教学过程
Step 1 Warm-up and lead-in
1. Play and review.
Review the new vocabulary of qualities by playing a game of completing the sentences about friends.
2. View and guess.
View the picture of a girl and guess her personalities, leading to Passage 1.
Step 2 Reading
1. Read Passage 1 on Page 8 and answer.
(1) Read and find out: What do you know about this girl?
(2) Guess the meaning of “trustworthy” from the context to master a reading skill.
2. Read Passage 2 on Page 9 and complete the table independently.

3. Compare and analyze.
(1) Compare Betty and Max to find their quality in common:
They both support their friends by cheering them up and they both have a positive influence on their friends.
(2) Compare the two passages to analyze how the two writers introduce their friends:
Various methods are adopted to show characters vividly and make readers feel closer to them, including topic sentence+supporting details, adverbs of frequency, simple present tense, connection between her/him and “me”.

1. Think and talk.
Talk with partners about ideas on friendship: Who would you like to make friends with, Betty or Max? Why?
2. Think and share.
(1) Fill in the blanks on the worksheet, then share the answers with each other.
