Jenny: What is it about?
Li Ming: We are supposed to describe ourselves in a report. What should I write about myself? I’m finding it a bit challenging.
Jenny: Maybe I can help you come up with some ideas.
Li Ming: Thanks. I really need your advice.
Jenny: First, think about yourself. What do you like about yourself?
Li Ming: Hmm... Let me think. I’m a good student. I also have many friends.
Jenny: That’s right! And what makes you unique? You can write about your personal strengths and special talents.

Jenny: Suppose you are telling a friend about yourself: What kind of person are you? What are you good at? What are you proud of about yourself?
Li Ming: Oh, I see. I’m a kind person and I like to help others. I’m good at playing the erhu, a traditional Chinese musical instrument. I’m proud of winning the ping-pong championship in our last school sports event.
Jenny: Well done! Your report will be great.

2. We’re supposed to describe ourselves in a report.
我们需要在一份报告中描述自己。
(1) be supposed to 应该,表示按规定、习惯、安排等应该做某事,相当于should,后边需要加动词原形。
其否定形式为be not supposed to do sth
e.g. We’re supposed to keep our classroom clean and tidy.
我们应该保持教室干净整洁。
You’re not supposed to feed the animals.
你们不应该给动物喂食。

(2) describe 动词 描述;形容
describe …to/for sb 向某人描述……
e.g. Now look at the picture carefully. Then describe what you saw to us.

3. I’m finding it a bit challenging. 我觉得这有点儿挑战性。
(1) “a bit 有点儿;稍微”,表程度,可修饰动词、形容词等,相当于a little
e.g. She is a bit afraid of the dogs.

拓展: a bit of 一点儿,修饰不可数名词,相当于a little
e.g. There is a bit of water on the ground. Please be careful.

辨析:a bit 与a little
相同点 二者都具有副词的性质,修饰动词,表示程度小,意为“有点”。
不同点 当修饰名词时,a little 可以在后面直接加不可数名词,而a bit 需要先接介词of,然后再加不可数名词。

(2) challenge 动词 向……挑战;

e.g. Saying no to junk food is a challenge for many kids.

e.g. It’s challenging to travel alone for a week.

5. You can write about your personal strengths and special talents.

(1) personal 形容词 个人的;私人的
由名词person+al (形容词后缀) 构成,常用于名词前作定语。
personal information 个人信息 personal space 个人空间
e.g. Don’t tell strangers about your personal information.
不要告诉陌生人你的个人信息。
拓展:personally 副词 就本人而言;亲自
personality 名词 性格;个性;人格

点和品质。其对应的复数意义的单词为people,用
来泛指人类,表达人类的共性和普遍性。
常用短语:in person 表示“亲自;亲身”。

6. What are you proud of about yourself?
“be proud of 为……感到骄傲、自豪”,of是介词,后边跟名词代词和动名词
