I had friends to hang out with, several hobbies, and I felt comfortable spending weeks or even months in my hometown without going anywhere. I thought there was no difference between seeing something on TV and seeing something with one’s own eyes. The situation changed one day when Adam, my best friend, came to my room. He succeeded in persuading me to join him on his trip to the Rocky Mountains. This was my first time in the mountains, so I was turning my head in all directions. Unluckily, the weather was foggy most of the time, and the higher we climbed the mountains, the less we could see. But I still enjoyed the hike. I walked fast, and because of that I ran out of energy long before we got to the top. Adam knew how to save energy. When we finally got to the top nothing had really changed. The same fog was covering everything. I felt disappointed, as I expected to see the view from above and take some photos. We spent a couple of hours on the top, and decided to turn back. Then the wind suddenly cleared the clouds and the sun came out. It wasn’t until then that I knew how beautiful the mountains looked. And for some moments I couldn’t believe my eyes. This experience inspired me to break through my limitations and accept new challenges. I realized that I wouldn't be able to live a life without visiting the mountains at least twice a year. 21. This will improve your mood. Hang out with people you like. You don’t have to do anything special, because they will likely help take your mind off your unhappiness. Keep a “Happy Moments” journal where you record your best memories, successes, achievements, and the moments you felt great. When you feel down, read them and remember how great you are. Go for a 15-minute run, then take a nice shower, and pick out a new movie to relax yourself! Eat ice-cream, go out for a walk, see new things, and feel how lucky you are when compared with other sick people. Do something crazy. Dance in the dark. Scream as loud as you can. Eat a big bowl of something you know you shouldn’t. Talk to the wall... The sudden burst of energy can lift you up. Think about your goals in life, and how happy you’ll be when you complete them. 24. The Miao people have loved birds for generations. That’s why people see delicate (精致的) birdcages hanging in front of many households in the Miao villages. “The Miao people love birds so much that they even bring their birds with them while working hard in the fields,” said Wang Qiu, a 35-year-old inheritor (传承者) of the Kala birdcage-making craft. “Even if they slip (滑倒), the birdcages they carry carefully remain fine.” Located in the northeast of Danzhai county, Guizhou province, Kala village is famous for its time-honored cage-weaving craft, which dates back over 400 years. In 2009, it was listed as a provincial intangible cultural heritage (非物质文化遗产) of Guizhou. “Kala birdcages are famous for their remarkable firmness,” explained Wang. “Each cage is carefully crafted from the sturdy moso bamboo (结实的楠竹) and the flexible water bamboo (柔韧的水竹). The former provides hardness, while the latter contributes resilience (韧性), resulting in a cage that is durable.” After marrying her husband in Kala village, Wang was attracted by the excellent cage-weaving craft there. Wang Yuhe, her father-in-law and a Kala birdcage-making inheritor, taught her everything he knew about the craft. As a member of the younger generation, Wang Qiu injects vigor (活力) into the centuries-old craft. “With the growing awareness of wildlife protection, the population of people who hunt and raise birds has been decreasing, so has been the need for birdcages,” said Wang. “So, I decided to combine closely art with everyday life, meeting the needs of a broader range of consumers.” Wang designs and makes everyday items, from bookshelves and lampshades (灯罩) to graceful earrings in the shape of Kala birdcages. In her efforts to show Kala birdcages to a wider audience, Wang has been sharing videos of her skills on social media. “I hope that my videos can attract more people and get them to learn about the fascinating skills of Kala village as well as the splendid culture of the Miao people.” 28. According to the article, why do Miao people hang birdcages in front of their households? A. To attract birds. B. To celebrate big harvests. C. To show love for birds. D. To show off their craftsmanship. 29. What are Kala birdcages known for? A. Their attractive appearances. B. Their long-lasting quality. C. Their collectible value. D. Their complex craftwork. 30. What does the second to last paragraph mainly talk about? A. Difficulties in selling Kala birdcages. B. The increasing public interest in Kala birdcages. C. Wang’s creativity in connecting her craft to daily life. D. The excellent craftsmanship shown in Wang’s works. 