UNESCO has added 26 new sites to its World Heritage List, recognizing their outstanding universal cultural and natural value. This brings the total number of listed locations to 1,248. Here are some of the newly added sites.
Bavarian palaces
King Ludwig II of Bavaria, who has been called the “Mad King”, had these grand palaces built between 1864 and 1886 in what is now Germany, according to UNESCO. The palaces are now a tourist attraction, “records in stone of the ideal fantasy world which the king built as a refuge (避难所) from reality,” according to a biography on a website for the palaces.
Imperial tombs in China
The tombs are located in north-central China’s Ningxia region. People from the Xixia Dynasty are buried among the “9 imperial mausoleums (王室陵墓), 271 subordinate tombs, a northern architectural complex, and 32 flood control structures,” as UNESCO describes. China’s government said the site shows “the crucial role of Xixia as a key distribution center on the Silk Roads during the 11th and 13th centuries.” It added that the location is “the largest, highest-ranked, and most complete archaeological site from the Xixia period that has survived to the present day.”
Remains of 17th century Port Royal, Jamaica
Port Royal, in southeastern Jamaica, was a major English port city in the 17th century. According to UNESCO, it was a center of transatlantic trade, which included enslaved Africans. It was also a community center for pirates. A 1692 earthquake pushed much of the town underwater.
Ecosystems of the Bijagós Islands
The Bijagós Archipelago, off the coast of Guinea-Bissau, is known for its biodiversity. It’s home to “endangered Green and Leatherback turtles, manatees, dolphins, and over 870,000 migratory shorebirds,” UNESCO says.
1. Which site was originally designed as an escape from reality?
A. Bavarian palaces. B. Imperial tombs in China.
C. Remains of 17th century Port Royal Jamaica. D. Ecosystems of the Bijagós Islands.
2. What is a feature of imperial tombs in China?
A. They are situated in the center of northern China.
B. They were built to control flood.
C. They prove Xixia’s role on the Silk Road.
D. They are the largest tombs surviving till today.
3. What can a traveler do on the Bijagós Islands?
A. Visit grand palaces built by a king.

After a refreshing morning rain, sunlight bathed the Taierzhuang War Ruins Park in Zaozhuang, Shandong province, as crowds of visitors gathered around a bullet-riddled (充满弹孔的) old house — a silent witness to the fierce fighting that once occurred here.
This scarred (伤痕累累的) building is one of 53 wartime relics preserved in the park, standing as a powerful reminder of the brutal Battle of Taierzhuang that took place in 1938, a hard-earned victory in the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression. This victory gave the Chinese people new confidence and destroyed Japan's hopes for a quick win.
“To the names of small towns famous as turning points in history — the Waterloo, Gettysburg, Verdun — we can add another. It is Taierzhuang, an ancient brick-walled settlement on the banks of China’s Grand Canal,” reads an article written by war photographer Robert Capa, whose photos about the battle are now on show in the Taierzhuang War Memorial Hall.
After the fierce battle, over 90 percent of the structures in this once-prosperous canal town lay in ruins. There was not a single wall untouched by bullets, not a patch of earth not soaked by blood. But today, the town has been rebuilt in the style of the Ming and Qing dynasties, preserving 53 wartime relics while reviving its historic charm. It is now a major cultural and patriotic destination.
Beyond tourism, Taierzhuang’s spirit of resilience fuels modern development.
“Before, our roads were muddy, jobs were few, and young people left,” says Wang Yanjun, village secretary of the Communist Party of China. But in recent years, the village has transformed into a provincial-level scenic area and a model of rural revival by developing greenhouses, agritourism and homestays (民宿).
“Taierzhuang stands not just as a memorial to past sacrifices but as a symbol of perseverance and renewal,” says Wang.
4. The preserved bullet-riddled building serves primarily as _________.
A. an attraction for domestic tourists B. a display of Ming-Qing architecture
C. a commercial homestays for travelers D. a reminder of historical resistance
5. Why does the author mention Waterloo, Gettysburg and Verdun in paragraph 3?
A. To highlight Taierzhuang’s global historical significance.
B. To compare Taierzhuang with other famous battlefields.
C. To question the accuracy of historical records.
D. To promote the Taierzhuang War Memorial Hall.
6. What identities does modern Taierzhuang represent according to the passage?
A. Agricultural base and industrial center. B. War memorial and symbol of rebirth.
C. Tourism spot and political center. D. Canal town and technology model.
7. What can be a suitable title for the text?
A. Where Bullet Holes Still Speak. B. Where the Grand Canal enables Revival.
C. Where Scars of War Are Difficult to Heal. D. Where Scenic Charm Meets Rural Revival.
D 5. A 6. B 7. A

