Health is very important to everyone. Different people have their own ways to keep fit. A lot of people like running on the treadmills (跑步机). But it is not a good way to make you strong and healthy. Here are some reasons why you should run outdoors but not on the treadmills.
It costs you a lot of money to buy a treadmill. You can run outdoors, and it costs you nothing! Walk outside and the whole world is your treadmill. If you don’t mind getting a little dirty, outdoor activities will help you.
Treadmills can become boring. You are limited (被限制) to what’s in front of you. Running and exercising outside provide beautiful scenery (风景). Studies show that just looking at photos of nature can lower blood pressure (降低血压), so imagine what running through it will do. The fresh air and the unpolluted nature will also make you run more easily.
You burn (燃烧) more calories running outside than you do on a treadmill, because you have to work harder in order to move your body. When you run on a treadmill, you only move your legs. But when exercising outside, you must move your legs and your hands and so on.
Why not go for a run outdoors? Come on!
5.The passage gives ________ reason(s) not to exercise on the treadmills.
A.1 B.2 C.3 D.4
6.From the passage we can know treadmills are quite ________.
A.cheap B.expensive
C.famous D.comfortable
7.What can’t running outside provide?
A.Clean water. B.The unpolluted nature.
C.Fresh air. D.Beautiful scenery
8.What can be the best title for the text?
A.Do More Exercise
B.Outdoor Scenery
C.How to do Exercise on the Treadmills
D.Reasons for Not Running on the Treadmills
【答案】5.C 6.B 7.A 8.D
【导语】这是一篇议论文。文章围绕健康与运动方式展开讨论,强调了户外跑步优于在跑步机上跑步的观点。
5.细节理解题。根据第二段中“It costs you a lot of money to buy a treadmill. You can run outdoors, and it costs you nothing!(买一台跑步机要花很多钱。你可以在户外跑步,而且不花一分钱!)”、第三段中“Treadmills can become boring. You are limited (被限制) to what’s in front of you. Running and exercising outside provides a beautiful scenery (风景).(跑步机可能会变得无聊。你被眼前的事物所限制。在户外跑步和锻炼提供了美丽的风景)”和第四段中“You burn (燃烧) more calories running outside than you do on a treadmill, because you have to work harder in order to move your body.(在室外跑步比在跑步机上跑步消耗更多的卡路里,因为你必须更加努力地运动身体)”可知,文章从三个方面阐述了不使用跑步机锻炼的原因。
根据第二段中“It costs you a lot of money to buy a treadmill.(买一台跑步机要花很多钱)”可知,购买一台跑步机需要花费很多钱,所以跑步机是相当昂贵的。故选B项。
7.细节理解题。根据第三段中“Running and exercising outside provide beautiful scenery (风景). Studies show that just looking at photos of nature can lower blood pressure, so imagine what running through it will do. The fresh air and the unpolluted nature will also make you run more easily.(在户外跑步和运动,能让你邂逅优美的风景。研究表明,仅仅是观看自然风光的照片就有助于降低血压,试想一下,在真实的自然中奔跑又会带来怎样的效果呢?此外,清新的空气与纯净的自然环境,也会让你的奔跑过程更加轻松畅快。)”可知,户外跑步能提供美丽的风景、新鲜的空气和未受污染的自然环境。而A 选项“Clean water(干净的水)”在文中未提及是户外跑步能提供的。故选A项。