31. How does Wang promote the craft of Kala birdcages? A. By teaching students in schools. B. By simplifying cage-weaving skills. C. By selling Kala birdcages online. D. By sharing videos on social media. D Loneliness has become a global health threat “孤独”成全球健康杀手 Do you feel lonely? Don’t rush to a “no” answer just yet — the World Health Organization (WHO) recently addressed loneliness as a pressing health threat. It called for countries and organizations to make social connections a priority. Loneliness, although commonly described as the state of being alone, is actually a state of mind marked by feelings of isolation (孤独) despite wanting social connections. So, people who are lonely usually experience the emotional pain of not being connected with others. Solitude (独处), on the other hand, is voluntary (自愿的). People who enjoy spending time by themselves continue to maintain positive social relationships that they can return to when they want connection, according to the Verywell Mind website. Social isolation impacts the health and well-being of all age groups across the world. According to the WHO, one in four old people experience social isolation. Among adolescents (青少年), between 5 and 15 percent experience loneliness, but the numbers are likely to be underestimations (低估), said the organization. “Young people are not immune (不受影响的) to loneliness. Social isolation can affect anyone, of any age, anywhere,” said Chido Mpemba, African Union youth envoy, in the WHO’s press release on loneliness. In terms of teenagers, social disconnection can lead to poorer education outcomes since young people who have experienced loneliness in high school are more likely to drop out of university. Lack of social connection carries an equivalent risk of early death with other better-known risk factors such as smoking, obesity (肥胖) and air pollution, or potentially even greater. Loneliness has a far-reaching impact comparable to smoking up to 15 cigarettes (香烟) a day, according to a 2017 study. Previous studies have shown that loneliness has been linked to anxiety and depression and can increase the risk of heart disease by 30 percent. A 2015 study looked at the immune systems of its participants who were identified as lonely. It showed that they tend to have more inflammation (炎症) and less immunity, which can be a result of feeling stressed due to loneliness. To tackle this crisis, the WHO launched the Commission on Social Connection, which will hold its first leadership meeting from Dec 6 to 8 to outline solutions to build social connections at scale. 32. What can we learn about people experiencing loneliness from the text? A. They prefer solitude over social interaction. B. They feel lacking in social connection. C. They feel other people isolate them on purpose. D. They struggle to maintain social relationships. 33. How does loneliness affect people of different ages, according to WHO? A. It is harder for older people to get rid of it. B. Teenagers are usually not influenced by it. C. People can suffer from it regardless of their age. D. Adults experience it primarily due to workplace stress. 34. How does the author explain the impact of loneliness on health? A. By citing previous studies. B. By asking the readers some questions. C. By interviewing lonely people. D. By comparing it with other diseases. 35. What is the author’s purpose in writing this article? A. To raise awareness about loneliness. B. To give advice on how to prevent social isolation. C. To stress the need for mental health evaluations. D. To warn people of diseases related to loneliness. 第二节 (共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Building a DIY herb garden is a rewarding endeavor that allows you to enjoy fresh, homegrown herbs right at your fingertips. Whether you’ re an experienced gardener or a beginner, a well- maintained herb garden can enhance your cooking, add beauty to your space, and even provide a sense of relaxation. ___36___ By following these practical steps, you can create a thriving herb garden that will serve you well for seasons to come. ___37___ The first crucial step is choosing the right location for your herb garden. Most herbs thrive in full sunlight, requiring at least 6-8 hours of direct sunlight per day. However, some herbs like mint and parsley can tolerate partial shade. Consider the amount of sunlight your chosen spot receives throughout the day. ___38___ If you live in an area with strong winds, find a sheltered location or use windbreaks to protect your delicate herbs. Select the herbs that suit your needs and growing conditions. Think