教学过程
5.1 Lead - in (5 minutes)
Show some pictures of different communication tools, such as an old - fashioned letter, a rotary phone, and a modern smartphone.
Ask students: "What are these? Do you know how people used them to communicate? And which one do you think is the most important in modern life?"
Let several students answer the questions, and then briefly introduce the topic of creating a poster about the development of communication tools.
5.2 Grouping (3 minutes)
Divide the whole class into groups of 4 - 5 students.
Explain the purpose of group work: Each group needs to work together to complete a poster about the development of communication tools. The group members should divide tasks, such as information collection, poster design, and oral presentation.
5.3 Information Collection Guidance (7 minutes)
Provide some resources for students to collect information, such as relevant websites (e.g., technology news websites, official websites of communication tool manufacturers), English magazines about science and technology, and school library books.
Guide students to think about what aspects they should focus on when collecting information, such as the appearance, function, advantages, and disadvantages of different communication tools, as well as the time of their emergence.
Give an example: "When collecting information about smartphones, you can look for when the first smartphone was invented, what functions it had at that time, and how its functions have evolved over the years."
5.4 Poster Design Discussion (10 minutes)
In each group, let students discuss how to design their posters.
Remind them to consider the following elements:
Layout: How to arrange the title, subtitles, pictures, and text. For example, the title can be placed at the top in large, bold letters, and pictures can be used to illustrate different communication tools.
Color: Choose colors that can attract attention and match the theme. For a technology - related poster, blue or silver may be good choices.
Content selection: Decide which information is the most important and should be included on the poster.
Walk around the classroom, listen to students' discussions, and offer some suggestions when necessary.
5.5 Poster Creation (15 minutes)
Each group starts to create their poster.
Students can draw pictures by hand, print pictures from the Internet, or cut pictures from magazines.
While they are creating the poster, remind them to write the English descriptions clearly and correctly, using the vocabulary and grammar they have learned.
Teachers should keep an eye on each group's progress, and help solve any problems they encounter, such as language errors or difficulties in layout.
5.6 Presentation Preparation (3 minutes)
In each group, select one or two students to be the presenters.
The presenters should organize the content of the poster into an oral presentation, including an introduction, a detailed description of the development of communication tools, and a conclusion.
Encourage other group members to help the presenters practice the presentation.
教学反思
After the class, I found that most students were actively involved in the group work. They showed great enthusiasm for collecting information and designing the posters. Through this project - based learning, students not only improved their English language skills but also enhanced their cooperation and problem - solving abilities.
However, there were also some problems. Some students had difficulty in finding accurate English words to describe the features of communication tools, which indicated that more vocabulary teaching and practice are needed in future classes. Also, a few groups did not manage their time well during the poster creation process, resulting in a relatively simple - looking poster. In the future, I will pay more attention to time management guidance in group projects.
In addition, during the presentations, some students were still a bit nervous and made some language mistakes. I should provide more opportunities for students to practice public speaking in English to build up their confidence. Overall, this teaching process has provided me with valuable experience for improving my future teaching methods.
