Presentation Read the text on page 14 again and answer the following questions. (1) What part of speech are the words in bold? (2) Can you divide the words in bold into two groups and explain why? “Cheerful”, “helpful” and “useful” are in the same group because they end in -ful. “Sleepless” and “helpless” are in the same group because they both end in -less. They are adjectives. Presentation (3) What do we call -ful and -less in English? They are called suffixes. (4) What is a suffix? A suffix is a letter or a group of letters added to the end of a word to make another word. (5) What do the suffixes -ful and -less mean? The suffix -ful means “full of”, and the suffix -less means “without”.
