学习活动(包含设计意图)

Step 1: Warming-up & Lead-in (5 minutes)

each picture and ask: "What class is this?" Guide students to guess. Then the teacher says: "These are different subjects. Today we will talk about our favorite subjects. Unit 4 My Favourite Subject." Write the unit title on the blackboard.

Design Intent

The daily talk helps to create a relaxed English learning atmosphere and review the knowledge learned before. Showing vivid pictures can arouse students' interest and curiosity, and naturally lead in the topic of "subjects", laying a foundation for the subsequent teaching content.

Step 2: Presentation (10 minutes)

Present New Vocabulary:

The teacher takes out the flashcards of subject vocabulary one by one. For each card, first read the word clearly (e.g., "Chinese"), then spell it: "C-H-I-N-E-S-E, Chinese". Ask students to follow and read twice. Then explain the meaning with simple English or gestures: "Chinese is our mother language class."

Use the PPT to show the words with corresponding pictures again, and play the pronunciation of each word. Let students listen and repeat to correct their pronunciation.

Focus on the pronunciation of some difficult words, such as "geography" /dʒiˈɒɡrəfi/ and "science" /ˈsaɪəns/. The teacher demonstrates the pronunciation of the syllables and asks students to practice in pairs.

Vocabulary Practice:

Quick Response: The teacher shows the flashcards randomly, and students say the words quickly. Or the teacher says the word, and students point to the corresponding picture on the PPT.

Match Game: Show the words on one side of the PPT and the pictures on the other side. Ask several students to come to the front and match the words with the pictures. The rest of the students check and correct.

Fill in the Blanks: Distribute a simple worksheet with sentences like "We draw pictures in ______ class." "We play football in ______ class." Ask students to fill in the blanks with the correct subject words. Then check together.

Design Intent

Using flashcards and pictures can make the vocabulary more intuitive and help students associate words with meanings. Multiple forms of practice (quick response, match game, fill in the blanks) can consolidate students' mastery of vocabulary from listening, speaking, reading and writing aspects, and improve their learning efficiency.

Step 3: Listening Practice (15 minutes)

Present Key Sentence Patterns:

The teacher holds a flashcard of "English" and says: "I like English very much. English is my favorite subject." Then asks a student: "What’s your favorite subject?" Guide the student to answer: "My favorite subject is..." If the student has difficulty, the teacher can give prompts, such as holding up the "math" card and saying: "Is your favorite subject math?"

Then the teacher asks the same student: "Why do you like math?" and answers by himself/herself first: "I like math because it’s useful." Write the sentence patterns on the blackboard:

—What’s your favorite subject?

—My favorite subject is...

—Why do you like...?

—Because it’s...

Introduce adjectives to describe subjects: interesting, fun, relaxing, useful. Show pictures or use body language to explain their meanings. For example, laugh and say: "Interesting means you think it’s fun and you like it."

Practice Sentence Patterns:

Teacher-student Interaction: The teacher asks several students the two questions in turn, and guides them to answer with the target adjectives. For example:

T: What’s your favorite subject, Lily?

S: My favorite subject is music.

T: Why do you like music?
