The Development of Electric Cars
Electric cars may seem like a recent invention, but they have been around for years. In the early 1900s, electric cars were more popular and there were 1 electric cars on the road than gasoline (汽油) cars, because at that time, gasoline was expensive compared with other fuels (燃料).
When gasoline 2 dropped and new technologies on gasoline cars were developed, electric cars were out of date. Gasoline cars became more popular 3 , because they could go farther without stopping.
During the 20th century, gasoline cars got bigger, heavier and faster. They needed more fuel, and it 4 more air pollution. For years, the car makers didn’t worry about pollution. They didn’t worry about how much gasoline cars used, either. But when people began to 5 that there was not enough oil on the earth, they asked car makers to produce more efficient (高效能的) and less polluting cars.
One 6 of solving the problem was a hybrid car (混合动力汽车), one that ran partly on gasoline and partly on electricity. Hybrid cars became popular in the 2000s because gasoline prices went up while prices of hybrid cars went 7 .
An all-electric car uses no gasoline. The problem, however, is that car batteries (电池) need to be recharged (再充电). That makes electric cars not so 8 for long journeys. Many people are not pleased with it. The government and car makers are working together to 9 safe, cheap and useful electric cars. When more and more people have these electric cars in the future, a gasoline station may 10 .

“What will I be like in ten years?” I asked myself.
Everyone has 1 , and I am no exception (例外). Sometimes, I cannot stop 2 about what I will be like. If I practice the 3 every day, maybe I will become a famous pianist. Now, however, I have a different idea about the 6 . In ten years, I might be a worker in a small company. I may not make a lot of money but I enjoy my life. I am 7 , but I still have time to work on my blog. I am still practicing the piano and the 8 makes my home warm. Yes, I am not world-famous, but I am happy every day.
It’s nice to have big dreams, but actions are more important than 9 . If a dream is too far to 10 , it is meaningless. It is hard to 11 what the future will be like because the world is changing fast and many things are out of our control. 12 people will become world-famous, but we can still do a lot. From the bottom to the top, we should never stop 13 for a bright future. Although some people have 14 with their lives, they work hard to overcome them and try to become better. What will our life be like in 50 years? I think we will live on Mars. Here is what life will be like there.
First of all, transport should be much better. Now, our spaceships (宇宙飞船) are too slow to carry lots of people to space—it takes months. However, in the future, it will take us two or three days to get to Mars by spaceship!
Many people believe that robots will do most of our work, so we will have more time for our hobbies.
How about the food, water, and air? Scientists will be able to develop plants that can be grown on Mars. These plants will produce (产 出) the food and air we need. However, can these plants give water to us? There is no answer now.
There are also some problems for us. Mars pulls us much less than the Earth does. This will be dangerous because we can easily jump too high and fly slowly away into space. To stop this, humans on Mars have to wear special shoes to put on weight. What’s more, food will look like pills and will not be as delicious as it is today.

Digital Money (数字货币)
Now we can use Wechat Pay or Alipay to shop. That means we are already using digital money. People only need to take a phone wherever they go. Using these ways is much easier than looking for money in our pockets. However, some people don’t like using it. They think it is not safe enough. In fact, it is not true at all. ▲ .
Virtual friends (虚拟朋友)
Virtual friends can be a life-size copy of your best friend. It will be possible to talk to a life-sized hologram (全息图) of friends. A projector (投影仪) will create a picture of your friend sitting next to you. It will be just like they are there, except you can’t have a touch on them.

What will the house of the future look like? Could it have gardens on its walls, or a pool with fish for dinner? Architects believe that they are all possibilities. The only thing for sure is that the houses will be as green as possible.
The tree house
Many architects in the world would like to build a “tree house”. Like a leaf, the surface of the house collects sunlight during the day. The energy can be used to heat water, produce electricity, and even create fresh air for the home. The “root” (根) of the house is deep under the ground. It uses the soil to keep the home’s temperature.
Meals at home
This design is perhaps as much about the future of food production as architecture (建筑风格). It has gardens on the outside wall of the house. People can plant tomatoes, carrots and green tea on them. So every day in the morning, you just need to walk outside and collect your meals.
Learning from the past
Looking to the future isn’t the only way to be green. Sometimes, ancient techniques (古老的技术) can also help cut down energy use. For example, a chimney (烟囱) can be a useful air-conditioner because it is easier for hot air to flow out at the chimney.

