrigerator. Third, soccer was a big part of our lives.
I never played or watched soccer before parenthood. Yet, I became the coach for all his teams until he reached middle school. Back then I assumed it was my fatherly duty to support my son’s activities, but now I understood that I was wrong. After years of supporting, guiding, and loving my son, I finally recognized that taking part in my son’s life on any level was not a duty— it was an honor.
I time-traveled through mementos (纪念品), and each memory helped me understand what being a dad really meant. Teenagers might not give us presents we want or need on Father’s day. But they have already given us the best possible gift — allowing us to feel what it’s like to be their dad.
24.What kept the author awake before Father’s day?
A.Planning a surprise for his father.
B.Reflecting on his poor father-son relationship.

25.Why is the fridge important to the family?
A.It adds an artistic touch to the house.
B.It holds memories of passing family days.
C.It is a source of creativity for school lunch.
D.It serves as a gathering place for family members.
26.Why did the author pull out the fridge?
A.To redecorate its sides. B.To clear up the kitchen.
C.To make room for a new one. D.To uncover personal mementos.
27.Why did the author claim that he was wrong in the last but one paragraph?
A.He recognized he had too many photos.
B.He regretted not playing soccer before parenthood.
C.He realized fatherhood was about pride rather than a task.
D.He felt ashamed to let his son take control of the gifting.

Among the around 40 million adults in the U.S. who have hearing loss, most don’t use hearing aids. This means they may be missing out on more than just good hearing. Age-related hearing loss — if not dealt with — can take its toll when it comes to physical and mental health, speeding up memory loss, for example.
Dr. Janet Choi, a doctor with Keck Medicine of USC, wanted to evaluate (评估) whether getting hearing back with hearing aids may increase the chances of living longer.
Choi and her team tracked the health condition of nearly 1,900 adults who had been shown to have hearing loss during screenings. The people who were surveyed completed questionnaires (问卷调查) about their use of hearing aids. “The group of patients who were using hearing aids regularly (定期地) had a 24 percent lower risk of mortality (死亡率) compared to the group who never use hearing aids,” Choi says. “We were surprised! We have found that not dealing with hearing loss can hurt our health. But we did not expect such a big difference in death risk.”
But the findings do not prove that hearing aids lead to longer life directly. It could be true that people who often use hearing aids are more likely to avoid loneliness and stay more active, which could explain why they live longer.
However, Choi says it’s surprising how few people with hearing loss wear hearing aids regularly — just 12 percent, according to her study. She adds another surprising finding is that the people in the study, who had hearing aids but didn’t use them regularly, were as likely to die early as those who never used them. So, if you have hearing aids sitting in the back of a drawer, not being used, Choi says, try them again.
32.What does the underlined part “take its toll” in paragraph 1 mean?
A.Cause great damage. B.Make little progress.
C.Solve the difficult problem. D.Play an active role.
33.Why did Choi and her team do the research about using hearing aids?
A.To prove that using hearing aids can improve memory.
B.To collect data for a research organization.
C.To find out the relationship between using hearing aids and a longer life.
D.To find out ways to get out of loneliness.
34.What did Choi find surprising about the people with hearing loss?
A.Many are young people. B.Many suffer from loneliness.
C.Many seldom use hearing aids. D.Many have memory problems.
35.What can we infer from the passage?
A.People who don’t use hearing aids are healthier.
B.Hearing aids are the only reason why people live longer.
C.People who use hearing aids are more likely to be alone.
D.Using hearing aids might have positive effects on people’s health.
【答案】32.A 33.C 34.C 35.D
【导语】本文是一篇说明文,主要讲的是一项关于听力损失与助听器使用对寿命影响的研究。
32.词句猜测题。根据第一段“Age-related hearing loss— if not dealt with(与年龄相关的听力损失——如果不加以处理的话)”和“when it comes to physical and mental health, speeding up memory loss, for example(当涉及到身体和心理健康时,例如加速记忆丧失)”可知,划线词所在的句子表示“与年龄相关的听力损失——如果不加以处理——会对身体和精神健康造成损害,例如,加速记忆力丧失”,由此推知take its toll的意思是“造成巨大损害”,和A选项“Cause great damage(造成巨大损害)”意思相近。故选A。
33.细节理解题。根据第二段“Dr. Janet Choi, a doctor with Keck Medicine of USC, wanted to evaluate (评估) whether getting hearing back with hearing aids may increase the chances of living longer.(南加州大学凯克医学院的医生Janet Choi博士想要评估佩戴助听器恢复听力是否会增加长寿的几率)”可知,Choi和她的团队要做关于使用助听器的研究是为了了解使用助听器与长寿的关系。故选C。
34.细节理解题。根据最后一段“However, Choi says it’s surprising how few people with hearing loss wear hearing aids regularly—just 12 percent, according to her study.(然而,Choi说,根据她的研究,听力损失的人中只有很少一部分人定期佩戴助听器,这个比例仅有12%,这令人感到惊讶)”可知,Choi发现的令人惊讶的事情是许多有听力问题的人很少使用助听器。故选C。
35.推理判断题。根据第三段“The group of patients who were using hearing aids regularly (定期地) had a 24 percent lower risk of mortality (死亡率) compared to the group who never use hearing aids(与从不使用助听器的群体相比,定期使用助听器的患者群体死亡率降低了24%)”和倒数第二段“It could be true that people who often use hearing aids are more likely to avoid loneliness and stay more active, which could explain why they live longer.(的确,经常使用助听器的人更有可能避免孤独,也更活跃,这可以解释为什么他们更长寿)”可知,从文章中我们可以推断出使用助听器可能对人们的健康有积极的影响。故选D。

