第1课时 Section A (1a-1d) & Pronunciation 1、 Teaching Objectives In this class, students will: 1.learn more words and expressions about plants and animals. 2.get the key information about the plants and animals mentioned in the conversations. 3.talk about these plants and animals using superlatives. 4.grasp the pronunciation of the following sounds:/eɪ/,/aɪ/,/ɔɪ/,/bl/,/kl/, /ɡl/, /br/, /kr/, /ɡr/ and correctly read words containing the related letters or letter combinations. 5.notice the difference in stress and meaning of the same sentence. 2、 Teaching Advice Lead-in Look and Share Have students look at the theme picture on the opening page and think about the questions on Page 31.Then invite some students to share their answers. Free Talk 1.Ask students to read the title of the unit and get the meaning.Have students talk about the following questions in pairs: ◆Do you think bees are amazing or not?Share your reasons. ◆What other animals or plants do you think are amazing? ◆What makes them amazing? 2.Invite some pairs to share their answers with the whole class. Pre-listening 1a 1.Have students look at the four pictures and ask them if they can identify the plants and animals.Encourage them to describe the pictures.The teacher can use the following questions as prompts: ◆What do you see in the picture? ◆What do you know about this plant/animal? ◆Can you guess its name? 2.Present the names of these plants and animals.For the new words,the teacher should present the pronunciation and break down the syllables if necessary. 3.Have students work in pairs to talk about these plants and animals using the words in the box.Provide simple background information about each plant or animal if necessary. While-listening 1b Ask students to listen to the conversations and number the plants and animals in 1a in the order they hear them.Check the answers in class. 1c 1.Have students observe the words in the box in 1c and compare them with those in the box in 1a.Guide them to notice the superlative form.Then the teacher can introduce the superlatives briefly to make students understand the meanings of these words. 2.Ask students to listen again,and then match the words with the plants and animals in 1a.Remind them that some plants or animals may have two answers.Then check the answers. 3.The teacher can add a comprehensive question: Why are Emma and Yaming talking about these animals and plants? Guide them to conclude that they are taking a test on animals and plants.Then the teacher can show more examples of test questions on animals and plants and invite students to answer.(见优翼配套教学课件) 4.Ask students to work in groups and create their own test questions about animals and plants using superlatives.Then the groups can take turns to ask and answer questions. Post-listening 1d 1.Let students work in pairs to ask and answer questions about the plants and animals in 1a.Students can also be encouraged to talk about other amazing animals or plants.Remind students to use superlatives and other descriptive language. 2.Students can exchange the roles to ask and answer. 3.Invite some pairs to share their conversations in class. Pronunciation Exercise 1 1.Have students read the words in each column and pay attention to the pronunciation of the letters or letter combinations in bold. 2.Ask students to listen and repeat after the recording.Then explain the key points of pronouncing these sounds. 3.Encourage some students to read these sounds and words so that the teacher can find some possible problems or mistakes.The teacher gives correct demonstrations and makes them practise the pronunciation more. 4.Brainstorm more words to add to each group. Exercise 2 1.Ask students to look at the three sentences and find the similarities and differences. 2.Have students listen carefully and notice how the stress placement changes the meaning of the sentence.Then explain to students that stress can change the focus and meaning of a sentence.Provide examples: ◆Stress on “redwood” emphasizes the type of forest,not other forests. ◆Stress on “California” emphasizes the location,not other places. ◆Stress on “several” emphasizes the frequency,not only once. 3.Play each version of the sentence again.Have students repeat each sentence,imitating the stress and intonation.Encourage students to practise in pairs,giving each other feedback on pronunciation and stress. 4.Give students a sentence and ask them to change the stress to convey different meanings. 5.In pairs,students create short dialogues in which they change the stress placement to alter the meaning of their sentences. Summary Ask students to summarize what they learned in this lesson. Homework Finish the related exercises in the books produced by Youyi. Blackboard Design Words and expressions about amazing animals and plants: largest, heaviest, fastest, most beautiful, one of the oldest ,tallest Teaching Reflection In this lesson, students explored amazing plants and animals while practising listening, speaking, and pronunciation skills.The lead-in activity successfully engaged students by connecting the topic to their prior knowledge.But I noticed some students hesitated to share their thoughts, suggesting a need for more encouragement or scaffolding. Pair and group activities encouraged interaction, but I should give more time for peer feedback to ensure all students participate actively.Overall, the lesson reached its objectives.In future classes, I will use more pictures and repeat hard parts.This will help students better understand difficult ideas. 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