Computers have become smarter in recent years. The AI-powered chatbot (人工智能聊天机器人) ChatGPT is able to answer questions, write articles and do translations like a human. It has caused excitement all over the world. Like most products these days, ChatGPT wasn’t made by just one person. Instead, it was developed by a group of engineers at OpenAI. But according to the company, one man played an especially important role. That man is Jakub Pachocki.
Pachocki is a programmer (程序员). He has been interested in AI for many years. He wants to use this technology to make computers smarter. In 2017, the man joined OpenAI. There he taught a robot to play Dota 2, an online game. Pachocki made the robot play against itself over and over until it reached the professional level.
Pachocki began working on ChatGPT in 2018. His job was to pretrain (预训练) the AI system. The man and his team made computers study billions of words. These words came from books, magazines, websites and so on. They covered many different topics. By studying these words, the system learnt the patterns (模式) of human language. This process (过程) helped it develop the ability to “chat” about different topics like a real person.
Although Pachocki is very talented, he has kept a low profile (保持低调). He seldom talks to the media. He is not active on social media either. The programmer, instead, focuses on his work. He spends most of his time trying to make computers smarter.
Does ChatGPT’s intelligence (智力) surprise you? Well, now you know there are smart minds like Pachocki behind it. Computers are not getting smarter on their own.
1.Why has ChatGPT made people all over the world excited?
A.Because it can play online games.

Tomorrow’s Touch: A Tech Revolution
Imagine a world where technology blends seamlessly with humanity. By 2040, I believe we shall wear eco-skin—thin, flexible screens that monitor health while displaying digital art. What creative possibilities this will unlock! Artists will design living tattoos that change with moods, and doctors shall detect illnesses through microscopic sweat analysis.
The development of such tech faces huge challenges. Scientists will need to solve power issues: “Solar threads are going to weave into fabrics,” Dr. Lena Chen predicts at Future Tech Summit. Ethical debates will arise too. How transparent shall our health data be? But these challenges spark innovation. Young inventors will create solutions we can’t yet imagine.
Personally, I shall study bio-engineering to join this revolution. My school’s “Invent Tomorrow” club will host coding camps next semester. There, we shall develop prototype gloves translating sign language into speech—making communication barrier-free. What greater purpose could technology serve?
This future isn’t about cold machines. It’s about creative connections. When eco-skin reminds grandparents to take medicine, or when a child’s drawn butterfly flutters on their sleeve, technology shall prove its true role: helping humans flourish.
1.What is the key feature of “eco-skin” technology?
A.Replacing doctors with AI. B.Combining health monitoring with digital art.
C.Creating permanent tattoos. D.Generating solar energy alone.
2.What major challenge does Dr. Chen mention?
A.Ethical debates about data privacy. B.Lack of creative designers.
C.High costs of materials. D.Public resistance to new tech.
3.How does the writer plan to develop relevant skills?
A.By attending medical school immediately.
B.Through coding camps in the “Invent Tomorrow” club.
C.By joining Future Tech Summit.
D.Through bio-engineering internships now.
4.What example shows technology helping human connections?
A.Flexible screens displaying digital art. B.Gloves translating sign language into speech.

In 2024, you can buy lots of things during a live show (直播), such as food and clothes, and now even a ticket to space.
On Oct 24, Deep Blue Aerospace, a Chinese Space company, sold two space travel tickets in a live show. This was the first time that Chinese people could buy space tickets. Those tickets were priced at 1.5 million yuan each. But during the show, they were only for 1 million yuan each. It was 500 thousand yuan cheaper than usual.
The space trip will last about 12 minutes. Passengers will sit in a spaceship that is about 4 meters tall and 3.5 meters wide, with a bit window. It will go 100 kilometers above Earth. Travelers will experience weightlessness (失重) for at least five minutes and see Earth from above before coming back down safely.
Passengers must be between 18 and 60 years old. They need to be healthy. They also have to take some security training (安全培训) before the trip. The trip will use the company’s Nebula-1 rocket. It runs on oxygen and kerosene (氧气和煤油) and can be reused. This makes the trip cheaper. As this technology gets better, space tickets might become less expensive, said Huo Liang, CEO of Deep Blue Aerospace.
In a word, the company plans to do lots of tests in 2026 to make sure the space trip is safe. They hope to begin the trip in 2027.
1.How much was the ticket if you bought it during the show?
A.1.5 million yuan. B.1 million yuan. C.500 thousand yuan.
2.What does the underlined word “it” in paragraph 3 refer to (指代)?
A.The space trip. B.The spaceship. C.The big window.
3.What can we know according to Huo Liang in paragraph 4?
A.Passengers can be healthier after the trip.
B.The oxygen and kerosene cannot be reused.
C.The space tickets might become less expensive.
4.What is the structure of this passage?