Nature has developed the emotional state we call anger to help us stay alive. Anger energizes us, preparing us for action. It can be used either in productive ways or just the opposite. When we feel energized by anger, we might ask ourselves how we put this energy to the most productive use.
Perhaps the most helpful thing to remember about anger is that it is a secondary emotion. A primary feeling is what is felt immediately before we feel angry. We might first feel afraid, attacked, offended, trapped, or disrespected. If any of these feelings are intense enough, we think of the emotion as anger. Generally speaking, secondary feelings do not identify the unmet emotional need. When all I can say is “I feel angry”, neither I nor any one else knows what would help me feel better. A helpful technique, then, is to always identify the primary emotion.
Assume someone wants us to do something we prefer not to do. At first we feel a little pressured, but not enough to get angry. When they keep pushing us, we begin to get annoyed. If they continue, we get angry. Such anger damages relationships.
If we feel angry, it is evident that we feel strongly about something. Instead of saying, “I can’t believe how irresponsible she is. What a cold-hearted, evil witch she is” A more productive response is: “Am I really upset by this? Why does it bother me so much? What specifically am I feeling?” From the answers, we can decide to pick the best one to calm the anger. As soon as we “upshift” and begin to think about our options and their consequences, we start to feel more in control and less threatened. We get out of the automatic stimulus-response mode (刺激-反应模式) and realize that we have choices.
There is a quote from Victor Frankl that goes like this: “Between stimulus and response, there is a space. In that space lie our growth and freedom.”
8. What’s the author’s attitude towards anger?
A. Favorable. B. Objective. C. Doubtful. D. Negative.
9 What can we know about anger?
A. It reflects one’s intense feeling. B. It refers to a minor emotion.
C. It can identify emotional need. D. It surely causes a violent reaction.
10. What can be inferred from Victor Frankl’s concept?
A. We have a chance to think before reacting to a stimulus.
B. Stimulus and response are weakly connected to each other.
C. Growth and freedom depend on strong external stimulus.
D. Automatic reactions are necessary for gaining freedom.
11. What is the text mainly about?
A. Techniques for recognizing anger. B. Underlying causes of anger.
C. Handling anger constructively. D. Getting rid of negative emotions.
B 9. A 10. A 11. C
根据第一段中的“Anger energizes us, preparing us for action. It can be used either in productive ways or just the opposite.(愤怒能激发我们的能量,让我们做好行动的准备。它可以被用于富有成效的方式,也可能恰恰相反。)”可知,作者认为愤怒会刺激我们对此做出行为反应,它既可能产生有效益的影响,也可能会有反作用,所以可以推断出,作者对愤怒的态度是客观中立的。故选B。
【9题详解】
细节理解题。根据第二段中的“If any of these feelings are intense enough, we think of the emotion as anger.(如果这些感觉足够强烈,我们就认为这种情绪是愤怒。)” 故选A。
根据倒数第二段中的“From the answers, we can decide to pick the best one to calm the anger. As soon as we “upshift” and begin to think about our options and their consequences, we start to feel more in control and less threatened. We get out of the automatic stimulus-response mode (刺激-反应模式) and realize that we have choices.(从答案中,我们可以决定选择最好的一个来平息愤怒。一旦我们“升档”并开始考虑我们的选择及其后果,我们就开始感到更加可控,受到的威胁更小。我们摆脱了自动刺激-反应模式,意识到我们有选择。)”和最后一段“There is a quote from Victor Frankl that goes like this: “Between stimulus and response, there is a space. In that space lie our growth and freedom.”(Victor Frankl曾说过:“在刺激和反应之间,有一个空间。我们的成长和自由就在这个空间里。”)”可知,前文指出我们可以摆脱自动刺激-反应模式,考虑并选择平息我们的愤怒,这可以让我们感到可控,最后一段Victor Frankl指出在刺激和反应之间有一个自由和成长的空间,这意在表明,我们在对刺激做出反应之前有机会思考。故选A。
D
Growing concerns about the economic situation are creating significant difficulties for social media influencers (网红) . Content featuring luxury lifestyles, previously popular on platforms like TikTok and Instagram, now faces criticism from audiences experiencing financial stress. According to a nationwide survey, 54% of Americans hold negative views toward current economic conditions, fueling frustration toward displays of wealth.
Brand partnerships are undergoing notable changes. While 76% of companies continue influencer cooperations, this represents a 10% decline compared to 2024 data. Businesses now significantly reduce creator involvement per advertising campaign — from over twenty participants to single-digit numbers — as consumer spending decreases. The financial stability of influencers is therefore increasingly threatened. With 12 million self-identified full-time creators supporting an average annual income of $178,000 in the U.S., marketing analyst Peyton Knight emphasizes adaptability: “Those unable to develop professionally will fade away when brand funding ends.”
To weather the storm, strategist Sam Ogborn encourages influencers to take an unconventional approach by redirecting their content away from overspending and more toward embracing underconsumption. Ogborn says as consumers want to buy less and save more, “it makes sense that a lot of people now watch that kind of content and find ways to cut costs in their own lives, because they don’t want to just buy a new item anymore and pay the cost of the tariff (关税).”
Mirand Koch, a lifestyle and fashion creator who has over 400,000 followers on Instagram, says she tries not to operate from fear, but instead remains adaptable, “whether that means shifting partnerships, or just leaning deeper into what my audience is asking for. Whether it’s more lighthearted humor or more lifestyle content and not just necessarily so focused on selling.” While there is uncertainty of what the future will look like for creators and their followers, for Mirand Koch one thing is clear: “The only thing that never changes is change, and you just have to constantly be open-minded and adapt to what’s happening — which is a scary place to be comfortable with.”
12. What is the main challenge currently facing social media influencers?
A. Difficulty in attracting new followers.
B. Government regulations on brand partnerships.
C. Increased competition on platforms like TikTok.
D. Negative audience reaction due to economic stress.
13. What do we learn from paragraph 2?
A. Brands are working with fewer influencers due to consumption decline.
B. An increasing number of influencers are seeking for financial stability.
C. Reduced consumer spending results from fewer brand-influencer partnerships.
D. Experts are optimistic about the professional development of influencers.
14. What does the underlined phrase “to weather the storm” mean in paragraph 3?
A. To avoid the problem. B. To reduce the damages.
C. To survive the difficulty. D. To predict the outcome.
15. What should influencers do according to Sam Ogborn and Mirand Koch?
A. Shift content toward humorous and lifestyle themes.
B. Accept changes and adapt based on audience feedback.
C. End brand partnerships and focus on audience requests.
D. Keep a fixed content style and attract audience with stability.
D 13. A 14. C 15. B
根据第一段“Growing concerns about the economic situation are creating significant difficulties for social media influencers (网红) . Content featuring luxury lifestyles, previously popular on platforms like TikTok and Instagram, now faces criticism from audiences experiencing financial stress. According to a nationwide survey, 54% of Americans hold negative views toward current economic conditions, fueling frustration toward displays of wealth. (对经济形势日益增长的担忧给社交媒体影响者带来了巨大的困难。以前在TikTok和Instagram等平台上流行的以奢侈生活方式为主题的内容,现在面临着经历经济压力的观众的批评。一项全国性调查显示,54%的美国人对当前的经济状况持负面看法,这加剧了人们对炫富的不满。)”以及第二段中“The financial stability of influencers is therefore increasingly threatened. (因此,影响者的财务稳定日益受到威胁。)”可知,文章开篇指出,在TikTok和Instagram等平台上流行的展示奢侈生活方式的内容,现在面临着处于经济压力中的观众的批评。接着提到品牌合作的变化以及影响者的财务稳定性受到威胁等。这表明社交媒体影响者目前面临的主要挑战是由于观众的经济压力而产生的负面反应。故选D项。
【13题详解】
推理判断题。根据第二段中“Businesses now significantly reduce creator involvement per advertising campaign — from over twenty participants to single-digit numbers — as consumer spending decreases. (随着消费者支出的减少,企业现在明显减少了每个广告活动的创作者参与——从20多个参与者减少到个位数。)”可知,随着消费者支出减少,企业在每个广告活动中大幅减少了与创作者(影响者)的合作,从超过二十名参与者减少到个位数。这说明由于消费下降,品牌与更少的影响者合作。故选A项。
根据第二段中“The financial stability of influencers is therefore increasingly threatened. (因此,影响者的财务稳定日益受到威胁。)”提到影响者的财务稳定性受到威胁,面临困难。以及第三段划线短语句中“strategist Sam Ogborn encourages influencers to take an unconventional approach by redirecting their content away from overspending and more toward embracing underconsumption. (策略师萨姆·奥格本(Sam Ogborn)鼓励网红们采取一种非常规的方式,将他们的内容从过度消费转向消费不足。)”说策略师 Sam Ogborn 鼓励影响者采取非传统方法,将内容从过度消费转向适度消费。由此可知,划线短语“to weather the storm”在这里的意思应该是在这种困难情况下生存下来,C选项To survive the difficulty“在困难中生存”符合语境。
根据第三段中“To weather the storm, strategist Sam Ogborn encourages influencers to take an unconventional approach by redirecting their content away from overspending and more toward embracing underconsumption. ( 为了抵御这场风暴,策略师萨姆·奥格本(Sam Ogborn)鼓励网红们采取一种非常规的方式,将他们的内容从过度消费转向消费不足。)”以及第四段中“Mirand Koch, a lifestyle and fashion creator who has over 400,000 followers on Instagram, says she tries not to operate from fear, but instead remains adaptable, “whether that means shifting partnerships, or just leaning deeper into what my audience is asking for.