about which herbs you use most frequently in your cooking. Basil, thyme, rosemary, and oregano are popular choices for enhancing the flavor of Italian dishes. ___39___ If you have limited space, opt for compact varieties or herbs that can be grown in containers. Also, take into account your local climate. Some herbs are more cold- hardy, while others prefer warmer temperatures. Prepare the soil properly before planting. Herbs generally prefer well- drained soil that is rich in organic matter. You can improve the soil quality by adding compost, aged manure, or peat moss. ___40___ This helps the roots of the herbs grow easily. Avoid using heavy, clay- like soil that can retain too much water and cause the roots to rot. With the right planning and care, your DIY herb garden will not only provide you with a bountiful supply of fresh herbs but also become a delightful addition to your home. A. However, it’s important to ensure good air circulation around the plants as well. B. Lavender, on the other hand, is not only great for baking but also has a soothing aroma. C. But achieving a successful herb garden requires careful planning and the right techniques. D. Use a garden fork or tiller to loosen the soil to a depth of about 8-10 inches. E. Determine the size of your garden based on the available space and the number of herbs you want to grow. F. Also, consider the proximity to a water source, as regular watering is essential for herb growth. G. Make sure to space the plants according to their mature size to prevent overcrowding. 第三部分 语言运用(共两节,满分30分) 第一节 (共15小题;每小题1分,满分15分) 阅读短文,从短文后各题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出可以填入空白的最佳选项。 The American writer and humorist Mark Twain once said, “I never let schooling interfere with my education.” Well, as someone who lived in the 19th century and left school at the age of twelve, this was an easy ____41____ for him to make — today, perhaps not so much. Back then, schooling meant ____42____ learning to read, write, and do arithmetic (算术). These basic skills were enough to enable an individual to ____43____ in those simpler times and, if they were curious and had access to books, like Mark Twain, they could educate themselves. Education is a little more complicated and ____44____ these days. We need far more ____45____ in order to cope with and succeed in the modern world, and schools still play a big role in helping us achieve these ends. However, there are some, like Yuval Noah Harari, who are concerned that schools will no longer ____46____ prepare students for the future. Harari is a professor of history who, ironically, thinks a lot about the future. What students are being taught in schools today, he argues in one of his books, will be ____47____ to them in a few years’ time. He even thinks that technology will be used to ____48____ our bodies and brains. As a result, we will end up becoming half human and half robot hybrids (混合物). Harari might be right, but I for one hope he is wrong. The prospect of humans becoming little more than cyber-bees buzzing around an economic hive does not ____49____ me. What Harari seems to dismiss is the ____50____ of human beings, what is called the “dignity of man”. When I think of those words, Michelangelo’s iconic statue of David immediately springs to mind. It ____51____ the grace and strength of the human body, but it is David’s head, slightly turned to the side, that truly draws our attention. It is a strong, handsome face that looks into the future with absolute confidence. What a man! Would one of Harari’s future cyber-bees be able to create such a work of art? I certainly ____52____ it. Schools have an obligation to teach you ____53____ things, such as language skills and technical skills, but more importantly, they play a significant part in teaching you how to become a thoughtful and well-rounded human being. History and literature teach us that, while times change, the essential nature of human beings is ____54____. Today, we still have the same emotions, passions and desires as our ancestors. Will all of these human qualities get out of date and disappear in the future? Harari thinks so, but I still put my ____55____ in the “dignity of man”. Who wants to be a cyber-bee, anyway? 