What will the world of tomorrow be like? Many people today believe that technology is going to help solve some problems we have today. New technology may solve old problems, and it may also create new ones. No technology is perfect. Each has advantages and disadvantages. Here are three examples.
When we dream about the future, many of us think that we will be able to fly to the sky in our own flying cars. We could fly at 480 km per hour, avoiding traffic lights and busy roads. However, if too many flying cars are in the air, there will be trouble with traffic control.
3D printing is another new technology for the future. 3D printers are already used to make life-size models of car parts (部件), and man-made body parts, like ears. As we move into the future, 3D printing will change the way we make things and the way we treat sick people. The disadvantage is that such a machine is very expensive.
Finally, people are trying to make a robot suit (套装). This is an electronic suit. It allows people to lift heavy things and walk a long way. It might help people walk again after an illness or an accident. However, one disadvantage at the moment is the cost.
It is easy to imagine a future. We will be able to fly to work, print out a new pair of shoes or lift a car above our heads. Although there are some problems to solve, we can certainly dream of a world. In this world, technology makes people’s life easier and safer, and it can solve some of the most difficult problems we have today.
1.How does the writer start the passage?
A.By asking a question. B.By giving a report.
C.By giving advice. D.By telling a story.
2.Which one of the following is NOT true?
A.If too many flying cars are in the air, there will be problems with traffic control.
B.Technology can solve some of the most difficult problems we have today.
C.A robot suit costs too much at the moment.
D.3D printing won’t change the way we make things.
3.What might the robot suit help people do after an illness or an accident?
A.It might help people fly to the sky. B.It might help people walk again.
C.It might help people make models. D.It might help people save money.
4.What would be the best structure (结构) of this passage?
(Paragraph1=① Paragraph2=② Paragraph3=③ Paragraph4=④ Paragraph5=⑤)
A.B.C. D.

With the development of technology, education is changing. The classroom of the future will surely not be the same as the classroom of today. So what will the future classroom be like? Let’s try to find it out.
To start with, facing the blackboard will be a thing of the past. Students will take classes by looking at their touch-screen (触摸屏的) desks. And doing homework, taking down notes, and taking tests will be just a click away (点击鼠标即可). The walls of the classroom will also be filled with real-time screens for students and teachers to show any information they want.
In the coming years, another technology called metaverse (元宇宙) will make learning more exciting. Metaverse is a 3D virtual (虚拟的) world where people can meet, play, and work with others through digital avatars (数字化身). In the metaverse, people can do things like going to the mall, attending a concert or buying virtual clothing. The only difference is that they’ll be doing all these in a virtual environment. Teachers and students can get into a virtual classroom, while in real life, they may be sitting on the sofa at home. The experience will be like being in an actual classroom. Students can also “visit” historical sites, see the real geography of the planet, take tours through international universities or research labs, and much more.
Besides, the classroom of the future holds several learning styles for students. They will be given the freedom to learn things in the way they want. This includes learning through video lectures. Everyone moves at their own pace (节奏), with teachers guiding them along the way. This practice will help students learn faster and have better results.
1.What might happen according to the second paragraph?
A.Students won’t need to take tests.
B.Students won’t need to do their homework.
C.There will be no blackboard in the classroom.
2.What is the metaverse?
A.A new kind of class. B.A robot teacher. C.A virtual world.
3.What can’t people do in the metaverse according to the passage?
A.Enjoy the smell of beautiful flowers.
B.Attend a famous singer’s concert.
C.Take classes in world-famous universities.
4.What does the passage mainly tell us?
A.How the metaverse will change our life.
B.How the classroom will change in the future.
C.How virtual classrooms will become popular.

C.They are land-saving. D.They are water-covered.
5.In which part of a magazine may the passage appear?
A.Culture Corner (角). B.Future Life.
C.Art World. D.Science Study.

The world will be very different in 2045. So what’s going to happen then? It’s pretty possible that robots and AI will change the world a lot. Also, self-driving and flying cars will come into our daily life.
However, scientists have even bigger ideas. In the video called Forward to the Future, scientists predicted what the world would be like in 2045.
Dr. Justin Sanchez believes we’ll be able to control (控制) things simply by using our mind. “Think about a world where you just use your mind to control your environment,” Justin said. Scientists are working hard to have some progress (进展).
“The future has more than just that. Many other exciting things could change the buildings and other things around us,” says Stefanie Tompkins. “We’ll be able to build things that are very strong but not heavy,” she predicted.
Pam Melroy believes we’re going to find that we have a very different relationship with the machines around us. “I think we’ll be able to control a machine just by only saying some simple words,” she said. For example, right now to land a plane, in Pam’s words, a pilot may just need to say the words “prepare for landing”. Then the computer knows the steps it needs to take. Or maybe, a pilot won’t even be necessary.
1.What is possible to change the world a lot in 2045?
2.What’s the name of the video?
3.How many scientists gave their predictions in the video?
4.Who has the prediction about changing the buildings and other things around us?
5.How will people be able to control a machine according to Pam Melroy?

