第四课时Section B(1a-1d) & Vocabulary in Use 1、 Teaching Objectives In this class, students will: 1.retell Vincent's trip to Russia using a timeline. 2.talk about what Vincent learned during his trip. 3.share what they can learn from Vincent's trip with their partners. 4.learn about Russian culture through Vincent's experiences. 2、 Teaching Advice Lead-in Look and Say 1.Show students a map of China and ask them to answer the question. Can you name some neighbouring countries of China? 2.Show students some photos of Russia(e.g.Red Square,Alexander Garden,Victory Museum, Nesting dolls,Volga River and St.Basil's Cathedral).Ask students the question. What places or things do you see in these photos?/Do you know what these places or things are? Teaching Tip:The teacher should introduce each photo to students, e.g.(1)This is Red Square.It's a famous place in Moscow where people celebrate festivals.(2)Alexander Garden is a beautiful park in Moscow. It has beautiful flowers, fountains and monuments.(3)The Victory Museum is located in the Victory Park.It's a place to remember the World War Ⅱ.It reminds us how important peace is.(4)These are Nesting dolls.They are a kind of traditional Russian toy. Each doll fits inside another. 1a Ask students to answer the questions in 1a. ◆Do you know which country it is? ◆What's the capital city of Russia? ◆Would you like to visit it? Pre-reading Predict Tell students that Vincent visited Russia during his summer holiday.Show them the pictures of Red Square, Alexander Garden and the Moscow Metro on the textbook.Let them predict what Vincent saw and did in his trip. While-reading Skim Reading Ask students to read Vincent's diary entries about his holiday.Then answer the questions in 1b. What places did Vincent visit? Careful Reading 1.Have students read the first diary entry and answer the questions. ◆Why did Russian people build the Victory Museum? ◆What artwork did Vincent see in one hall?What was the special meaning of this artwork? ◆How did Vincent feel about his first day trip? Cultural Tip:During World War Ⅱ,Russia fought against the Nazi Germany.The war was very difficult.Many people lost their homes and lives during the war.But finally, Russia defeated the Nazi Germany and ended the war.Today, Russian people use places like the Victory Museum to remember people who fought for the peace. 2.Have students read the second diary entry and answer the questions. ◆How did Vincent go to Red Square and the school? ◆What did he think of Moscow's metro stations? ◆Who did Vincent meet at a school in the afternoon and what did they do? ◆How did he feel about his trip on the second day? Summary Ask students to summarize what they learned in this lesson. Homework Finish the related exercises in the books produced by Youyi. Blackboard Design Draw the timeline of Vincent's trip on the blackboard. Teaching Reflection Russia is a country that students were not familiar with. In order to attract students’ attention, I showed them many photos and background information about the country. They were interested in these materials. However, there were some problems. Some students had a hard time when practising the vocabulary. They didn't know many phrases and sometimes they confused their meanings.
