Unit 8 Road to success-A Getting ready
Unit 8 "Road to success" focuses on the theme of how hobbies can be turned into careers. 教学过程
1. Lead - in (5 minutes)
Greet the students and show some pictures of different people engaged in various activities, such as a person playing the guitar, another taking pictures of beautiful scenery, and a child playing with a pet dog.
Ask students: "What are these people doing?" Encourage them to answer in English. Then ask: "Do you like these activities? Which one do you like best?" Let several students share their answers.
2. New Knowledge Presentation (15 minutes)
Vocabulary Teaching
Present the new vocabulary related to hobbies one by one on the PPT. For each word or phrase, show a vivid picture to help students understand. For example, when teaching "play a musical instrument", show pictures of different musical instruments like a piano, guitar, and violin. Let students repeat the words after the teacher several times.
Divide the students into pairs. Each pair takes turns to describe one of the hobbies using actions or simple words, and the other pair guesses what the hobby is.
Sentence Pattern Teaching
Write the sentence patterns "I like + V - ing..." and "I want to be + a/an + 职业名词..." on the blackboard. Explain the usage and meaning with examples. For example, "I like reading books. I want to be a writer in the future."
Let students practice making sentences using these patterns. First, ask them to think about their own hobbies and career aspirations and write down a few sentences. Then, invite some students to stand up and share their sentences with the class.
3. Practice (15 minutes)
Listening Practice
Play a short recording. In the recording, two students are talking about their hobbies and future career plans. Before playing the recording, ask students to read the following questions:
What are the two students' hobbies?
What do they want to be in the future?
Play the recording twice. After that, ask students to answer the questions. Check the answers together.
Speaking Practice
Divide the class into groups of four. Each group member needs to talk about their hobbies and what they want to be in the future. Others in the group can ask some simple questions, such as "Why do you like this hobby?" or "Why do you want to be a...?"
After the group discussion, each group selects one representative to come to the front of the class and share the most interesting story or plan they heard in their group.
4. Summary (5 minutes)
Review the key vocabulary and sentence patterns learned in this class with the students. Ask students to close their eyes and recall. Then randomly call some students to come to the blackboard and write down as many words and sentences as they can remember.
Summarize the main idea of this class: we all have hobbies, and these hobbies might have a connection with our future careers. Encourage students to keep exploring their hobbies.
5. Homework (5 minutes)
Ask students to make a poster about their hobbies and future career plans. They need to draw some pictures related to their hobbies and write a short passage about their career goals in English.
Tell students to share their posters with their parents at home and have a short English conversation with their parents about their hobbies and future.
教学反思
After this class, I found that students were quite interested in the topic of hobbies and future careers. The use of pictures and group activities effectively engaged students in the learning process. However, there were also some areas that need improvement.
During the vocabulary teaching, although the pair - work activity was lively, some students had difficulty expressing the hobbies accurately in English. In the future, more practice time should be allocated for vocabulary usage, and some more vivid and easy - to - remember teaching methods could be adopted, such as creating short stories with new words.
In the speaking practice part, a few students were still a bit shy and reluctant to speak in groups. Next time, I will try to create a more relaxed and supportive atmosphere at the beginning of the group activities, and encourage these students more patiently. Also, providing more guiding questions or sentence frames for them might be helpful.
Overall, this class achieved most of the teaching objectives, but continuous improvement in teaching methods and more attention to individual students' needs are necessary to enhance the teaching effect.