Robots are playing an important part in our life. They can help people do lots of boring and dangerous work. They’re useful because they never get tired and bored and can’t feel any pain. But these days, some scientists believe it’s a good idea to make robots feel pain.
Scientists from Germany are working on teaching robots how to feel pain. “Pain is a system that protects us humans,” said Johannes Kuehn, one of the scientists. “When we stay away from the thing that could make us feel pain, we’ll not get hurt.”
How dangerous it would be if we couldn’t feel pain. Although pain hurts, it helps us keep away from dangerous things. The same will be true for robots. As a greater number of people work closely with robots, robots need to be smarter to protect themselves. Johannes believes that if humans protect robots, robots will protect humans as well.
Some Japanese scientists have made a robot which can see pain on human faces. Robots will be very useful in everyday life if they can see pain on human faces. For example, if robots can see pain on human faces, they’ll be able to care for old people.
It’s clear that robots are more and more like humans. Maybe in the future, robots will think and talk like humans. Do you agree?
1.What can people use robots to do?
2.What are scientists from Germany doing?
3.How would it be if we couldn’t feel pain?
4.What kind of robots have some Japanese scientist made?

B.Technology can solve some of the most difficult problems we have today.
C.A robot suit costs too much at the moment.
D.3D printing won’t change the way we make things.
3.What might the robot suit help people do after an illness or an accident?
A.It might help people fly to the sky. B.It might help people walk again.
C.It might help people make models. D.It might help people save money.
4.What would be the best structure (结构) of this passage?

In the future cities, will we have smart buildings and flying cars? Or robots that will do our housework? What about schools? Will we still travel to school or will we study online at home?
Maybe ... or maybe not, but what we do know is that in the future, cities are going to have more and more people living in them. More than half of the world’s people already live in cities, and by 2050, cities will become home to about 6.5 billion people. That’s a lot of people and very little space! More people means that we’re going to have more pollution, traffic and noise. It also means that we’ll need more homes, schools, hospitals and jobs. We’ll need more resources, like water and trees, and more ways to grow food too. Oh, and more parks to play in!
Many cities are already planning for the future. For example, Bristol is a cycling city in England. You can ride bikes on the cycle road. In Singapore, people are looking “up” to grow food! To save land, they grow vegetables in lots of layers (层) in special tall buildings, called “vertical farms”. In Amsterdam in North Europe, there are “floating (漂浮) houses” built on water instead of on land!
1.Why does the writer ask the questions in the first paragraph?
A.To predict what cities will be like. B.To describe the old cities.
C.To introduce new ways of life. D.To show the importance of cities.
2.What is the second paragraph mainly about?
A.Problems in future cities. B.Plans about building future cities.
C.Ways of feeding people in future cities.
D.Advice on managing (管理) future cities.
3.What does the word “resources” mean in Chinese?
A.经历 B.效率 C.信息 D.资源
4.What do “vertical farms” and “floating houses” have in common?
A.They are easy-made. B.They are good-looking.
C.They are land-saving. D.They are water-covered.
5.In which part of a magazine may the passage appear?
A.Culture Corner (角). B.Future Life.
C.Art World. D.Science Study.

根据短文内容,按要求回答问题。
【答案】1.Robots and Al. 2.Forward to the Future. 3.Three 4.Stefanie Tompkins. 5.By only saying some simple words.
【导语】本文介绍了科学家在《迈向未来》视频中,预测 2045年机器人、AI等将改变世界,还设想了意念控制、新型建筑和语音操控机器等场景。
1.根据第一段“It’s pretty possible that robots and AI will change the world a lot. Also, self - driving and flying cars will come into our daily life.”可知,在2045年,机器人、人工智能以及自动驾驶和飞行汽车都有可能极大地改变世界。故填Robots and Al.
2.根据第二段“In the video called Forward to the Future, scientists predicted what the world would be like in 2045.”可知,这个视频的名字是Forward to the Future。故填Forward to the Future.

5.Do you think we should make robots feel pain? Why or why not?
【答案】1.Lots of boring and dangerous work. 2.(They are) working on teaching robots how to feel pain. 3.(It would be) dangerous. (How dangerous it would be if we couldn’t feel pain.) 4.A robot which can see pain on human faces. 5.Yes, I do. If robots can feel pain, they’ll be able to protect themselves and humans.
