Unit 4 In the neighbourhood-F Project
This unit focuses on the theme of "In the neighbourhood". The F Project in this unit aims to integrate students' language skills, including speaking, writing, reading, and listening. Students will be required to create a guidebook about their neighbourhood. 教学过程
A. Lead - in (5 minutes)
Show some pictures of different neighbourhoods on the PPT, including busy city neighbourhoods, quiet suburban neighbourhoods, and traditional rural neighbourhoods.
Ask students: "Look at these pictures. Which neighbourhood would you like to live in? Why?" Encourage students to share their opinions briefly. This activity can arouse students' interest and lead them to think about the characteristics of different neighbourhoods.
B. Knowledge Review (8 minutes)
Review the key vocabulary related to the neighbourhood. Write some words on the blackboard with missing letters, and ask students to fill in the blanks. For example, "c _ nvenience store", "c _ mmunity centre".
Review the sentence patterns. Ask students to make sentences using the "There be" structure and prepositions of place. Invite several students to share their sentences. This review can help students recall what they have learned before and lay a foundation for the following project work.
C. Project Introduction (5 minutes)
Present the project task to the students: "Today, we are going to create a guidebook about our own neighbourhood. This guidebook should include information about the facilities, services, and interesting places in your neighbourhood. You can work in groups of four."
Show them some samples of simple guidebooks about neighbourhoods on the PPT, highlighting the layout, content, and design elements. Explain to students that their guidebooks should have a title, a map of the neighbourhood, descriptions of different places, and some pictures if possible.
D. Group Work (15 minutes)
Divide students into groups of four. Each group chooses a leader.
In groups, students start to plan their guidebooks. They first discuss and make a list of the important places in their neighbourhood. Then, they assign tasks to each member, such as who will draw the map, who will write the descriptions, and who will collect pictures (either draw by themselves or print from the Internet).
The teacher walks around the classroom, offering guidance and answering students' questions. For example, if students have trouble finding the right words to describe a place, the teacher can give them some hints.
E. Presentation (10 minutes)
Each group sends a representative to the front of the class to present their guidebook. The representative should introduce the main features of their neighbourhood, such as the most popular place, the best - kept secret, and how to get around in the neighbourhood.
While the representative is presenting, other group members can show the map and pictures in the guidebook. After each presentation, the teacher and other students can ask some questions, such as "Why do you think this is the most popular place in your neighbourhood?" or "How did you draw this map?"
F. Summary (2 minutes)
Summarize the key points of this class, including the vocabulary, sentence patterns used in the presentations, and the process of making a guidebook.
Praise students for their good performance in group work and presentations, and encourage them to continue to explore and describe their living environment in English.
教学反思
Positive Aspects
The lead - in activity was effective in arousing students' interest. The pictures of different neighbourhoods attracted students' attention and made them actively participate in the discussion at the beginning of the class.
Group work provided students with more opportunities to communicate in English. They cooperated well in their groups, sharing ideas and dividing tasks. During the presentation, most students were able to use the learned vocabulary and sentence patterns to introduce their neighbourhoods clearly.
Areas for Improvement
Some students still had difficulty in using vivid and accurate language to describe their neighbourhoods. In future classes, more language input, such as model texts or more detailed vocabulary explanations, should be provided.
The time for group work was a bit tight. Some groups did not have enough time to perfect their guidebooks. In the next class, more time can be allocated for group work or students can be asked to continue to work on their guidebooks after class.
Adjustment for Future Teaching
Increase the amount of reading materials related to neighbourhood descriptions in the pre - class preparation, so that students can accumulate more useful expressions.
Design more pre - group - work activities to help students better plan their projects, such as brainstorming more ideas about what to include in the guidebook before starting group work.