Eight-year-old Maggie Carosino spent last year on homeschooling and her science class of choice was botany (植物学). Her mother Reagan said she took Maggie for an educational visit to Lake Rasmussen in Duvall last fall when the little scientist noticed an unusual plant in the water. King County officials said they were amazed to receive an email telling them about the possible invasive plant (入侵植物). A couple of scientists said that it was an invasive plant known as “Egeria” that can cause big problems.
Sasha Shaw, with King County’s Noxious Weed Program, said that Egeria is “a super invasive water plant that’s never been found in the local river.” Egeria is an issue because if left unchecked it will spread to a point where it prevents light from reaching other plants and reduces oxygen for fish, according to Shaw.
Maggie’s discovery was important in its timing as the county worked quickly to have a look and found no signs of Egeria having spread outside of the lake to this point.
“Her love of plants was what got Maggie to the lake but the fact that she felt some sort of duty to notice the plant and say ‘hey mom, we gotta tell somebody!’ is just amazing,” said Shaw.
Shaw said that the Egeria likely came from someone who threw a fish tank (鱼缸) into the lake. This is a good chance for the county to remind people that leaving unwanted pets and plants in the wild can lead to serious problems.
9.Why did Reagan take Maggie to Lake Rasmussen?
A.To meet some scientists. B.To have a relaxing day together.
C.To find an invasive plant. D.To learn something about plants.
10.What problem can Egeria cause?
A.It blocks out the light. B.It gives fish too much food.
C.It is highly poisonous. D.It produces too much oxygen.
11.What lesson does Shaw hope people can learn?
A.It is bad to put fish in fish tanks.
B.It is not so difficult to become a scientist.
C.It matters a lot to deal with unwanted animals properly.
D.It leads to serious problems to be famous at a young age.
12.What is the best title for the text?
A.8-year-old girl is a big nature lover.
B.8-year-old girl knows a lot about duty.
C.8-year-old girl enjoys her homeschooling days.
D.8-year-old girl warns officials of a problem plant.
【答案】9.D 10.A 11.C 12.D

This morning, I saw the shocking headline: “Passenger Dies When Car Crashes in Driverless Mode”. In the article, various people said that the public should oppose the idea of developing driverless cars. They said that some advances in technology were unnecessary and could even be dangerous. Hence, we should cease accepting technology just because it is new. The newspaper reported that the car company had already apologized for the accident, but the families of the dead said it was not enough. Nevertheless, the company still claimed that most people would be traveling in driverless cars one day soon.
On the one hand, there are many different groups of people around the world who live happily in the absence of new technology. They do not own or drive cars, watch TV, or use the Internet. They live mainly as farmers, and they will probably be living the same way in the distant future. They advocate a simple life with an emphasis on hard work, family and community. They think that is better than caring about luxuries or following the lives of the rich and famous.
On the other hand, new technology has provided people everywhere with many benefits over the years. For example, the latest weather-tracking computer programmes give people lots of warnings about potential natural disasters, which saves many lives. Moreover, the Internet has made it possible for friends and family to keep in touch easily even if they are on opposite sides of the world. It has also made finding opportunities in life much easier, as it allows people to make larger networks of friends through using social media.
Personally, I have benefited quite a lot from technological advances. I found my career as an Al designer through a social media network. My health monitor, which I wear all the time, has also helped me get into the best shape of my life. Of course, technology changes the way we live, and it can be a scary prospect. Nevertheless, I will always look on the positive side of change and accept it rather than resist it.
13.What does the underlined word “cease” in the first paragraph mean?
A.Stop. B.Tolerate. C.Admit. D.Appreciate.
14.Why does the author mention the groups in paragraph 2?
A.To praise the groups.
B.To advocate a simple rural lifestyle.
C.To emphasize the importance of hard work.
D.To present positive sides of tech-free life.
15.What is paragraph 3 of the text mainly about?
A.The major strengths of new technology.
B.The main reasons for developing technology.
C.The future application of the new technology.
D.The different reactions of people towards technology.
16.What is the author’s attitude toward new technology?
A.Unclear. B.Objective. C.Doubtful. D.Approving.
【答案】13.A 14.D 15.A 16.D

Hence, we should cease accepting technology just because it is new.(他们说一些技术进步是不必要的,甚至可能是危险的。因此,我们应该cease仅仅因为技术是新的就接受它)”,结合前文提到人们反对开发无人驾驶汽车,可推测cease意思是“停止”。A. Stop(停止);B. Tolerate(容忍);C. Admit(承认);D. Appreciate(欣赏;感激)。故选A。
14.推理判断题。根据第二段“On the one hand, there are many different groups of people around the world who live happily in the absence of new technology.(一方面,世界上有许多不同群体的人在没有新技术的情况下幸福地生活着)”可推知,作者提到这些群体是为了呈现没有技术的生活的积极一面,。故选D。
15.主旨大意题。第三段“On the other hand, new technology has provided people everywhere with many benefits over the years.(另一方面,多年来新技术给各地的人们带来了许多好处)”为该段主题句,后面举例说明新技术的优势,所以该段主要讲的是新技术的主要优势。故选A。
16.推理判断题。根据最后一段“Nevertheless, I will always look on the positive side of change and accept it rather than resist it.(尽管如此,我将始终看到变化的积极一面,并接受它而不是抵制它)”可推知,作者对新技术的态度是支持的,故选D。