Five tips for safe running
We all know that exercise is good for our health. But some kinds of exercise may be better than others. Running, for example, may help to protect against heart disease and other health problems. Running is a good exercise, but it can be hard on the body. 36
Take it easy. Do not run too much, too soon or too fast. Most people get running injuries when they push themselves too bad. The body needs time to get used to increase in distance or speed. 37
Listen to your body. Most running injuries do not come unexpectedly. 38 they may include body aches, sore muscles and pain that do not go away.
39 There is no single best shoe for every runner. You should find the shoe that offers the best fit and support for your feet. More importantly, you should replace your shoes every 500 to 800 kilometers.
Take good notes. Take time after each run to write down what you did and how you felt. Look for patterns, things that happen over again. These notes will help you find the best exercise for you.
Cross train (交叉训练). As we said earlier, running is hard on your body. So physical fitness experts suggest some form of cross training to improve muscle balance and to help you stay injury free. They say swimming, yoga, and riding a bicycle are good exercises to combine with running. 40 .
A.Get good running shoes.
B.Usually, there are warning signs (征兆).
C.Running may also help you live longer.
D.These exercises are easier on the body.
E.Muscles and joints (关节) need time to recover(恢复).
F.As advertisements for the running shoe Nike say, “just do it.”
G.Here are five ideas to reduce the risk (风险) injury.
【答案】36.G 37.E 38.B 39.A 40.D
【导语】本文是一篇说明文。文章给出了安全跑步的五个建议。
36.根据空格前的句子“Running is a good exercise, but it can be hard on the body.(跑步是一项很好的运动,但它可能会对身体造成伤害。)”和下文的五条建议可知,空格处的句子是承上启下的句子,引出下文避免跑步对身体造成伤害的建议。所以,G项“Here are five ideas to reduce the risk(风险) injury.(这里有五个减少受伤风险的方法。)”填入空格处,符合语境。故选G项。
37.根据空格前的句子“Do not run too much, too soon or too fast. Most people get running injuries when they push themselves too bad. The body needs time to get used to increase in distance or speed.(不要跑得太多、太频或太快。大多数人跑步受伤是因为他们把自己逼得太紧。身体需要时间来适应增加距离或速度。)”可知,空格处的句子应该接着解释为什么不能跑得太多、太频或太快。所以,E项“Muscles and joints (关节) need time to recover.(肌肉和关节需要时间来恢复)”填入空格处,符合语境。故选E项。
38.根据空格前的句子“Most running injuries do not come unexpectedly.(大多数跑步受伤不是意外发生的。)”和空格后的句子“they may include body aches, sore muscles and pain that do not go away.(它们可能包括身体疼痛、肌肉酸痛和无法消失的疼痛。)”可知,空格处的句子应该提到引起受伤的征兆。所以,B项“Usually, there are warning signs(通常会有警告征兆)”填入空格处,符合语境。故选B项。
39.空格处是该部分的主题句。根据下文的内容“There is no single best shoe for every runner. You should find the shoe that offers the best fit and support for your feet. More importantly, you should replace your shoes every 500 to 800 kilometers.(没有最适合每一位跑步者的鞋子。你应该找到最适合你脚的鞋子。更重要的是,你应该每500到800公里更换一次鞋子。)”可知,该部分是建议准备好的跑鞋。所以,A项“Get good running shoes.(买一双好的跑鞋。)”填入空格处,符合语境。故选A项。
40.根据空格前的句子“They say swimming, yoga, and riding a bicycle are good exercises to combine with running.(他们说游泳、瑜伽和骑自行车都是很好的运动,可以和跑步结合起来。)”可知,空格处的句子应该接着说为什么这些运动适合与跑步结合起来。所以,D项“These exercises are easier on the body.(这些运动对身体比较容易。)”填入空格处,符合语境。故选D项。

Last Saturday, Mike decided to go hiking in the nearby mountain with his dog Max. It was a beautiful day, with the sun shining brightly and birds singing in the trees. Mike packed some water, snacks, and a map, then set off with Max running happily beside him.
They walked along the path, enjoying the fresh air and the beautiful scenery. After walking for about an hour, Mike found a nice spot to rest. He sat down on a rock, took out the snacks, and shared some with Max. Suddenly, Max started barking loudly and ran towards the deep forest. “Max, come back!” Mike shouted, but Max didn’t stop. Mike had to run after him.
After running for a while, Mike realized he was lost. He couldn’t see the path anymore, and the trees around were so dense that he could hardly tell the direction. He felt a little anxious, so he took out his phone, only to find there was no signal. Just as he didn't know what to do, he heard Max's barking again, but this time it sounded weaker.