How to communicate well with People from Other Cultures
To build good relationships with people from other cultures, it is essential to learn how to communicate with them. You can make things easier by also learning about their culture and practicing tolerance. Armed with the knowledge of how to communicate effectively, you can learn from people from other cultures and share yours with them.
Learn about the culture beforehand. ____16____ If you have time before starting a trip or meeting with someone from another culture, try to take time to learn the basic “do’s and don’ts” of that culture. You can find information on this from internet sources such as those provided by the National Center for Cultural Competence.
Expect differences. Different cultures will speak at different volumes, be more or less direct in showing emotion, may or may not expect to engage in “small talk,” and exhibit other dissimilarities in communication. ____17____
____18____ Keen your feet on the floor, sit up straight, don’t use your arms too expressively, and otherwise keep your posture more or less conservative. ____19____ For instance, showing your foot in some cultures is seen as a rude gesture, so you would not want to cross your legs in a way that your sole sticks out. If it becomes clear that a less formal posture is acceptable, you can follow suit.
Speak clearly and slowly, if necessary. Avoid shouting unnecessarily or treat others as though they do not understand. Raising your voice does not make you easier to understand and can be seen as rude. ____20____ Communication difficulties arise from cultural differences, not because of matters of intelligence.
A. Do as the Romans do.
B. A little knowledge can go a long way.
C. It is very wise of you to assume a formal body language.
D. It’s better to ignore small cultural differences to avoid overthinking.