41. Wilson sat focused at his workstation. With steady hands, he carefully connected the final wire of the robotic arm with the remoter and uploaded his code. With the remoter, Wilson tried to control the robotic arm beside his desk. Finally, the arm came to life, smoothly picking up a small ball as planned. At the sight of it, Wilson exchanged a high-five with his classmate Peter, who made a successful attempt as well. Around them, students were rewriting the code, adjusting their robotic arms, testing their functions and celebrating their progress. Mr. Hurd wandered between the desks, offering tips and encouragement. When he reached Wilson and Peter, he nodded with a satisfied smile. “Impressive,” he said. Wilson and Peter’s faces lit up at the praise. Seeing their proud smiles, Mr. Hurd nodded approvingly and said, “You’ve done a remarkable job with your robotic arms, but what can this arm help in real life?” After school, lost in Mr. Hurd’s question, Wilson unconsciously took a different route home, one he hadn’t adopted for years. As he approached the lake, he froze in disbelief, shocked by what he saw. The once-clear water was now dark and polluted, with bottles and other rubbish piling up along the bank. He couldn’t believe his eyes. The lake used to shine like silver under the morning sun, and butterflies danced above flowers while families laid out picnic blankets on the grassy banks. Wilson remembered those mornings clearly, especially the one when his grandfather said, “This lake raised us. One day, it’ll be your turn to take care of it.” Sitting on a rock by the shore, Wilson stared at the rubbish in front of him. “How did something so beautiful end up like this? What could I do to help it?” he thought. Then, suddenly, an idea hit him. 注意: 1. 续写词数应为150左右; 2. 请按如下格式在答题卷的相应位置作答。 The next morning, Wilson told Peter his thoughts. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ After a month, they tested their new design near the lake. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $ 高2026届2025年暑期提升第二次月考 英语试卷 考次标识: ▭▬▬▭▬▬▭▬▬ 考试日期:2025年08月 注意事项 1. Who might Tony be? It was a fun job I took on, while I was at university to earn a bit of extra money and when I did it actually, it turned out that I was quite good at it. W: What do you have to do as a living statue? M: Firstly, you should come up with a creative idea, and then you have to practice and find the right clothes and stuff and do the full body make-up. W: You won the World Living Statue Championships recently. Could you tell us something about that? M: Um, for the World Championships I was a stone statue, and I painted in those tiny marks so that I looked like a kind of old, almost falling apart statue, and I think the judges really appreciated that. W: Yep, I get it. So what is the point of doing this job? M: The point really is the connection you make with your audience. When you make a tiny movement they tend to explode with laughter. And it’s that interaction between the audience and the performer that’s really what it’s all about. W: And what is the secret of being a good living statue? M: Firstly, never try and perform on an empty stomach. If you get hungry, you can start to feel light-headed, so you always need to eat something first. Well, good stomach muscles are key, too. You need to have them to hold those positions. 听下面一段独白,回答以下小题【此处可播放相关音频,请去附件查看】 18. Where is the speaker? A. In a park. B. In a zoo. C. In a museum. 19. When we finally got to the top, nothing had really changed. 21. 【答案】32. B 33. C 34. A 35. 注意: 1. 续写词数应150左右; 2. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】The next morning, Wilson told Peter his thoughts. He described how their robotic arm could help clean the polluted lake. With excitement, Peter quickly grasped the potential. They spent every afternoon in the workshop, where they carefully adjusted the design for cleaning the lake. The arm’s fingers were reshaped to better grasp trash, while new sensors helped identify different types of waste. In the end, their creation was ready for testing. After a month, they tested their new design near the lake. A small group of curious onlookers gathered as the robotic arm extended over the murky water. With precise movements, it successfully retrieved plastic bottles, aluminum cans, and even a submerged bicycle tire. Local residents cheered. When the arm struggled with a particularly heavy object, Wilson quickly adjusted the pressure settings, demonstrating their invention’s adaptability. As the sun set, casting golden light on the cleaner water, Mr. Hurd proudly announced, “This is what technology can do for our environment.” 词汇激活 行为类 ①理解:grasp/understand ②帮助:help/assist ③宣布:announce/declare 情绪类 ①兴奋:with excitement/in high spirits ②欢呼:cheer/applause 【点睛】[高分句型1] They spent every afternoon in the workshop, where they carefully adjusted the design for cleaning the lake.(运用了由where引导非限制性定语从句) [高分句型2] A small group of curious onlookers gathered as the robotic arm extended over the murky water.(运用了由as引导时间状语从句) 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $听力考试正式开始。I honestly don't want to continue the gardening tomorrow, tony.