【答案】参考范文:
Mike followed the sound of barking and walked carefully through the trees. The undergrowth was thick, and he tripped over roots several times. After ten minutes, he spotted Max, lying beside a small cave, whimpering. “Max!” Mike called, rushing over. The dog had hurt its paw. Mike gently wrapped it with his scarf, feeling relieved but still lost.
Just then, Mike heard some voices not far away. He shouted for help, and soon two hikers appeared. They noticed that he was absent, and they were searching. With their help, Mike carried Max back to the path. By dusk, they reached the hill. Mike felt grateful — this adventure taught him to stay calm and trust his loyal friend.

The competition will be based on the dog's ability. Unfortunately, this competition is not open to our pets. This year, our school has selected five dogs for this competition. That means we can just sit back and enjoy. So please come to join this event and keep your diary during the activity. How can you afford to miss such an educational and funny event of the year? Whatever stage of life you’ re at, wherever you go and whatever project you do in GDA, you’ll create positive changes in poor and remote communities.
We work with volunteers of all ages and backgrounds. Most of our volunteers are aged 17-24. Now we need volunteer managers aged 25-75. They are extremely important in the safe and effective running of our programs. We have such roles as project managers and communication officers.
Depending on which role you choose, you could help to increase a community’s access to safe drinking water or help to protect valuable local cultures. You might also design an adventure challenge to train young volunteers.
Not only will you help our young volunteers to develop personally, but you’ll also learn new skills and increase your cultural awareness. You may have chances to meet new people who’ll become your lifelong friends.

C
Many of us may have experienced the pleasant moment of seeing recommended songs after we listened to some songs on a music app. When we open shopping websites, we often see things we want to buy on the home page. The businessman can decide which is the best place to build a new entrance in a big supermarket in the city center. If you want to take a taxi on a taxi app, it can even guess where you want to go before you tell it! Aren’t these things amazing?
This is based on data. Data is no longer only about numbers, but information from almost every side of our lives: our shopping habits, interests or what we eat. All of this is called “big data” (大数据). China is speeding up its big data strategy to better serve social and economic development. As a result, people’s lives can be improved as well. It is also expected that there will be greater use of big data in areas like education, social security and transportation.
We have seen big data being used more often in China in the past few years. The role it plays in tourism is just one example. Many travelers today like to share their experiences with others on the Internet. All the data that travelers share online is helping the tourism industry get a lot of information. After the data is analyzed (分析), these tour sights and service providers can better understand travelers’ needs. In this way, services will be improved, which is helpful to the development of the whole industry. As a result, travelers can expect better tours in the future.
Moreover, big data is also an important growth tool for economic development. With growth rate of 30 percent every year, sales of big data industry in China will reach one trillion yuan yearly by 2030. Having so many good influences, big data is sure to be seen more and more in China.

C.take a taxi without paying for it D.buy songs from a music app
29.Why does the author mention our shopping habits and interests in Paragraph 2?
A.To prove that big data is now part of almost everything we do.
B.To prove that big data only consists of information about what we buy and eat.
C.To show that China’s plan for big data is mainly about changing shopping habits.
D.To show shopping habits and interests influence our lives.
30.Which of the following words can describe the writer’s feeling towards big data?
A.Dissatisfied. B.Hopeful. C.Careful. D.Bored.
31.What can be the best title for the passage?
A.Big Data Brings Good Music.
B.Tourism Gets Help from Big Data.

On family holidays, my father transformed himself. Almost as soon as the plane landed, his ordinarily shy personality was 41 like a winter coat. He became 42 . There was a lightness about him as he chatted to 43 on the beach, inviting them to join us for dinner, where he’d entertain them with endless stories and jokes. However, two weeks later, as he got back to 44 life, he became the one of the past.
Years later, I went on a round-the-world trip, hoping to become a(an) 45 person like my father. I was soon 46 . Despite visiting eye-wateringly beautiful places, far away from the routines of life and the security of my friends and family, I still felt miserable. But as the weeks went on, something started to 47 . A woman I’d met earlier on the beach approached me and asked if I was 48 that evening to join her and a few others for dinner. We were six women of different ages. As the waves lapped on the beach, we sat together and 49 stories about our lives. I felt deeply moved by the 50 of these strangers. As I 51 my travels, I was surprised by the 52 of parts of myself that were long buried.
I think back to my father and the sharp 53 between his holiday self and his work self. I’m sure he’d have liked to experience this 54 on the other 50 weeks of the year and perhaps it’s a reminder to us all, as we unpack our suitcases, to find ways to 55 the small flames of travel into our everyday lives.

Not only will you help our young volunteers to develop personally, but you’ll also learn new skills and increase your cultural awareness. You may have chances to meet new people who’ll become your lifelong friends.
This summer we have both 4-week and 7-week programs:

C.Feeling emotional about a special Father’s day.
D.Getting excited about the breakfast at Denny’s.

A.make better decisions in business B.design home pages for websites
C.Big Data Influences China positively.
D.Sales of Big Data Industry in China.