Artificial intelligence (AI) is putting itself into our daily lives, from the moment we unlock our phones with facial recognition to the recommendations that guide our music playlists or online shopping. Understanding how this powerful technology will change our daily activities and experiences is significant. But that isn’t the whole picture. We also need to pay close attention to how we build and shape AI itself, and what that process shows us about ourselves.
Every AI system we create functions as a mirror, clearly reflecting our values and views. Consider hiring algorithms (算法). In 2018, a large USA firm gave up an AI-powered hiring tool after discovering it was one-sided against female applicants. The AI wasn’t programmed to differentiate, but it was trained on historical hiring data that favored men, and it learned to reproduce these models. The use of AI systems in the police area, healthcare, and education reveals similar patterns. In all these cases, AI isn’t creating new unfair opinions. Instead, it is reflecting existing ones.
As long as AI is trained on human data, it will reflect human behavior. That means we have to think carefully about the traces of ourselves we leave in the world. I may claim to value privacy, but if I give it up in a heartbeat to access a website, the algorithms may make a very different judgement of what I really want and what is good for me. If I claim to want meaningful human connections yet spend more time on social media and less time in the physical company of my friends, I am training AI models about the true nature of humanity. AI not only reveals problems within the systems, but also clearly shows people’s inner struggles. As AI grows stronger, we must try harder to make sure our actions follow our principles.
As we continue to integrate (融合) AI into our lives, we must recognize that these systems don’t just predict our behavior; they reflect our character. Reflecting on that reflection allows us to make better, more principled choices, but only if we’re willing to look closely and take responsibility for what we see.
17.What does “the whole picture” mean in Paragraph 1?
A.The process of building and shaping AI.
B.The takeover of AI in our everyday life.
C.The dilemma of AI in decision-making.
D.The interplay between AI and humans.
18.What is the author’s purpose in mentioning hiring algorithms?
A.To support an argument. B.To state a phenomenon.
C.To showcase a practice. D.To oppose an opinion.
19.What does the author advise us to do?
A.Hide emotional struggles. B.Delete historical database.
C.Suit the action to the word. D.Avoid AI in sensitive areas.
20.What does the underlined part “that reflection” in the last paragraph refer to?
A.AI melts into our lives. B.AI mirrors our mindset.
C.We make wise choices. D.We remain responsible.

阅读下面短文,从短文下面各题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中,选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。
Do you think you have what it takes to be a successful scientist? A successful scientist is generally a good observer. He makes full 21 of the facts he observes. He doesn’t accept ideas which are not based on obvious facts, and therefore 22 to accept authority as the only reason for the truth. He always checks ideas 23 and makes experiments to prove them.
The rise of modern science may perhaps be considered to 24 as far back as the time of Roger Bacon, the wonderful philosopher of Oxford, who lived between the years 1214 and 1292. He was probably the first in the Middle Ages to 25 that we should learn science by observing and experimenting on the things around us, and he himself 26 many important truths.
Galileo (1564 — 1642), however, who lived more than 300 years later, was the greatest of several great men in Italy, France, Germany, and England, 27 began to show how many important truths could be discovered by observation by degrees. Before Galileo, learned men believed that large bodies fell more 28 towards the earth than small ones, 29 Aristotle said so. But Galileo, going to the top of the Leaning Tower of Pisa, let two 30 stones fall and proved Aristotle was wrong. It is Galileo’s 31 of going direct to nature, and proving our opinions and theories by experiment, that has 32 all the discoveries of modern science.
What 33 those people good scientists? From the example of Galileo, we know 34 that successful scientists are those whose observations have 35 better results.

D