For about 50 years, scientists have been struggling with ___36___ problem: There isn’t enough visible matter in the universe.
All the matter we can see—stars, planets, cosmic dust and everything in between — can’t explain why the universe behaves as it does, and there must be five times as much of it around for researchers’ observations ___37___(make) sense, according to NASA. Scientists call that dark matter, because it does not interact with light ___38___ is invisible.
In the 1970s, American ___39___(astronomer) confirmed dark matter’s existence by looking at stars ___40___(orbit) at the edge of spiral galaxies (星系). They noted that these stars were moving so fast ___41___ visible matter alone could not keep them from flying away. The only explanation was a large quantity of unseen matter, holding the galaxy together.
Since then, scientists ___42___(try) to observe dark matter directly and even built large equipment to find it — but so far, with no luck.
Stephen Hawking once suggested a ___43___(science) theory: dark matter might hide in tiny black holes born in the Big Bang (宇宙大爆炸), yet the idea was forgotten. Now, a new study brings Hawking’s idea back. Researchers say very small black holes made in the first instant could still be out there. Even thinner ones left faint marks in the early universe. Future space instruments might spot these marks ___44___ order to reveal what dark matter is and ____45____(potential) discover an entirely new type of black hole in the process.

Alex sat quietly at the back of his Chinese class, his eyes fixed on the textbook before him. As a shy and unnoticed student, he felt like a lone wolf, struggling against the complexities of high school life. Ms Lau, his Chinese teacher, was a light in his otherwise dark world. Her warm smile and gentle behavior made her stand out among the sea of teachers. She was the only one who seemed to understand his conservative nature, always encouraging him to step out of his comfort zone.
One day, after class, Ms Lau approached Alex with excitement shining in her eyes. “Alex, I have an offer for you,” she said, her voice filled with enthusiasm. “I am organizing a cultural exchange program to China, and I believe it would be a great opportunity for you to explore a new world.”
Alex’s heart skipped a beat, the prospect of traveling to a foreign country both exciting and terrifying. He hesitated, unsure if he had the courage to start such an adventure. But Ms Lau’s firm belief in him gave him the push he needed to take a leap of faith.
Under Ms Lau’s guidance, Alex began preparing for the trip. He got really interested in Chinese culture and learned about its long history and traditions. Ms Lau became his mentor(导师), teaching him not only the language but also invaluable life lessons. She taught him the importance of being confident and not giving up, reminding him that growth only happens outside one’s comfort zone.
The day of departure arrived, and Alex found himself on a plane headed for China. He couldn’t help but feel amazed as he stepped off the plane and into a world so different from his own.
Port Royal in southeastern Jamaica, was a major English port city in the 17th century.

After the fierce battle over 90 percent of the structures in this once-prosperous canal town lay in ruins.

D. To promote the Taierzhuang War Memorial Hall.
6. What identities does modern Taierzhuang represent according to the passage?
A. Agricultural base and industrial center. B. War memorial and symbol of rebirth.
C. Tourism spot and political center. D. Canal town and technology model.
7 What can be a suitable title for the text?
A. Where Bullet Holes Still Speak. B. Where the Grand Canal enables Revival.
C. Where Scars of War Are Difficult to Heal. D. Where Scenic Charm Meets Rural Revival.

A. Favorable. B. Objective. C. Doubtful. D. Negative.
9. What can we know about anger?
